Anyone know of any good call blocking programs for the kaiser? preferably free?
thanks
jb
Google for a program called Call Firewall. I use it on both my Kaiser and my Wizard and it works very well.
I like smartblock it does both phone calls and SMS messages.

I've used Call Firewall but I don't like how it lets my phone ring once then silences it and it doesn't give me the option to block private and unknown numers. I can't remember if it lets me block by area codes though, but I need that for the stupid 866 and 888 numbers that call at 7am.

Is this program free?
SmartBlock d/l and installed. But is not going into effect. I did some reading and it says it only supports 2003 and WM5. Any suggestions for those who use SmartBlock?

Yeah it seems like finding a good call blocking program is quite a bit harder than it should be. I tried a bunch of them then settled on this one.
call block
It does cost money ($10). It's not quite perfect but it works pretty well.

Hmm, I've never had the problem with it ringing my phone once before it blocks it. I have an ex blocked and she used to call me about 10 times a day and it never rang once.
Also, I'm not sure what version of call firewall your using, but it has the option to reject unknown/private calls right on the first page on mine. I'm using version 1.2. And, if you go to menu and then black list options and choose the pattern option it allows you to block calls starting with a certain number such as 866 or 888.

Thanks for the link Mex, but unfortunately I got it to work and I thought it would be the one I was looking for but after you turn it on it will block the numbers you wish not to pick up BUT when you go to make a call, a popup comes and says something like "sorry you are un able to make this call right now either there is no signal or the number you are trying to dial isn't a verified number, please try later. Have you ran into this problem?

Thanks. I must've had the 1.1 which didn't have the private/unknown numbers and such. I will give it a shot. Hopefully they config the program to go straight to vmail like SmartBlock does and doesn't even show up on your device call logs but only in SmartBlocks history log.
Going to test out Call Firewall right now, I will report back.

magicall works amazing! it is indeed the best.
For me the best blocking sw is NOVOSEC's smartfilterpro. Unfortunately it doesn't work in wm6.
I was using Call SMS blocker. Not free but work excellent.
http://www.winmobileapps.com/device/pocketpc/csb/csb.aspx
Just wanted to resurrect this thread to say I tried Smartblock and MagiCall (didn't try Call Firewall due to the one ring delay) and found that:
- Smartblock had a one ring delay before blocking while MagiCall doesn't.
- MagiCall has the option to answer and then immediately hang up, meaning the offending number gets charged for the call!
For those two points alone, MagiCall is about to get my business. I also found the option when making a rule to choose whether you get notified about events or not.
Thanks for putting me on to this program.
I have been using SPB Phone Suite which also has this feature, though I have yet to use it. It supports Black Lists, White Lists and no CallerID. I just turned it on for PrivateID- I'll let you know how well it works.
You know the lady voice that announces when the battery is almost dead, when you get a text message and reads it to you and all the other stuff...is there any way to change that text to speech voice to a different female voice? I know there are several other voices that are available but not sure how it would be changed on wm 6.1
First off, what app is doing that for you?
huh???!!

Are you sure your using a diamond for that? I have used a diamond for months now and have not discovered that feature!! please provide further details as to what device you have and which country bought in etc.
interesting....
I think I know what he's talking about, which is he has MS Voice Command installed.
As far as I know, it isn't possible to change the voices on MSVC but if anyone can prove me wrong please do, as I'd love a different set of voices as well

He's talking about Voice Commander. When you receive an email / sms you can run it and say 'Read SMS' or 'Read Email' and it will read any unread emails /sms
Very handy, esp. when driving
I would also love to know how to change the voice though

Come on now, of course I know what freakin' phone I'm using. That's like asking someone if they know what kind of car they drive and if they are sure about it.
Here's what you do to enable it:
Settings>Voice Command>
Check 'Enabled'
Check 'Messaging', 'Status' & 'Phone' boxes
The go to 'Notifications' and check 'Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only'
[/LIST]
Those directions above will read out loud the person calling you when you get a call, the person who sent you a SMS and what the SMS says, will read to you any email including the sender and subject line, but not the email and will also notify you when your battery is gonna die.
Trust me, it's a major attention-getter when your phone reads a text message to you when it comes in and people around you are like wtf was that. Plus it's great if you are lying in bed or something and your phone is across the room...you can hear what the message says and whether or not it's worth getting out of bed for. :-D
But anyway, if anyone knows how to change the voice please respond. Thanks!
Voice Command isn't installed on all Diamonds as standard and as I stated, there is no way to change the voices, I have searched for this myself before with no luck.
cool!

This sounds like an excellent app! I tried locating it on my UK O2 spec diamond and could not find so if anyone has got a cab file please post. I will search google now and i'm sure i'll find it and post if no-one beats me to it.
Man i'm learning new sh!t about my phone everyday. Cheers guys i know i have not answered your question but you have helped me finding something new
nice one!
pretty sure you cant change the voice but i know there's a registry tweak to slow the voice down witch makes it easier to understand. I've just remembered I'm sure there's the tweak in Advance config hope this helps
yeah i have this enabled on my phone and its the best when your laying in bed and wonder if its worth looking at. I do wish it was a more sexier voice like sigourney weaver from planet earth, and a little slower would be nice. IT came stock on my sprint diamond fyi, im surprised other versions dont have it
I have a sprint diamond and mines only talks when someone sends me a text message marked urgent and thats it. I have all the tabs checked on VC in the settings menu. am I missing somthing?

You don't have it setup correctly, that's why.
Go into Voice Command and do this:
- Check all the boxes you want to use this service. (Phone, Messaging, Status, Etc.)
- Highlight 'Messaging' then click on 'Options' button then UNCHECK 'High Priority Messages Only' and CHECK 'Announce New Messages'. Do the same steps for others like 'Phone' and 'Status' to change it's options. Make sure you highlight it first.

sometimes I'm driving and remember something I need to do at home
I'd like to get my Kaiser and use some voice command like "create reminder in 2 hours: check bank account" or something like that
is there any software that can do it?

I remember seeing something like that on the Enterprise, Captain Picard would seemingly talk into thin air , and a disembodied female voice would do whatever he said, I can't remember what rom he was using though
For now you can link your voice recorder to button 6, though you will have to manually check it to remind yourself later.
LOL
Just to confirm, Picard was using voice recorder on his Kaiser. He used it to record all his Captain's logs as well.....
It's the best he could do..... and therefore perhaps the best you will Lemonhead.....
Good luck.
lol
I already expected to have to push some button before starting talking
but my voice command is seems very limited... I can only ask next appointment and things like that, but I can't create a new one
FAQ:
Question: Why do the CallBack and SMS buttons seem unresponsive at times?
Answer: Make sure you have 7,10, or 11 digits entered, also while gVo Online Features are loading in the background, CallBack and SMS buttons are disabled. They will be enabled upon loading.
If we don't disable them, then we can't guarantee that the number you selected will be pasted in the correct spot. This is a result of having to wait for google's responses to our actions. Sorry!
Question: Is WM6.5 supported?
Answer: I don't run wm 6.5, but it really depends on which rom you're using. Custom 6.5 roms that use the newer beta Internet Explorer browser do not work correctly with gVo because of the newer IE dlls.
gVo
So ever since the public invites started going out to google voice users, I've been looking for the perfect google voice dialer. Google has yet to release a windows mobile version for what ever reasons, and so I was on a mission to make my google voice life easier. I came across subpro's iDialer, which worked great but still wasn't as easy as I wanted it to be. Plus its integrated as a regular dialer too so it was a bit more complicated then I wanted. There is also OneDialer by m_drunk, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted either. I read about GVdialer but that one isn't free, so I didn't get a chance to try it. Anyways, so I spent two days (and nights) working on my own dialer. Finally, I have a workable application, so I thought I'd share it. Free of course.
*** You must have .NET3.5 installed ***
*** You must have Windows Mobile 6+ ***
*** Touch Screen Phones Only ***
MAY NOT WORK RIGHT WITH THE THE NEWER IE VERSIONS
Anyhow, here's what it is:
Current: v0.6.0
Select contact and dials their Number (Mobile)
Enter in a non-contact number and dials
Supports ALL Resolutions (QVGA,VGA,WVGA) new!
No Skin Support (since this is meant to be a quick and easy app, no need to worry if it looks good)
Landscape support new!
Google Online Functions such as SMS/CallBack/Inbox/Voicemail
Support for International Calling
ChangeLog:
v0.1 - v0.2
added online feature
changed graphics / layout
v0.2 - v0.2.1
Made change to dialing pauses In the hopes of speeding it up more. Doubt it changed anything though. (so you don't really need to update to this version)
v0.2.1 - v0.3.0
Made online features a bit faster. (but realize that if you have the gVo online features enabled, it will try to connect to google on start up. If you don't want that, then disable it in the config)
Added a red button to select which number to use from your contact. (M = Mobile, H = Home, W = Business/Work)
v0.3.0 - v0.3.1
Changed username length up to 50
passwords are up to 25
v0.3.1 - v0.4
Removed Graphics (so we don't have to worry about skinning and resolutions)
Now supports ALL resolutions!
Now supports Landscape!
v0.4 - v0.4.1
Added dedicated Online/Dial buttons (Online Button only visible with online feature enabled in config)
Google Number can now be 11 digits
Changed config page's layout to be landscape friendly
v0.4.1 - v0.5.0
Changed dedicated "Online" button to dedicated "SMS"
Added "CallBack" Checkbox in config (for those who want a dedicated callback button)
Made the graphics look better (goodbye google colors! Hello Black, Seems everyone likes black)
Disabled SMS and CallBack buttons while online features loading (If we don't disable them, I can't guarentee numbers pasted in the right box)
v0.5.0 - v0.5.1
Changed dialing requirement of 7 or 10 or 11 digits to only 7 digits or more (since international dialing can vary in how many digits total)
*** if you don't dial internationally, you don't need to update to 0.5.1 ***
v0.5.1 - v0.6.0
Added better support for Google international calling
(added checkbox that enables support for international calling, everytime you dial you will get a message box asking if it's an international call or not. I know it's kind of a hassle but it's the only way to really support international calling. If you never make international calls, do not enable international calling and you will never see the message box)
*** INTERNATIONAL CALLING IS NOT FREE, YOU MUST HAVE GOOGLE VOICE CREDIT ***
Voice Features:
Dial - gVo dials your google number, enters your pin number (if you have one) then dials the person you want to call (from manual dial or contacts list). Basically, it does what you can do by yourself, but in an automated way. Also, this method allows your google number to show up to the person you're calling.
Online Features:
SMS - Logs you into google's site, and pastes in the number you dialed or selected from contacts. You should be tabbed into the text field ready to text!
CallBack - Logs you into google's site, and pastes in the number you dialed or selected from contacts, then automatically clicks call. After that, you may have to choose which callback number, but if you only have one callback number, it should only ask you once, then be automatic from then on.
Both Online features will also let you check your voicemail, and do other things to/with your google voice account.
(DONT FORGET, ONLINE FEATURES USE DATA/INTERNET! SO DONT ENABLE IT IF YOU DONT HAVE A DATA PLAN!)
Anyhow visit google's website for more info on Google Voice.
And oh yeah, I do not take any responsibility for any harm this application does to you whether it be mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, etc. Also, I am in no way affiliated with Google, so all logos and whatever belong to them. I did this in my spare time, with the intention to share with everyone else in this great XDA community. **Also realize that I'm not trying to make the ultimate best google voice application with bells and whistles, I just want to make it easy and simple to use.**
Enough of my blabbering and here is the cab, enjoy!
Tips:
If you enable gVo Online = Google Voice Callback, SMS, Account Settings, VoiceMail (uses default internet connection)
If you disable gVo Online = Google Voice Call (Calling Card Method)
For gVo Calling Card method, you can either dial the number or get a number from the contacts list.
For gVo Online, you can also dial the number or get a contact's number, then connect to gVo Online which defaults to the SMS feature. If you need the number you selected, its in the system clipboard, so just paste it.
nice.. i want to be able to use this with wifi if possible... without using the phone method. keep up the good work bro
good going...look forward to added features

keep in mind that with cdma phones a call will go to voicemail if the phone is connected with (active?) 1x data (EVDO/3g connections will pause for calls)
I'm not sure if it's possible to send the call back request and terminate the connection fast enough, but I'm willing to test if you find a way to try.
edit; further test proved my suspicion that you can be connected with 1x, but no data sessions can be active. there is a registry entry to control this (evdo or 1x)
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"SuspendResume"
Works great on my HTC Touch Pro Please please add the SMS please Please

Ok, I added an "online" feature, and since I don't have a cdma phone, let me know what/how it does. Like you said, we may have to do a quick data termination to receive the call. Thanks!

Hmm.. I did a hard reset and tested it on my device, and all is working fine. Make sure you entered your google username and password and number/pin correctly. I am also on energy rom on a Touch Pro, Fuze to be exact. I am running the latest build as of this writing, which would be the august 11th 09 build. I have no problems at all...well the online mode pretty much blows(Onedialer isn't much better here either), takes FOREVER to load the GV page, the calling card method works great, however perhaps you have to many pauses here and there cause the GV Dialer uses the same method but zips through a little faster.
However I like your implementation better as the GV dialer asks which service to use everytime you make a call, whereas yours can be assigned as a softkey and used only when needed. I was using iDialer in the same fashion however, in order to call from a contact you needed to install iContact in addition, whereas yours uses the existing windows list. Cool.
If you could speed up the calling card method(try the GVdialer trial and see for yourself) and mabye implement the sms in the same way or better as one dialer, then yours would be byfar the best in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks a lot for the comment. This definately will help me better understand how to improve it. Yeah, I haven't tried GVdialer yet so I'll have to find time and try it out, maybe I can impliment a similar sms solution. I just wanted an easy way for people to connect to their google accounts. Basically as an all-in-one online feature. I'll see what I can do! Thanks again!
If I use it without the internet it works fine... but as soon as I click the checkbox... I click connect a blank page comes up... then after a few seconds the program just closes.

Ok, so I tested both GVdialer and OneDialer, and they are basically using the same method I am.
About the calling card method, you have to wait for google's prompts and then enter the your selection. So there isn't a real way to speed it up much more than it is already because I'm using the most minimum pauses I can. In fact, as soon as you hit dial, my application sends the number string with pauses included to the built in dialer, then my application exits. So my application actually has nothing to do with the dialing after you hit the dial button. (You can listen in after it connects to google and hear it dial against google's prompts) The only way to really optimize the speed is to make a real standalone dialer and time the google prompts with your selection, but even then, you'll only save a second or two.
About the SMS features, because google doesn't have a real api yet, we have to improvise, and so what we're essentially doing is logging into google's website first to get credentials then we can send the text. The only difference between onedialer and mine is that onedialer has a built in SMS form, which is what I had originally too but I thought it would just be better to just use an all in one solution (the google site itself). Because no matter what, you'll always have to log into the site to get the credentials first, hence the long wait.
Once google provides us with a real api, we'll be able to provide faster solutions.
Ok, anyhow, that was a semi technical explanation, sorry if it was confusing.

Ok, it's most likely a connection problem then. Are you connected to the internet? My application "should" try to connect you if you're not already connected but maybe something in your settings isn't allowing it to connect. Try connecting to the internet first(wifi or data plan), make sure you can browse the internet first, then run the gVo application and see if that makes a difference.
When you hit the "Google Online" button, all it does is connect to google's website. If it comes back as a plain page, then it's just not reaching google's site. So I assume its more of a connection problem.
Would this work on a Axim x51v just to control GV, like you can from the web site?
***UPDATE: user Kayla has provided a workaround until a predictive dialer is included, press green call button then press mag button, its a QWERTY keyboard search but its still the fastest with 2 button pushes to make your call ***
searched in forums but didnt find an answer to this:
2.1 with htc hero cdma meant you could push the green call button and the dialer would come up. with CM6 now the call log comes up. not helpful.
also, and more importantly, the green button used to bring up your contacts and dialer pad but the dialer pad served to quickly narrow your search for your contact.
meaning if i click the call button i then click the number 6 and the first name that comes up is Michelle followed by Mike etc etc..
now the dialer pad only dials numbers.
to search your contacts i have to push the green button > click on contacts tab > press the menu button > click search contacts > use dialer pad that only shows ONE and half darkly lit results.
?? any ideas?
i am LOVING the removal of my dialer lag i used to have with 2.1.. and i'm loving the speed overall. but this is a deal breaker man. two pushes turned into five just to make a call. also, no way to bind what my green button does?
thanks

Well, I know at least a slightly faster way to search is press the green dialer button, press the Contacts tab, then long press the Menu button and the keyboard pops up where you can search. Still kind of sucks though.
I do miss the predictive dialer but i've learned to deal with it
I use dialer one from the market.

I believe you can also press the search button and type the name of your contact. Or even better, long press and use the voice dialer to dial the contact directly.

This is actually what I do. Download Voice Dialer from the market (made by google, only works on froyo), long press the search button and say "Call [insert name here] Mobile." There's a bunch more things you can do with it, watch this video with a ton of stuff you can do with it.
right well these are all useful but they are not a solution.
for example, pushing 5 buttons to make a phone call is a step down from STOCK 2.1
also, using voice talk every time to phone someone is a no go. i can think of many instances where i dont want to announce who i am calling to my wife.
(oh i am faithful dont think that way)
and finally, the search feature includes EVERYTHING not just contacts, so M shows michelle and mike but also MSN and mikes hard lemonade. your rebuttal would be "but you can choose what search looks for" thats right and i actually use it alot.. so i dont want to limit it just to contacts because of the other times i need it and because someone failed at designing a phone to actually be a phone first and foremost.
what i found was a workaround provided by Kayla in the irc hero cdma channel:
click green button then click magnifying class button, and you can search your contacts only using a qwerty keyboard. it aint as fast as the dialer but its a damn improvement down to 2 button pushes!
if anyone else has a better solution please post. thanks!
(oh and dialer one isnt bad, its not themed correctly for 2.2/ cm6 but it aint bad...i might switch idk.)
... I believe your solution there is exactly what wjason said. The "magnifying glass" button IS the search button, and notice he told you to hit the search button. Or long press to dial by voice command. I like it better than finding contacts by t9 dialing, myself.
Obviously I'm just adding fuel to the fire here and not anything helpful....but this is one of the biggest reasons I still stick with Sense. I like its dialer and contacts MUCH better than the AOSP ones.
That's why I thought Ic3Rom was such a genius ROM in my opinion -- the speed and 'bloatlessness' of AOSP but it had the Sense/HTC dialer and contacts built into it. Too bad Mdawg isn't still dev'ing that one.
Sorry, not intending to threadjack. Carry on...

no thats incorrect. jason only mentioned using the mag button and not green button first then mag button combo. theres a distinction there.
the mag button alone brings up EVERYTHING , its just a plain ol google search. too many results. see my above post about this issue and why its not efficient.
to chromiumleaf:
so that rom is no longer in development? crraaappp.
anyone have any ideas on how to port over his dialer, or ANY sense dialer that is still lag free as the AOSP? my whole reason for rooting and flashing was for the dialer lag.. it was stupid waiting 20 seconds for a call to connect. but now i've lost the efficient method of calling people.
and yes people (including in the irc channel) are saying "boo hoo go cry" etc etc... but thats really ****ing stupid.. 5 button pushes to make a call without voice? i think people forget this is A PHONE first and foremost.
anyways, the green button and then mag button combo are the best solution, albiet a workaround for now.
dialer one still contains lag for me so that options out.

When I first switched to AOSP, I missed HTC's dialer a lot....then I found Dialer One. Orders of magnitude better, my friend, orders of magnitude. It is just as smooth and functional as HTC's with far more customization. For instance, I like having my wallpaper as the background for EVERYTHING. My apps in the app drawer appear over my wallpaper, and when I dial, the contacts and their numbers do, too. Being able to easily edit the color of the text in the dialer means that this works with virtually any wallpaper. There is not one thing that I have found that HTC's dialer does better. Nothing. Not integration, not smoothness, not reliability, not speed...NOTHING.

u dont experience any lag on the htc hero? i experience some lag when haptic feedback/ vibration was enabled that turned me away. i tried it once the hero cdma got 2.1 and i saw no difference in lag, then i saw slightly less with 2.2 / cm6, but still.. i need no lag when my phone needs to be a phone and not surf the web. meaning calling people.
idk. i might try an alternative kernel to see if it helps with the dialer one lag.
