[Q] How to change a kernel's boot logo? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I'm currently using Glitch's CM7 kernel on my phone, but I would really love to change it so that the kernel doesn't have a custom logo (GLITCH Galaxy S) and instead behaves like a stock kernel (just shows model number i9000M)
Is it possible to modify the image using Glitch's source, and if so, how?
Thanks in advance.

Right, I think it should be possible to do it considering I can build a zImage file from Glitch's source on GitHub. I just need to know what to change

i think the best way to know what to change there is speak to someone dev about it, maybe they answer you

No, it will be a a kernel-related issue.

i usually place bootanimation.zip in /system/media
as already said, it depends on kernel.
eg. in Talon kernel the file must be named sanim.zip and goes to the same location.
it also can happen the kernel not supporting boot animations...
reading kernel instructions, usually is a good idea

I am using the 2.3.4 Gingerbread leaked ROM (XXJVQ).. Could you please link me a working kernel with that rom? I wanted to customize bootanimations so much

i'm not yet on JVQ (waiting for Juwe's update)

Just ask for bootanimation-support in the related threads (but before asking always read the feature list of a kernel ).

Changing of bootanimation does not require u to change ur kernel.Changing of kernel will not make u lose ur root access.Only changing of roms make u lose ur apps unless u install (no wipe) roms. Before changing kernel u need to disable lagfix before changin kernel to prevent problems appearing

Are you sure is not required? i've seen everywhere that only some kernels supports changing of bootanimation. How can i change bootanim w/o flashing new kernel?

Not all kernels support changing the bootanimation.

Try absolute system tools for great interface with previews and massive choice of boot animations
Is that an app available on market?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Anyway the problem is not where/how to place .zip file... The problem is that lot of kernels don't recognize .zip bootanimations, but just .qmg boots.

How to change kernel, without changing ROM,

Guys please suggest me on how to change the kernel without changing ROM, the only reason is to get a better battery back up
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA
Just flash it via cwm, it will not affect your current settings... If you don`t have, you must root your phone and install cwm recovery, download your desired kernel and flash it...
And read a little bit in development section, it`s all there...
Yup, flashing a kernel will not change your ROM.

Thanks bro

[Q] How do I change kernels in a Stock rom .zip?

Well, the question says it. The reason why is because my ace is incompatible with flashing kernels. Meaning, I'll get major battery drain issues no matter what kernel I flash after installing a rom. The only kernel I can use is the one that comes with the rom. I tried opening up the KTS zip and couldn't find the kernel. I want to add the battery extender one. I've seen some different tutorials but I wanted to hear everything from someone who's done it on the Ace specifically.
Can someone tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance.
boot.img is the kernel.
In some roms its, zimage.

Thanks, found it. What do I have to do to zip it back up? Make it a .zip with the same name as the KTS file?

yes, use a stock kernel gingerdx for the port. But when installing the rom not work :silly:
I already carry x8 custom roms the kernel but I have this problem with the stock kernel :fingers-crossed:
If you have unlocked bootloader, you need a stock kernel with modified ramdisk (what start adb at boot time), and check the logcat while the phone boot. Tip: use qtadb, with this app you get a real-time logcat window, and you can check what happen when the boot process stopping. (a typical error is an incompatible/missing binary or lib file)
