Hi all,
Firstly, thank you all for providing so many answers to my many noob-questions, even before me asking them! This forum is great.
So, my setup is visible as the first attachment to this post.
Previously, I have had lots of problems with the battery only lasting 5 hours, but I have finally come across a good config of kernel, ROM and apps that have boosted that considerably. Also, I keep WiFi turned off, apps bckground syncing off, GPS off and accounting syncing off. DarkyROM rules!
And, my running services are really few (see second attachment), and I'm getting some really good battery times now (see third and fourth attachment)
And, here is my question to the forum:
I have realised that a) when the battery drops below 50%, AND b) the display is set to time-out at 15 seconds, THEN the phone shuts off, and I can see that the battery seems to have died. Please see the third attachment to this post! Does anyone have an idea what is going on, and how to resolve it?
Thanks so much for any constructive answers!
Mark
Did you try wiping battery stats in recovery mode? You could even try recalibrating. Do a search for "calibrate battery" in XDA forums.
i had the random shut down issue, after i contacted the support center they thought it was a battery app. Do you have any battery monitor apps? If so, uninstall all of them.
For me that didnt solve anything, i had to get a replacement phone. If you are still within your 1 year, i would highly suggest doing the same. Now that i got this new phone my battery life has been amazing. With the original unit it used to be tops 12 hours, now i can get 1.5 days!

Yeah, I tried all that, same problem
What would be the next step from here?
Thanks

sadly, my phone is more than a year
Try these things :
# Replace Battery
OR
# Resoft , reset battery,recalibrate
Try battery calibration or charge it 100% and then flash the rom and see. If this is one not helping you. I think you have to change the battery.
Try Juwe's Smart Edition !

Not the best idea!
This is happening on Juwe's ROM v5.2 JVQ.
I had a freeze after exiting a game called Paradise Island (I get that quite often!) and then I had to press the power key for 9 seconds for the phone to reboot itself.
And, NO, that charging on the graph isn't an actual charging, the battery just recalibrates itself over time. Strange!

what experience do you have with that ROM and would you be willing to post a screen dump of your battery page?

Hello
I can't use my Galaxy S more than 3 hours, after that the battery is on 0 %. I've tried some of the guides here, but nothing helps. My phone is running Darky's Rom 9.1 Extreme Edition. I would be thankful if some of you could help, so i can use my phone without it should be plugged in the charger!
- Mosawer
I also got some issues with darky's 9.1. Did you tried 9.2 version? it solved most of my battery problems. but still i can't wipe battery status from the CWM.
No but i would definitely try it. I've also had Darky's rom 8.0, and the battery life wasn't the best on that also. To be honest, my phone has never survived a whole day without i should plug in the charger. I've also tried the battery wipe, but it didnt work, actually it just got worse. Before i tried the battery wipe, it could hold 7-10 hours, but now i cant use it more than 4 hours.
you could calibrate your battery, as flashing ROMs all the time can confuse the battery and make it think it is at a different % than it actually is.. try this
1. Run the device down until it turns itself off.
2. Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again.
3. Remove the battery for 10 seconds.
4. Replace the battery, but leave the device off.
5. Charge the device until full and then for another hour.
6. Boot into recovery and reset battery stats (or, go to console and type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin”)
7. Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off.
8. Charge to full while off.
9. Restart and use as normal.
when you have done that you could try a battery saving app i use juice defender its free, but there is a paid version with more features. what this does is everytime the phone sleeps (screen off) it disables all connections like 3g wifi data mode etc but still allows you to receive calls and texts..
also get your self a good task killer, and place a icon on the home screen to kill running apps quick, i do this everytime i put my phone in my pocket, making sure nothing is eating my battery apart from me when im using it.
try them methods and post back with your results in say 2days time ?? good luck
EDIT: another thing to do is use automatic brightness, this adjust the brightness of the screen depending on the ambience of where you are. e.g if its sunny the screen dims down, if its dark it brightens up... great for saving battery.
Thanks man, i will try calibrating my battery this way, but dont think i'm gonna download the task killer og battery saver, but i'll sure post my result after i've tried it !
well there is samsungs own built in task manager its good, you will be suprised what apps open up on their own and start using your connections and running processes without you even knowing. all that drains battery. but just see how you go
Well it didnt work dude, the battery life still sucks as much as before
- Anyone else who wants to help me?
Maybe u need a new battery...

If you flash a rom and the battery no longer behaves as it should and hundreds of other posts report exactly the same problem . Then is it not the rom you flashed to blame .
jje
Yeah i know, but it was after i've flashed the problem occured. I tried calibrating my battery plenty times without luck.
- I really dont know what it is, and its very frustrating!!

Hey... first off, what sort of things are you doing with your phone? Casual browsing, youtube, streaming? Wifi, GPS on?
If the battery is not defective, there must be some program instance that is draining that battery.
Wifi, GPS and that sort of things are off. I'm browsing a little bit, and then just use my apps and games, and of course i write some sms's. and hear music.
Thats the thing i'm doing on my phone.
Btw: When i unplug my phone from the charger, it immidately drops 2-4 %.

Is the extreme drain also a darky problem?
Read posts on darky section if you have problems likewise read posts on xxx rom section if you have that rom makes sense .

Haha okay
But i would be pleased if someone have a solution for this problem!
Nothing have worked, but i finally remember how the battery drain started! It was when i decided to calibrate my battery. After i did it, the extreme battery drain started! So it has nothing to do with Darky's rom or something else, i is the battery calibratings problem. Anybody knows how to fix it???
Hi folks.
Sorry if this is a redundant question or thread, I have used the search feature and am not getting the results I want. Furthermore I have a 2 year old and 9 month old hanging on my legs here and just need an answer so again apologies if this is redundant.
I have had my Captivate for about 5 days now. I rooted it and installed Serendipity 5.3 ROM. Today I noticed my battery went from 100% to 5% in 4 hours. Is this normal?
I got home and updated Serendipity to 5.4 and then 5.5 but not sure if that will fix the battery issue. The day before I ran the battery all day 10 hours and I was at 35% which to me was normal as my iPhone 4 had the same performance. But 100-5% in 4 hours seems a bit strange.
Any help would be appreciated sorry for the long post I need to get back to my kids.
Thanks!
4 hours for almost 100% battery usage is not normal.
check your wifi setting, gps setting first.
Sounds to me like your battery needs a calibration. It's generally a good idea to re-calibrate your battery after flashing. I generally get 20hrs on my Captivate with Serendipity 5.2 with average usage.
Check out this thread.

Now that one kid is asleep and the other on her way....what is the optimal wi-fi setting for best battery life and the same for gps?
Also, I looked at that thread and I am in process of trying it out integrasaurus.
This is my first time with an Android phone, I came from an iPhone 4 jailbroken so I am an Android virgin and 5 days old.
I also want to say I am sorry about starting a thread if this topic was hit on already. I have been around forums a long time and I know how frustrating it is when noobs do these things so I thought I'd offer my sincerest apologies for doing what I would get mad at too.
usually after you flash a new rom, the gps is set to on. turn it off if you are not using it;
go to settings->wireless and network->wi-fi settings, then click menu to bring up the advanced->in the wi-fi sleep policy->make sure select "when screen turns off";
go to settings->applications->samsung apps->make sure it is "off"

I got the wi-fi taken care of though thanks for that.
It was strange today though, I plugged the phone in to wall ac and it took forever (5hours) to charge from 5% to 40% and then drained in less than an hour back to 5%.
Its charging now and has been on my usb port for 2 hours and its up to 72% from 4%.
That was also a confusing mystery.
Hey guys, just want to say thanks again. I'm still working on calibrating batt but I after reading some more in the forums (kids finally both in bed and OUT) I discovered that I had 2 task killers installed and that these apps are battery killers (at least in some opinions).
I uninstalled them and charging seems to be moving faster than before. I will let you know how things go.
Thanks again!
I am running Serendipity 5.5 and my battery typically lasts between 26-30 hours with normal use. I don't use any task killers, but if you have your task killers set to be too aggressive I'm sure that would drain the battery pretty fast. I'd suggest just ditching them completely though, as I get over a day's battery without trying to manage all of that.
Also, check if ur gallery has the sensor bug. U can find this out under battery usage using the SPARE PARTS app.

yup, I deleted them already. I believe that was the cause of the sudden change in life, as I didnt have many problems before them.
After my battery cal I have been running the phone on and off normal use for over an hour. Battery is now at 95%, started at 100%.
I see improvements already, but will hold off saying its fixed completely until I can give it a day or two of testing.

sometimes the thumnails get corrupt which eats battery while trying to load and need to be "refreshed" a simple way to do this is in the app SGS TOOLS run the script "clean_thumb_db.txt" this should fix gallery issues.
Thanks for this info. This will be something I will keep an eye on for sure. Phone is still above 90% after over 2 hours. Hoping the calibration and deletion of task killers did the trick.

Charge battery 100% then some... Power off phone and let charge longer... Boot into Clockwork and reset battery stats.... Run the phone a few charges and you should be gold.... Under normal/light use I can get 1.5 days out of my battery...
Also check your wireless settings. Try setting them to turn off wireless when the screen is off. That was a huge battery drain for me.
Thanks to all here for the help and thoughts.
So last night I
1. Got rid of task killers
2. Updated Serendipity from 5.3 to 5.5
3. Adjusted wireless settings
4. Calibrated battery
I finished all this at 8:15pm CST and the phone has been unplugged since then, with moderate use between 8:15 and 10:15pm. It is now 7am CST and the phone is at 63% power which is a huge improvement from yesterday.
I am convinced it was the task killers that had the most drain on the battery.
I will give it one or two more days and see how performance is then and let you know.
You guys rock!
Back on Serendipity 4.3, while OC/UVing I could get about 25-28 hours with normal use, texting throughout the day, occasional calls.
Now that I'm on 5.5, I am getting about 28-32 hours, still OC/UVing.
Also, I use advanced task manager, and it doesn't kill my battery at all. Any more than other apps at least.
Glad everything is working out for you iDroidd!
..Now back to flashing lol.

Hi, I would like to know the best way to measure my battery health. For about a month my battery starts to drain fast. I know my phone is already old and battery don't handle the same charge, but I have recharged the phone all night long and in ten minutes using wifi to just update some apps the battery just gone.
It is just ridiculous as I don't use any different configuration.
To be more specific, my phone configurations are:
- Cyanogenmod 7.2 by vo-1 (31/06/2012) deodexed by me;
- Firekernel Unnoficial OC (22/07/2012), CPU governor: smartassv2, max 787, min 245;
- Adrenaline Engine 4.2b;
One more thing. I was facing the same problem with blackhawk kernel.
I just think a battery can't die a sudden.
Could anyone help me with this?

There are a few things that can be causing this, but the first thing that you can try is to wipe your battery stats using "BatteryCalibration" app. After flashing a few things, it's best to do this. I had the same thing happen after flashing my third ROM or so.
After that, it basically comes down to the apps and widgets that you have running. Shut them off with a task manager so they don't end up draining your battery, but it might not be that either....
The only other thing that I can think of is that I heard in another thread (I really wish that I could find it again ) that the ace has a motherboard fault that causes it to drain faster than usual.
Other than that, all I can say is that the Ace generally has poor battery life, and it really does suck, but I don't really know how much more you can do. You could try flashing a stock-light ROM and see if it does the same thing (wipe battery stats too). But I would say is that you should try wiping the stats and see if anything changes.... Other than that.... I`m out. Hopefully it helps, and if it doesn`t, you might need to take it in (Service Center or wherever you bought the phone).
Maybe try searching in other threads (as it is a common problem) but besides that, goodluck :fingers-crossed:

I forgot to mention but I already did the calibration, using the app and manually to see if I could get different results.
I even tried to force a better charge, charging the phone off, waiting till 100%, unplugging and recharging, till the phone gets 100% again.
Ace's battery isn't good, but a month ago my phone was holding 12-14 hours without charge, using wifi a lot, that's why I think something is wrong.
Well, I'm flashing the original stock rom to see if get some change.
Thanks about the motherboard information, this is new for me :good:
Gonna see tomorrow if the battery holds better with the original stock ROM.
Thanks again!
Wiping the battery stats is a myth. All it does it clear the battery usage screen!
Android has a built in tool which can try to check the health of your battery.
Open the dialer
type *#*#4636#*#*
then go to battery information
Look at battery health.
Feedback
Just to give a feedback, my battery was really damaged. I bought a new one, stock because I didn't find other, and the phone now easily last a day, even using wifi a lot.
But that's not the only reason why I posting here again, I want to share how my old battery is. Comparing with new one, I realized that the old battery had stuffed something about 5 mm
If you pay attention, you'll see the small deformation.
Don't know yet what could have cause this, but I think it was heat and bad recharges...
Thanks for the help :good:

I'd recommend you to use SetCPU to prevent this on your new battery. Set up a profile with sound notification when it hits around 40degree, and underclock it at the same time.
I faced a similar problem. Battery was hardly six months old when it died but it was my fault. I was running a wi-fi tether and continuously charging it for about two days. :silly:
Got a new one under warranty. Been a year with the new battery and just recently facing problems with it. 3G just sucks the life out of it.
OK I just got 3g on my phone (yay for promotional 6gb plans!). But yeah, the 3g definitely kills my battery. I used to be able to go two or three days with very little use. Now I can only go one day even with standby with my 3g enabled. As long as I can put my phone on to charge before it dies, its all good to me
Finally with my 3g going, I understand everyone else's pain with the battery life haha

so recently (about 2 weeks ago) I used this guide to root my Incredible S and did everything except the Blackrose part
and since then
I've noticed that my phone has drained its battery a lot quicker than usual
I lost 11% of battery when I woke up, fully charging it the night before
I usually do not use it much, only a call every 2 days or so, and I do not have internet connection
so I cannot understand how I have to charge it every day now, when it used to last 4 days (on Sense)
here's a pic from betterybatterystats
thanks everyone

"No data connection" and "No or Unknown Signal" on Betterbatterystats
with steep drops in battery whenever there is "Mobile network signal"
and next to no drop whatsoever when there isn't
PLEASE HELP ><
new attachments down there with stock rom
tell me if you need a translation

I know and I've tried to look around for answers for quite a few days
but for most people
it's either the same as Sense or something else (too many apps, not charging fully...)
and for those with similar conditions
I can't find solutions for
and the problem got worse today
in the 7 hours I slept yesterday
the battery drained from more than 50% to nothing
so the alarm didn't ring because it shut itself off

The standard charging time isnt what it says on the box or anything. It should be roughly 6 hours from 0% to 100% and thats providing you plug it into an AC outlet. I would suggest trying an app called Greenify. It hibernates certain apps/ services that may not be in use thus saving battery. I would also regularly check the Running Apps in settings and clear out anything unecessary.

I don't have a charging problem
it's a drainage problem
and about Greenify
I already installed that when I looked over the battery saving guide (which didn't help)
I literally have 5 apps in the Running Apps section
the part I don't get is
why does Cyanogenmod 10.1 use battery so much quicker than Sense
when I have 1/4 the apps I originally did?
it's the "No Data Connection" and "No or Unknown Signal" part really bothers me.

Hmm then this battery drainage is strange. Try making a full backup in recovery. Then clean flash the ROM again. If the problem still persists, then I have absolutely no idea whats wrong lol

Actually
I tried that...
on Sunday afternoon I reflashed it
my exact steps:
1. ClockworkMod backup
2. Install from zip
3. Advanced restore - data (I restored the whole thing too once before that, but thought that just restoring the data might actually change something)
and that's when it went from 50% to 0 overnight
not looking too good -.-

OK
so that didn't work out

hope someone can help!!
meanwhile I'll look for more articles online since I know it's not (really) CM's problem anymore

Ensure to charge your mobile fully and after a NORMAL usage (calls, WiFi, Mobile Data on).
Just share the dump file from betterbatterystats. It would help to analyse better.
Edit:
Could notice you are using some widgets in the home screen. Usually widgets with high refresh rate drains your battery.
2. Facebook app is causing the partial wakelock. Even when the screen is off, the app is using your CPU. Try to disable autosync if it's enabled
3. Audio_out3 wakelock is due to phone vibrator is enabled. May be during call or keyboard haptic feature.
Power manager service wakelock is common and its in good level.
Try to check your CPU freq n governor.
And adjust accordingly. One more, Li-on battery should not be charged fully. Just charge till 85-90%. The battery will drain little lower compared to fully charged device. And you need to charge your device only when battery is low. Frequent charging n discharging will affect the battery life. Consistent Charge and discharge cycle is encouraged.
Try to share your fresh dump here or in batter battery status thread. There are many folks to help you with.

Thanks for the detailed reply sir
My widgets (aka weather & tasks) only refresh manually, and nothing is on Autosync (in the auto sync menu, anyways)
originally had only vibration for calls, turned that off too now
and what is "CPU freq n governor"?
didn't know that about the batteries
I'll do that next time
and I just reinstalled betterbatterystats, so I'll post the Dump File after a few hours
Thanks again!!

I mean CPU frequency steps and CPU governor. It's a kernel thing. Just search xda, you will lot of info regarding that.
Sure, post your dump with normal usage.
It's easy to click thanks rather than expressing in words

I don't know how to explain this... Hope you'll understand me. So my phone was full charged so i put out the charger and i go to school. After 6 hours i came back and my battery was at 50%. I was surprised but when i tried to call someone my phone died. So when i starded battery was at 3%. Same thing today, i put out my phone from charger after 2 hours i tried to do 2 photos and *bam* died - 3% battery.
There is a screenshot so you can see what i mean. Can you tell me what is the problem? Hope you understand me
wow, that's a HUGE drain. I recommend installing a wakelock detector to see what is causing that huge drain on your phone
This is how you would go about using the app to find the issue.
1) Install the app from google play "Wakelock Detector-Save Battery"
2) Open it
3) Once it opens, reboot your phone
4) Once it reboots, leave it for 5 mins
5) Unlock your phone and open the wakelock detector
6) Check the bar at the top to see if your phone was asleep and how long it was asleep for (should be around 4 mins)
If it is 4 mins or above, then your phone should not be having battery drain, ensure you are swiping away apps after use.
If your phone was awake the whole time, then you will be able to see what is causing this and you should uninstall this app
Also, you should enable the power saving option to maximise battery life.
Make sure you charge the phone while its turned off, apps can interfere with the charging process while the phone is one, this could also be the cause of your drain, so turn off and then charge.

Seems normal to me, deep sleep is good. Ask here, in the WD thread, maybe someone could help you. Better than post it here. Have a nice day.

I think WD thread is the best place to ask & WD will help you only to detect which app is draining your battery.

I'm just sayn' that i don't think that is a problem with some drain. I think than my phone don't know exactly how much battery have. Sometimes has 3% and after one second of chargin' has 47%. I just reset phone to factory settings and, same problem ):. I'll post there. Hope that someone can help me

Ok, there is no specific app that is causing that your problem. So do you charge while your mobile is on, or off?
Also, is your phone rooted? If it is, try re-calibrating your battery.
