Hello.
I've left my phone in the hot sun for some time and it's not working anymore. When I try to power it on, the LG logo appears and screen+buttons flash continnously as if it's struggling to start but can't. *this is on battery, not plugged it.
When I plug it in charger It powers up, everything is working but it eventually reboots by itself. Sometimes it stays on 3 seconds, other times 2-3 mins, then reboots.
I've tryed wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, reinstall ROM, wipe battery stats..nothing works.
So basically if I plug out the charger it instantly shuts down and starts trying to power up in a continnous loop.
Is the battery dead?
Thanks
I think so... You could try another battery but it is possible that you may have fried some guts as well. Was it on when you cooked it in the sun?

It boots when I power it on charger, but if I try to make a phone call or 'stress' the phone, it reboots. Without charger it does not boot.

Already tried a different battery? Its quite cheap and I guess some power cells might have died and that would explain the malfunction, when you "stress" the phone and it needs more power. Maybe it is able to deal with low power, but high output simply takes it down.

I didn't buy a battery yet because I can't find one. I'm on vacation (Italy) and at the local phone service they told me they don't know this phone and asked me where it's from . and if I want a battery they have to order it and it takes time.
That's why I came here, hoping for a nice "custom" solution for the problem.
I think the battery does not know how to charge anymore, anyone knows a good clean wipe/format for the battery? besides discharge it complety and wipe stats.(because I cannot discharge it, when it's plugged in it says 100% and if I plug out the charger it dies)
thanks for the replies mates.

I am using Motorola Milestone, with 2 months warranty left.
Power button is not working and it drained off the battery last night. Now I am unable to start it. I am running a custom ROM. Without restoring to stock I will not be able to offer it for warranty.
It currently power off condition, how to start it without using power button?

Try removing the battery and plugging it into the wall charger to see if you can boot it up that way, you might be able to boot up enough to reinsert the battery and have it charge.

I booted it connecting to PC
In case somebody else has the problem:
I connected it to the computer without the battery and then inserted the battery...
I know that the OG always started when I plugged it in to the wall power adapter. I didn't have to take the battery out to force-boot it that way. Guessing the Milestone would be the same. Glad you got it working
Yesterday my phone shutted because my battery, I connected to my car and charged a while, I got out from charging and using 2-3 minutes more and battery died again. When I got home I connected it to AC power and powered on, It was working without problem. I left my phone maybe 1 hour charging and when I took it again it was dead: screen dead, no life signal, just the led blinking slowly when connected to power (either AC and USB)...tried to take off battery but nothing. Today I connected it to PC and windows has recognized it but cannot identify it (on the PC the classic USB device not recognized error with yellow triangle on top) and the led is always blinking.
Any idea? should I have to buy a new phone?
thanks

Try Running some POST tests. As in, Power off your device and wait for few seconds. Then Press and hold your power key and your volume down key. You should be able to access your Bootloader. (If you have Rooted your device, you could access your recovery and clear the battery stats although your device's condition seems peculiar/critical). Its worth a shot If you ask me.
I have already tried it but nothing, cleared dalvik and battery stats..I cannot understand whats going on. Now phone is working again but it cannot maintain battery, I mean I kept it in charge all the night but when I power on the phone it shuts down just when it starts android (thats strange because I went to a store yestarday and tried a new battery but it didn't worked, when got home I tried to power on it again and it started)...this is driving me crazy!!
edit: I turned it on, plugged in AC charger and phone after some minutes told me that (I don't remember the exact message) power needed by the phone is more than the charger could provide...
edit2: now it is on and it is charging (USB) and it doesn't charge more than 21%...really strange
Odd that this hasn't been mentioned but perhaps try a different usb cable? Different port? Seems obvious but you never know. Cables can deteriorate.

I have tried 3 different cables and 2 different computers...same result. I have flashed a new ROM, plugged in for charging and now is stuck on 15% battery (5 minutes aga was 16%, it discharges while plugged in).
Ok maybe here is a solutions:

What do you think about?
:crying:
Opened bike race when the screen froze while opening the game (dark screen).
Pulled the battery but when I boot the screen goes on after 3 secs, stays on for 2 secs then goes into dim mode (i can see it's still on).
However my phone doesn't boot since I don't get any whatsapp messages. Normally it should boot to SIM screen but other apps should run.
X+power or M+power doesn't change much.
I'm guessing mobo/cpu fail.... any ideas?
:crying:
edit: It turns on when I put in the charger without battery! Dead battery?
If you put the battery flat on a table does in spin well. Batteries bulge when they are done. The better the spin the worse it is. It's odd the behaviour that can happen with a end of life battery

Well now I'm not so sure what it is.
When I put the cable in without battery the M logo appeared and then the charge screen with a ? in the battery (because there was none)
Then I put the battery in and it started charging.
After a while I tried to turn it on but same problem - just a black screen when power it, no logo whatsoever.
Now I can't get it to work without battery either...
edit: I don't think it can be the battery, because the screen stays on (it has power apparently) and it doens't work with cable connected either
But I also don't see it being the screen as it never vibrates like it does when you boot it.
How did it just show the charge screen before and now it doesn't??
I made a vid of what happens when I power it:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22072961/Droid 3/Video0067.mp4
The Droid 3 and Bionic are similar phones, and it turns out that the Bionic will not boot up without a battery - it will hang at the Moto logo even if plugged in. See this thread at androidforums.com: http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...via-adb-unable-boot-up-phone.html#post5463741
So, it may be that you just need a good battery pack in order to get to Recovery/Bootloader/Fastboot etc. if the phone will not start or start to Safestrap.

The worst part is using my Samsung Jet "Smarter than a smartphone". Which isn't even close to a smartphone because it doesn't have any of the OSes = no apps
In my XT860 in its power when it reaches the lockscreen, restarts or shuts.
When I put it to charge my battery shows 0% and charging. When I go to Safestrap-after several attempts-, battery shows 99% or sometimes 80%.
I think the cpu wants to leave the world of technology :crying:
edit: yeah, now i get infinite bootloops in the M DualCore LOL

I tried the stock cable that came with my phone (USB) but nothing happens. Screen doesn't even go on.
The light next to the microUSB does go on.
But my phone has never booted with USB (0.5A). When my battery was 0% I always needed a socket charger because it wouldn't go on and charge with USB
When I then insert battery and try again with stock cable same happens as in the video

Ah I see. Well I'm not in the US so getting one would be a PITA
I'm gonna try my spare battery (original battery) tomorrow. It that doesn't work it must be hardware related because I haven't flashed or done anything to it so it's not softbricked or something.
edit: it team blackhat do send to europe? How would this be different from trying another (working) battery?
Try cutting a USB cable open, hook the red wire to the + of the battery and - to the black and let it charge that way. Also, do you have any MicroUSB charger? I have one for a BB Bold I used to have that delivers I think 1.25A and it could charge my phone from dead (obviously not now with the flex cable having a rip in it).

The little light next to the USB port is the 'It's still alive" light that Moto put in when the battery is completely dead. It's to let you know that the phone *is* charging, just not high enough to boot the phone (i.e. when you let the battery completely die).
WHY they did not make it a standard charging light (like the D1 and D2) I don't know, but that's the only time it comes on. A quick flicker on USB plugin, or when the battery is dead. The light goes out when it gets enough power to boot up.

Well, it's not charging because there's no battery , the light it still on
I really dont see how its the battery because when I put it in without cable the screen turns on and stays on for as long as I keep the battery in. So it HAS power. Today I'm getting my spare battery and we'll see I guess..... don't have my hopes up

Thanks. But should it turn on when the LCD is bad? It doesn't even boot else It would vibrate once.
Can anyone confirm that the phone should boot when I remove the LCD alltogether? Else it might be a bad LCD or loose connector
I was flashing my Xperia T with flash tool and there was an error. Now I can't turn on my phone. The red led is blinking while trying to power it on. Vol up + power on also doesn't work (red led blinkinking). When connecting to pc flashtool stops on "For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode". What can I do?
First try to charge it for a few hours to see if it comes back, then you can try to repair via PC Companion or flash again

Already tried that and it's the same.
Yur battery is empty. You need to recharge. So open phone take battery out and charge it external. When battery is full just flash normal.
That is the reason why you should only flash if battery > 50%

He has a T so the battery is not removable....(Not without difficulty anyway)
Just leave it plugged in for several hours, or even better overnight. That should do it, and if it does not, then try and remove the battery
Now the red led is switching on/off every few minutes while on charger.
Just leave it it will boot soon

I have opened the back cover, disconnected the battery and after few minutes i have put the phone on charging. Red light appeard but after a while it went off again so i have measured the voltage. It's going from around 3.08V (red led off) to about 3.25V (red led on) and after that point red led is off, the battery is discharging and the process starts again. What can I do?
when did you do this?
Did you follow the advice above? In all cases I have heard of this leaving the phone on charge for 24 hours has fixed it. Plug it in, leave it alone, come back tomorrow and try to turn it on. (Maybe even hole power and volume up together untill it vibrates 3 times and then turn on)
Yes, I was charging it more than 24h and it was the same. I think I need to charge the battery external.
give it a go, and if you have the battery off you may even try and change it.
Thats what i told you. You cannot leave it charging. Chargemon is a software which can only start idf ROM is ok.
Just takr out battery and buy a cheap chinese external charger. I know R has builtin battery but it is no problem at all.
You REALLY have to charge it with external charger or another Phone with working software

i was using ARHD 11 and bulletproof kernel..
the phone is fine yesterday and i could even play games with it..
but when i woke up to charge the phone i notice the phone is not responding and its off..
i tried charging it and phone Led is blinking..
the phone wont boot even i tried volume down + power
i tried to use the bright light method but it doesnt work too..
So right now how can i boot into booloader?
Sounds like a you drained your battery completely, I think HTC kernels are coded to turn off a 2-3%. It's not good practice to let you battery discharge all the way, try to plug it in around 15%. You will need to return your phone to stock and return it. Remember When FASTBOOT is ticked in your settings you phone is still awake when you power off. There for draining your battery. So when your untick fastboot.
