hey people, I'm just 12 and I'm not as experienced. I have modaco 1.5.1 hero ROM, a 2gb sd with 32mb swap and 512 ext4 the weird thing is that after 162 apps my g1 says can't install app. is this because I need more space on my sd, or it can't handle 162 apps. oh and does anyone know the swap settings for swapper and some advice or anything to make this modaco run even faster and smoother. thank yall!!
162 Apps is a little extreme.. You've quite possibly filled the card.. consider deleting some that you don't use?

Why is it that in this thread you said that you were 14?

Dear all experts,
hope i m not waiting everyone's time. it seems that not many have asked this question, so maybe i ask. pls help answer or revert me to a link which can explain this.
Question: whats the difference btw the diff extensions? i know from wiki that ext4 is the successor of ext3 and ext3 is the successor of ext2. so shld we all convert our ext to ext4 for better features?
THANKS in advance!!!
They are all versions of the ext filesystem, evolved over time.
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_file_system
Your question is moot because going forward (2.2+) apps will be installable on the FAT filesystem so no additional partitioning is needed.
Isn't ext2 supposed to superior to FAT?

Except it is up to the developer to enable that, only one app so far that i own has apps2sd enabled. and FAT32 does not work with root apps, so EXT is still very relevant.
So my question is whats the swap for? And can I choose a higher allocation when partitioning my sd card? will i get speed improvement? in terms of phone usage?
Currently Running:
T-mobile G1 rooted
Superfly TCBY FroYo v1.1 for D/S, Release v1.1
DANGER SPL
UPDATED RADIO
8GB PNY Mini SD Card
I suggest to not use swap. In most cases it will slow down your phone. If you need a bit more memory, using compcache could be a way to go.

thanks for the advice but my questions are not answered =[ but can you ellaborate on compache though?

Swap and compcache are virtual memory, i.e. memory that is used like ram, but really it's on disk. The kernel is 'swapping' in and out parts of the memory to disk and back to memory. The same is for compcache, but here a compressed ram-disk is used., so you will gain a bit of memory, but always related with slowing down your phone.

Hi guys. My uncle gifted me this device with CM Mod 3 month ago. Now this device lags as nokia 5800 .
I have only 72 mb of 256 free RAM space .. I cant play Trial Extreme 3 and so on.... I run Opera and Vk , and my device cant open any other applicantion.
Processor overclocked on 1Mhgz and i use JiT ( setuped in cm settings)
It surely needs a swap partition. Read other topics how to set such a partition on the sd card.
Sory but i dont understand, i need to swap a partition for more Ram ? Or better to setup CM 10 with android 4.2 ?
Swap partition is a partition you create on your sd card. It supports your phone with extra memory and its capacity. You can use mini mod by fufu to setup swap, ext partitions.
If you want to set up Cm 10 on your milestone, you can't make it without ext. The swap partition is required too.
Cm10 will work faster or slower? I can make 1gb swap , i have 32gb flash, cuz i only want very fast phone
Definitely it is cm7. Much faster and smoother. The thing is, Milestone is kind of outdated phone in terms of hardware (some say it has pretty good cpu, but has to be overclocked anyway), thus you cannot expect miracles. I would sick to cm 7.
CM7 is your choise

And every update that the apps are making make the M1 slower
Not use cm10 on this, try cm9, cm10 is really slow
Hello guys..
I've already search about this in XSP's part but not (yet) found one, so i'm decided to ask
Sorry if this question so noob :fingers-crossed:
Okay then, is there (possibility) mod/tweak/method to use SWAP partition for increase RAM in our beloved device??
Hmm, in my opinion this method can't use easily because the most important thing with it is kernel. Correct me if i'm wrong :fingers-crossed:
Why i want use it? Okay, there some method to solve this like use RAM Manager PRO, deodex ROM and debloated apps, or use Custom ROM which have minimal or basic android packages. Yea it help in some case, BUT I need more. Sorry for this b*ll**** reason
Thanks
this may help you >> [GUIDE] [FAT32] [EXT4] [SWAP] [2.3+] How to Partition your Android MicroSD Card
Swapper 2 can also be used to setup a swap FILE as swap, but didn't work in SP with stock kernel. Looks like our stock kernel doesn't have support for swap..
I am also looing for RAM swapp. anybody can help?
