I would think this would be related to performance in general. So if the phone is performing well, it rotates quickly. If it's performing poorly, it rotates slowly...
There's a few things you can try to improve performance. Overclocking helps a little, but it's not a huge difference. Keeping apps from auto-starting on boot helps, I'm not sure of a simple way on how to do it... Suggested method for preventing apps from auto-starting.
That same user also uses an app called 'DroidWall' to prevent apps from connecting without permission. Might help with performance as well (not sure, but it can't hurt).
Anything that will slow down your phone has to go. Widgets are killer I've found... As much as I like them, they made the home screen SO slow. On that same tangent of home screens, have you looked at different launchers? The stock 'Launcher2' is kinda slow itself. I like ADW myself - there's many others out there (Zeam, GoLauncher EX, Launcher Pro to name a few...)

So it rotates quickly portrait -> landscape, but landscape -> portrait is slow...? I don't think I've heard of that one... Anyone else?
I'm not sure what can be done to fix that to be honest... new one to me .

just got my razr i here in the uk. love the device so far. fantastic form factor and importantly for me, a superb battery life one things nagging me though...is anyone else seeing a slight 'jerky' animation? i see it when swiping left to the 'quick settings' screen and when pressing the apps button. once in the apps though the left <> right swiping is perfect! pressing the home button from the home screen to show 'manage pages' too is pretty jerky or laggy but not sure if that is how it should be this guy sees it initailly when starting the game just before 4.00 mins in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SILUVIwiNF0
but once the game is running all seems ok. this guy i can see it at 1.57 when he swipes left from the homescreen to the 'quick settings'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rfud0GFXRg&feature=related
seems like it occurs when at some places within the phone but not everywhere. have i been spoilt using a nexus for the past week running a silky smooth jellybean vs this running ics? or is it a defective unit?
I would say on mine there is the slightest pause when moving to the quick settings that I hadn't noticed before! I hope it doesn't bug me now!!
Going to the manage pages screen or indeed the "helicopter view" (pinch zoom on the homescreen) is really jerky. But I dont find any noticeable lag or jerkiness anywhere else. In fact I find the whole experience smoother and slicker than even my Nexus 7. The only better Android experience I had was Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Nexus which is super silky.
Jelly Bean is slightly faster at a number of things especially switching screen context as the CPU is ramped to a high clock speed as soon as you touch the screen. I noticed the improvement in opening things like the app drawer when I had my Galaxy Nexus and upgraded to JB.

ooops sorry about that! :laugh:well i've adjusted both 'window animation scale' and 'transition animation scale' from 1x to off and that certainly speeds the whole ics experience up so that is worth doing if you have not. hope it does not affect the phone in another adverse way though

Does that not disbale animations?
don't think so. just seems to speed things up a touch.
This does indeed deactivate some Animations but only the ones Navigating in Apps or Settings and so on.
The actual Launcher Animation is not changed at all.
I have the same lag and its not so bad but still somehow annoying.
Didn't noticed that so much in all the test videos out there.
Someone tried to do a hard reset and start from scratch? Maybe fixes it.

With such a huge screen, why didn't Google allow the home screen to display in landscape orientation? While I have never wanted this functionality before, it seems like it would be great here. I'm assuming there's no way to do this without root?
You can... download a third-party launcher such as Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher. You can find them on the play store and then make the launcher to be landscape mode or portrait based on the orientation of the phone.
If you want this feature with google now launcher then there is no way to achieve this, not until Xposed is made to work using ART
They had to follow Apple this time. The iPhone 6 plus has this feature due to larger screen.

You can try forcing the homescreen rotation with Ultimate Rotation Control:

yep huge annoyance, especially since 1) iphone (!!!) now allows this and 2) google themselves allow it on android tablets
The launchers rotate, but the navigation and notification bars don't. Or at lease I have not been able to figure out how to make them do so. I know a custom ROM will fix this at some point, but part of the reason I bought this phone was to use as a micro tablet.

Son of a gun....this works! I just installed it and haven't used it yet to see if it keeps on working consistently, but so far, so good. Thanks!
Hi all,
As title suggests really, I noticed on my Note 8 that swiping to the app draw and back produces bit of a delay/glitch when flicking between the two, even on high performance mode - Does anyone else have this?
Really annoying as the rest of the device is very smooth but at the minute, my old S6 Edge Plus on android 7 feels just as quick to use, which is disappointing.
The latest update to the launcher on the S8 got rid of that lag and added the ability to pull down notifications with the a swipe down motion anywhere on the home screens. It looks like the launcher on the Note 8 is a little behind so hopefully we'll get that update soon.
I use Nova with no lag.
I use stock and it's the fastest I have ever had on a Sammy between home and app drawer. I regularly swipe up down for fun as it's great to watch. Mybe you have an app slowing you down. Also get DEVELOPER rights in settings and turn off all those 1x speed settings on graphics.

Odd you mention that as mine is completely stock and I first noticed this when I first turned it on, so I hadn't even started installing my own apps yet.
Maybe I should re-flash it and see if that'll help.

if i use the infinity wall paper i got no lag but if i change the wall paper for home screen and for lock screen the moment i open the lockscreen to hone screen the animation lag again...when i slide the screen to open the phone from lockscreen to home screen isee lag in the animation when i have on the home screen icons its weird do you see that too?
The only slowdown I noticed was when I left my knox-secured folder, like 0,5s lag before it closed. Do you have a branded software or unbranded?

wondering if its not the launcher being throttled. on infinity theme they might have to get it optimized by not letting the system sleep some cores to allow a seemingless experience. when you change to static wallpaper, this optimization is removed to prioritize battery . but as we can see, it would be nice to get at least the same performance on non infinity themes/wallpapers
I disable and/or shorten animations in developer options on every device I have. Makes a difference. On the Note I use pitch black wallpaper from the play store. Keeps it simple and frees up resources. Those animations, etc take more cpu. So I don't use 'em.

Unfortunately any third party launcher still hanging or lagging when an incompatible theme used in samsung themes.
Default or some themes seem to help overcome lag specially in exynos note 9.

Oh, I see. I tend to turn off most animations, or at least set them to 0.25 in the developer options.
updatek i found asolution that will kill all lag between stuff from lockscreen and home screen and beyond
we need to change in developer option only the duration animation to 0.5 little faster and its kill all lag check this lots time not even one lag great!!!!!
but change only the duration cause all the rest animation got no lag :good::good::good:

.25? Where is that?
And I think the OP is trolling. Have you seen the topics he is creating? But his iPhone X doesn't do this.
And I don't know why people keep thinking changing the animation duration to a lower setting gets rid of lag. It is just an option to cover up all latencies interacting with phone and to give it a little flair. Changing the animation timing doesn't do anything for lag. If anybody wants to argue the point change the timing higher and use for awhile and then go back to a lower setting.

Sorry, my memory failed me. I guess it's only 0.5.
Changing the animation definitely APPEARS to make things faster and less laggy. Whether it's placebo or not, I'm not sure.

Most likely everyone is experiencing similar thing but you just have a very low tolerance for "lag".

Hmmm, its actually annoying to see such laggy premium phone.
When samsung account is added, somehow samsung cloud auto sync n auto backup is on. Cloud sync always have additional lags. Disbaling cloud sync or removing samsung account completely seems to help in handling lag.
HI friends,
Just install the HTC Sense 9 ported apps like Sense Home launcher, Weather, clock etc.
Everything will work smoother and faster on this note 9.
Hello everybody.
I noticed there are some issues trying to use third party launchers such as NOVA or SmartLauncher.
Or, at least, that's what happens to me with the One UI 3.1.
I've been using NOVA since my first NEXUS and since then, moving to S7 up to the Note 10, even after choosing to be part of the Beta Testing Program, I've never had problems.
Now there are some laggy and crash issues. With both of the launchers aforementioned.
I don't know if this is due to the choice of using gestures instead on the buttons in the navigation bar (it doesn't look like, considering I tried to change) but it causes strange "movements" everytime I go back home: like the launcher restarts itself, if you know what I mean.
That never happened on my last device (the Note 10) with One UI 2.5: that's the reason why I'm seriously thinking it could be a problem of compatibility with the latest stock UI version.
Anybody with the same problem? Same issues? Or this "monster" behaves like it should?
Thank you
Best
IMPORTANT EDIT: I tried again and yes, it is gesture related. Deactivating the gesture navigation bar, everything went back to normal.
Yup, same issue. Flashes white after the next immediate touch action, blocking whatever that action was. Doesn't affect the stock launcher. I reported it to Samsung through their members app. Had to switch off of gesture navigation because of it. Dunno if the other gesture navigation is broken but I'm on buttons again.
I'm using good lock one hand operation + and FNG to compensate so left and right are still back. Swipe up is home and swipe up hold is recents.
Well the issue is with Google's gesture implementation. I am facing the issue with gestures too and contacted Nova launcher support and they have blamed google for it.
Its true, disabling gestures, everything works fine. I hope someone will find a solution to this.
I used Microsoft launcher and it seems fine.

Maybe it's only affecting launchers with the Google feed
I'm running a 10+ on Pie. The native launcher is fast and very stable.
I played around with Nova and a few others including Hyperion launcher. The latter boot looped my stock 10+ twice, back to back.
2 factory resets latter I was fuming. That was the first app to ever boot loop any of my Androids in 6 years. The developer had nothing to say. REALLY? F$$$ that!
Launchers have a very real potential to cause a boot loop. Take any instability seriously; there should be none.
The stock launcher uses less battery.
Because of all the Samsung built in customization plus Galaxy Store plugins and the Good Lock family of apps, the stock launcher is better than even Nova. Easier to use and more stable.
I stopped wasting my time sampling launchers. My last reload was almost a year ago; it remains fast, very stable with low battery usage. It looks and runs great... what's not to like?

Hi.
I must say that you're right: latest UI version in very fast and stable. All the possibilities you can add with GOOD LOCK are definitely a serious improvement. There is a "missing" feature, though: those damn' icons.
I really don't understand why we must be forced to use those ugly ones on the Galaxy Store and why they decided not to allow us to change at least the shape (with the UI 3.1), as this is a stock functionality.
Let's see what will happen in the future.

Works just fine with UI 3.1

I agree to an extent, but the current version on One Ui Home has a number of issues as well;
Freezing whenever you long press on the home screen, so you can't add widgets
Task changer keeps resetting
Why oh why won't they give us vertical scrolling in the apps menu
I distinctly remember there being similar issues with my s10+ at launch, so hopefully be fixed in the future

The last point is true however the first two aren't for me. No issues with widgets or Task changer.
The white icon label lettering irritates me though but it's not not all the trouble comes with 3rd party launchers.

Sure. Full of crappy icons and comic-sans-like fonts... Not considering that those on the Galaxy Store only change the stock icons and a few more.
The reign of inconsistency.
Believe me, I would be happy just having the possibility to choose the shape, as every other manufacturer on the planet allows.

Shape? Round, square... -far- less worse than Google or Apple designs
It's a pain sorting through them but there are good ones in there that most will like... for free.
If you're willing to take the performance and stability hit to have the "shape" well every rose has it's thorns.

Me too! No problems until now!
I have been using nova launcher on my s21 ultra, since i got the phone ( with no gestures, only buttons ).
And i thought i was having a nice experience.
A few days ago i messed up my phone, debloated the wrong apps and had to factory reset. Since i was going with a fresh install i decided to use OneUI + some goodlock modules.
Boy.. i was wrong about the nova experience. Now i know how fluid and responsive the phone is supposed to be.
Anyway, apart from that, this is the official info from NOVA:
Google has made it very clear that they have no plans to completely fix gesture-related issues any time in the near or even distant future.
Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android (stated March 2019).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android 10 and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google have now made it clear that they have no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include:
• Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
• Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
• Animations not being as fluid as expected
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as we have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.

Install Hexed from the Play Store. Personalize a theme and in preferences check Navigation Bar Height and set it to 0. In regular Android settings make sure it's set to use the NavBar buttons and not the gestures. Install any third party gestures app that you like. Set up your third party gestures app then restart the phone. Then you'll have fully working third party gestures and everything will work like it used to. This is the only way I have found that fully fixes the gesture issues.
