Hello XDA Community.
I'm attempting to install the new RC of CyanogenMod-6 for the Hero CDMA. I'm currently running the stock 2.1 version of Android. I've been following the guides that were referred to in the thread (I tried posting the urls but new users can't do so to prevent spam).
I've successfully rooted my phone and now I'm trying to do a Nandroid backup. I'm running Windows 7 32-bit and have hit a road block with ADB not recognizing my device. I followed the guide put together by Nephron to install the Android SDK. I've spent several hours going through threads and doing google searches looking for the solution. I have debugging turned on and I don't mount my SD drive when I plug the USB cord in. I've used USBDeview as some have suggested to delete current HTC drivers and then reinstall - no luck.
Here is a screen shot of what happens when I plug in my Hero:
See attached - "failedinstall.jpg"
Then I'll go to device manager to manually install the driver (it never allows me to manually select upon connection for some reason):
See attached "devicemgr.png"
And then this is the message I get when I point it to the "right" folder with the drivers:
See attached - "unabletoinstall.png"
So, on the Android SDK site I noticed this message:
"The USB driver for Windows provides support for the following Android-powered devices:
T-Mobile G1* / ADP1
T-Mobile myTouch 3G* / Google Ion
Verizon Droid*
Nexus One
* Or similar hardware on other carriers
Any additional devices will require Windows drivers provided by the hardware manufacturer.
^So is all of this HTC's fault? I've downloaded a couple of different .zip folders from different threads claiming that these drivers would work. But none of them have yet to do the trick for me.
I'm new at this so I have a few other questions as well:
Most guides I've read about how to do a Nandroid backup always recommend flashing a ROM b/f doing a backup. But I want to backup my current stock rom and settings before I flash. Wouldn't I want to create a recovery image before installing any other ROMs? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding some requirements?
Referring again to the thread on the CyanogenMod RC, can someone help me understand step #3? How do I know if it is necessary to update my radio? What implications does this have? I tried looking for info about this on the wiki and I couldn't find anything comprehensive enough to answer my question.
I'd appreciate any guidance!
Before you modify anything you will want to boot into recovery, assuming you flashed one, by holding down Home and turning the phone phone back on(power button). But since you don't have adb working then you probably haven't. You can still do this using terminal on your phone.
Download terminal emulator from market and then download a revoery image (AmonRa 1.6.2 or Darch's 1.7xx) and then mount your sdcard to the computer and transfer the recovery to the root of the sdcard. Open up terminal emulator and type in
Code:
su
cd /sdcard
flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img(type the exact file name of the recovery you are using)
reboot recovery
If you had factory 2.1 on your phone then you have the latest radio. The radio can be flashed just like any ROM, but make sure that the radio is not for GSM phones as this will destroy your phone.
Instructions from Android Developers and ADB, Fastboot, and Nandroid for Noob
Download the latest Android SDK.
Unzip to C:\AndroidSDK
Right-click on (My) Computer, and select Properties
Go to Advanced settings
XP: Click the Advanced tab
Vista/7: Click Advanced system settings on the left
Click the Environment Variables button
double-click on Path (under System Variables)
Add the full path to the tools/ directory:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\
(make sure a semicolon ( separates this new path from all the others)
Latest windows sdk version appears to need: "C:\AndroidSDK\android-sdk-windows\tools", install location may change with further updates..
Run C:\AndroidSDK\SDK Setup.exe
If you get an error about not having Java SDK installed but you do, add the path to 'bin' within your Java installation location to the Path environmental variable as described above before the sdk entry you just made. (eg add "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin;") This is likely to only be necessary where the 64 bit Java SDK is installed (obviously) on a 64 bit machine.
If it gives you an error about http go to settings and click on "Force http//....."
Unselect all options except for the USB driver
If you can't get the setup to work, download the USB-DRIVERS folder - HERE (Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7)
On your phone, click Settings > Applications > Development and make sure USB Debugging is on.
Plug your phone into your computer via USB cable (it needs to be on). It should say installing drivers if using Windows.
After it installs the drivers, goto the Start menu and type cmd into the search bar (Vista or higher) or click Run then type in cmd (XP) to open the command prompt.
Type the following into the command prompt window:
adb devices
You should see a serial number pop up, it’s the serial number of your phone. This means you are all set. If you do NOT see a serial number, then we need to reinstall the drivers.
Download USBDeview
While the phone is still plugged in, open USBDeview and sort by manufacturer. Find all the HTC/Android drivers and uninstall them all. (Windows Vista requires program to be run as an administrator, otherwise files won't uninstall.)
Once all have been uninstalled, unplug the phone from the USB cable and plug it back in.
The correct drivers should reinstall automatically (check the drivers as they are installing, one should say ADB Device driver).
To check, go to Devices in your Start menu then click on the “Android Phone”. Click on the Hardware tab, and check the list of drivers for ADB Interface under Type.
Done! Now you can use ADB to alter your phone from your computer.
If all else fails try installing HTC Sync software-- http://member.america.htc.com/download/Driver/HTC Hero (Sprint)/HTC_Sync_2.0.40.exe and then removing the drivers for it and then trying to install the android sdk drivers
Or you can dual boot with Linux and all you will need to do is download and unzip android sdk and edit 2 files and everything will work.
WOW>>>>>no that is way to confusing. the best thing to do is install vmware workstation. Then do a virtual WINDOWS XP MODE. from there you will be able to install the drivers and such in order to get the phone to be seen.
the version of htc sync i used for all my computers including win 7 was 2.0.33
if you want it then just pm me and I will get it to you
they don't offer it for a download anymore
this version corrected all my driver issues
Hey guys,
I'm trying to update my gf's Galaxy S to JP6 via the latest Kies 2. The program connects initially and notifies about a firmware update.. accepting this brings up some T&C nonsense, choosing 'accept' brings up a box asking what to backup, at this point whether I backup or skip it will bring up an error about failed update, i9000 disconnected etc...
I've uninstalled & reinstalled Kies, no difference, can anyone suggest what the issue is and how to fix it?
It's UK O2 Branded, currently running JP5 (which was updated by an older version of Kies v1.5 that worked on Win XP). The PC in question this time is running Windows 7 64bit. I rooted the phone using SuperOneClick and had installed RyanZA's OCLF v2 from the market.. i've undone the OCLF now though.
Kies and Win 7 x 64 i have never got it working . But have on Win 7 x32 .

Try to run Kies as "administrator" with "windows xp compatibility mode".

End to the Noob Bashing...
Just realised that i was looking at the wrong post when i posted this data so the reasons for posting bit at the top of this will make no sense....sentiment still true though. Hope it helps either way.
Ok, i'm a Techie. I know without a shaddow of a doubt that my Laptop is fine in every respect and yet it was doing this to me also.
Believe me when i say, you're not insane, and despite what others say you DO have a valid question which DOES deserves a valid answer...ENOUGH of the trollish Noob bashing 'non answers'.
If you are having the EXACT same issue as the original poster, heres what you do:
With your phone unplugged....
Update Kies:
Make sure you have updated Kies to the most recent version. Either do this by going to your mobile phone opperators website and downloading the updated software version directly or by using the help --> Check for Updates option. Latest version at time of writing is: 2.0.2.11071_128.
Once up-to-date, close Kies. Although probably not essential, use 'Task Manager' to end any Kies related processes.
Uninstall Samsung USB Driver Software:
1) Navigate to Control Panel and open either (Windows 7/Vista) 'Programs and Features' or (Windows XP/2000) 'Add Remove Programs'
2) Scroll through the list of programs to find one called 'SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones'. If it is installed, right click it and select 'Uninstall'
3) Run through the process of uninstalling the software.
Tidy up Devices:
1) Right Click 'My Computer' select properties
2) On windows 7 (possibly Vista also...dont know as I skipped that generation) ONLY, select the 'Advance System Settings' option over to the left of the window.
3) Select the 'Advance' tab in the 'System Properties' window that appears.
4) Click 'Environmental variables'
5) In the 'System Variables' section of the window that appears, click 'New...'
6) In 'Variable Name:' type 'DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES' without the quotes
7) In 'Variable Value:' type '1' without the quotes
8) Click 'OK' times 3 to exit the windows you opened
9) If Windows 7 (or Vista) close the 'View basic information about your computer' window also.
10) Open 'Control Panel' and navigate through to 'Device Manager'
11) Click the 'View' menu and select 'Show Hidden Devices'. This will display all mothballed devices i.e. those devices which have previously been plugged in but then removed. Windows stores a record of the drivers in the background of the system to speed up the process of installing the device drivers when you next plug in said device. Sometimes, in the case of Network Cards for example, not only will it store the drivers but it will also store its settings. This can cause a problem as if you were to plug in a replacement Network Card and set it to use the same static IP address, the mothballed device will clash with the current device. Without the environmental variable setting being configured as above, even when you show hidden devices, mothballed devices remain hidden.
12) Starting from the top, expand each of the branches in the tree to see the devices within them.
13) Look for anything with a 'Samsung', 'MTP', 'GT-I9000' prefix. If found, right click and select 'Uninstall' and confirm at the prompt. BE CAREFUL NOT TO UNINSTALL ANYTHING YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT. Google it if need be to figgure out what it is and if its not a Samsung or android related device then leave it well alone.
14) Close Device Manager once you have assessed the final branch.
Re-Install Samsung USB Driver Software:
1) Open Kies
2) Expand the 'Tools' menu and select the 'Install Driver' option.
3) Click ok to any prompts to fire off the process.
4) Wait for it to complete.
5) On completion click 'Ok' to acknowledge if required.
At this stage, it may be worth turning off your Windows Firewall and AV scanners just to be on the safe side. Probably not an essential step but may make a difference. If you're not confident enough with computers to do this then dont bother.
Re-Connect Samsung Galaxy Device:
1) Plug the Micro USB cable that came with your device in to ANY of your most trust worthy USB sockets.
2) Plug the other end into the Micro USB socket of your Samsung Galaxy S.
3) Allow Kies to pickup your device and display the storage information proving it is properly connected.
4) If an update is avaialble for your device, Kies should prompt you. If you are confident that you have all the data backed up onto your computer, then proceed with the Firmware update.
5) Click either the Backup or Skip Backup option.
6) Panic a little when the device appears to disconnect YET AGAIN!
7) Chuckle to yourself knowingly once it blasts through this onto the update.
8) Once completed unplug from and re-plug your Samsung into your computer again.
9) Upload your backed up data.
10) Get rid of the God-Awful default dasktop layout that your Mobile provider forces onto you.
SORTED!
Dont know what causes this but what i have noticed is that once you have tidied the mothballed system devices related to your phone and re-installed the device drivers again, it appears as if there isn't any devices named with the prefix of 'MTP' in the device list but there are a few more labelled with a 'Samsung' prefix.
I suspect this is something to do with Samsung at long last fully qualifying their own drivers but not bothering to tidy up the mess that the old devices left behind as part of the Kies update process. Either that or Windows prevents the Samsung USB Driver installer software from being able to delete/update existing Samsung devices.
Enjoy!
I wish I could say this worked for me... but alas, it has not...
This is from a post I entered earlier today... (no change from this either)

... steps that worked for me
1, downloaded MyBackup (free version)
2, did backup of both apps and data (put both on ext memorycard)
3, used the restore to factory option under privacy in the settings menu
4, unmounted internal sd card and formated it (to remove the mtp loop issue)
5, run kies,
6, select update firmware,
7, at the box where it says no device connected, put into test mode (ctrl + alt + U + P)
8, connected phone
9, detected thaqt there was an update to JM1 available
10, started update,

I have yet to do any of this (other than get a backup using MyBackup), but have some questions... (noob here)
Step 3: Will this remove all the definitions for my phone number and/or provider as well?
Step 7: the CTRL+ALT+U+P thing doesn't work with Kies 2.0.2 so if I am unable to do an update, will the phone be at Froyo (2.2) as it is now? or does it revert to 2.1 (which it was when I bought the unit)?
I also got this "Informational" record from the Event Manager... (I could hear the system connect, then drop the Kies connection)

Well had to go through Samsung Support... they got me to reset to factory default (since I had a backup) then do the Kies update...
All is better although it would be nice to know what had gone wrong...
Im learning android dev n java. When i had official v20a, it was shown in eclipse online when i ran my apps for testing.
But since i installed cm 10.1 (april 29 updated), it shows my phone but offline n i cant test my apps
Sometimes it show up as online but most of the times it show my phone offline. When it is offline i tried following things but it does not show online even after them...

Hi , try this:
1)Run eclipse : windows -> sdk manager . Close eclipse (not the sdk manager) and upgrade your sdk to 4.2.2 and perform all the updates that the sdk manager find.
2)Run eclipse : it will report some problem and advice you to check for updates : do it and upgrade. If eclipse doesn't report any error you can perform the check via help->check for updates.
3)Restart eclipse and you are ok

i already have 4.2.2 installed fully. and i said my phone sometimes is detected as online, but most of times it is offline
one more thing to mention.
my phone is also shown offline in adb, when i put this command in adb
adb devices [ENTER]
********** offline
it shows my phone's serial and then says it's offline, wtf?
the problem is in adb. In android 4.2.2 there is a debug usb protection .If you use the sdk 4.2.2 when you connect for the first time your device in usb debug, a popup on your screen device will ask you if that computer is trusted.
A lot of people have reported issues with this.. i've resolved easily with the upgrade of the sdk.
However there is a topic somewhere in xda with adb and fastboot drivers that work properly with 4.2.2 devices
this solved my problem.
i was studying this issue on many forums and blogs, and came to stack overflow. and found this answer.
go to your adb command prompt on pc and enter these commands one by one.
adb kill-server
set ADB_TRACE=all
adb nodaemon server
after that restart your pc,
Done!
now everytime i connect my phone with adb, it is online
Note: i don't know what these commands are doing, but it just solved my problem. the problem came out because of wrong path to sdk or something. and these commands do it magically lol, thats what i know.
Heya everybody ! So I got me a Galaxy gear yesterday and I was eager to get home and root it and put a custom rom on it, since I need it for some apps + I got a Htc m7. So I get home, connect it to my macbook, (noticed that the usb debugging was already switched on) and ran adb. I'm no stranger to adb and fastboot but far from a pro (I just read tons of instructions and learn simple commands) So After running ./adb devices I just get the List of devices : and an empty list.
I've tried it on another mac, same thing. On 2 different PC's with win 7 and 8, same thing.
On the macs I've deleted any apps that might have anything to do with such drivers like Android file transfer.
Updated the adb_usb.ini vendors.
on the pc's Ive uninstalled and installed over and over all the drivers and still get the same problem.
+ I've tried all types of adb's, downloading the sdk over and over again with no result.
I even tried restoring the device a couple of times and even reinstalled the stock rom with Odin.
I've done pretty much everything I can find on the net on how to fix this issue.
Can you guys please help me with some Ideas ?
P.S
in adb I've tried the ./adb kill-server about a 100 times, so have I restarted each pc/mac 100 times and changed between every usable usb port.
One this I notice that on my mac when I go to the "device manager"/"system report", Under USB it says TIZEN with this info :
Product ID: 0x6860
Vendor ID: 0x04e8 (Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.)
Version: 4.00
Serial Number: 441f900f41018dc9
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Samsung
Location ID: 0x1d110000 / 8
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 96
Oh the gear :
Model : SM-V700
Software version : V700XXuCNF1
I would appreciate any ideas and comments ! Thank you guys !!!
Add :
Oh and also Cydia Impactor can't find the device.(forgot to mention it)
Add 2 :
Oh and on the PC I installed and uninstalled Kies a couple of times.
Your gear isn't using android sdk. It's using Tizen. Download this sdk.

Didn't see that one coming thank you.
P.s
I just installed it, and I'm kinda lost. Cant find anything in it which I know how to use ? Any pointers on what to do after installing this SDK ?
Edit:
I tried using the sdb as adb and still I get an empty list.
Did install it on both my mac and pc. and it's like nothings changed.
EDIT LAST :
Ok so I ran this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770183&page=13
from Odin to my device, and now my SDB finds my device. but I still cannot install apk files and not sure should i flash a recovery now and actually pretty confused on whats going on.

Q&A for [ROM] HUAWEI Ascend W1-U00 | v1.00
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

It seems that in this video it's described, how the sdcard-problem can be permanently solved, so that we don't have to put the card out and in after a shutdown. Is this right?
Can this be implemented in the rom?
I don't understand the steps to do in the video. I can only recognize that i has something to do with visual studio. Can someone describe it more detailed?

You did notice that this is an emulated device I hope? Rules for an emulator and for a live device are usually different.. just because a fix works in the emulator it doesn't have to work with the device.. and as far as I'm aware it doesn't.

I need help
Hello, I also use the HUAWEI Ascend W1 I come from China, I would like to know about the method of making the rom, and I open the app file will get a mbn file and do not know how to proceed, and I'm very interested in this, you can explain under it? It will be possible to install the rom from Osx or linux?
Registry tweaks from russian forum (4pda)
Here, guys, tweaks for our HUAWEI W1.
Go to \Windows\Packages\RegistryFiles and place OEMSettings.reg here.
First bootup will be ~2 minites.
Tweak list:
-Camera sound on/off in sound settings;
-Wi-Fi connection sound on/off;
-3g/Wi-Fi arrows in status bar switched on;
-Activated PfD (don't install program);
-Jailbreak(interop unlock,capabilities unlock)
-Can be installed hacked appx's from wp-seven
-SDK registered
-Search button opens google
-Any app can be placed to camera's button (e.g. OneShot)
-Now you have Nokia Lumia 920 (doesn't really work).
To make your phone 'NL920', you must mount in regedit 'SYSTEM' and install 2nd (zip). After that, you can easily install all Nokia Exclusives via SysApp Pusher (also, more apps in store!).
I think you've got a typo in the OEMSettings.reg file (inside the same-named archive), on one of the tweaks that's supposed to give file system via USB:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\controlset001\services\MtpSvn]
should be
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\controlset001\services\MtpSvc]
unless it's supposed to control the Media Transfer Protocol Subversion
Will this work with Huawei Ascend W1-U00 from Globe PH plan?
Hi.
My phone was given to me by my mother who received it with her Globe (a Philippine mobile network service provider) postpaid plan (which unusually uses prepaid services). I've been frustrated with this phone's storage becoming full very easily even though I only have very few apps (except for Spider-Man Unlimited which downloaded a 200-MB DLC) installed and I don't put any files in the phone storage. Since Huawei seemingly abandoned their Windows phones, there's no hope of us getting any update so we're stuck with the stock WP8 update 1. Will this custom ROM work with this particular W1-U00? Does anyone know where I can get a stock ROM for this particular phone?

That's not true at all. QPST works perfectly fine on Windows 8. The only issue is if you're running a x64 OS, in which case you need to run the QPST programs as admin.
Is this ROM only in English language?
Problems with Flashing

At First thanks for the good work. I will donate it, if i getting it work for me.
I got some Problems with flashing.
1) With Flash Tool:
Diag Setting is on, Phone is resetted and with the Flashtool i get the "Firmware Handshake Fail"-Error.
2) With QPST i can get into Download Mode (Qualcomm ... 9008) but then it shows me a "Cookie not received"-Error.
I tried the Flashtool in Downloadmode but that doesnt recognize my device.
My PC-Config:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

My Handy-FW:

Edit:
I got the Problem. It only works for me without Diag Settings and only with QPST.
The folder from the Repair Bootloader was: W1-U00 Repair bootloader/flashing/
and i only copied the "flashing" folder. Now no "Cookie"-Error.
Hope this helps someone....

Can anyone please help me with this? I was able to flash the ROM with mass storage mode capability and set my phone to mass storage mode. Now, I can't flash the custom ROM because of this error. I don't think I missed anything. I'm running this on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I didn't install MS Visual Studio 2013 since it requires Windows 8.1. I did install the Qualcomm USB drivers, simpleio, and QPST. I have MS Visual C++ 2005, 2008, and 2012 (all 32-bit) installed.
Arhy's workaround didn't work for me, by the way.
personal settings/data
Hi everybody,
is there a possibility to flash the rom and still keeping the wp8 personal settings (like contacts, certificates, calendar arrangements,...)
Or is it possible to do a "backup" of personal data in wp8 and do restore in wp8.1 ?
Any hints welcome.
BTW
Thanks for the rom and the hard work...

As far as is can see you just can backup fotos, messages, and IE-settings.
(no contacts, calender-information, certificates,...)
Is there another way to get at least my contacts from WP8 to WP8.1?
An additional question:
Is it possible to get back to WP8 after flashing the WP8.1 rom?
Any hints welcome
best regards
