Android 2.3.6 WiFi solution - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. I think I've done a search in this sub-forum, and did not find any topic addressing this issue. I actually wanted to post this reply somewhere else, but it seems that there's a limitation for new users of xda.
Background:
My Galaxy Tab currently runs Overcome 4.1.0, which runs on Android 2.3.6. I upgraded it from the previous version of Overcome 4.0.0, which ran on Android 2.3.3. My router is from Belkin (G).
Problem encountered:
Upgrading to Android 2.3.6 led me to encounter a WiFi issue in which the connection would disconnect and reconnect every minute.
Solution:
After researching on this topic, I found the solution as stated by nagusia in the reply stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20842010&postcount=136. (Be sure to thank that post)
It turns out that the default DHCP lease on the Belkin router is set to FOREVER. after changing it to a finite value (two weeks), the problem went away.
Additional Info:
Here are a couple more threads that I found on Google about this similar issue:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=18648
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=20461

Nook Color wifi loop - possible solution (seeking/connecting/disconnecting)

Cross-posting this from the CM7 nightly thread since it also helped someone else. If this hasn't been posted before, I hope it is helpful.
Just wanted to drop in with something I noticed regarding the wifi looping bug. I upgraded from 30 to 31 and started getting the issue out of nowhere. The wifi would just constantly loop between connecting/seeking/disconnected. Tried a bunch of things with no results, decided to go for a full wipe, installed Phiremod 5.1 from the XDA forums with the new Dalingrin's kernel (1.1 OC version released 25th March), but when I rebooted the issue was still there.
I honestly don't know much about networking, but I also noticed that I was having to hard reboot the router sometimes because the wifi would appear connected but not actually do anything. After a bit of messing around, it seems that both issues were resolved by simply disabling UPnP on my router. I have no idea if the problem was caused by it being a crap router (it is), or the way the Nook is connecting to it, but I thought it might help out some other people having the issue.
The router for the sake of reference is an old Netgear WGR614v7 cable router.
Sorry if this has been posted before. I just wanted to add that apart from this small issue, the nightlies have been pretty fantastic. The Nook is a week old and my first venture into Android. The CM7 and XDA communities are pretty excellent. Thank you everyone for all your work.

CM7 RC1 - Wifi

Good Morning,
For some reason, recently the wifi on my phone isnt connecting...i constantly get "optaining ip address"
At first i thought it was something with my router, but my phone is doing this on open networks and on my friends router.
It was working perfectly up until about 3days ago.
Any ideas on what i can try?
I have the exact same problem and am looking for a fix as well.
It starting happening to me after I updated my radio version to 3805.x.x.x because the phone wasn't working on the previous version.
I had the same problem with CM7 Nightly #66 and 67, but after i updated to Radio 20.2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16 i don't have that problem any more.
Now my WiFi connect and gets a IP very quick.
Update:
So I've tried 2 things without any luck.
1- I found on another forum that updating the kernel helped a few people. So I flashed 2.6.35.14-Tiamat_IncS-v1.1.2. That didn't fix the wi-fi.
2- I took jkolner's advice just above and flashed a radio for a 2.33.669.2 RUU. Although nothing else broke, wi-fi was still a no-go.
I will keep searching and post back any finds.
SOLVED
Previously I was running CyanogenMod7 7.1.0-RC1. After trying the 2 things posted in my previous post, I proceeded into trying CM7 Nightly #68. At the moment I can now connect to my home wireless network.
I'm so happy to get wi-fi back! And I hope it will be able to help others as well!
Last month i was on holiday for 3 weeks without any WiFi in range, so i know how it is to do with no WiFi ;-)

[Q] Since Update 2.3.6 Wifi disconnect,reconnect

hi all
Since i updated my Nexus One manually with the here provided Update 2.3.6. My Nexus One loose WiFi every 10 Seconds. On Google Support they are many Threads about this. For Example :
google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=3251939ebbad21a3&hl=en
Many users have problem with this annoying bug. I wonder why here is nothing to find about this.
Anyone here with the same Problem since 2.3.6. ?
Can´t understand why no one cares here. The Google support Forum is full of the same complains about WiFi rendered useless by 2.3.6.
Nexus one
Nexus S
all areas
Same Problem after update. WiFi drops every 20 seconds and reconnect.
Is here no one with the same problem ?
I believe its been mentioned in a number of threads...
Happens to me as well, I hope Google addresses this issue.
It isn't that I don't care, but I haven't had the issue with my phone (granted, I am not running stock but am running a CM7 nightly).
I am not sure what good it would be to chime in and say that it isn't happening to me. I think a lot of the consistent xda forum respondents aren't running stock, so they probably aren't having the issue.

[Q] Yet Another wifi ICS issue

Hey peeps, ti me for my first post.
Well i upgraded tO stock germanICS a couple of days back. Everything was working fine until yesterday. WiFi is behaving weird, i can connect with no probs at home but i've noticed that the download arrow from the WiFi icon on status bar is on and off all the time, draining the battery faster than expected(e.g. rom 100% to 65% 3 hours almost no use). So i spoke with a friend of mine, kind of a geek, he told me it could be so me kind of compatibility issue between ICS and old router's firmware. So i went to a bar nearby to check if i could reproduce the same behaviour and everything was working normal.
Did Anyone here had anything similar? I've been surfing to do so me research, but all i've found is so me peoples probs with WiFi not connecting at all and some sII users withe their WiFi module broken.
Thanks in advance!
Also...
I´ve read somewhere that a factory wipe solved some wifi´s peoples probs. As i´m under german ICS LPY i know i´ll be likely bricking the note if i wipe, what leads to teh next question...is it possible to flash a kernell(without the bug) without being root?
Cheers,
VR
edit
So i´ve been reading quite some info about franco´s and speedmod´s kernels, and it´s so confusing for starters. My last question remains , is it possible to flash those for a non rooted device? Anyone that is running it tried wiping? Results?
Thx again
Edit 2
After some research i now know i need to root for any new kernel flash, as i read my post i´m starting to feel i´ve lost my head somewhere, so bear with me, hehehe. Also found out some people tried wiping with franco´s kernel with no probs, so i almost have the info i was looking for. So, in case i go root and get franco´s kernel up and running, do you think my WIFI issues might dissapear after wiping?
I have the same bug...with wifi also the os android buy draining ny battery so bad...im on stick rom gb 2.3.6 with the ssme oroblem....any solution?

Serious Wifi Problem rooted Captivate with stock 2.1 Eclair

I have had my Captivate for a couple months now and the wifi has been working great without any problems. Today I power it on and try to connect to my wifi home network and it doesnt connect. I knew there was a real problem when I noticed that it is not finding any wifi networks and there are many around here.
My computer and xbox are on my home network and the net works fine so I ruled out a problem with the router.
I tried to use the wps button route and that didnt work.
I also tried to manually input the connection and it gives the the "not in range" message. I did a factory reset and still the same problems.
I have not downloaded any apps or flashed the rom....this just started out of nowhere. My Captivate is rooted and it is stock Eclair 2.1.
I hope you guys can help me with this problem.
Thank you.

If you unroot, does that change the outcome?
Are there any other steps you did on the phone recently?
There is/was a thread in the development section that dealt with this. It had to do with the dhcp file. I had this problem when I was on 2.1 and used the new dhcp file to fix it and it never failed again.
I'll poke around and see if I have it yet on my pc. Failing that I'd suggest upgrading to GB.
Well I'll be....
here is the post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907772
Warning.... Not sure if this is a 2.1 or 2.2 fix. I can't remember that far back! I'd just upgrade if I were you.
Yeah, I would just upgrade to the latest official release from Samsung.
Then re-root on that release.
If the problem persists with out root, you can then contact Samsung or your provider for assistance.
Or it may just fix the issue for you
