[Q] DHCP Problem - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys
I"m sorry if this has been discussed before but I searched the main Galaxy forum and could not find any relevant results for 'dhcp'
Supposedly this is a very well known error with the Tab. My galaxy tab gets stuck at Obtaining IP address. What is the resolution to this, if any? The gtab dhcp fix app doesn't seem to help
Thanks!

[Q] Wifi - problems..

Hi,
let me thank you for all the help you may give me.
The problem is i get stuck on obtaining ip address or the cell doesn't even try to connect automatically so i have to manually start the wifi connection to the network after turning on wifi.
The problem of my SGS not connecting automatically is rare, the first is not, it's actually quite often.
I looked through all the guides and sugestions but i couldn't find any permanent solution for this problem.
Note: I've used the AllShare app but sometimes even that doesn't work.
Thank you for all help
The same problem kept happening with me. Some of the fixes which I tried were
Change channel on router - didnt work for me
Use the allshare app first - worked
Set up a static ip in advanced settings - almost always worked
But I have found that I didnt have this problem with other routers, only mine, maybe because of a power problem with the router.
Many of baffling errors are usually caused by bad input power to devices.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the reply, the problem is that i use it alot on my university, where i can't do any changes to their router (or use static IP).
Also the AllShare app is indeed a fix, but only if used every time i think. I'll do some more testing, this problem is really annoying and that's a shame because it complicates the use of most of the smartphone capabilities.
So if anyone else as another solution i would be glad to hear it.
Also i'm on stock rom installed by my operator Vodafone (had the same problem on JPY).
Edit: After a very quick test, it seems that using Allshare once does work, but i had the impression that sometimes it would be needed more than once (even without rebooting). TY for the tip.
Update:
After some more tests i came to the conclusion that at home i need to use AllShare every time i want to connect to my network.
This seems to be a problem affecting several users of SGS, does anyone know the answer to this problem? Or at least an app that minimizes it?
It's quite bad and very frustrating. Thanks, for any and all help.
I had the same problem with stock Android 2.2.1 on 3 phones all Galaxy S. Dropping the packages on voip calling, internet was slow most of the time. I use a linksys wrt54g with dd-wrt, I never had problems with any other devices.
My problem was solved when I installed GingerReal. Also on Miui I didn't had any problems with the wifi connection.
Maybe is just the stock driver incompatibility with some devices.
Thanks for the reply,
I've only had bad experiences with flashing, last time i did everytime right and Odin just hanged, i almost had a serious problem in my hands.
Since this is probably the first and last good phone i'll ever have, i would really like not to kill it (also some people in my family would be very disappointed, it was a gift).
So any workaround? Sorry i'm so insistent but i think that are a lot more people interested in this. TY.

[Q] WEP issues

HI,
My phone can't connect to WEP networks.
there is no problem with open or WPA networks.
I tried to delete the config file in the system/wifi folder.
I tried to replace the DHCPCD file as Guardian Bob suggested here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907772
with no luck!
Any ideas?
Thanks.
btw, it's android 2.2.1.
Kinda thin on the info. Whose ROM are you on? Do you get an error message or does it just not connect? Can you see the WEP network or does it not show up? Might be better off posting to the correct ROM-related sticky in Q&A as this is not a Captivate problem. Mine running A3 connects to WEP networks just fine.
Well, it goes from "Obtaining IP address from..." to "not in range" or " remembered" and then back to "Obtaining IP address from..." in a loop.
I tried two routers, I can see the networks but both of them are giving me the same problem.
My ROM is PILOTX, the problem is that I don't think they have an official forum for this.
I asked several people with the same ROM and they have no problems. I think maybe I installed some app. that screw my WIFI config or something....
If you know a better place to ask this question I will appreciate it.
Thanks.

Never heard of that ROM. Is there a thread on the Captivate forums for that one?
Anyhow... here are a couple of places... http://www.facebook.com/pilotxrom
or here... http://iandroid.co.il/forum/topic12091.html
Seems to be some chatter about that devs roms those places. Honestly have never seen that one before. Good Luck.
Thanks lownox. I know of this places, I post my question there before I came here.
I got no answer there.
You don't know this ROM because its a very small group from Israel
but it's a good and solid ROM.
Did you find a fix for this issue? I have the same problem with the stock 2.2 ROM. My wife has the same phone, same stock 2.2 ROM - but DOES NOT have this issue. So, 2 (same) phones, same ROM, but mine has this issue
The one difference is that my wife's phone does not have a data connection i.e, just work on wife (when available).
Regards
Nick

I've never heard of that ROM, either, which will make it very hard for anyone in here to help you if it is indeed a ROM problem. Like I said, I have never had issues with connecting to various networks and security protocols and I rarely see any posted problems like yours that aren't related to the modem being used on the phone. You might try the modem thread in Dev and see if there's a better one for your area that others can recommend, but be sure it will work with your ROM. Mixing modems with the wrong ROM base can be catastrophic.

It's an i9000 ported ROM with added hebrew locale.

I cannot agree with you on that, it's not as solid as you think. Mainly because when the developer modded it he had the i9000 in mind. And only minor changes were made to make it work on the captivate.
Don't interpret my words as disrespect for the developer. Any contribution to the android community is BLESSED. It's just that he has a lot more israeli i9000 users than captivate ones.
You right, there are lots of I9000 in israel, its the #1 hit after the Iphone. We dont have too many Captivate here. I guess you are from israel...?
Anyway, as much as hate replacing Roms, I think I have no choice to go for the CM...

Obtaining IP addres

I have a t mobile galaxy tab, and all of sudden my wifi stopped working. It just stays at obtaining ip addrs then switches to remembered secured wep. I've looked around and seen that this is a common problem for tab owners. Is their a fix for this? When Samsung releases Gingerbread will this become fixed?

Possibly... I've certainly had similar wifi issues on Froyo on other devices in the past. Usually stopping and starting the wifi service fixed it. There's a stable stock release of Gingerbread out now - released by chainfire if memory serves correct. Search appears down at the moment, but check out the dev section to find it. I highly recommend it compared to Froyo.

this reconnect problem has already been adressed with the tab's Gingerbread release. its also more battery efficient on gingerbread, well that's my experience anyway.

Android 2.3.6 WiFi solution

Hello everyone. I think I've done a search in this sub-forum, and did not find any topic addressing this issue. I actually wanted to post this reply somewhere else, but it seems that there's a limitation for new users of xda.
Background:
My Galaxy Tab currently runs Overcome 4.1.0, which runs on Android 2.3.6. I upgraded it from the previous version of Overcome 4.0.0, which ran on Android 2.3.3. My router is from Belkin (G).
Problem encountered:
Upgrading to Android 2.3.6 led me to encounter a WiFi issue in which the connection would disconnect and reconnect every minute.
Solution:
After researching on this topic, I found the solution as stated by nagusia in the reply stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20842010&postcount=136. (Be sure to thank that post)
It turns out that the default DHCP lease on the Belkin router is set to FOREVER. after changing it to a finite value (two weeks), the problem went away.
Additional Info:
Here are a couple more threads that I found on Google about this similar issue:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=18648
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=20461
Worked on samsung galaxy ace duos
