I was driving today in a 4G area and after I got off the phone with a friend my phone just kinda lost any sort of data connection. When I lost the service It ried a reboot to no avail and it started the download of the OTA update which shortly after failed due to me not having a data connection. Anyone know of a fix?
Ok well I woke up this morning and it was working. Idk what fixed it but it's all good now.

Hey guys,
I was hoping someone here could help me out. I just got my Nexus one Today, and I am charging it as we speak. But anyways I was playing around with it while it charges and it randomly crashes and restarts on me. I already did the auto update over the air to FROYO, but it is still doing the same thing. Also it seems to do it mainly in apps that use the gps, for example the compass app will do it every time.
It took me a month to get this phone to me in Costa Rica, and it would be way outside my available time and budget to get it replaced. So I hope it is a software problem, maybe some way to do a swipe or something.
PS: I already tried wiping it from the settings options, but it didn't help. Also I would like to root this phone, but I am to afraid now as I don't know if there is a hardware problem with it.
Thanks for you help, it is much appreciated!
I think random reboots are standard on the nexus. Mines stock and I've had the problem since I got it. But it only happens every couple days or so so im not too worried. How often is yours rebooting?
No this is every 5min.
But I think I figured it out. First off I realized it only happened with sim card in. Then I realized it only happened when I forced the WCDMA, which I need for 3g in Costa Rica. Then I realized that if I enabled roaming, even though I am not, and Left WCDMA on forced, it also stoped. So that is what I did, and it has been going for 30min now. Fingers crossed.
I am still going to get the official Froyo and place it on the sd card then wipe in recovery and update. Just for safety.
So yeah Looks like software issue. Which is really good for me! If it keeps working I am going to root it soon, can't stand that white notification bar
Earlier today I tried the OTA update and failed. When I got home from work. I used odin to go back to stock without root, and it let me run the upgrade again. This time it failed again and now my phone won't even boot up. It acts like it is getting no power.
Any suggestions?
batt pull?
Ive tried everything. It won't even let me get into download or recovery mode. How strange.
same here, canceled the download to turn on wifi, went back to download then update and now it's totally bricked...
on the phone now with ATT waiting to speak with tech support.
hmmm....let me know what happens! im scared now :/

Not sure if its related but I found a file saying this on my desktop.
"<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<REFLASH><UNIT><ESN>MY IMEI # WAS HERE</ESN><TIMESTAMP>20100922154841</TIMESTAMP><RESULT>PASS</RESULT><SOFTWARE_NAME>Downloader</SOFTWARE_NAME><SOFTWARE_VER>3.00</SOFTWARE_VER><OEM_NAME>SAMSUNG</OEM_NAME></UNIT></REFLASH>"
Happened to a few of us. Nothing works. The phone is completely dead.
I found out that if you even pause the download, it will make your phone become inoperable. This came straight from ATT tech support. They said once it starts the update you pretty much can't touch the screen or do anything with the phone. Once it because inoperable there isn't anything you can do to get it back in working order. You pretty much are left with a pretty paper weight.

Yep. I had to go exchange mine yesterday. They looked at the phone like 'how did that happen...?'. Told them the FW update cancelled in the middle but still tried to apply and now we have a nice paperweight. He just looked at me like 'wow, that sucks...' and set me up a new Captivate.
It really doesn't make sense though. The resume button is there but it doesn't resume the D/L. How can you code a FW update to apply a partial file....

Yeah it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I got my new captivate in the mail today. They over nighted it to me. The strange part is my battery was completely dead when I put it in the new captivate. I'm trying to charge it now but its going up very very slow. I had a full charge when I started to update yesterday. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
To be honest I'm almost afraid to try and use any OTA updates anymore.
to be honest, im tempted to try this just to see what happens.

Curiosity kills the cat Captivate...?
Got my Captivate exchanged yesterday and it of course didn't work well. Got a new one today, GPS does not work what-so-ever...
I'm thinking of just returning this phone and that's it. What's sad is the phone that bricked worked perfectly.

SAME HERE!!! I made sure mine was fully charged before I started the update. Update failed, phone wouldn't turn on, got a new one this morning and my battery was critically low.

I tried both www.spirent.lcs.com and supl.google.com and non work. I'm having more issues in the last 20 hours than I had in 3 1/2 weeks with my first Captivate. AT&T rep just told me to go exchange the phone again and not to leave the store until I get a fully functional phone - and wrote that in special instructions to the store on my account notes.
This is REALLY frustrating. I've been completely in love with my new Captivate for the past two weeks. It's worked extremely well, and been very stable. Not one problem at all, until now.
Just this evening, it decided to disconnect itself from the AT&T server (the popular 'connection failed' message. It has full bars, and can still make calls just fine. But it won't connect to the internet, sync my accounts, etc. It will also not connect over wifi, which I thought would work fine. I was wrong. It also isn't being recognized by my computer, no matter which mode I select. Even debugging mode isn't registering. I've rebooted the phone half a dozen times. Nothing. I've checked all network settings. Everything looks good. I've tried booting into the secret flash menu mode and resetting from that menu. Nothing.
Anyone else had this issue? What can I do to get this fixed? I need my phone back online for work asap.
If you are inside you 30 day window, return it and try another one. Sounds like a haardware failure, if you haven't been messing with flashing roms.
OMG I am having the EXACT same issue. My started this past Saturday. It will not for the life of me connect to the network. Its so frustrating...of course ATT has no solution to the problem exact sending me a warranty exchange....which I would rather not do, because it takes days to get the phone set up! ugggh~!!!!! if someone has any input in regards to a possible solution I would be forever grateful

I am by no means an expert, as I have only been a cappy owner for all of 3 days, but I have been doing a lot of reading and have been customizing my phones since the beginning of time, what exactly is taking days to set up? surely someone here knows a way to speed up that process for you.

I'm referring to getting it "setup" to my preferences..you know downloading apps, getting the widgets placed just so etc. Its all time consuming (for me at least).
I talked to a ATT rep who is "an android specialist" and she did a factory reset....which still sucks b/c I still have to redo everything on my phone.
Maybe it will help, fingers crossed. ..
I received the latest update to 4.4.4 this past Wednesday. This is the update that included the HTC Eye Experience. The update went smooth and everything was all good until I was driving home from work. The phone randomly rebooted itself and ever since, I cannot get Wi-Fi to turn off. It stays off for approximately one minute and then turns right back on. I have searched this forum and others all day with no solution seeming to help. I also hard reset the phone earlier today but the problem persists. Anyone had this issue or have any solutions? Thank you in advance!

Do you Sprint Connection Optimizer running? That'll keep Wi-Fi on. See this http://support.sprint.com/support/t..._Optimizer_on_or_off_HTC_Onereg_M8/51761-1469

Thanks for responding! Its not Connections Optimizer. It has been turned off from day 1 but I did recheck and it is still off. My M8 is not rooted and completely stock. It worked great up until this update. I tried soft reset and hard reset to no avail. There is a message that pops up in the notification bar sometimes (Wi-Fi notification with a red triangle) that says setup has not been complete but nothing happens when I click on it and it goes away. Sprint is, of coarse, no help at all. They want to send me a new phone but I really don't think this is a hardware issue. Maybe a bad download?
So, I've been running the N Preview since just after finding out that there was a beta program to join, about 5 days ago, give or take. 2 days ago, my phone's wifi started acting up. I put it down to go to sleep and it was fine, and I woke up the next morning and found out it was constantly disconnecting, shutting off on it's own after I just turned it on, and the wifi hotspot list was glitching out, flickering, and connecting/disconnecting rapidly to my home network. About an hour ago, I decided that I had had enough of it disconnecting while I was streaming content (for whatever reason, my house is just out of range of the T-Mobile LTE cell tower for this area, or I'd be streaming it from that and not worrying about the wifi), and made the decision to do a factory reset to see if it would fix the glitching. It seems now that that was a mistake, as it's been stuck on the Erasing screen for about an hour. Not sure what to do at this point. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated at this point.
[Disclaimer: I am fully aware that this software is still in beta, and that things will be broken and/or not working, and that it was not recommended to install on daily driver devices. However, what's done is done, and I'd like to have my phone working again. So please refrain from scolding/harassing me about any of this.]
What do you mean by 'stuck on the erasing screen'?

True, but I've read some people not getting the ota after unenrolling. I'd rather just do it myself since the first thing I did was unlock the bootloader lol either way the phone is going to get wiped. I hope the OP phone doesn't get borked because it hung up on factory erasing the phone, and his bootloader is locked

Aah oke, got my rollback OTA last week in a minute or so
Ok, so just woke up and it seems to have shut off. Turning the device on now...
And it seems to have successfully reset. It's currently on the setup screen, and I'm going through it now.
And for the moment, the wifi seems to have been fixed, at least for now. Not sure if the device is on N or Marshmallow though, but we'll see.
