Anyone able to get zinio magazine reader run on the nook color?
Following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827566 here I got the apk and installed, but the zinio app isnt visible and the readerhub isnt working either.
the zinio app is the last thing I need to say woohoo and be satisfied with the root.
Thanks to all who have done so much with the nookcolor to root and share the information!
Thanks
I tried it as well. Got nothing.
Seems like a cool app but doesn't work yet.
I was just on the phone with Zinio today because I wanted to find out if they will be coming out with an Android app, and they told me they are working on one and should have it sometime in the first half of 2011.
This version

works for me on Nookie Froyo, but dies on the stock firmware.
I tried installing on stock firmware with adb. I got the icon to show up but that's about it. I did try changing permissions but that did not help either. Works on my EVO. So something is missing the stock firmware.
Maybe it requires flash to work, it works fine for me on Froyo, booted of an SD card.

Anyone have this working with CM7 on the Nook Color? I loaded the three APK's but zinio just force closes as soon as it tries to connect. If the wifi is off the app seems to work. Tried fixing permissions and rebooting but it didn't help. Wondering if maybe it doesn't work with flash 10.2 perhaps...

I just received and promptly put nookie froyo on my nook color. Unfortunately, I cannot install facebook for android on it. It does not find it in the market and when I attempt to install from the browser based version of the android market, it says incompatible with my device.
I searched and read countless threads and have not found anyone else with this issue or anything discussing this.
Thanks!
did u clear the data and cache on the market and framework, they showed up for me when i did that.
Had to do this to get market to download in the first place. But just tried it again, with a reboot, without success.
thanks though
There are some market issues still with nookie Froyo. Im sure the devs are working hard to get it fixed.
I pulled the apk from my DX and tossed it into my Dropbox and boom.

so you took the market.apk to fix your issues, not the specific apps you were trying to get apk?
Hey, i'm having an issue with cyanogenmod 7 on my Nook Color. Switched from cupcake because I thought I'd have greater compatibility with apps. Since the change, programs that once worked (e.g. snesoid, beautifu widgets) won't book. Just get hung and ask me if I want to force close. I'm using the tablet tweaks and everything... is this just how it is, or did I mess up somewhere along the line? Thanks.
I can't speak for the specific apps or ROM ur using, but yeah this happens with the occasional app. Remember that u r using an unfinished product. It will get better as CM refines it. Android as a whole is a buggy system. Its never going to be as functional as something like iOS.
Did you wipe either Cache and/or Data partitions before flashing CM7? Wiping the Data partition will wipe all installed applications and settings, however, it will prevent any weird issues arising from incompatible settings across different ROMs and OS versions.
I don't know about snesoid, but my personal experience is that BW works very well in CM7.

Sounds like something's wrong. My Beautiful Widgets works great. I'd try reinstalling using these instructions:
I have similar problems with both Beautiful Widgets and the XDA app. When I log into the XDA app, it gives me a force close pop up. However, when I use the XDA app without logging in, I don't have any problems.
Which instructions are you referring to in that MASSIVE 100+ page post?
Thanks.

The first post on that page.. That's how I flashed CM7 (pretty standard method, really) and I have no problems with Beautiful Widgets. Haven't tested XDA app. To be honest, I have problems with XDA app on my Droid 1, CM7, so I never use it.
Thanks everyone! I installed following the instructions from wiki.cyanogenmod http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
I will give it another shot and report back when I do. Right now I've gone back to cupcake, but still having a problem with beautiful widgets- gets stuck on the "loading skins" screen, never loads.
p.s. I *did* wipe the cache and data partitions
"Cupcake"?? I think you mean "Eclair"?
Cupcake was many versions ago, before the Nook existed, and the Nook Color ships with Eclair...
So, I switched to cyanogen, but I couldn't get beautiful widgets or snesoid to run. Trying to revert to factory settings, but every time I try I get stuck on the word ANDROID in blue.
I've tried hard booting 8x, I've tried running the script to change the bootcount but this just gets me to clockworkmod. I try running the factory reset/data wipe option, but it clearly doesn't remove cyanogen. I've also tried sideloading a 1.1 version zip, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Would uninstalling clockworkmod help?
Are you sure you followed the 8-failed-boots method precisely? That really should have brought you back to stock, at least as far as I understand.
http://nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
I really do think so. It brought me to clockwork recovery instead of the usual factory reset...
Well I'm out of my league (I haven't done this) but it seems there are still ways... You could check out http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...install-cwr-save-root-revert-stock-image.html or do some searches here.
Now I'm stuck on the N sign instead of android... Tried everything in the link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 including the boot partition. No dice. The only way i can get it to boot is to reinstall cyanogen. Is there some trick to uninstalling cyanogen? Any other suggestions out there?
It seems like cyanogen just WON'T WIPE. Even when I format my data, it still loads, despite clockworkmod reporting that it has been formatted. Ideas please!
Check at androidtablets dot net
look for the link about restoring and removing clockwork from an SD card. I'd post the link but I can't yet.

http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...install-cwr-save-root-revert-stock-image.html This one? tried it, no luck
Bummer. Yeah, that's the link. You might want to look in Nookdev too. They oulined a process that was similar, but they said you have to do the image restore AND unregister... though it's been a while since I've looked at it. It might be more helpful. Good luck in getting it back to stock.
This is unfortunate. I had been under the impression it was a LOT easier to get back to stock. (I still bet someone who knows will give you the right guidance.)
Oh well, I guess it's a good argument for using SD card booting exclusively -- I can't wait for a final CM7 SD Card ISO.
Just got my Nook today, and am interested in rooting it. I'm looking for the best method to do so.
I have rooted my HTC Inspire using Bubby's one click method, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with the process, but want to make sure of the preferred method for the Nook before I started.
Any and all insight would be appreciated.
This is what I did: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
It was easier than hide-and-go-seek against helen keller.

This is what I and many, many others have used. As far as I am concerned this is the best guide for installing cm7 on the nook color.

I just use the version room manager has.
There's a post for the new market here in the nook forums, but I can send you the apk if you can't find it.

That would be appreciated, things I'm wanting to do:
- Market (I've got various items I paid for, that I would like to try).
- Fix ROM Manager, when trying to download, I get "Must upgrade...", then a force close. I'm assuming this is because I don't have the paid version installed, which I can download from Market (since I purchased it)
- Install Amazon Kindle (for the irony factor).
Any insight would be great, since I'm obviously new at this (I've owned my Nook for about 15 hours)

I used the method described in Cyanogen's wiki and had the same issue. I ended up having to install through recovery instead of ROM Manager.
So is rom manager not working for you?
I'm sure there's about a million download links for this, but il make our ready for you

OK, I am now officially pissing myself. I am now able to get into Clockwork Recovery, I've wiped Factory/Cache/Dalvik, applied CM, and after a system reboot, it just goes back into recovery.
Help!
I am not having any luck whatsoever, and am afraid I bricked my device.
I've attempted to do a CM install (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide), but after putting the image on, and rebooting, it goes to black, but never comes back up.
Not sure what to try at this point.
OK, something new, I was able to return back to 1.0.1, but when I get to step 5 of setup, it indicates there is a problem, and to call B&N. It reports that the serial number, model number, and Mac address ing as "MISSING", and it is at version 1.0.1.
I do have a blue dot on the box.
Ok i read some post but i am looking at getting a Nook Color for my wife and then rooting it using CM7 to the internal drive and getting her a 32gb micro card
the ? i have is does it run Adobe Flash Like Android Phones
I dont get exactly what are you writing, but if you ask if NC runs flash, yes it uses flash normally through the appropriate web browsers, like eg Dolphin.
Sure, you just grab the Flash app from the Market. If you're having trouble with it letting you download, you need to go to Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Market and uninstall any updates. This will give you anywhere from 10 mins to a couple of hours to install any troublesome apps, before it auto-updates back to the new Market.
I use a hacked version of flash that let's me watch hulu and its pretty smooth compared to any android phone I've used flash on.

Took hours to track down this post, and I'm not even sure if this is the best thread to ask this question, but I am running Phiremod 6.3 and can't get flash to work, as it will not show the download button in the new market. Tried the above, and while that did help me to get flash to start downloading in the old market, the market updates before the download is complete, and then kills my download of flash player 10.3. The closest I've been able to get is 80% download of flash before the market updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never mind. Trial and error eventually paid off and I got it downloaded in under 30 seconds
Use Titanium Backup to uninstall the market update app. The uninstall the update and then try again.

Watch out for 32GB SD-cards. Some do not work right in the nook color. Electronic ghosts and what-not. A 16GB Sandisk class 2 or 4 is advisable.
Two Nook Colors here, one rooted, one stock; both using Sandisk class 4 32GB cards without even an hiccup. I can't imagine a Sandisk branded card ever having issue honestly.
DolphinHD browser seems to work fine with the version of flash on the marketplace. For Opera to work with Hulu though (my preference), you have to follow the directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040971
Install the version attached to the original post and follow the directions on replacing the libflashplayer.so and you should be good to go!
If you just using uSD card as storage, then get one with high-speed (high class rate such Class 10) from any well-known brand.
