Hi All,
I've got a standard HTC branded kaiser.
Where I live I've got access to a 900/1800MHz GSM network (for backup) as well as 2 seperate UMTS networks on 2100 & 850MHz.
I'd really like the phone to use the networks in this order:
850MHz UMTS (Primary carrier)
2100MHz UMTS (Roaming agreement)
900/1800 GSM (Primary carrier)
Unfortunately I can't make it happen ....
* If the phone is set to auto (GSM/UMTS) and also auto band, it locks onto the 2100 UMTS and stays there. UMTS>GSM. This is the case even if I deselect the roaming carrier from network preferences.
* If I lock the phone band to GSM(900/1800)+UMTS(2100) it behaves the same as above.
* If I lock the phone band to GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850) it then will lock onto the correct 1st choice, but it won't fallback to GSM
So how can I make this work? Ideally I need a band option like GSM(900/1800)+UMTS(850/2100), but it just isn't gonna happen.
Even though this is a quad band GSM and triple band UMTS phone I'm forced to choose a combination that isn't optimal?
Any ideas?
Hi everybody!
Tired of waiting for ICS and played with SG (first generation) I decided to put some custom ROM on my phone. I'm in Canada and phone is/was p-925g.
So I decided to put ThiaiZO3D ROM. In instructions it said to put v21e first (I was on v20c). OK, flashed kdz (Greek one) and then ROM. Everything works, but...
I don't live in big city and noticed that it was hard to get 3G - I use my phone primary for internet. So I started digging and playing with v20c and v21e back and forth and here what I found:
using Hidden menu (3845#*925* for 20c and 3845#*920* for 21e) I forced modem to stay on one frequency - in Canada Rogers has WCDMA 850 (rural areas) and WCDMA 1900 (cities).
Now.
20c: WCDMA 850 - modem settings -> engineering mode: band_V and UARFCN 9662 and 9685 (which corresponds to band V - WCDMA 850)
WCDMA 1900 -modem settings -> engineering mode: band_II and UARFCN 1037 (which corresponds to band II - WCMDA 1900).
(UARFN calculator - http://www.radioraiders.com/umts-frequency.php)
And for 21e:
for both bands (WCDMA 850 and 1900) my phone saw only UARFCN 9662 and 9685. Which tells me that v21e doesn't have driver(?)-baseband for WCDMA 850...
Yes, for people in big cities it's not a big deal - there is always 1900 tower, but for people like me it doesn't work...
So now I'm back to 20c.
I hope I helped somebody
Does somebody know how to "enable" WCDMA 850 in v21e?
is it possible to change frequency settings so i can use this phone to get 3G and 4G in the US.
Thank in advance
Try this...

Did you try select WCDMA 1900 option into BAND SELECTION menu? To do this just dial *#197328640# and then select UMTS -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control -> Band Selection -> WCDMA 1900. But if does not show WCDMA 1900 on the list, you should really let it go...
Im using a Motorola Droid 4 in Mexico with 4.1. After dialing *#*#4636#*#* > Phone Info> menu button > Select Radio Band im only getting USA band. Then i checked with ##PROGRAM > 06 Test mode ,in "Band" im getting US Cellular (800 mhz). Here in Mexico, Telcel works with 850 Mhz for 3g/UMTS.
My question :¿Is there a way to change bands in this phone? I DO have 3g enabled, dont know if 800/850 Mhz bands are similar, but my signal strenght is always in -90/-100 dBm.
¿How can i select a different band in this smartphone?

In the phone dialer type *#*#4636#*#* > Device Information > Select More on the top right > Then hit Select radio band. Hopefully that works for you.

Mine says unsuccessful too. When you put a SIM card from a European carrier it should automatically use the bands that carrier uses

Unfortunately the AT&T s6 doesn't have support for WCDMA 900 however GSM 900 is supported. You would have to put your phone is GSM only mode in order to get that. For GSM only mode, in your dialer type *#*#4636#*#* > Device information > There should be a menu that says select preferred network type, select GSM only. This will be much slower than WCDMA but you will have a better signal.
