Thank you. I finally got this to work as far as I have the Super User app installed on the phone. I thought if I had this then the phone is def rooted yet when I try to delete ATT bloat ware it still won't let me.
Is this only because its still running the factory 2.2 froyo. Will the full SU benefits be there one I flash whatever ROM he wants on Monday ?
And what is the best rom for the cap ? I have the Eris running a GB rom that I love but I'm sure this phone is different
go to the market, download titanium backup. use that to uninstall, unwanted bloat...you cannot use the native package installer/uninstaller to remove system apps.

Tried using Astro and E Strongs both and niether worked and they are non native. I'll give TBU a try.
Tbu is the most popular app users use to remove apps. And it worked for me do I hope it can work for you

stable and quick
stick with froyo based roms. especially if you have to ask
besides that,,, research research.
there is no best.

My personal preference... Firefly.
The Gingerbread ROMs are still Beta.
ok i have to agree... firefly...
Thanks all. I don't think it's going to matter since when I reboot into recovery I do not have the option to "flash zip from sd card". I got it rooted, installed rom manager and flashed clockwork but to no avail. This all seemed to go so smoothly when I did our eris phones.
I have his "wireless tether" working and was able to delete a ton of ATT bloatware but I think he's going to stuck with the stock ATT 2.2 ota rom.

As you have already been told in this thread you need to make sure you have modified your 3e recovery to allow cwm to work.

Check out TRusello's signature "3e recovery fix" also after you boot into recovery from rom manager you have to "reinstall packages" twice, then you will see all the options...

you need to reinstall packages in recovery twice.
also you need the to fix 3e recovery before you can flash the cwm .zip.
look @ the stickies in the general section. there is a thread on working around 3e recovery. it contains a link to a batch script that'll fix it
there is also odin(tethered) that can replace the kernel with one that has cwm baked in
and sgs kernel flasher in the market that can do the same from the phone as long as it's rooted.

Ok, I downloaded the VZW/LG update on 8/4/11, but once downloaded it reboots into recovery.. I have Clockworkmod Recovery installed. I don't know where the downloaded file is to install it. I assume if I had stock recovery that it would have automatically installed. Can anyone help?
After reboot from CWM, the update screen comes up and says Update Failed or Incomplete.
Also just a note, the update isn't Gingerbread, it is bug fixes and a couple system app updates.

It wouldn't b gingerbread, would it?
Thanks!

Anyone wondering about the OTA please read this!
If you have CWM installed, you won't be able to take the OTA.
For now, I'd suggest staying away from it until I get a chance to look it over first.
Also, if you're running my decrapified ROM, installing the OTA would bootloop your device since decrapified is deodexed and the OTA would be odexed.
In the next day or so (whenever I get access to the OTA zip file), I'll disassemble it and see what changes it contains (like if it has a new recovery, or new kernel, or changes the board configuration) I'll post back here to let y'all know.
UPDATE
It appears that the update is safe to install for those running the revo stock (not decrapified) ROM.
It makes changes to quite a lot-- new boot.img, new LTE RIL, new CDMA RIL, new LTE baseband ROM, changes to the recovery system to bring it in line with normal Android (still not very 'normal', but normal as in "now contains an installrecovery.sh that android can use"), and a bunch of new ODEX files.
Let me stress this and make it perfectly clear: this update will NOT work if you're running decrapified ROM.
In the next day or so, I'll make an updated decrapified ROM (see? I was waiting for a good reason to make an update ) that will include the OTA in it.
Until then, relax and keep hitting that "ignore" button

There are several things that I do not like about the Decrapified ROM
1. The 3 buttons on the bottom (Phone / App Drawer / Browser) sometimes vanish. Only way to fix it is to reboot
2. When you dock the phone into the car mount, the Navigation doesn't do anything. It would be nice to launch your own GPS app or the Google Navigation app. There are other activities that do nothing.
Everything is is great. Love the Google Integration and Love the missing Verizon Crapware on it (VZ Navigator, VZ Music, etc)
If ur using adw go into adw theme settings and reapply your them and the bottom buttons will deappear

Just flash it via revotoolkit...
The baseband image doesn't appear to change much at all, it's only a minor change it appears...
Mine wouldn't take any deferral time greater than 24 hours....and out of the blue it started about 10 hours after I deferred for 24....
Mine rebooted to Clockwork, I selected reboot, it came back up, displayed a page noting the failure, and everything appears to be working fine -- 30 minutes and counting. We'll see if it tries again...

Yeah, I PM'd you on that.. revo tool kit not working, download file only 36k, even attempted to download the .tar (via Windows7) described in the output in the program and the countdown just keeps looping. There may be something wrong with the files or the file host...
disregard.. just attempted download in Dolphin Browser on my phone and it is downloading the 6.73mb file recovery-stock.tar from 199.167.134.110/private/iomonster/files/revo-cwm/recovery-stock.tar.gz
So i should be able to follow same instructions I used to manually install cwm to install this, correct? Or I could just wait for the new decrap ROM, but I am very impatient.. lol
I am giving up!!!!!
ok.. getting really mad now. I successfully and manually flashed the stock recovery image and verified that with revo toolkit. So applied the update and it boots into stock recovery but not even half way through the arrow becomes an " ! " and reboots and says update failed or incomplete. So now I will put back CWM and wait for the next version of decrap.

I'm running Decrap1.1 and couldn't stop the attempted upgrade, since mine wouldn't respond to any attempts to defer. So, I went poking around under the hood. Just on a hunch, I used Titatium Backup to freeze a program called Verizon Package Installer, thinking that might interupt any attempt to actually update. The update loader ran and failed, gave me a warning, and I haven't seen it again since. I also am having ZERO problems with the phone. It's like it went away and isn't coming back.
Do you think my package loader freeze might do that?
Hashcode has modified Koush's fully functional bootstrap so it can be booted from power-off using BP tools!
http://hash-of-codes.blogspot.com/p/android-downloads.html
Nice work!
So do we just uninstall koush's bootstrap and then install this one
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
I just installed over top the existing one. Already had it installed. It worked perfect!
I'm able to get into the full version of CWM using BP tools.
Seeing as how I have been using Koush's bootstrap, I am assuming I need only remove the 'original' bootstrap and use this one in it's place?
P.S. This is what we needed. It works! Wow. You should perhaps remove the prior bootstrap before installing this new one. To avoid contusion. This new one says 'tweaked'
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
Yeah, it makes sense to uninstall the original version. Otherwise you'll have two installed (with duplicate names and icons) and kinda makes it confusing.
This is a massive help - I've been fiddling with the 5.6.890 ROM, but its painful as everytime I get an unbootable system, it needs a reflash to get to recovery - that means being near a PC every time I want to try a tweak.
Doing a nandroid backup now...
Nandroid backup and restore successful with this new install.
Apprehensive to restore from older backups now even though this should be the same version of Koush's since it's his core app.
Thoughts?

We have yet another new recovery coming shortly, with cm7 support. Cm7 is booted, but don't expect anyone to see it soon. It needs a good week or 2 before it becoms beta. Radio, wifi, etc don't work yet. The new recovery will have a way to swap between cm7(for now, probably all roms later) and back to stock system very easily.

I do have a small problem with this...
Downloaded, installed, clicked on "Bootstrap Recovery" and granted Superuser Permissions. Then, my phone rebooted. And since then, every time it came up, it stayed alive just up to the message where Superuser grants permission, and a new reboot took place.
I am, however, able to access the new recovery via BP tools.
Managed to get back to an operable state by removing the apk via adb. Still, I wonder how that strange scenario could happen and what I could do against it?
Notes:
The phone is running the "old" firmware, Superuser 3.0 and the newest su that came via the updating tool. Did some unbloating as well, some time ago.
CWM always fails!
Everytime I go into recovery from bp tools. I click restore it always ends up saying "error in restoring system!". No matter which back up i click.
Do you think that there is any plan of updating the "Market" version of the Droid 3 Recovery Bootstrap ? Or is this something else ?
what does BP tools provide?
noob question, what does this do for us that Koush's bootstrap doesn't? I've never heard of BP tools.
Basically this version allows you to access CWR when your bootlooping. Koush's bootstrap is supposed to kick over to recovery after the first loop, but if it doesn't your basically SOL and the only way to recover your system is to flash the sbf. What hashcode has done is modify it so you can also enter recovery by holding M while powering it on, and getting the boot options. You can then scroll down to BP Tools, and it will boot over to CWR. Thus if you bootloop you still have an option to get to CWR and your backups.
This is the same as the version on the market with tweak of the the extra boot optioni. ROM manager works fine with hashcodes tweaked version just like it did with Koush's version

it may not support your old backups... try doing a new backup, and restoring it... This tends to happen when recoveries first come out and new ones take its place..
Just did another full backup and restore with this version. No problems at all.

well, the battery life was pretty bad on the thing and was pissed that the 'extended battery' was only 250mAh more then the stock. on top of that, unless the phone was charging in 'ac mode', it would lose charge if you were trying to use it while in 'usb mode' charging. also i had severe reception issues with it(kept going back & forth from 3g to 4g & occasionally lost signal all together). and finally, i wanted the extra cash for something.
either way though i qualify for another upgrade this march anyway... pretty sure though that i'm just going to hold off until the quad's are out.

If you look in one of the .901 threads you can find a link to.download the update. Flash it in bootstrap. After that you can change to any of the .901 compatible ROMs. I don't think the ROMs update the radio.

yeah the how to's in the dev section aren't exactly user friendly. basically though, i was not able to get CWM to work on it's own. you have to download that "Safestrap" .apk and install it. after doing so, it will install recovery itself. once that's done, you reboot your phone and press the MENU key once prompted, then you'll go into recovery.

I may write out a few how to's with all the fixes.
I agree, out of all the phones/tabs I've rooted/ROM'd the how to's in the Bionic Dev section are a bit...lacking.
All the info is there, but it takes you 5 hours to figure it out b/c the steps, dummy guides, fixes are spread out all over the place between here and a few other forums.
Safestrap is really nice though.

Yeah, your right. I don't know exactly what safestrap is (assuming its similar to bootstrap which I use) and when I tried to research it I got confused and just decided to stick with bionic bootstrap since I can't find a reason why its needed even though everyone talks about it.
I wouldn't use rom manager, just do everything in one of the two recoveries. Here's a breakdown of the recoveries for the Bionic
Bionic Safestrap
-Allows two system partitions
-One system is non-safe system where your main stock system resides. You can make and restore backups in this partition but you cannot install custom roms.
-The other system is safe system. This is the partion that lets you install roms and what not.
-You can toggle between the two systems from within safestrap recovery. It will automatically backup the current system before switching over.
-Safestrap has a nice feature that prevents bricks. On restart if Safestrap is installed there is a boot menu that pops up. You can hit the menu button to get into recovery from there. This comes in handy if you are having a bootloop. Just pull battery, restart phone and hit menu key when safestrap animation appears.
-One downside is that webtop doesn't work in safe system and the rom may run a tad bit slower in safe system partition
Bionic Bootstrap
-This is the riskier one
-This is more like regular clockwork recovery. You boot intro recovery from the bootstrap app.
-You can make backups, install roms etc in bootstrap recovery
-If you enter a bootloop while using bootstrap recovery, your phone is pretty much bricked. Because of the encrypted bootloader there is not a way to get back into recovery if using bootstrap. You will have to use sbf/fxz from a pc computer to unbrick your phone.
*You can use bootstrap to install a custom rom as your main system, and then install safestrap after if you want. But fully know what your are doing before you do this. If you don't use webtop, I recommend safestrap recovery for everything. Here is something I wrote over at Droidforums
-I have been testing roms out in safestrap to make sure they install and load up correctly
-I then toggle back to my main system in safestrap
-I then uninstall safestrap and install bootstrap.
-Then I boot into bootstrap recovery through that app
-Make a backup in bootstrap (always have a backup of your stock unmodified system)
-Wipe data and cach
-Install the Rom that I first tested in safestrap
-After Rom loads up and your are done flashing you can install safestrap again if you want. This way you will have a rom as your safe system and you can have another rom as your non-safe system. Webtop will work with roms on your main system.

Thanks I too was a little fuzzy on Safestrap. Now I know.
No problem. Here is a good link on safestrap http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8794-bionic-safestrap-bootstrap-recovery-12142011/page__fromsearch__1

I would stay away from the nexus from what I have been reading. Getting some bad reviews.
I have a Tbolt and the Bionic and I like the Bionic better. The only thing the Bionic does not do is be on the phone and surf at the same time on 3G, but I never do that...
Now that I rooted the Bionic I like it even better, but just staying on the stock rom and stock radio I have no issues. Great phone...

It's not possible to talk and surf at the same time on Verizon's 3g network. I don't believe that is a feature most people need or would even use, but it sounds good on the commercials.

I am a bionic owner and love my phone, with that said you need to have your head examined I've been trying to get a nexus for weeks, lol. Just don't wanna pay $600 for it. If I could trade my bionic plus $200 or so I would be all over it!!!!!

The Nexus isn't worth it. I've tested it out and wasn't too impressed. One big thing I didn't like about it was that it only had 3 buttons compared to the normal 4 (home, back, search, menu). That might not be as big of deal with newer users who aren't as used to certain things, but I've been with Android for almost 3 years so the typical 4 buttons is a must as its something I became used to.
As far or the specs, its nothing to get excited about when they have much better coming out this spring and summer.
As far as ice cream sandwich, the bionic is getting it and will have Google's help with getting it set up for our phones.

I can't flash it yet because my computer is in the repair shop and I never do anything risky with my phones unless my computer is nearby

Well Im very new at modding Droid X, but I have an important question...
Is the hdmi fully working?
Or is there any rom which make it work as it should?
I mean something like a mirror.
Thanks!
Downloading Now. I just hope it's for the rooted .621 Non-Milestone hack. The Milestone hack (for root) is .604.

Update:
First I tried it without gapps. Everything booted fine, but there was no market nor would accounts/ sync let me add Google account.
So, I rebooted into recovery, which worked fine, and flashed gapps.
This time on boot, I actually got the Droid X welcome screen, was able to put in Google info, and market initiator ran and updated.
After that everything worked fine.
Tested Bluetooth, Messages, Gps and Calls. Didn't get chance to try Wifi yet, but I'm sure it works since everything-else does.
The only thing that Would be better is an updated Superuser. The 1 included will NOT update SU Binary. I think it's the old edify binary. Even by updating Superuser in the market WON'T help. Although an easy fix is to get RootUninstaller and uninstall Rom Superuser, then download new 1 from the market and install.
Keep up the hard work. Nice Rom.
Finally, does this works for any other gb kernel besides .621?
Anybody please tell us!
Nope, but maybe yes

Nope, but I may have a bad download as I forgot to check the Md5 sum before I flashed. Install was aborted. I can't try again right now because I have another phone to flash and have to go to bed early tonight.
And thank your for the review I've been waiting for a review like that I've created a couple roms and no one has have gave me so much input

No prob Kiladar. I think if someone is going to comment on someones work, they should at least review it and be as informative as possible. It makes it easier
on the devs to look at potential probs/fixes too.
Oh yea, I also got to looking into your system/app folder in your zip. The vending.apk is Not in there, which i would say is why I had to flash the gapps. Just wanted you to know.
Also there is no "boot.img" (which is kernel right?) in the new dwnload.
Right, I will update OP saying to flash gapps rather then say not needed

wifi works just fine with it, and I agree bout the updated superuser since you cant uninstall the one you have with it which means you also cant update to the new superuser because they are different volumes but over all nice ROM.:good:

I had it working on mine but my .605 was the .621/.605 deodexed hacked version cause I was on the .621 before I did the work around on the magic 5 route, originally I did the .604 work around but it should work on the .605 stock rooted, but then again I was also running the kernel for the .621 sooooo if the kernel is the key for running it maybe you cant.
Try another download, maybe you did get a bad DL

I tried this again but, I think the real problem is with my microSD card. I have subsequently tried to flash other roms and have had other aborts as well. I know that the md5's on those checked out. I was able to flash a cm9 based rom and got it set up just fine. All this from the same card on the same phone. Sooo I am attempting to format the card just in case I have bad sectors or something.
Luckily my DX is no longer activated and just keeps me from killing my SGS3 with flashes.:silly:

I hear ya, I had the same prob with sd card so i formatted mine as well, problem was still there though. whenever i tried to install a rom from sd card via rom manager the problem was i kept getting the message saying waiting for sd cart to mount then it would say error bla bla bla sending log file to cwm ect ect ect.... i dont know exactally how i fixed that, all i know is i installed another rom, like cm7 or cm9 for instance and after that whenever i went to back up rom it worked fine ever since.... maybe something flashes over correcting the sd card problem when you install a rom... I know rom manager checks to verify the marker on sd card and thats what your problem is I believe.
Try doing this, try installing a rom cm7/cm9 without making a backup (i know you could lose everything if it fails but its the only way i know that fixed mine) after you have installed cm7/9 go to rom manager and hit the Backup Current Rom it should reboot you to cwm recovery and make an auto backup, if it does this without throwing up the waiting for sd card to mount error stuff and it runs the backup program and then reboots you it should fix your sd card problems.....
Review this rom
this is by far a ROM with the least lag by far i tried liquid ICS and plenty others don't know what it is but the lag is really minimal runs really smooth i only have this for like 3 hours but will update soon
pls hit thanks if i helped
