HTC Flyer Powered Charging Stand for Nook Color?

I came across the following charging stand for the HTC Flyer. What do you think? Would this work with our Nook Colors?

Well, it might connect but won't give you the fast charging ability of the stock nook cable (which has additional connections for the 3-4 hour rapid charge). Provided that you connected to a 2 amp source, you might get a charge after 8 hours or so, and if you had a 1 amp charge, _IF_ your screen was off perhaps after another few hours (12?).

This might actually have fast charge, thank to it being for the Flyer and all. I think this stand would work, but I have no idea how far that micro usb comes up from the bottom. Hate to have you set your Nook down and break it off or something.

Well I took a chance and ordered one from some store in Hong Kong. Will be here in a few weeks and will let you know if it works out!

Well, just to give you some idea of my tests.
Stock charger + cable = 3-4 hours
Stock cable + 3rd party 2amp brick = 7-8 hours.
From that picture it looks like a universal mini usb attachment. I doubt it will give the 3-4 hour charge. It probably will be a 2amp source though.

That would still mean you need the proprietary cable tho, and that's what keeps on breaking.
I wish a cheap 3rd party manufacturer would pick this item up...I wonder if monoprice would consider making them, or if they are protected by patent and unable to be reproduced because of it.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just had to call for a replacement today myself.
Probably is a patent issue, but that doesn't stop many manufacturers in China from making cables for Apple products, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
EDIT: Not to go too off topic here but I found these three on eBay, all of which state fast charging. Anyone tried them?

So, I tend to charge my devices overnight, so 2 hours or 6-8 hours really doesn't usually matter to me.
I see this dock as being a neat way to use the device at my desk (twitter feed, play music, etc...) as well as a stand to charge with.
Some folks have mentioned that standard MicroSD's don't charge the nook. I have used many different charging cables for my Samsung Captivate and found that the nook charges (and never complained about the time to charge).
Also, I checked out the Flyer at my local Best Buy store. The Flyer has a proprietary connector that is a modified MicroUSB connector. However, a standard MicroUSB also works. Looking at this item, seems that the stand from HK uses standard MicroUSB.
I'm guessing that the biggest issue I could come up with is 'fit' of the nook in this stand. Specifically, do I need to modify the stand so the back of the nook sits flush against the stand and doesn't put too much stress on the USB connector (assuming there's some space between the nook and the stand).

Any update on this?

Just got it in the mail - I'd rate it an 8 out of 10.
Will post pics soon, but first impressions:
- Looks really good, blue indicator light when connected / Charging
- Hard to first figure out alignment, then it gets easy
- Fit:
- A little extra room between the back and the stand, not much wobble. Could always use tape or something to close the gap
- A little wiggle between the bottom edge and the stand. Again, some kind of black padded tape would easily resolve and look good. Not sure if I will event attempt as not a hassle yet
No idea on charging times, never been an issue for me as I'll use this:
1) At my desk (put a twitter feed or music on)
2) Overnight charging (3 hours or 6 hours don't really matter to me)

Does it hold the nook in landscape? I know it wont charge, but curious to know if its capable with the micro USB being there. Maybe add a pic with it in landscape as well.

Landscape is not advised.... If you can balance the device on there, will scratch up your nook.

Wireless Charging with the EXTENDED Battery - Solved

If you're impatient like me, here's a DIY $13 mod I did to make the extended battery wireless charging enabled. Presumably works on all charging mats as the whole idea behind Qi is a universal standard.

I moved the coil a little bit so the connection was more secure after the video. Works without issue.
I bought like 5 touchstones so I can have one in my home office, office office, bedroom, living room, etc.

Do you know if the touchstone works with the VZW inductive charging back for the standard battery?

honestly i havent really read into the different technologies used... so no idea
my guess is if it did work it would probably not be as good an experience as the magnets are probably not placed in the same alignment (so the phone won't know exactly where to attach giving a sub-optimal placement)

Looks pretty nice, I happened to have the soldering supplies and wire might do this myself. How is the charging time as I can't find the output for the touchstones anywhere. Would you still recommend it after having it for a while now?

it has to be perfectly aligned to charge properly- from what i've read the real bionic backplate works even through cases-
i'd say wait for a better version that is less finicky
or make one with the bionic reg. battery wireless charging door like i plan to

I'd like that. I tried my bionic with the inductive charging door on the touchstone, and I couldn't get it to work, so this mod would be great. I hate the LG charging mat for the bionic
Do you know if this was a tight squeeze in the extended battery door? Also, does this mean you cannot take the door off anymore?

I did this using the stock charging cover for the bionic.
It works perfect but you need a Qi compatible pad. After searching I found one on ebay for 35 bucks. The only problem is it makes removing the battery difficult. My next project is to see if I can make the mod so it works just like the production cover.

Anyone do Wireless Charging Mod with Atrix HD?

I have plans on doing this mod, but was wondering if anyone also has tried and had either success or failure. Wondering if I should waste my time.
As far as I know the mod is done by using the Palm Pixi coil and connecting the VCC from the phone to the positive terminal on the palm pixi and grounding it somewhere on the phone.
I checked the internal of the phone to see an alternate spot for VCC that would make it easy to route the wire from the phone to the pixi coil terminal and I found a small part that would give me just enough space to run a small wire.
I am not a professional so if anyone sees me saying things that arent gonna work, let me know please.

As a test, I am going to cut one end off a micro usb cord and plug the other end to phone.
I will solder the +5v and Ground to the pixi terminals and see if that atleast works.

Far as I know we do not have an induction service on this phone to do wireless charging. It would require a different battery and some extra to get that to work.

I am talking about doing a mod, not something natively.

Good luck then. Most likely the average reader will not be able to install something as complex as wireless charging into their phone.

Hate to break it to you, but it wont work. I attempted the mod and it just wouldnt work and I did it perfectly. I work with integrated circuits, so I know what I am doing. See the photo, I used copper tape to go the two positive and negative prongs on the battery to the Palm Pixi coil.
Too bad, I really wanted it to work.

No, you are wrong, the way I did the mod is the correct way to do it. You connect the positive and negative terminal of the palm pixi to the battery like my picture shows. The reason why it does not work is because the battery doesn't have the wireless charging chip in it like the Galaxy S3.
The wireless modding chip is called "NFC". They do sell some NFC stickers I saw on ebay, by putting one of those stickers on battery it might work but I dont feel like messing with it anymore.
Before you say I did it wrong , remember who you are talking to, I did 100 PS2 mods back in the day.

NFC is not required for wireless charging to work. For the Palm Touchstone charger, all that was replaced on the phone was the battery cover. The Palm did not have NFC.

No no no.... NFC wasn't in the palm pixi from two years ago.
All the mod is is a little coil that goes on the inside of the battery cover. Our inspire/dhd phones even had the mod and there was most definitely not NFC on board.
That being said is there enough room with the battery in there to do the mod?

theres definitely enough room if youre using the stock eb20, maybe not with the eb40

Even if it doesnt have NFC, you can buy the NFC stickers on ebay to add function.

I had a Palm Pre Plus with the touchstone charger, and it did not have NFC. NFC is not required for this type of wireless charging to work.

Ok guys, I did the mod tonight, and could use some assistance.
I hooked up the positive of the palm pixi coil to a +5 on the Atrix HD board, and when I place the coil on the charger, it does send power to that +5 spot on board but it doesnt actually allow the phone to charge unless the phone detects an actual USB port plugged into phone.
Anyone know some way around this ?

So, if you try and charge with the touchstone, and then plug in a USB cable to the phone (but the other end of the cable is not plugged into anything), then it will charge?

It sounds like the process of plugging in a USB cable creates a short across 2 (or more) pins that tells the phone that a USB cable is plugged in. You test for continuity when the usb cable is plugged in to see what pins are connected to each other, and then create a permanent short across these pins so that the phone thinks that a usb cable is always plugged in. But, this could also cause other problems. So, if you were to do this, I would create a short that is temporary (so that it will stay, but can be removed) and test other functions of the phone (see if data on SD card can be used, see if the phone can be turned off, etc)

Since there are a lot of knockoffs on ebay I thought I would come in with a pleasant surprise. I bought http://item.mobileweb.ebay.ca/viewitem?itemId=130783773578this expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works on my Note2. The only thing is the usb cord is not very long and you have to have it plugged in so that the phone is charging for it to work, but for the price is awesome.

I ordered one just like that off of ebay as well and it works for me too. They all have to be plugged in to power to work.

Well I learned something today. This is my 2nd Samsung phone and first experience with mhl adapter and didnt know it HAD to be plugged in. Thanks.

The HDMI part of the cable is 6 feet like advertised but the usb power part is less than half that length. I have a usb extension cable somewhere but can't find it to try it :banghead:

That's what's posted up a bit and mine wouldn't work without power source. Learning curve lol.

One thing I did notice is that even with it plugged in and "charging" after a couple hours on watching you tube the phone dropped from 80% to 72% battery so not really sure if it's charging or if it just takes that much power. I was using the wall charger that came with my phone so it should have been getting the 2 amps.

I think this mhl cord probably only allows 500ma. Something I use to counter that is this

My dock has been charging my phone perfectly for weeks, the other day I came in and plopped the phone on the dock and nothing.
I checked the pogo pins (of the dock) with a multimeter, they are working. I've tried different power sources for the dock as well (wall adapter, pc, other cables).
I've checked to make sure the pins are making contact with the phone, good solid contact.
I haven't changed anything on the phone recently, any suggestions?
The phone charges fine through USB.

since i apparently posted this on the apple forums instead of xda, all the replies were "shoulda bought apple products"
so anyone having this problem, i solved it by reinstalling a nand backup. apparently it was a software issue. hopefully this saves you from the apple fanboys.

No, I was too impatient for it and got the goosewhite dock, besides I like the looks of it better tbh. The dock is putting out power, I don't get why it's not charging. its not a complex system at all.

Get the Sony one if you don't want the same issue occurring.

why would changing the dock have anything to do with the problem? when voltage is applied to the pogo pins, the phone does not charge. how would changing the dock i use make a difference in that at all?
i would understand if the pogo pins were putting out less power or no power, but they put in exactly the amount of power going into the dock, they make good solid contact, i've check continuity and its making a solid connection...

Then take the dock apart and see if anything got loose

Because the one you've bought is rubbish!
I brought this as an alternative to the Sony DK26 because I was sick of opening the flap everytime I wanted to charge my phone. It does fit the Xperia Z and looks nice enough. It also activates the dock mode and the Xperia's smart connect function. This is why I gave it 1 star. HOWEVER, it outputs at 500mA as opposed to the 1800mA delivered by the Sony dock. This means it charges your phone incredibly slowly. I had my phone on the dock charging for 11 Hours and it managed to deliver a battery charge of just 51% which is ridiculous compared to the Sony charger which delivers a 100% charge in 2 hours.

I do not get why would anyone go for something cheaper and unreliable. Its like those iPhone users buying cheap non original cables to charge their iPhones, ended up causing the phone to blow up or messed up and blames it on Apple.
and yes you are the owner of the phone and you have the right to buy whatever 3rd party equipment for your phone, but dont expect it to work 100%.

It is really hard to determine the main cause of this matter. It could be your phone: hardware or software (i doubt it is this one), or the 3rd party dock.
You tell me which one to throw and buy a new one.

Already told you why I bought it. There's nothing but stupidity in that review as docks do not put out power, they transfer it, the power supply puts out power. As for the amperage, it puts out what you put in. it will do [email protected] if you are stupid enough to put that through it... Assuming the wires don't burn. if you are going to base your assumptions on a review, at least choose one from someone knowledgeable. also, my dock never took 11 hours to charge, not that i ever bothered timing it but it sure as hell wasnt more than 4 hours (and thats giving an a good bit of a safety margin), i'd guess 2 hours 0-100 if i had to.
What I'm telling you is that the phone is not accepting the charge, not that the dock is messed up but the phone. And I wanted to know if anyone had similar issues or suggestions.
I'm glad you have insight on the matter and an opinion, however you are not trying to answer the question. I've already informed you the dock is intact and making a connection. I've checked the voltage of the xperia official charger at the cable at its end: 4v dc, the dock when hooked to that charger is 4v dc tested at the pins. I can put a larger amount through it, and any number of amps. A pogo dock is a very simple device, official or otherwise, the difference is mainly in price and design. The diy thread is a perfect example of that.

It's been answered, you've not bought an official product, that's the problem! Buy cheap unofficial batteries, expect issues, buy cheap replica SD Cards, expect issues, buy cheap unofficial chargers, expect issues, and looks like you can cheap docs to that list too.

Have same dock and same issue sometimes it doesn't want to charge but I just simply put it out and in and it works after reinserting.
