Power button not working how to start my mobile - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I am using Motorola Milestone, with 2 months warranty left.
Power button is not working and it drained off the battery last night. Now I am unable to start it. I am running a custom ROM. Without restoring to stock I will not be able to offer it for warranty.
It currently power off condition, how to start it without using power button?

Try removing the battery and plugging it into the wall charger to see if you can boot it up that way, you might be able to boot up enough to reinsert the battery and have it charge.

I booted it connecting to PC

In case somebody else has the problem:
I connected it to the computer without the battery and then inserted the battery...

I know that the OG always started when I plugged it in to the wall power adapter. I didn't have to take the battery out to force-boot it that way. Guessing the Milestone would be the same. Glad you got it working

My phone is hosed again.

Okay This is the 2nd phone of mine this has happened to. It was working fine, then I plugged it in to recharge and now it won't boot again.
I'm rooted, ROMed and have CWR loaded.
I've tried getting it into CWR by pressing and holding the Vol DOWN and Power button, but it keeps starting the normal boot process.
How can I get my phone back. I'm starting to lose faith in the Revo and am about to press VZW for a replacement to the Charge.
Have you tried the QuickBoot app? That ortta help.

I can't figure this out - so you are bricked, or you are just trying to access recovery?
It seems bricked. It has been running fine since I received it and rooted and loaded the Cubed ROM. I plug it in to recharge over night and in the morning it was dead. Would not boot to CWR.
I took it into VZW and they put me on with tech support. Bottom line I'm giving up on the Revo even though I prefer it to the Charge or TB. VZW is upgrading me to a Charge. I had the option of any of the three existing 4g handsets. As There are too many issues with the TB and I don't want to go through this again with another Revo (2x of this in less than 2 months of the phone being out is too much for me.)
Hopefully the Charge is more reliable. I guess I'll find out.
This is a great group who has done amazing things with this phone. Just wish I could rely on it.
take care.
No offense but the only common denominator between your first and second phone is you.
Odds are you are doing something, or there is something environmental where you are that is causing this to happen.
Are you using the same charger that came with the first phone?
Are you plugged in a power strip?

No offense taken. I did think of that. But if it was something I've done, I think it would happen immediately and not run great for over two weeks then just die.
I did not install any new SW, I'm using the same charger that came with the phone. it is not plugged into a powerstrip.
I could understand if I had been adding new programs etc... But none of that was going on. It was running great on the de-crapified ROM I was able to get 6+ hours on the battery most of the time.
Then I plugged in the phone to recharge after using it all day (had about 20% left) Went to be and woke up and dead.
Same exact thing that happened the 1st time.
Weird... I hope it gets better for you with the new phone. I just wish everyone could be as happy as I with their revo...

You wouldn't happen to be plugging it into an outlet that requires a light switch to be turned on by any chance?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
Nope. Outlet is not connected to any switch. I've used this out let for the past 18 months with no problems with other phones.

by "dead" what do you mean? any explanation?
Trust me, there's almost NO way to kill this phone by normal means.
If there was, I'd have found it by now.
Things to try:
remove battery, plug in USB to PC, hold volume UP, put in battery, hold power (while holding volume up).
That'll put you in firmware download mode.
Unplug it from usb in PC, and plug back in wall charger. Let device sit for an hour or so to charge the battery.
Once that's done, unplug battery+usb. Hold volume DOWN and power until device vibrates once.
Tada! You're in clockwork.
Hope that helps!

I'm game to give it a try, I did get the replacement Charge today and have not yet activated it.
I'm not sure of the last step however. Are saying after the battery is charged, I take out the battery and plug it into the USB on the PC then hold Power/Vol down?

Hardbricked LG Revolution

I have an LG Revolution that will not enter emergency download mode, infact I can't even get the screen to turn on no matter what I do. What happened was the battery was alot less charged than I had thought during a restoration using LGNPST; and it seems that the battery died right in the middle of the restoration.
Ideas?
had this happen once, try leaving it wall charging for a while then plug it in via usb, while plugged in via usb after chargin remove and replace batt do hard reset with phone completely off (pow + vol down) lgnpst should start then.
That didn't work. The phone won't even charge.

You may have already tried but just in case try to enter emergency download mode by taking out the battery, then plug in usb to computer, then hold power and volume UP -- not down, and then while continuing to hold the buttons insert battery.

Tried it a million times.
Any luck yet? I'm curious how this turns out...
Anyway just a random thought I had... maybe you could take it in to a store and have them charge the battery for you. It might respond better with a full battery.
Just a total guess but you never know...

I've tried to charge the battery using a USB cable connected directly to the negative and positive on the battery, but I'm not quite sure if it charged the battery as the phone still doesn't respond. I'm going to take this phone and a hardbricked HTC Thunderbolt I've got into a Verizon store some time today or tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

[Q] Is my T849 dead?

I have a T849 which I updated a long time ago to 2.3.3 using Team Overcome 4.0.0 build.
Yesterday, when turning it off I accidentally clicked on "Download" putting it into download mode!
So, I just left it like that hoping it would sort itself out.
I made sure to leave it plugged in.
Now it won't come on.
Is it dead or can I save it?
Don't know why you didn't just reboot after that accidental download mode.
By leaving it like that you have drained the battery without the kernel help to shut down when battery low.
This is Li Ion battery, it is bad to drain it like that.
Now just try to charge it for 8hrs.
If still bad, you may need new battery.

I tried to but it wouldn't do anything.
The power button simply did nothing.
I left it plugged into the power so it shouldn't have discharged.
I've plugged it in again but the charge light hasn't come on and it has not indicted that it is charging.
I'll leave it plugged in and pray.
I don't think it charges in download mode anyway even if it is plugged to charger.
Unplug and hold power for 10 seconds to ensure shutdown.
Then charge.
Worst case just buy tri-blade screwdriver from ebay and a new battery (for P1000, if you search for T849 it may be in vain).
Probably less than $50

Seems to have worked!
It is now charging so hopefully I'll be able to use it again in the morning.

mysteriously dead IncS

Yesterday my phone shutted because my battery, I connected to my car and charged a while, I got out from charging and using 2-3 minutes more and battery died again. When I got home I connected it to AC power and powered on, It was working without problem. I left my phone maybe 1 hour charging and when I took it again it was dead: screen dead, no life signal, just the led blinking slowly when connected to power (either AC and USB)...tried to take off battery but nothing. Today I connected it to PC and windows has recognized it but cannot identify it (on the PC the classic USB device not recognized error with yellow triangle on top) and the led is always blinking.
Any idea? should I have to buy a new phone?
thanks

Try Running some POST tests. As in, Power off your device and wait for few seconds. Then Press and hold your power key and your volume down key. You should be able to access your Bootloader. (If you have Rooted your device, you could access your recovery and clear the battery stats although your device's condition seems peculiar/critical). Its worth a shot If you ask me.
I have already tried it but nothing, cleared dalvik and battery stats..I cannot understand whats going on. Now phone is working again but it cannot maintain battery, I mean I kept it in charge all the night but when I power on the phone it shuts down just when it starts android (thats strange because I went to a store yestarday and tried a new battery but it didn't worked, when got home I tried to power on it again and it started)...this is driving me crazy!!
edit: I turned it on, plugged in AC charger and phone after some minutes told me that (I don't remember the exact message) power needed by the phone is more than the charger could provide...
edit2: now it is on and it is charging (USB) and it doesn't charge more than 21%...really strange
Odd that this hasn't been mentioned but perhaps try a different usb cable? Different port? Seems obvious but you never know. Cables can deteriorate.

I have tried 3 different cables and 2 different computers...same result. I have flashed a new ROM, plugged in for charging and now is stuck on 15% battery (5 minutes aga was 16%, it discharges while plugged in).
Ok maybe here is a solutions:

What do you think about?

OB left in sun..doesn't stay powered on

Hello.
I've left my phone in the hot sun for some time and it's not working anymore. When I try to power it on, the LG logo appears and screen+buttons flash continnously as if it's struggling to start but can't. *this is on battery, not plugged it.
When I plug it in charger It powers up, everything is working but it eventually reboots by itself. Sometimes it stays on 3 seconds, other times 2-3 mins, then reboots.
I've tryed wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, reinstall ROM, wipe battery stats..nothing works.
So basically if I plug out the charger it instantly shuts down and starts trying to power up in a continnous loop.
Is the battery dead?
Thanks
I think so... You could try another battery but it is possible that you may have fried some guts as well. Was it on when you cooked it in the sun?

It boots when I power it on charger, but if I try to make a phone call or 'stress' the phone, it reboots. Without charger it does not boot.

Already tried a different battery? Its quite cheap and I guess some power cells might have died and that would explain the malfunction, when you "stress" the phone and it needs more power. Maybe it is able to deal with low power, but high output simply takes it down.

I didn't buy a battery yet because I can't find one. I'm on vacation (Italy) and at the local phone service they told me they don't know this phone and asked me where it's from . and if I want a battery they have to order it and it takes time.
That's why I came here, hoping for a nice "custom" solution for the problem.
I think the battery does not know how to charge anymore, anyone knows a good clean wipe/format for the battery? besides discharge it complety and wipe stats.(because I cannot discharge it, when it's plugged in it says 100% and if I plug out the charger it dies)
thanks for the replies mates.
