Hey guys,
While on my way to the super root patch ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751934&highlight=stock ), I first am trying to install JH3. I got Odin3 v1.00, put the .tar in the PDA box, and clicked start. Here's the log:

It hasn't changed in about 10 minutes. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Pull the battery, get back into download mode with the key combo and start again. Odin is finicky and sometimes takes more than one try.

Well the log says "removed" so somehow your USB connection got interrupted... which means your phone is going to be in Phone/Computer screen hell.
Close Odin, unplug your phone, pull out your battery/sim/sdcard.
Open Odin, put in your battery, attach USB, and hold both volume buttons without applying power to get back into download mode to try again
If that doesn't work:
Unplug the phone from everything, hold both buttons and power... keep holding power till the screen turns off, continue holding power- the screen will turn off a second time, at that point release power and continue holding the volume buttons and you *should* get the download screen
Thanks for the quick replies! Unfortunately, Odin doesn't seem to see that it's connected. I don't see anything in the ID:COM boxes. I changed USB ports, nothing. Should I uninstall and reinstall the drivers?

Odin won't see it unless the phone is powered up in download mode, if you've gotten it to download mode and Odin still can't see it then yeah... your drivers might be fubar
Odin tends to work best for me if I get everything set up in Odin just short of pressing the start button before connecting the phone to the computer and putting it in download mode. Maybe it's superstition, but it seems to help me avoid some of those timeout issues.

I'm curious..what happens when you remove and replace battery, hold power up and hit power...wall o text?
Got it! Everything installed, super root added. Thanks for all your help!
Ok I apologize if this isnt where this belongs, but i have yet to find an answer i understand. Is odin a program that i can download to a desk top computer and run? I keep seeing open odin and do this , open odin and plug in phone. its always sounds like an easy step, but for someone who doesnt know how to even get odin, it has prevented me from doing alot of things with my phone. I see "needs odin' an i move on to the next thread I know its a firmware to help flash roms, but that is about it please educate a supernoob lol
I understand what you mean, I just got my captivate yesterday and spent a six+ hours figuring that stuff out. I think I might try to write up the steps I went throigh to help other Android noobs like me. I'm coming from an iphone so this is all new for me. The good news: I figured it all out finally and so can you. I now have JH3 installed, and the super root mod, overclocked and evertything. My quadrant score went from stock of around 900 something to 2160 after all the tweaks I applied. I cant wait to see how it performs with 2.2!
Ok, so basically heres what i figured out; to use Odin, you'll need a firmware image, and Odin will be included. I recommend upgrading to JH3 and installing SuperRoot. It makes everything pretty painless. SuperRoot installs lagfix, root, and much much more all at once.
Search for the SuperRoot thread (IIRC). In there is a link to instructions on how to restore your phone to stock. Look for the thread on JH3 and get that image. Post 6 in that thread has instructions, and the restore to stock thread has more of an explanation. Then, you can do whatever else you need. HTH.
Ill get on my pc in a minute a put the links in here.

Ok, I was wrong about the title: it's SuperRooterExtreme. I apologize for not being able to post links for you.
Code:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751934
Follow the instructions on the next two links to flash to JH3. The fist link is for JH2, but the directions still work. Just download the JH3 firmware.

Code:

This page has all the files you need:
Code:
samsung-firmwares.com/i897.htm
You need the firmware file, the PIT file, and Odin. The links for all of that is on the above page. The PIT file and Odin are under the section called "Flash Tools."
Once you've restored, you can follow the instructions for the first link I gave (SuperRooterExtreme). Or, you can do whatever else you want. This is just what I figured out yesterday.
I know what it's like to not know what Odin is! Took me forever to figure it out, I downloaded all kinds of stupid crap before I got it right.
The odin I downloaded from the samsung firmware website is only 167kb and an unknown file that won't open what's that about

Hi, n00b poster here...
Got a "force stop" as soon as the phone boots up. Tried the software reset, didnt work, so now trying to do the flash in download mode. Got all the files (.pit and the .tar file) got OdinV3 and the drivers are installed to detect the phone.
However, when I click the start button OdinV3 causes a fatal error and crashes. I have tried this on multiple computers and it does the same thing. HELP PLEASE!
EDIT: I am using the i9000DTJF3 file found on these forums as its the original OPTUS firmware.
You can give Heimdall (my flashing tool) a try if you want. I suspended the public alpha for the moment because it bricked a phone however if nothing else is working you might as well give it a shot.
Send me a PM if you would like the download link.
Before you do that however, have you tried removing the battery for a couple of minutes then retrying? I'm not actually sure how that makes any sense but quite a few people have reported it as helping.

all fixed, tried another firmware off another site and it worked ok...back to normal thank f**k
I'm pretty sure my phone isn't bricked.
Ok, this is what I've done...
I'm on official Froyo for UK, unbranded handset (i think jpo/jpp firmware).
I tried to install Voodoo Lagfix (stable, released today) by Odin.
I started Odin up, put PDA as the Voodoo file, put my phone into download mode, connected the usb, waited for odin to detect it and then clicked start.

That's what Odin said, so I presumed it failed.
The screen was black and not doing anything so I unplugged it and removed the battery. When I put in battery and tried to start up phone, I get a logo of a flip phone on the left, with a line dash to a yellow triangle with black explanation mark, and then another dashed line to a computer.
Can I have a set of instructions on how to continue please!
which ROM did you install?
make sure the TAR is not corrupted
even if it failed, you can flash it again
the only way to find out if it works is to unplug and reboot it
there is always the JIG option if you don't have the 3 button modes

It's not a ROM, I tried to put on Voodoo Lagfix 5 (stable) onto my stock firmware from Kies (JPP/JPO).
Shall I try to reflash the Lagfix? I think I need to flash a firmware, can someone please tell me, starting to get a little stressed haha.
BTW, Download Mode is working.
I would imagine you are going to have to flash stock firmware to it, you can try flashing it again or perhaps a different kernel
got it working now guys
just reflashed it and it worked
Hello everyone, this is my first post on XDA
I am trying to root my girlfriend's galaxy S and having few difficulties:
I'm using SuperOneClick and I connected my device into the PC, i pressed "root"
after it wrote "daemon started successfully" it went "OK" and then "waiting for device"... and that's it now its not responding and i dont know if i should unplug the device ot retry or whatever...
Before i tried using One click lag fix but it prompt "item could not be found" and said "root was successful" but it wasnt so "successful" according to titanium backup.
device: galaxy s GT-i9000
firmware version: 2.2
kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]_ANRD_SRV2 #1

Thank you in advance.

it goes till the homepage and then reboots again showing the company's screen.
after installation the device booted and then it started rebooting over and over, i unplugged the device from the pc and it keeps rebooting

Go get your firmware from the stock thread in general or one of Ramad's pre rooted firmwares. Follow the instructions to flash. You just need to reflash, it'll work out just fine. Then worry about kernels.
Speed mod kernel is what worked best for me in FroYo to lag fix and root, I recommend it highly.

now it seems the device is bricked.
i cant access download and recovery mode and got a screen of a phone and a pc and yellow triangle between them.
is there anything i can do?
edit:
i got into download mode what can i do now? im really nervous, where can i find the instructions to flush.
im on download mode right now, can i turn of the device without bricking it?
This happened to me once, don't panic. Take out your battery, plug in your phone to the charger and use the 3 button combo to get into download. You can repair from this screen. The phone ! Pc is only a soft brick.

First, thanks for your help dude,
I thought the phone is dead, but i said lets try one more time before i go to fix it somewhere.
Now im in download mode, can i flash rom with a tar file i have, its a stock rom of the company i bought it from, i need other file then .tar or the .tar is enough?
can i plug it to the charger while in download mode?
No problem buddy.
If the tar is a full rom, flash it as a PDA with no other files. Make sure repartition is not checked.
You can plug it in, but there is no over charge protection so make sure it doesn't overheat for too long. You do need the battery to be over 65% though, to flash safely.other than that, flash normally. Tell me if you need instructions on flashing.

this is how i flash:
get my device to download mode.
open odin v1.7, open the tar file as PDA
connect the device to the usb, auto reboot and F.reset time and the only option checked and then i press "start".
Is there anything else i have to do?
OK i installed JVQ stock rom and its working
I thank you very much my friend you helped me alot.
now i wanna install semphore kernel, how i do it via odin?
Make sure to kill all kies processes in the task manager before starting. Make sure you have the usb drivers installed. Also start and get odin ready before plugging in your phone in download mode.
That's about it, you should be fine.

well i flashed the kernel, but now i cant download apps from the market, it just get stuck on "starting download"...

Did you do a factory reset and clear your cache? That's usually where my errors came from. Beyond that I'm not sure.

Instructions:
•Power down your tablet
•Then power up tablet by holding the power button and volume down (landscape view it will be the closest to the power button)
•Wait till you see the Samsung Galaxy logo and release power button
•You should be seeing a screen matching the one below (2 options recovery and ODIN)
•Click the volume up button (farthest from power in landscape) this will set you tablet in ODIN mode...
•Once your TAB is in ODIN (Downloading) Mode, connect it to your PC, you should see the COM port with a number in Yellow.
•Put the tar you downloaded (see link below) in the PDA slot. MAKE SURE THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE CHECKED IS AUTO REBOOT and F.RESET TIME
•Hit Start
•It'll auto reboot once it's done.
Congrats, you are now back to stock.

I can verify that krylon360's files/method works. After breaking my recovery I found his posts and used his method to return to stock. I would actually suggest to ALL LTE owners to download those files and store somewhere safe if you intend to continue trying new ROMs/Kernels. After restoring the factory ROM I went on to Liquid Speed with an OC of 1.4.
Wouldn't have been possible without krylon360.
Just used this to set my Gtab back to stock. Worked like a charm.
Warning, don't be a dummy like me and forget to backup your titanium backup file, and factory cwr nand to your computer.
Gaurantee I won't forget to do that again. lol
This method worked for me as well. Got some kinds of rings on my screen after only having the tab for 2 weeks so had to revert to stock before shipping it back to sammysong.
Thanks! Files saved on laptop if ever needed again.

You might want to check out this thread regarding ODIN for mac. If you try it remember to have KIES for MAC installed first. That should give you the proper drivers... at least it does on Windows:

Good Luck.
I had bricked my Verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE. I used the above method and revived it back to life.
Many thanks to ifiweresolucky for this fine fix. It saved me $700 for a new tablet!!
Thank you for this.. love you guys.
Would a kind person please, please dump a PIT file for the SCH-i905? If you can figure out which partition contains the PIT file, you should be able to dump it with something like this:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 of=/sdcard/sch_i905.pit bs=4096
You might be able to view partitions by type with something like the following command:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
My APP partition is 256MB and the EG01 system.bin is 312MB so I can not flash back to stock with Odin, fastboot or nvflash. No adb, no recovery, Heimdall does not work.

well i have used the file to go back to stock lots of times, but this time i cant get on vzw network also get cannot open sales code on boot up any idea whats up thanks in advance

Has anyone seen a stock ICS image for the VZW 10.1. This HC image is great for going back to original but it might be nice to ODIN a clean ICS.
Granted it only takes about 20 for HC to update to ICS but once or twice it took a few days to begin the update process.

I had to put it down for a few days. I am at an impasse. Everything looks good, but it never reboots. I let it stay overnight, but woke up with a blank scree. When I manually reboot, it is stuck on the Samsung logo, which is the same symptom that initially brought me here.
Thank you. Your files and instructions worked perfectly.
To add to your instructions... not that there is anyone left... after restoring to factory default, to activate without an active SIM card:
1. Press top left corner of screen
2. Press top right corner of screen
3. Press bottom left corner of screen
4. Press bottom right corner of screen
5. Press volume button closest to the power button in landscape
My rooted T-mobile Note did not like the OTA update it received today (hung at the samsung logo). I reflashed the rooted UVLG3 firmware image, following the instructions at http://androidlegend.com/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-note-sgh-t879/. This worked, and I'm ignoring the OTA update for now.
I don't need root anymore, i didn't really use it anyways, I would like to get back to stock.
How do i get back to the stock/factory image? From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837907, I see items B (T879-STOCK RECOVERY IMAGE) and D (T879-STOCK BOOT IMAGE). In ODIN, do I need to load one or both of these in one the sections (Bootloader, PDA, Phone, CSC, or UMS) and would i then hit the "Start" button?
Thanks for any help.
Just go to Samfirmware.com and download the tar file for the T879. Put it in the PDA section and start.

Thanks Charlie, that worked! In case any other newbie like me wants to know what to do, this is what i did:
Downloaded/installed Samsung Kies
Downloaded Odin 3.07 from www __ android __ gs
From samfirmware __ com, i searched for T879 and downloaded the file for "SGH-T879 USA (T-Mobile) 2013 January Android 4.0.4 T879UVMA1 T879TMBMA1". The ZIP file "T879UVMA1_T879TMBMA1_TMB.zip" has a large file called "HOME_T879UVMA1_CL892179_REV02_user_mid_ship.tar.md5", which I renamed to .tar
Powered off the phone, removed battery, connected USB cable to computer and phone, inserted battery, press power/vol-up/vol-down then hit vol-up to get into download mode
Started ODIN3 v3.07 (the box read 0:[COM4], message window read "<ID:0/004> Added!!")
Pressed PDA button, loaded the TAR file
Pressed START
Took about 4 minutes, then the green status bar finished, box above says RESET!, phone resets.

The phone automatically reset and started the boot sequence, took a few minutes to load updates, and everything was groovy again. When i connect the phone to Samsung Kies on my computer, it now reads "This is the latest firmware" (used to read something like "we don't what firmware is loaded").
How can i rooting the phone if i want to keep stock rom?
Do i have to do same as regular root?
Thank you.

Message window:

I did the same but the phone still hangs at the Samsung logo after I get the TMo Galaxy Note logo.
I had CyanogenMod on it with TWRP and tried to do a restore (bad idea) that's when it bricked.
I got a USB jig to get me to download mode so Odin would see it. All was installed just great but still the logo..
Just remember to flash the flash counter zip if u need to send it over to repairs with Samsung cus if they know ur phone is rooted they won't fix it cus rooting a device voids ur warranty... I flashcounter.zip everything I flash a rom... I usually flash that file last...

I had to flash TWRP temporarily and wipe the phones emmc and flash the stock ROM again above instruction and worked. I guess before doing anything you should wipe/factory reset your phone first before flashing the stock ROM, this I can't test but just based on logical explanation.
My solution for being stuck on the Samsung logo
I know the last post was done a year earlier, but I thought I'd share this information I learned yesterday. After numerous flashing attempts My Note was stuck on the samsung logo.
I had soft bricked my Note by not clearing out the data on my phone. The previous post here gave me a clue and not being really good at this, I wasn't able to install and get TWRP to play nice with my non-working stock rom image. But I was still able to get the the Samsung Recovery and Download modes.
The working solution (borrowed from a post by andersbot on another thread) was:
1. Go to Recovery mode. Do a "clear cache" and next a "wipe data". Then reboot.
2. Go to Download mode and then connect to a XP PC and start up Odin. Be sure to use the latest Samsung USB drivers.
3. Flash with Odin using ther stock firmware downloaded from sammobile.com. Only tick the boxes for f.reset time and autoreboot (Odin default). Click PDA and load the downloaded file renamed with .tar at the end instead of .tar.md 5.
I dont know if this was the easiest way to clear the data on my SGH-T879, but it worked, and my Note started up correctly with the stock rom.
