Hello everyone, this is my first post on XDA
I am trying to root my girlfriend's galaxy S and having few difficulties:
I'm using SuperOneClick and I connected my device into the PC, i pressed "root"
after it wrote "daemon started successfully" it went "OK" and then "waiting for device"... and that's it now its not responding and i dont know if i should unplug the device ot retry or whatever...
Before i tried using One click lag fix but it prompt "item could not be found" and said "root was successful" but it wasnt so "successful" according to titanium backup.
device: galaxy s GT-i9000
firmware version: 2.2
kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]_ANRD_SRV2 #1
build version number: froyo.JIJPA.
Thank you in advance.

Upgrade ur firmware to JPY....
Use cf root instead of one click
after i installed CF-Root-XW_OXX_JV1-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1_NO-CWM.zip via odin as PDA the device just keeps restarting.
it goes till the homepage and then reboots again showing the company's screen.
after installation the device booted and then it started rebooting over and over, i unplugged the device from the pc and it keeps rebooting
what can i do?

Go get your firmware from the stock thread in general or one of Ramad's pre rooted firmwares. Follow the instructions to flash. You just need to reflash, it'll work out just fine. Then worry about kernels.
Speed mod kernel is what worked best for me in FroYo to lag fix and root, I recommend it highly.

now it seems the device is bricked.
i cant access download and recovery mode and got a screen of a phone and a pc and yellow triangle between them.
is there anything i can do?
edit:
i got into download mode what can i do now? im really nervous, where can i find the instructions to flush.
im on download mode right now, can i turn of the device without bricking it?
This happened to me once, don't panic. Take out your battery, plug in your phone to the charger and use the 3 button combo to get into download. You can repair from this screen. The phone ! Pc is only a soft brick.

First, thanks for your help dude,
I thought the phone is dead, but i said lets try one more time before i go to fix it somewhere.
Now im in download mode, can i flash rom with a tar file i have, its a stock rom of the company i bought it from, i need other file then .tar or the .tar is enough?
can i plug it to the charger while in download mode?
No problem buddy.
If the tar is a full rom, flash it as a PDA with no other files. Make sure repartition is not checked.
You can plug it in, but there is no over charge protection so make sure it doesn't overheat for too long. You do need the battery to be over 65% though, to flash safely.other than that, flash normally. Tell me if you need instructions on flashing.

this is how i flash:
get my device to download mode.
open odin v1.7, open the tar file as PDA
connect the device to the usb, auto reboot and F.reset time and the only option checked and then i press "start".
Is there anything else i have to do?
OK i installed JVQ stock rom and its working
I thank you very much my friend you helped me alot.
now i wanna install semphore kernel, how i do it via odin?
Make sure to kill all kies processes in the task manager before starting. Make sure you have the usb drivers installed. Also start and get odin ready before plugging in your phone in download mode.
That's about it, you should be fine.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
well i flashed the kernel, but now i cant download apps from the market, it just get stuck on "starting download"...
i can browse the web but cant download....
any ideas?
Did you do a factory reset and clear your cache? That's usually where my errors came from. Beyond that I'm not sure.

Hey guys,
While on my way to the super root patch ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751934&highlight=stock ), I first am trying to install JH3. I got Odin3 v1.00, put the .tar in the PDA box, and clicked start. Here's the log:

Pull the battery, get back into download mode with the key combo and start again. Odin is finicky and sometimes takes more than one try.

Well the log says "removed" so somehow your USB connection got interrupted... which means your phone is going to be in Phone/Computer screen hell.
Close Odin, unplug your phone, pull out your battery/sim/sdcard.
Open Odin, put in your battery, attach USB, and hold both volume buttons without applying power to get back into download mode to try again
If that doesn't work:
Unplug the phone from everything, hold both buttons and power... keep holding power till the screen turns off, continue holding power- the screen will turn off a second time, at that point release power and continue holding the volume buttons and you *should* get the download screen
Thanks for the quick replies! Unfortunately, Odin doesn't seem to see that it's connected. I don't see anything in the ID:COM boxes. I changed USB ports, nothing. Should I uninstall and reinstall the drivers?

Odin won't see it unless the phone is powered up in download mode, if you've gotten it to download mode and Odin still can't see it then yeah... your drivers might be fubar
Odin tends to work best for me if I get everything set up in Odin just short of pressing the start button before connecting the phone to the computer and putting it in download mode. Maybe it's superstition, but it seems to help me avoid some of those timeout issues.

Ok I apologize if this isnt where this belongs, but i have yet to find an answer i understand. Is odin a program that i can download to a desk top computer and run? I keep seeing open odin and do this , open odin and plug in phone. its always sounds like an easy step, but for someone who doesnt know how to even get odin, it has prevented me from doing alot of things with my phone. I see "needs odin' an i move on to the next thread I know its a firmware to help flash roms, but that is about it please educate a supernoob lol
I understand what you mean, I just got my captivate yesterday and spent a six+ hours figuring that stuff out. I think I might try to write up the steps I went throigh to help other Android noobs like me. I'm coming from an iphone so this is all new for me. The good news: I figured it all out finally and so can you. I now have JH3 installed, and the super root mod, overclocked and evertything. My quadrant score went from stock of around 900 something to 2160 after all the tweaks I applied. I cant wait to see how it performs with 2.2!
Ok, so basically heres what i figured out; to use Odin, you'll need a firmware image, and Odin will be included. I recommend upgrading to JH3 and installing SuperRoot. It makes everything pretty painless. SuperRoot installs lagfix, root, and much much more all at once.
Search for the SuperRoot thread (IIRC). In there is a link to instructions on how to restore your phone to stock. Look for the thread on JH3 and get that image. Post 6 in that thread has instructions, and the restore to stock thread has more of an explanation. Then, you can do whatever else you need. HTH.
Ill get on my pc in a minute a put the links in here.

Ok, I was wrong about the title: it's SuperRooterExtreme. I apologize for not being able to post links for you.
Code:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751934
Follow the instructions on the next two links to flash to JH3. The fist link is for JH2, but the directions still work. Just download the JH3 firmware.
Code:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751518
Code:

This page has all the files you need:
Code:
samsung-firmwares.com/i897.htm
You need the firmware file, the PIT file, and Odin. The links for all of that is on the above page. The PIT file and Odin are under the section called "Flash Tools."
Once you've restored, you can follow the instructions for the first link I gave (SuperRooterExtreme). Or, you can do whatever else you want. This is just what I figured out yesterday.
I know what it's like to not know what Odin is! Took me forever to figure it out, I downloaded all kinds of stupid crap before I got it right.
The odin I downloaded from the samsung firmware website is only 167kb and an unknown file that won't open what's that about

Hi,
I managed to brick my Samsung Galaxy S I9000M.
Was locked on Virgin network (Canada) and I was trying to root the phone and then unlock it.
But something didn;t work properly (or I made a mistake) and now the phone keeps rebooting. I can go into Download mode but nothing more.
This is what I did:
1) I installed Odin 1.85
2) I started ODIN as admin, I pressed on PDA and then I selected a zip folder called
"CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVO-v3.2-CWM3RFS"
3) This is what ODIN was showing:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..

<ID:0/003> RES OK !!
<ID:0/003> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/003> Removed!!
5) So after waiting 5-6 minutes (in this time the phone was rebooting up to the Samsung logo) I turned off the phone and I have tried to start the device. But is not starting anymore, it keeps rebooing.
Now I don't know what to do to fix it.I know that I made a big mistake, I was not supposed to do something without knowing what I'm doing...But now it's too late, I have to fix it.
Note: The phone was running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
if its in boot loop then look like it's only softwoer brick.
so if you can get in to download mode by 3 bouten combination greate you can try to reflash (I will try all so to redownloading the files)
if not than you must find a JIG or some one with a JIG to get in to download mode and reflash.
The version of CF-ROOT you selected is not compatible with the version of GB (UGKG3?) that was on your phone.
If your phone had UGKG3 installed, there are very few rooted kernels available for it.

Yes, I can go into download mode.
How can I reflash the phone ? Which kernel should I use ?
Sorry but I'm new in this.
If you give me some links that will be great.
I don't want to aggravate the situation .
If the OP has/had UGKG3 installed, I have found that to be the oddest ROM I have used to date on my phone.
It does a lot of things differently.
I made another post on here where I attached a basic rooted kernel for the UGKG3 ROM. Let me go find it and link to it.
Again, this is assuming it was UGKG3. Ma Bell has only released one GB ROM for the GT-i9000m, so I think it's a safe bet that's what the OP was running on his Virgin branded phone.
EDIT: Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21655532&postcount=492
This will give you a basic rooted kernel, no CWM or anything else, just root.
You'll also need to download Superuser from the Market.
Thank you.
Now how should I install that kernel?
I suppose that after I reflash the phone it will start normally and then I can go to the Android market and install Superuser from there?
Is there a link with instructions (Step by Step guide)?
Sorry, but I dont have too much experience with this.
Thanks a lot!
I found this in the General thread, it has links and step-by-step instructions:

My phone is fine now. It's rooted and I managed to unlock it using Galaxy_S Unlock + SuperBox from the market.
Thanks a lot .
This is what my phone shows now:
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9000UGKG3
Kernel version: [email protected]#2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.GKG3
Great, glad you got your phone working again.
I have been trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for a week now with no success.
First off, it has a lot of problems connecting when I am in download mode. It has no problem at all when the phone is fully booted up, but Odin has a really hard time seeing it while the phone is in download mode. I have to restart the phone several times into download mode and pull the cable, etc until I can finally get Odin to see it.
Once I get Odin to finally see the phone in download mode I loaded the PIT and the PDA files from the tutorial for DarkyROM_10.2_Resurrection.
But when I hit start is just stops here:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
And will not go any further.
I originally rooted with one click, but I am afraid I might have messed that up. After I did the one click I was messing around with the phone and formatted the internal memory from the download screen. I even went back into one click to try to unroot, but it gives me an error message.
Did I mess up my phone? Is there any way to fix this?
have you ever succeeded in flashing with odin or first time?
have you closed all kies programs from task manager? (do you even have it installed?)
if you have win7, have you opened odin with right click menu->as administrator?
what ver. of odin do you use?
maybe the cable is faulty?
did you connect it directly to the comp or by some hub? (better connect directly)
guy7685,
No, I have never flashed before. This is the first time.
I tried running Odin as system admin, made no difference.
I do not have Kies installed.
I'm pretty sure the cable is good, it works fine for everything else including data transfer on my other phone, just not in download mode for this phone.
I've tried a few different versions. v1.30, v1.83, v1.85
When I tried in in v1.83 & v1.85 I get a fail, then this message:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Any thoughts?
If you have another computer you can try it on, do that otherwise I think you need to install the drivers again. You can search for them or you can install them via kies. Once you have kies installed go to tools and install drivers.
Remember that before you open Odin you go through task manager to close all kies processes.
Good luck

Everything is ok and all thred completed (succesd 1 / failed 0)
After this, my galaxy tries to reboot but it only shows the flashing battery and will not reboot itself.

My rooted T-mobile Note did not like the OTA update it received today (hung at the samsung logo). I reflashed the rooted UVLG3 firmware image, following the instructions at http://androidlegend.com/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-note-sgh-t879/. This worked, and I'm ignoring the OTA update for now.
I don't need root anymore, i didn't really use it anyways, I would like to get back to stock.
How do i get back to the stock/factory image? From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837907, I see items B (T879-STOCK RECOVERY IMAGE) and D (T879-STOCK BOOT IMAGE). In ODIN, do I need to load one or both of these in one the sections (Bootloader, PDA, Phone, CSC, or UMS) and would i then hit the "Start" button?
Thanks for any help.
Just go to Samfirmware.com and download the tar file for the T879. Put it in the PDA section and start.

Powered off the phone, removed battery, connected USB cable to computer and phone, inserted battery, press power/vol-up/vol-down then hit vol-up to get into download mode
Started ODIN3 v3.07 (the box read 0:[COM4], message window read "<ID:0/004> Added!!")

I had to flash TWRP temporarily and wipe the phones emmc and flash the stock ROM again above instruction and worked. I guess before doing anything you should wipe/factory reset your phone first before flashing the stock ROM, this I can't test but just based on logical explanation.
My solution for being stuck on the Samsung logo
I know the last post was done a year earlier, but I thought I'd share this information I learned yesterday. After numerous flashing attempts My Note was stuck on the samsung logo.
I had soft bricked my Note by not clearing out the data on my phone. The previous post here gave me a clue and not being really good at this, I wasn't able to install and get TWRP to play nice with my non-working stock rom image. But I was still able to get the the Samsung Recovery and Download modes.
The working solution (borrowed from a post by andersbot on another thread) was:
1. Go to Recovery mode. Do a "clear cache" and next a "wipe data". Then reboot.
2. Go to Download mode and then connect to a XP PC and start up Odin. Be sure to use the latest Samsung USB drivers.
3. Flash with Odin using ther stock firmware downloaded from sammobile.com. Only tick the boxes for f.reset time and autoreboot (Odin default). Click PDA and load the downloaded file renamed with .tar at the end instead of .tar.md 5.
I dont know if this was the easiest way to clear the data on my SGH-T879, but it worked, and my Note started up correctly with the stock rom.
Hello, I've had my Galaxy Note GT-N7000 for about a year now. I've never rooted it before.
This morning I was browsing my phone and it just shut off and went to the "Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000" boot screen.
I saw on other forms instructions on how to hard reset the N7000 (Remove battery, put back in, then hold Volume up, Power and Home button, then it gives you a menu to choose from)
When I do that it doesn't give me a menu screen, It just goes to the boot screen I described above, or it goes to the little green android man with the rotating object in him, then back to the (GT-N7000) boot screen a few minutes later.
I have a macbook, so I can't use the odin program. (Nor would I know how)
I don't mind wiping all the data from my phone and restarting from the beginning.
I have all the stuff I need (phone numbers) stored on my google account. And I can redownload my main apps I liked.
Any ideas?
Update
I have a windows computer I can use, so I want to use Odin to put the normal firmware back on my phone.
I am having a hard time finding the USA firmware for the GT-N7000. I have been looking all around but cannot seem to find it.
Can anybody help me out?
Check in Samfirmware.com.
No USA firmwares

Thank you very much I'll go ahead and use the UK one since it will boot in English then.
Any tips on using Odin? Or things I should do or avoid? I don't want to brick my phone by accident.
Use the rom in pda. Don't tick anything else other than default.
You sir, are awesome.

Thank you! That was exactly what I needed to know!
I'm currently downloading the ROM, I will update after I've used ODIN.
Also my phone is at 100% battery in preparation since people said to make sure it was charged before flashing.
Slight Problem...
I'm using Odin v1.85 following the instructions above and it has gotten stuck on "NAND Write Start!" for the past 15 minutes.
It doesn't seem like it is going to do anything. What should I do?
Still? Wait for some more time. Then kill kies processes and run odin as administrator. Boot into download mode again. And try.
I'm windows inept

I waited about 15 more minutes then held the power button to turn it off. So now it's off and charging again.
These may be really really dumb questions, but:
1) how do i kill kies processes?
2) And how do I run as administrator?
Sorry, I'm sorta windows inept since I've been using a macbook for the past 5 years.
Open task manager and check anything related to kies. Also make sure samsung usb drivers are properly installed. If not or in doubt, download and install kies first. Then plug the phone in and with for the drivers to install.
On the phone and check what is the message on screen, if it's a firmware recovery screen the try connecting with kies recovery option. If still stuck on logo, kill all kies process. Right click on odin and run as administrator. The put phone on download and flash.
Trying it soon
I didn't have kies installed, so I am installing it right now. So once that is installed I will try it out and let you know if it works :fingers-crossed:
Updating right now
I just started updating at 10:28
I downloaded Kies, and the screen wasn't in emergency recovery, so I killed all kies processes and then i put my phone into download mode and started ODIN v1.85 as an administrator and plugged in my phone.
By 10:29 it hit <ID:0/004> NAND Write Start!!
It's 10:45 and it's still on NAND Write Start!!

There must be problem with emmc. Use the pit file method to install correctly. Flash the pit file first with re-partition ticked and others un-ticked. See if it goes successful. Then flash your PDA with re-partition un-ticked and reboot and reset ticked.
Is there any certain pit file thread that you would point me towards?
I been looking and I found a couple, but they all vary a little and I really really don't want to brick my phone.
Use the pit file from Dr ketans flashing guide

I went to Dr. Ketan's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 and downloaded Q1_20110914_16GB.pit
Right now I'm flashing the pit file first with re-partition ticked and others un-ticked.
What should I do if it gets stuck at <ID:0/005> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!?
It's been at that step for about 7 minutes now, and I just want to know what I should do in case it doesn't move past that.

I've been flashing it for about 20 minutes now, using the pit file with only re-partition ticked. It hast't moved past <ID:0/005> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Should i be worried, or does re-partitioning with the pit file take a long time?
Was I supposed to have the PDA file in there too while flashing, or just the pit file? I really hope I didn't f this up...
I don't want a really expensive paper weight
DEAD
It was sitting there flashing with the pit file and my friend threw a ball at me and it hit the usb cable and it unplugged my phone from the computer. Then the computer wouldn't recognize my device anymore. I tried to turn my device back into download mode to restart the process but it won't even turn on or show that it is charging when plugged in.
I guess this is the end
Unless anybody out there is a miracle worker.
