I'm still a noob with samsung devices, I'm selling the tab for the 10.1 tomorrow and I need to get it wiped out. Can I factory wipe it while rooted? Or will that mess everything up? What steps should I take? Any tips are a big help. Thanx guys!

I picked up a Verizon Galaxy Tab on Craigslist. I set it up and it seemed to be working fine. Then things started forceclosing, making the device nearly impossible to use. I keep trying to hard reset the Tab, via the settings app, also via the manual mode, it goes through the process as if it's resetting, but it will not clear the device. I'm still logged in to all my accounts. Is there some other way to clear the device back to the stock ROM? It is not rooted.
Power off.hold down power and volume up button.Do a wipe cache and factory than reboot.problem solved.

Hey thanks for the response, appreciate it. One would think that would solve everything. Yet it doesn't. It shows that it's clearing the cache, and then that it's resetting device, I get the warning that all data will be lost. It does nothing. I reboot via the menu and nothing is deleted, accounts, apps are all there.
I'm wondering if perhaps I need completely reflash the stock image on the Tab. I have done that before on a Fascinate, but not on a Tab, so I'm not sure of the process. If anyone can direct me to a good link, I'd appreciate it. I'm new to hacking on the Tab. Thanks again!

Hi Everyone.
Following on from my question this morning asking this question I have more time to be specific.
My note is unrooted and I downloaded to ICS 11.06.12 using Kies. Everything seemed to be going well except for the fact the phone just keeps switching itself on and off. For example; the screen is off, I want to check the time or date, by pressing the home button the screen switches on, all fine there, but then 7 out of ten times the phone then reboots. It has done this during calls, using apps and playing games when my son uses it.
Does anyone else have this issue or better still anyone have an idea why it does it?
Many thanks

He says he's not rooted so there's no option to clean dalvik.
Also wiping cache under ics can trigger superbrick. Either install Speedmod kernel and wipe dalvik and cache, or downgrade to gb, perform full wipe of all, the upgrade again.

do not use recovery unless you are on safe kernel. All ics stock kernels are unsafe. Downgrade to gb rom or install a safe kernel than do wipe/factory reset. All the instructions are present in this forum read carefully.

Hi there! This is my first message. I am Jon, from Basque Country (Spain). Oh, and sorry for my English..
I was wondering if you have resolved this screen info issue?? I kinda got the same problem, and didn't know how to fix it.
Thanks in advance!!:good:
Go to settings developer options and see any of it checked
Hi there! Thanks to everybody for your answer!
I have been doing things, but no luck. This is what I have already done on the cell:
1. First, I did a wipe cache partition and Dalvik cache.
2. Then I flashed Abyss kernel and did "Wipe data/factory reset) and re-flashed kernel CF.
3. I flashed notecore v4 (which was stored in my external sd card), did full wipe.
4. Finally, I downgraded to GB and upgraded to 4.0.4 with Odin PC.
But...non of these solved the problem... I don't know what else I could do. :crying:
Maybe I should just call Samsung and have them repair it...
Oh, and thanks to everybody for your answer and your concern about the full-wipe thing. I was aware of the risk, so I think I did it well, didn't I? hehehe

Do not perform a factory reset while using a stock kernel, there is a very real chance of you bricking your device. There is a lot of existing info on this!

I am having the same problem
Please please please help
This is direct ctly due to a damaged efs partition which holds unique device info, if you post screen shots, please blank out any unique data.
So far, the only fix is to download gb rom, reflash with pc odin, then take backup of efs partition (make sure you have one at all times anyway, it's imperative), then re upgrade. If same situation, and restore your efs under ics.
Backup and restore efs partition here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18524176
Please heed ganjamans warnings, never factory reset or do any wipes under stock or unsafe kernels, you're likely to brick.

Thank you very much, Spyder!!
Sorry I answer now (a little lazy to web browsing while on holiday..) I will do just what you said...Didn't think it was a problem of the efs partition, but it does make sense. I will let you know if it solved the issue.
Again, thanks a lot!! :good:
Hello guys
I have a stock Rom dev. Edition with root.
I'm having some issue and wanna go back to stock. I can keep root as once I do like a factory reset, I will root again
I tried the factory rest from settings but it doesbt work. So I was gonna do a wipe from recovery but was worried I would end up without any Rom.
Can some one tell me the way to do it?
Thanks.

you should be able to do a factory reset through recovery without problem. the rom will not be deleted as long as you don't format the sd card/system partition..
Hey guys,
I'm selling my rooted HTC One, and I want to make sure all my apps and data are deleted off of it.
The guy I'm selling it to doesn't want it booted, so I don't want to return it to stock.
Is there a simple way for me to securely delete all my data? If I do "reset to factory settings" I understand it will brick it.
Thanks!
Daniel

Deleting a personal data using the factory reset will not brick anything - it only wipes a partitions what is ok.
Returning back to stock (not rooted, locked etc.) is a different story and there are few guides how to do that without bricking..
