[Q] GMAIL not able to auto sync - Motorola Droid 3

my gmail will not auto sync any more. it only syncs when i do it manually. i have looked all over the settings, and i cannot find any way to make it sync automatically again. i don't know what happened. any thoughts?

Ok I had this same problem and never posted about the solution I found since it made me seem stupid...lol since you are having the same problem I will share my insight with you. The quick settings bar (I don't really know if that's the correct name) but the one with all the widgets in a row that you can turn on and off your wifi, gps, bluetooth, ect... there is a little sync icon there. That for me was turned off and my only problem. I don't know how it got turned off and every other setting I checked was set to sync, but as soon as I highlighted that little icon, gmail started syncing immediately... hope that helps!

Ok the widget is actually called power controls if that helps more. If you are like me and erase everything off your home screens when you get the phone, you might not even have it on one of them now. In case you don't have that widget anymore just long press on one of your home screens. Make sure you have a 1x4 space (basically and empty row) when you long press the screen a set of options will pop up... choose widgets and then scroll to power controls. Click on power controls and it will pop up on your home screen. Make sure the little sync icon is highlighted. That is what did it for me. Let me know if that works.

Short Cut Maps - Choose Maps or Latitude

When I make a short cut to maps and when I select it, I am always asked to choose between Latitude and Maps and every time I choose "use by default for this action before selecting maps. But each time I am prompted. This is annoying because I'm using all text icons so I dont want to use the actual official short cut for it. Please help!
That's quite odd; I just tried it on my phone and it worked as would be expected.
How are you creating the shortcut? Dragging-and-dropping the Maps application from the Apps Drawer to the homescreen? Or something else?
I had a similar problem with the phone dialer. After switching to CM6.1, it kept asking if I wanted to use the phone, or open contacts, and it wouldn't remember my selection.
I ended up deleting my existing shortcuts, and adding new ones, but it sounds like you've already tried that...

Searching for an on/off Data-Connection app...

I´m looking for an app which easily let me swtich between Data-Connection on/off.
I´ve tested APN on/off widget and one which is called Toggle Data.
Both start and stop the data-connection correctly, but a few seconds after stopping the connection starts again, think thisis a HD2 specific problem, because these apps work with other phones.....
Has anyone found an app which works with the HD2 LEO?
there is a widget pre-installed that's called power control, i use it to turn on/off wifi, data, gps, and display light. I don't know if every build has it.
The build that i use has no widget called power control.....
There's plenty of widgets for this on the Market. Just do a search on there for things like "power control" or "control widget" etc..
I use SwitchPro. It's a paid app, but only cheap. It's VERY configurable and I highly recommend it.
I have tested Switch Pro.
When I try to enable/disable data connection, nothing happens.....

Are you using Gingerbread? I only ask because Gingerbread doesn't play nicely with some apps, and I found a lot of the toggles didn't work with Switch Pro on Gingerbread. I'm back to Froyo now and they all work perfectly.
Yes I´m using gingerbread.
Ok i guess this is the problem.......
Hi,
I use data enabler, its free to download from the market. It does not allow to turn off/on data connection, but it takes you to mobile network menu and with widget placed on home screen you get fast accsses to it. Works on Gingerbread without problem.
I recommend Quick Settings free from the market, does the job nicely.
Check on Market 'CurveFish'
Go to market and type in 'curvefish' They have a bunch or widget toggle switches for free. The one you will be interested in is their 'APN OnOff' app.
*Edit* Tried it, your right, turns off and then back on again. Sorry.
try Dataswitch its a free app

Agree -...it´s free and works perfect for me! (Rafdroid 2.3)
Try widgetzoid, it can do that and much more, one of my must have apps!
Apndroid works best for me, especially combined with 3g watchdog, makes sure i can't go over my limit

[Q] Disappearing launcher problem + maps problem

Hi,
I'm using stock 2.3.3 w/ stock launcher, build GRI40. Occasionally, when I press home, I see my live wallpaper but no launcher. I either have to sit for a while until launcher reappears or reboot the phone (or kill the launcher app if System is in app history). Does anyone else have this problem?
Another problem I have is with Maps. Sometimes when searching, the soft keyboard doesn't show up but if I tap where the keys would be, it registers the press as if the kb is there.
And sometimes when going into the details for a point in the map and bringing up the context menu for more options, the screen darkens as if the dialog is there but no dialog is shown. Again, when I tap the screen, it registers the presses as if the dialog is there. I'm using HTC IME mod for N1. Killing the map app doesn't help, only a reboot seems to solve it.
Anyone else having these issues?
Are any of these apps installed on your SD? That would be the obvious fix...

No, all on the internal memory. This is stock Android so stock apps can't be moved to the sd card.
When you update from the Market, the update is placed in /data/app, not system/app, so it's possible your Maps is in data. I know that was a source of Maps problems for me, which I resolved by moving it back to system. If you're not rooted, you don't have that option through... Tricky... :-/

I know that I've been having problems with the new keyboard, wont show up, wont show key press popups, crashes completely. Maybe it's something I'm doing... I think it's something system wide that just effects the keyboard workings.
I don't know. but you're not the only one with key board issues. =)

I've started having a strange problem with HTC IME Mod. I type stuff and it never draws the suggestions although the suggestions are actually there - moving the Dpad left/right shows the text being replaced in the input box with the suggestion.
This is starting to look like a GB issue tbh, I never had any of these problems in Froyo. All my stuff is stock.

I saw this problem once, about 24 hours after installing 2.3.3. I was also experiencing severe battery drain. The battery monitor showed "Android OS" using most the battery. I found references to setting the Wi-Fi sleep policy to "Never" to correct this. Sure enough, the battery life has been fine and "Android OS" no longer uses much battery.
It may be coincidental, but since doing this, I haven't had the empty home screen problem and my phone has been up for over a week. You might give this a try if you haven't already and see if it helps.

[Q] Weather app, always showing UK as location

Hi, has anyone had trouble with the weather app on the sensationXL,
where ever i go , the location on the home sceen weather app always states my location as the United Kingdom, and NOT the Town?
anyone got any ideas?
Mine is working correctly. Just opened it and for a moment it showed the weather for 'Lincoln' and then reloaded the weather for 'Mablethorpe'. Quite often the weather on the 'News and Weather' app shows 'Sorry Weather Currently Unavailable' but a manual refresh usually cures that.
My old HD Mini did have problems with the location in Mablethorpe, so I had to add it in manually and turn off the 'Current Location' feature, but the SensationXL has so far been faultless.
Refreshed it manually , and its set to refresth 'hourly' , then also tried trying powering down! When it restarts, its back to 'United Kingdom' as location??? besides that very pleased with Sensation XL
Do you know, after reading that I tried to get the HTC Sense page to load (which it still doesn't). One page suggested clearing the cache for HTC Hub and HTC Sense. I tried this, and then noticed that my Weather had set itself to United Kingdom. Aaarrggh! I tried various things which didn't seem to have any effect at all, but the final steps did seem to work.
Remove Weather/Clock widget.
Switch WiFi off.
Check that the settings in Location is set to use WiFi and GPS.
Turn the 'phone off (not restart).
Remove battery.
Wait 2 minutes.
Replace battery.
Switch 'phone on.
Wait 2 minutes.
Add Clock/Weather to screen.
Tick Use Current Location.
If weather location (still) incorrect:
Tap on weather.
Tap on 'more details online'. (This showed the weather for my 'Home' location even though the weather on the home screen was incorrect? I may have set this up earlier, but I don't remember doing so.)
Tap on 'Switch Location'.
Tap 'Add Location'.
Add a location (I used one near to me).
View that location.
Tap on 'Switch Location'.
Go back to your 'Home' location.
View that location.
Exit out of that and back to the weather widget.
Voila! Weather correct!
Don't touch any thing!
Hope it works for you too.
Well! After an hour, it started going back to United Kingdom.
Turning WiFi off seems to help, but it is still very temperamental, often swapping back and forth within a few seconds.
I have to agree with olyoh6696 that it must be something to do with HTC servers and not the 'phone itself.
For the time being I've installed the World Weather widget by Satok that I had on my Sony Arc. That seems stable, though no full screen animations.
Running a XL port, and recently noticed this problem when updating whether
Maybe htc accuweather servers are busy these few weeks with everyone so keen on checking the weather for snow!

united kingdom in weathet widget
Anybody solved this. It's driving me nuts. I've tried several widgets which work properly but I'd like to use HTC one. Shame HTC don't show any interest.
I think its more to do with server problems.
I downloaded several widgets that use AccuWeather, and they all have the same issue.
I don't think its up to HTC to do anything about it.
Contact AccuWeather, and let them know.

had this for about 3 hours the day before yesterday. The only thing i had installed that day was chrome beta.
Uninstalled that, re-installed locations, cleared the data and cache for anything with a name that suggested it could have anything to do with Laputa, weather or any sort of location service, and then rebooted.
been fine ever since. I don't know what helped, but something did.
However, i did notice that when i selected the correct town manually, it was showing the same as the 'United Kingdom' was, so it seems like it was getting the right weather, but it couldn't resolve the correct name.
I suspect that Accuweather have updated their database again, and the htc locations stuff is using an old version. maybe clearing the data on everything and rebooting forced it to update?
I've had to install Fancy Widgets to 'fix' this. It will only work if the Geocoder is set to use GeoNames. If it is set to use Google or Weather Provider it will fail in a similar way to the HTC weather. HTC weather sometimes does work correctly, then sometimes not. Mostly, it seems not.
I wish I could find a simple fix for this, as I really like the HTC clock and weather animations. Perhaps it will be fixed in the ICS update?
Is it easy to uninstall 'Locations'?

My HTC weather and clock widget seems to work fine most of the time. I guess I am one of the few lucky ones. We will wait to see what the ICS update brings.
Do you mean Locations, the app? Have you rooted your phone?
If you have just use any root exploring app (Es File Explorer, Root Explorer etc.) and go to /system/app locate the 'Location.apk' and delete it. You may want to delete Location widget apk too?
Once your phone has rebooted you should be fine. It won't be there anymore.
That's if you mean the Location app

ICS won't fix it. It's at the data provider end rather than being on the phone.
Weather issue fixed
Hi
My weather application stopped updatind after I had unlocked the bootloader.
So I relocked bootloader and flashed stock rom. Weather updates is working all right now.
just installed ICS, weather stuck on United Kingdom.... Anybody any ideas, no amount of force closing and clearing data fixes it.
Turn on GPS and refresh, or wifi.

Location problems?

My phone can not determine my location over WiFi or mobile internet. It does not work with the HTC weather widget on blinkfeed (just constantly shows no weather data available and annoys the **** out of me) Google maps or Google news and weather. All settings have been configured the only thing I haven't tried is GPS.
Im really annoyed as location apps were great on my s3 and my last HTC phone the hd2.
Anyone suggest what might be causing the problem? I wouldnt mind manually typing my location in but that doesn't alter (or at least I can not find a way to) the blinkfeed weather widget
Any help appreciated, I have had a good look through this forum so sorry if this is duplicated elsewhere.

I did have a problem in the first 24 hours of use - no location showing. Eventually I checked all locations settings were <ON> and then ran maps. For the first time I saw the GPS icon flashing and I did get a location.
Hope that helps....
Yeah a hard reset sorted it. Don't know what happened the first time, all settings were exactly the same as the second time I set it up, weird.

I had the same problem. Made sure location services were all checked and then just soft resetted and it finally appeared.
Disable the Fast Boot option in Settings. Then reboot.

I've tried all above, but no success.
It worked for 10+ days, then last 4 days I only get "MY LOCATION" or "CURRENT LOCATION" in BF or Weather app.
It was very good first ten days, and extremly precise. I'm still on .13 version.
Anybody still having this issue or similar??
It's a known Google problem with about 6 threads here discussing the problem. Google is working on a fix.

My Blinkfeed only has United States option
Im in the UK and I am pretty sure my One is an import. It only has United States in the Blinkfeed drop down so I get no UK topics and services.
Does anyone know a solution?
Much appreciation
