Why Is Verizon So Gay with their VCraP? - Motorola Droid 3

This is getting very annoying, my dock icons gets switched somehow to some V****, like vcast or their "APPS", why are they trying to push down the throat of their consumer crap that nobody wants? It happens like once or twice a day. Want to make a call and "bang" some annoying stuff pops up.
I can't wait for the day the phone gets rooted so i can uninstall all that crap.

I'm used to bloatware, but switching your dock icons is another whole level. Makes you think you are not in control of your phone anymore.

it's called marketing lol...
and sprint is being a good daddy and letting consumers remove MOST of the bloatware, and they're also limiting the number of bloatware
verizon has the most bloatware imo

I wish it was uninstallable. This is where Google needs to step in and remind carriers that Android is supposed to be open. Microsoft allows computer OEMs to send systems loaded with bloatware but all of it will uninstall, Android should be the same way. Instead we'll have to wait for a root.

Source is open, not company standards. Ie you can compile anything you want but man facts and resellers can limit access, hence locked boot loaders and such.

You can do that with the Motorola UI that comes with the D3. You can make your own custom app groups to organize/hide what is installed.

This lol. Seriously, all of the "V****" is in the market so I don't know why they don't make it uninstallable on phones. The most they should do is have the Verizon Apps app uninstallable and allow you to choose which uninstallable apps you want on your phone.

Sprint Navigator is now TeleNav GPS navigator!

You can point your mobile browser here and get the upgrade!
My GPS actually locked faster in my house with the new upgrade with the new TeleNav!
Will give this a try. thanks for sharing...

Wow! Great find! How come it (SprintNav) is not automatically updated to Telenav? The new UI is great and it sees I might be using this instead of Google Maps now.

Awesome, thanks OP. I was meaning to load SN back on after ACS Frozen but hadn't gotten around to it yet, now I don't need to. The old one doesn't even have to be installed for it to "upgrade"
The new traffic avoidance in google nav still needs some work, unless I just don't know how to use it.
Sent from my ACS frozen Epic
I have no idea why it is not automatically updated, a friend of mine pointed me to the update link.
Thanks for the heads up! Like others, I would never have known about this otherwise!
Sprint nav has always been my nav of choice but this is significantly better. Great find!

It appears to run a service all the time: "ResourcePreLoaderService"?
I hate when apps do that. I don't want to waste resources on app while I'm not running it. I'll probably uninstall it for that very reason.
Awesome! Really fast! Hope it keeps satellite lock better than Sprint Nav did in. EB13.

It seems to only run that service when it is running. I shut it down in task mngr after I closed it and I can't find that service. Correct me if I am wrong.
I tried it again it took me like 5 force closes to fully stop it. Yeah, that kinda sucks.
Hmmm....in diagnostics it still shows 10% for GPS and now 0 satellites when Sprint Nav showed 1. Anyone try this on a trip yet? Does it hold GPS lock? Sprint Nav drops constantly since EB13 upgrade.

Same problem here, but it shows the missing apps as "installed " when I search for them like xda. I uninstalled the update and had it pushed again and I saw my apps listed but then it went away after an hour. My brothers nexus s doesn't so that. I wonder what's causing it, but not a big deal for me.

my list of apps in the market has been randomly missing a lot of apps for at least a year. "Clear data" restores all the installed apps, but after a while some go missing again. I'm quite surprised that it still happens with the new market.
No new market here, though... still 2.3.6
If you have problems with missing apps try to delete the data in the apps settings. Opening the market again will result in again an acceptation of the terms and your apps will be there again...

android market 3.1.3

enjoy
http://www.mediafire.com/?dbbwcoajt8qweo5
changelog:
Adds +1 For Apps And Games, Pin Number For Purchases, And More…
there’s a brand-new settings menu, as well as click-to-read explanations of app permissions (not developer customizable, unfortunately). There’s also a brand-new Market icon to spruce things up.
Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.
will the market be updated to this anyways? does it show all apps or not?
Eh I don't know don't feel so sure about This.

For some reason this market is showing all apps for me that I've installed from Amazon store as if they need updating. When I yet updating them, it fails but still shows as if needing to be updated. That's annoying.

+1 is a new google plus feature. if you go into the market and look at an app it will have the option to +1 it which is equivalent to liking a status on facebook. you can +1 websites and links. and all the links you've +1's can be viewed on your google plus
Market updates
Any ideas as to why the android market is not retrievable from the android market...other than the recursive need for the market in the first place
Loving the pin security, thanks for this.

I wouldn't go as far as removing/uninstalling Blinkfeed, but I'm curious to what extend this new central piece of Sense can be configured/modified. I just played around with Blinkfeed a couple of minutes in a phone shop. You can configure the sources that are shown on these tiles (like calendar, facebook, twitter, etc) but ...
Can I control how often each tile (is tile the correct word?) is updated? The more frequent the tiles are updated, the more battery is used and more network traffic is generated.
Can I control the placement of the tiles?
Can I control how many tiles are shown? E.g. I would like only a calendar tile and no social network tile or news feed tile.
Regards,
Stefan

It was one of the features I wasn't too keen on but it's turned out to be good for a giggle when I've got nothing else to play with. I scrolled 2 left of my homescreen yesterday to see the headline 'Study warns that sex in space is dangerous.'
I couldn't agree more. For starters the instant you unzip the fly on your suit your dead! Probably not what they were getting at but it was worth a chuckle.

You didn't need to be rooted to remove blinkfeed. Check out Q12 of the HTC One FAQ and you'll see a couple of ways to be able to get rid of it.
The other method, which requires rooting, is to install a custom ROM. I believe some ROMs may still have blinkfeed included though so you'll need to read the first post (at least) of the ROM threads to find out whether it has it or not

It's a nice feature to have, but give us the option to remove/disable it. I hate it when companies force stuff on you.

OP asked how we'd go about this if we aren't rooted. Curious about this as well.
You can do it via the play store through the webpage.
Says i have hangouts installed but its not in my app tray..when i hit open from the play market hangout app page it opens Talk
Same thing happened to me...just install it from the play.google.com site as @robfactory said above. Fixed.

Hate to say it bud, but step one for anything XDA, is root your phone .
Stay on the stock ROM if you want (god knows why, less battery life, slower phone, less secure phone, still the same phone and functionality, but that is your choice to stay on the ROM it came with), but you should add root capabilities. You can stay on the same ROM, only downside is I'm pretty sure there is no way to stay with your current setup, HTC Dev unlock WILL wipe your existing settings, widgets, profiles, apps, etc. But you can flash just the small root package and modify nothing that the phone came with originally. Rooting your phone is required here at XDA (lol not really, I just say that). Anyway, sorry I don't have anything useful to say about the app, but trust me... You want root Besides, you can deny root access to anything. Who is SYSTEM anyway? Why does he have all the powers and I haz so little?
P.S.
Do it.
I am getting this...
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I believe the update was pushed today, I saw it in play store as the actual update and it worked fine for me. I got the error message in the previous post once, but restarting the app fixed it. I do get my contact list disappearing quite often.
So far I feel the contact list could use some managing, I miss seeing my talk list and seeing who's online but I suppose I could try it out some more. There is a decent amount of emoticons added, but everything feels very basic and minimalistic. Not quite what I was expecting, could be because it's early on.
All in all, still feels like a beta.
