Can my Galaxy Tab be rooted?
I bought a Galaxy Tab in Korea after begging my wife that it would be a great gps replacement.
I got it and it blows nuts. It takes 10 minutes to find satellites and to fix onto a gps. I read on the forums for ways to remedy this, and it seems its possible.
Only thing is I need my Tab rooted.
Here are my specs:
Model: SHW-180W (wifi only)
Firmware Version: 2.3.4
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.TF23
So am I screwed, or good to root? How long would the wait be?
Help me before my wife kicks my ass! Thanks.

Maybe it is old news already but this is what I saw on a Dutch website and I'm happy: SGS I9000 gets update to Gingerbread!!!!!
You can find the news on Tweakers.net
Can anybody confirm?
Couldn't you use question marks (?) instead of exclamation marks (!) since your asking a question?
To answer you question, Samsung are sending mixed signals much like LG. Samsung are most likely looking at the cost/benefit of upgrading the Galaxy S. Obviously, the Galaxy S is more than capable of running Gingerbread.

Hi,
Anybody knows when Android 2.3 will be available for Samsung Galaxy?
Thanks.

Yes Samsung are going to release a successor due to how well it did.
They would be silly to leave it.
probs nothing till late Q2 I can image though
Mark Feb 14th in your diary to find out what.
Cheers for reply guys
Would you recommend still getting the device? I have been Googling the galaxy s 2 . it seeems that the specs will be much better (dual-core!!) So i probably won't be able to afford it. So would you still recommend herring the galaxy s? will it still have a good support (+1 year)
Or do you think i should just stick with my TG01 + SGT?
Is there a way to install Android 2.3 manually onto the Galaxy S without losing the functionlities? After some google'ing I found some info, but some functionalities are missing, like Wifi, GPS etc.

Hm, I'm less than convinced that the leaked Galaxy S 2 specs are real.
Get the nexus s unless you want better bluetooth and camera. Also gingerbread from source looks to be done in a month at least.

I just moved from my G1 to a galaxy s last month. Due to getting a 16gb one for £100.
With lagfix and over clocking it is the fastest phone I've used. ( I repair phones so have used a lot)
If you can get one at the right price its worth it. But if you want to wait for the next OS you will wait forever. Google seem to put updates out every other month. So there is always but this phone has version what ever.
If you like the hardware go for it. If you want Google updates get a nexus.

Back to the original question
Is there a good way to install Android to 2.3 to the current galaxy phones?
no, there is not.
I read that samsung announced a galaxy s successor recently.
I think they said they were to unveil it in WMC
Goto Developer section and install Darkys, its the biz... Android Version to 2.3.1

Its a 2.2.1 version based on JPY firmware.NOT a 2.3.
Why does it say 2.3.1 then?
Forget 2.3

I read in a forum that Samsung have stated that there will not be a 2.3.3 Update available for the Galaxy Tab P1010 (wifi only).
I do not know if that is true, the guys from the original thread have been given the same BS answers or a negative one from The Samsung Support from various locations.
Do any of you guys have any idea or have heard anything about this issue?
Thanks.
P.S. I am never buyng Samsung again.
Well the Wifi version is an inferior version of its 3G cousin dues to its lesser CPU/GPU. They are probably trying to get the update to work with those different parts.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/04/wifi-galaxy-tab-running-on-an-older-cpu-than-its-3g-siblings/
I guess that most of the P1010 users are familiar with that, but i do not think that is enough for Samsung to spare us this major upgrade.
It SHOULD not be. I agree with you.
I also posted over at the Galaxy Tab Forums for you as well.
Let us hope that Samsung sees the errors of its ways.
this news sucks
i bought the gt p1010 cause it is ideal for when it comes to school stuff
this news really saddens me

What do you think guys? Could samsung update our Note too? Or the incomplete and horrible battery optimized "official" jelly bean was the last update?. I think the last update will be Key Lime Pie, then the Cyannogen team will keep our phone alive for some time...
Sorry my bad english!
I guess there's no way we will see that update. I really hope im wrong, but we can thank god for having jellybean, knowing samsung...

And if we are lucky to see that update from Samsung on our Galaxy Note, then it will be after the Galaxy Note 3 is out.
I'm pretty sure on that.
Or it can be the same as with 4.0.3 and 4.0.4
We all know that 4.0.3 was like "beta" but 4.0.4 solved the issue. Let's home that our new 4.0.4 will be 4.2.1
I'm actually still trying to get a full working JB update on my phone (some laggs, etc... compared to a LG Optimus L9 which I got of my contract yesterday my Note with 4.1 seems to be working on Froyo... And the LG is on ****ing 4.0 on which my Note seemed to be on 1.0 compared to that speed... Why can't Samsung just do it right like LG? Actually trying to sell the LG though^^)
But I surely hope that we will se 4.2 on our Note. 5.0 Would be pretty amazing for Samsung... If the Note 1 gets 5.0 I will wait to buy a new phone. My plans were to buy the Note 3. But if my Note gets 5.0 I see no reason why... I love 16:10, 5.3", etc... 16:9 just sucks imho...
But if we think about it, it is already amazing that the S2 and even the old S1 (Advanced) got some Beans... Maybe it is not impossible for the Note to get at least one major update like 4.2... I'm really excited to see what Google will show us on the I/O about Android 5...
Oh, No. For God's sake, Not again.

Google are supporting handset makers with 4.2.1 in a way they haven't with previous upgrades, so chances are slightly better than normal. I wonder if this has anything to do with 4.2.1 crippling most ad-blockers...
I heard galaxy note will skip 4.2.1 and jumps to 4.2.2 lol jk! even the nexus10 struggles to 4.2.2

Which is why "officially" you'll probably not see 5.0 on the Note1. Two reasons, hardware probably can't keep up, and the main reason, it
would go against their bottom line. They sell hardware, and if they keep adding features, making the original better, faster stronger, why would anyone bother to purchase a new one? Same thing for a carrier locked version. Keep it at the old level long enough, and when people come into a store complaining, push them into a new one, extend the contract, and do that over and over again.

All i want to do is restore it to its original firmware which gsm arena says it was 4.4.2. how do i get this done? where can i find the right files? ive been searching forums and websites for weeks with people claiming this and that giving directions with people confirming it works but the next thread says not to. basically going in circles and seems like nobody really knows for sure if any method works or if a person can actually do anything with this phone besides enjoy the 20 at&t bloatware apps which cause the phone to overheat and burn images into the screen if in use for more then a few mins. i understand that root is needed for the bloatware removal and can do that easily enough once its back to factory condition. if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it otherwise this phone might find a new home in a dumpster.
