[Q] Deleting all personal data from rooted HTC One? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm selling my rooted HTC One, and I want to make sure all my apps and data are deleted off of it.
The guy I'm selling it to doesn't want it booted, so I don't want to return it to stock.
Is there a simple way for me to securely delete all my data? If I do "reset to factory settings" I understand it will brick it.
Thanks!
Daniel

Deleting a personal data using the factory reset will not brick anything - it only wipes a partitions what is ok.
Returning back to stock (not rooted, locked etc.) is a different story and there are few guides how to do that without bricking..

Update to Froyo (OTA or Manual) wipes data?

Hi Guys
I tried searching before I posted this one - if not, I'm sorry
I have a stock unlocked Nexus One AT&T (EPE54B) with stock (unrooted) 2.1 installed
Since Google has started rolling out Froyo update for the Nexus this week, I am very much looking forward to it
A small question I had was if I update to Froyo (FRF85) over the air, do I lose the data on my phone? I have MyBackupPro installed - Will that help, or should I do something else?
Will it be the same if I install Froyo manually?
Cheers to all for reading this post

You shouldn't lose data in either case, assuming you don't wipe when doing a manual install, but I would certainly use something like titanium backup just to be sure.
@MSigler
Thanks for the reply - But don't I need to root to get TitaniumBackup to work?
Wouldn't any app that does not need root back my stuff up 'reliably'?
Just a little paranoid about rooting my 2-month old Nexus.

Astro File manager would back up all your apps, but will not backup your app data.

D'oh! You're right. I keep forgetting not everyone is rooted.
You really aren't going to lose much with a stock rom though.
Any paid apps will show up in market under "Downloads" so you can download them again.
Your contacts and emails are synced through your google account.
Pictures and music are on your SD card, so they won't be effected at all.
Basically, if for some reason you have to wipe your phone data, you will lose your call log, your app settings (meaning you'll have to go back into the apps and set up your preferences and such), and your text messages.
You shouldn't lose anything at all, but that's the worst case.
I updated from unrooted EPE54B using the manual method and didn't lose a thing....

Yeah, you shouldn't lose any data, but I would feel like **** if I told him not to worry about it and he lost all his data, so I'm going with worst case.

Thanks guys
I'll try updating my phone manually today (if I do not get an OTA update by today noon) - Will update my findings here
I guess this answers my question and we can consider this a closed topic.
Ok, i just updated my stock unrooted unlocked N1 2.1 to Froyo in less than 6 minutes.
Confirmed no data loss when you update.
Sweet!

[Q] Verizon SCH-i800, lost memos when factory reset, anyway to recover?

My mom's Verizon SCH-i800 (7 inch Tab) was having some random freezing and error messages, so she asked me to do a factory reset. I synced up her Google account, did a backup with MyBackup (free version), made a backup on my computer of the SD card... Anyway, did the factory reset, everything's back, except the memos from the Stock memo app. After doing some more research, I have found that said memos are stored in the system folder, which is unaccessible without root. I have searched long and hard trying to find a way to root that tablet, but have been unable to (I tried with the root that works for p1000, but that doesn't work).
So, is there a way to get back the memos? They are most of my mom's critical work over the last 6 months or so, and are extremely important to her.
I guess I'm asking 2 things.
1) Is there a way to root the SCH-i800?
2) If so, is there a way to recover files after doing a factory wipe? (I have recovered files that had been wiped from the SD card before using EaseUS Data Recovery.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm kinda desperate right now. Thanks!
(Oh, and I tried Samsung support, they were useless. Also, tablet's running 2.3.5, no modifications to the software, and she bought it from the Verizon store new less than a year ago).
THANKS!

This is how I rooted my Verizon tablet. Hope it's what you need.

Thanks! As it is, I am wary of doing another factory wipe, as that would make my chances of recovering the data be even less. I have seen roots for other devices that didn't require doing a factory wipe, any idea why this one does? Also, is there in general a way to recover data after a factory wipe?
Cheers,
-RAf
Unless you backed up the memos specifically using an app, they're gone. The memo app is stored on the system partition, not the memos themselves. If you have no backup, there is no way to recover them. They were nuked when you did the factory reset.

From what I have since researched, the memos themselves were stored in /data/data/com.sec.android.app.memo which I couldn't access due to not having root. So I guess they're gone /sigh.... Thanks anyway.

Can I use titanium backup to get rid if all this at&t bloat.

What the title says. I just want to get rid of all the at&t apps with titanium backup. Is this ok? I'm on ST and don't need or want any of them. Thanks

yes - suggest you "freeze" them rather than delete
Yes you can
Freezing them is giod than instead of deleting or removing it
tapped from DNA
Freezing is the best option. Its hard to bring it back to stock if you delete them.
Thanks everyone. Super fast responses!

What if you have already deleted a bunch and froze others? Can you Factory Reset and go into stock recovery and wipe?
Would this put everything I deleted back or am I SOL?

Factory Data Reset does not restore deleted system apps. Until an odin/oneclick is released for MJ5, your best hope is getting the apks from a phone that is on MJ5. I'd hook you up but I'm happily rooted on MI9.
Is there a list somewhere of apps that are safe to freeze?????
did got you ? :/

No. The whole point of a factory reset is to wipe your device clean. Without backup, your data is lost.

Factory data reset, before I sell it?

I have replaced my Turbo finally and I wanted to see if it is ok to do a factory data reset on it before I sell it.
It's Lollipop unlocked and rooted. Should I sell it this way, or un-root it?
If I leave it rooted how can I be sure I delete my accounts and be safe to sell?
No one?
Or can I just do a factory reset and sell it.
