Swype is at prerelease for anyone that used beta.
Sent from my revolting VS910, we shall not eat cake.
However...i just got the email. Uninstalled swype beta....and now they recalled it. So now i'm swypeless....ugh this sucks I'm going to miss it until their estimated Friday re-release.
EDIT: Yay! for Titanium Backup....so I still have swype.
Also, I guess their servers are down and MANY people deleted swype just to get errors and boneage
I find this kinda humorous...
I've got it and will theme it tonight and will release the one that I got.
I'm Revolting and Home-Less, how about you?
Yea seems like it's all fixed, just downloaded it.
The gesturing to edit is kind of awesome:
Swype Button-->A = Select All
Swype Button-->C = Copy
Swype Button-->V = Paste
Then the more useless ones:
Swype Button-> G -> M = Google Maps search whatever is typed
Swype Button-> F -> B = Facebook post whatever is typed
and one for twitter....
MT:
Also i'm on Revolt 1.3, home-less running GO Launcher
I def love the themes you've done, but i'm currently on Handcent with the "Silver" skin and the stock gray and blue swype matches sooo wellll

Ok I've downloaded apps and bought better keyboard like a retard...my phone isn't rooted and I don't play on rooting it..I just want a keyboard thats as close to the iphones as possible cause the regular android keyboard ain't up to my spec...Or something like swype I'm just looking to hear reviews on keyboards people have tried and stuck to...also have a question about handcent and Chomp which is really better?

Download one, try it for a few hours or days. Download the other, rinse and repeat as needed.
There is no 'really better' or best one - of anything!
There is only better for you, or better for me.
Personally, I send/receive 2,500-3,000+ texts per month.
I have tried both Handcent and Chomp. They both have cool features, but neither was good enough for me to keep installed for more than a day or two.
I received my N1 on Jan.08, and promptly rooted it by the 14th.
I bought BetterKeyboard last year for my G1, but the novelty of COLORS MAN on my keyboard quickly faded.
I used the HTC_IME on my N1 as soon as it was available, and now I'm rockin' the Swype Beta right now AND LOVING IT!
Best Keyboard right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
Its free and doesnt need root. Just install the HIRES version through a file manager such as astro or Linda File Manager and enable it through settings. I love this keyboard, especially after all the modifications the developer made.
hmmm, just installed. don't see a difference. rebooting now, maybe that's the deal
edit: no. long press only offers android keyboard still as only option. :/
I am a little confused. You’re asking which is the best keyboard, then you list SMS applications as the alternatives to choose from?
Keyboards:
Personally I am loving Swype, really cool! Not so good for typing out non dictionary words, but it does the job. If you don’t like the concept of Swype, HTC_IME is by far the best. Really nice looking and very easy to use!
Sms Applications:
I personally prefer Handcent SMS over both stock and chompSMS. It just has a nicer look and feel to me, and a few more customisation options. And i love the quick reply! (I only look at the threaded view when i need to look on past conversations)

You have to first go into Settings->Language And Keyboard. Then enable the keyboard that you installed.
They all have the same name as the application (Better keyboard, Swype, etc) EXCEPT HTC_IME, where it will be under Touch Input.
After you have enabled it, long press on '123?' then you can choose between the currently installed AND enabled keyboards.
Hope that helped
Full version is out on the market!
What are you doing go DL it already!
Left for history
============================================
Looks like its now working!
I'm using it on Vegan Ginger RC1.
Go grab the apk from the link below.
So far it looks really good,
Typing in landscape is easier, since the keys are much bigger than the stock one this rom comes with.
having arrows on screen is a big plus
And it has lots of symbols you can use by long pressing.
Speaking of long pressing you can change the time it takes to long press in the settings.
Will try post some pics later
Here is the site if you guys want to check it out for yourself.
http://thumb4beta.blogspot.com/
Known issues:
Long pressing on the settings key causes a FC.
Curious if thats the case with other roms
How did you get your keyboard to work with your tablet? I've tried several keyboards besides the one that came with my tablet and ROM (TnT Lite 4.2.5) and it won't even let me select the box to make it a choice.
Try unchecking any other input devices/kb from the settings. I had similar issues when i had other kb enabled

You have to move the Thumb Keyboard apk file from "data/app" to "system/app" via Root Explorer.
Then you reboot and go into your Market and longpress the search text box. You'll be prompted to choose your input method.
Im also testing the keyboard for the developer. So far so good. Always loved the paid version i bought.
I like the new layout though g tabbers will never get to enjoy the multi touch that it now supports (i think our hardware supports only 2 touch points).
Edit: Yes, long press on settings causes a force close on TNT Lite over here too. Reported to developer. I think its actually because he disabled the functionalities for other layouts.

Did the whole process again and it worked! Love it
I downloaded, installed, enabled in settings, and selected as the input method. So far it's working just fine. Haven't tested that extensively yet but for now it's pretty awesome.
What's the verdict on this so far? An improvement on the previous version?
Is voice recognition working?
Been using the paid version and it's great. However the voice to text doesn't work. Is that fixed in this version?
It doesn't? Think you need to activate it in settings. Works on my g tab.

Thanks for the help with getting the keyboards working. This is a nice keyboard.
Voice is working fine on my tablet.
I like this keyboard a bunch, hands down the best I've used on the tablet so far. I'll definitely be buying it when it comes out of Beta.
agree. Very very happy with it.
does this not do spelling or auto correct ?

I have not checked the voice part yet, but spelling and auto correct works fine.
Both the market version (3.0.2) and this version are constantly FCing for me / not working at all under CM7 and I'm pulling my hair out trying to understand why.
The more I use this keyboard the more I like it. I keep noticing things that are just well thought out and useful, like the long-press for smilies on the left space bar and .com (and long-press for .net and others) button. Even common fractions on the center-right number pad. Very cool, very useful, and definitely a keeper. It's been rock solid and stable under VEGAn 5.1.1. I'll definitely be buying a copy when the full version is released.
Please give complete paths. There are several data directories on my system but none contain an apps folder. My system folder does though. I installed it and it shows but i can't enable it. Runs fine with just a standard install on vegan ginger.
So I've been playing and downloading .apks for Swype to see if I could get it to work on the Zio. Well I have. I have Swype working 100% on my Zio, and this is what I did.
Go here
https://rs878l3.rapidshare.com/#!do....apk|13728|R~825F047419259699D1377263DB221F3F
Download the .apk to your SD card.
Go to SD card and click on the Swype.apk and hit install.
Install it.
Reboot.
Enable Swype in Keyboards.
Enjoy new shiny swift keyboard.
Move to SD with App2SD or Link2SD if you can, 13mb is a lot for a keyboard. But it's fast and responsive and makes one handed typing a breeze. IMO of course.
Swype sucks (JMO) if I had to recommend a tracing type keyboard I would go with Slide-it keyboard much better and faster IMO.
Swype isn't even in the top three of tracing keyboards, no offense to the topic creator. At least in my opinion, of course. The best, again in my opinion are ..
Ultra Keyboard
FlexT9
Slide-IT
ShapeWriter
...and THEN Swype.
Swype is the only one of any of these keyboards that I can get fully functional, for free.
The free versions of three of those apps do more than any version of Swype. Just saying.

Unfortunately you are correct, but I think it was well worth the money spent on Slide-it. I could send you the .apk if you would like.
You can find it on Aptoide (with Aptoide Repos from the market) as well. Thanks for the link to the .apk, looking forward to trying it. Glad I got to it before the mods take it down.
Well I never had a problem with swype which was free but after paying for slide because I couldn't get swype on this phone b4 I was highly upset. It doesn't learn the words I use the most. I have to slide a lot slower with Slide-it or I get the wrong words. If you're not paying attention and make a slight mistake you find yourself going back and deleting words you did not mean to type(sometimes I think of Damnyouautocorrect.com when this happens). Slide-it also gives me trouble with the characters on the far right side of the keyboard. I can touch em but always get the letter next to them alot. Also it randomly will give me a character to spaces away a lot too. Now my phone is running really fast and doesn't lag or freeze up at all. So I know it has nothing to do with that.

Looks pretty damn nice. I just started one earlier myself.
that looks awesome. i'll give it a shot a little later, after i get back from the grocery. nice job and the effort is appreciated ^_^
Im 35% dl, will try to install in a couple of minutes.
Installed great, great rom, a bit of lag (but I did not wipe data and cache). Nothing too special about this. I love the battery notification. I flashed this successfully from steel droid.
Another thing is this topic should of been posted in android development section.
don't believe i have enough posts to post there and i was not sure were to put it
Good job. I have not done it yet im just very cautious about stuff waiting to read more of what people are saying before I jump in. Im mostly waiting for the on rom that claims to be really fast. Those are the rom that I like. But I always try out most of them.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Almost all roms a blazing fast on any device I've had, but what makes them slow is all the apps I download and just forget about. Or when I don't clear all of the data and cache.
What file did you edit to get the thing bar that says, "ongoing/no notifications" black? I can't find that damn thing.

Don't hold me to it since I haven't pushed any of the image files I made back to the phone yet to see but I think in systemres it is "zz_moto_title_bar_bg_bottom"
Oh man, this looks sweet. The grey/black theme really caught my attention, as it will go really well with my venom loadout. I really need to learn how to make roms! If my shift tonight is slow enough, im gonna get started on learning.

I'm also dying to find out what was edited to change the "ongoing/no notifications" bar thing to change. Can't for the life of me find it.
So Far so good! Liking the theme.
Awesome Themed Rom. Really liking the grey and white. It looks so much better than the stock blue. Keep up the good work.

Just a quick warning to anyone using Swype beta on an ICS version of the Xoom.
When in portrait mode, I get an error saying that Swype does not support my screen size. I click through the error, and can use Swype beta as normal in landscape mode. However, in portrait mode, all the keys are off by a couple letters.
I caught myself swyping away in portrait mode, then looked up and saw my text was all a garbled mess (not that that is unusual )!
I've tested this in Team EOS 33 and in the Kangd Cyanogenmod 9 Ice Cream Sandwich builds.
Swype announced a few weeks back that they are working on ICS compatability. Given their track record, it shouldn't be too long before we see a working version.
Swype on Xoom
That's wonderful! I hadn't seen anything about that yet, so thanks for the update. Without Swype, I kind of feel crippled

+1 just can't force myself onto a 'regular' keyboard anymore.
And I thought I was just too drunk to Swype last
night
I'm hoping for a speedy resolution, hard to imagine
typing before swyping!
I'm glad Swype is still sort of working on ICS. I can put up with the occasional popup warning. I haven't noticed any issues using it, but then I tend to stay in landscape mode.
I did notice a quirky issue when I disabled Swype. The default keyboard switched to Japanese instead of the english android keyboard. When this happened I consistently got a popup error that the keyboard stopped responding and I lost all keyboard input.
Luckily, it was easily fixed in settings by changing the default back to english. Then I could re-enable Swype, and all was good again.
BTW, this was on kang's ICS rom (1/12/12).
ICS Update
Has anyone gotten the Swype update that works with ICS? I got it pushed to my phone but not my Xoom. The current versions are:
Phone: 3.26.92D38303.t0.8611.ENSP
Xoom: 3.26.92D.37556.t0.7108.HCAmericas
I'll have to check... but I used the swype beta installer and I'm not sure what the version number is...
