CM7 ? - LG Optimus 2x

Anyone have step by step what needs to be done when upgrading your CM7 rom. om on 115 and i've seen in the newer versions some things have been fixed and i want to update, but do i have to download all of my apps again? contact i grab from gmail so i'm not concerned about that, just apps and data (pics/sounds etc.)

Don't have to do anything at all, just flash the new nightly and you're done.

wont that delete all my data?

no you dont lose your data by flashing a new cm version

pls can u tell me,what is new in #49 rel.?
I want to instal that #49,im currently at stock 2.2.2 rom.
My BB is : 1035.21_20110405
Phone is rooted and new cwm recovery installed from ROM Manager.
I wonder what works and what doesnt work in this #49.
Can i freely install this rel. or should i wait for some new rel.
Im not advanced user.
Thank you
Well, thats for you to find out with your curiosity.
Allow me to ask you. What is the difference between Android froyo and Gingerbread? Haha, huge different. Install it i believe you wouldn't regret.
As stated, video fails sometimes, but i haven't faces any fail recently... Other then that, i personally thinks its flawless.
Cheers goodluck
Thank u for reply,
i'll install it , just need to find SD card large enough to do a backup first.
Just to ask...
steps?
1.backup stock rom and data from recovery
2.clean/wipe data
3.install zip from SD card
4.wait to complete updating
5.enjoy?
am right?
One more question...
Battery life? Now my battery life is about 10h most.
Thank u
It doesn't matter an advanced user or not. And in that case, the CM7 nightly builds shouldn't be much of a problem for you. I haven't tried the CM7#49 personally, but i tried the #48 build and i found it to be pretty good. everything was working fine.

To answer your question:
morrison, zeppelin: correct model names to match stock (android_vendor_cyanogen)
Recovery BackupTool: add system mount check to prevent (u)mount if already mounted (android_vendor_cyanogen)
CMParts: Remove (Evo) from pref_flash_mode_summary string (android_packages_apps_CMParts)

Why don't you just read the CM7 thread? Everything is written there:
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Optimus 2X (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Root your device
2. Install ROM Manager (search the market for it, no need to use the Premium version), and from there install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Do a Nandroid backup!
4. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5. Install the ROM
6. Optionally install the Google Addon
Thanks for reply,i‘ll do that.

About to install custom rom, a little concerned...

I'm considering installing the new UNL3ASH3D custom rom but I have a few concerns. I was running CM7 on my Droid1 so I'm not a total noob with Roms. I've already rooted my bionic and have bootstrap. My main question is in order to install this ROM the directions say to do a full system wipe in order to install. So am I going to lose everything I've already installed on my bionic, like my apps, contacts and SMS? Also, I know that there is a update coming out in November from Motorola to fix bugs and hardware issues. Will I still be able to get that update and other OTA updates with this ROM? Thanks
If you came from an OG Droid, wiping should be nothing new. It's part of the game...
And wait? Up to you man. V3 runs great, and I'm pretty sure a new update is coming tonight. That's a decision for you to make

You just format/system under mounts and storage instead of wipe data. No need to wipe the data. Wipe dalvik under advanced and wipe cache and you will not lose anything.

According to DroidTh3ory, he said-
NO MATTER WHAT ROM YOU ARE COMING FROM
THIS ROM WILL NOT WIPE. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM ANY OTHER ROM YOU MUST WIPE EVERYTHING, AND IN CLOCKWORK UNDER "MOUNTS AND STORAGE" FORMAT /SYSTEM.
Isn't stock considered a different rom? So you would need to wipe everything including data, which in that case you lose everything.
Also, DroidTh3ory will just update UNL3ASH3D when an OTA updates come out. Currently, v1.4 is better than stock so no reason not to update.
Titanium backup?
Make a nandroid?
I did that just in case.
All of my apps were saved in my google account, so Market just automatically re downloaded those.
I backed up all my contacts to a vcard on the SD card. And my pictures/videos/music are already stored on the SD card. What more data is there?
It was a tad annoying waiting for FB and other services to resync my stuff, but that got done, eventually.

I've seen a couple of references to security regarding the Bionic. Can someone fill me in?

I switched to v1.4 UNLEASHED yesterday from stock, and so far I'm loving it! I will be using this until the LIBERTY rom gets out of it's current alpha state and gets the official release. I have the LIBERTY ROM on my computer, but I don't think I will flash it, even though I hear the alpha stages of this ROM are excellent. If you would like to try it out, go to chat.andirc.net. Type in any username and in the channel type "#Bionic". This will allow you to download the alpha stages of Liberty.

This is correct. You MUST do a full wipe whenever you're coming from a different ROM, and as stated, stock is a "ROM". I made a nandroid backup of my stock rom before installing unleashed for the first time, as well as backing up all user apps with Titanium Backup Pro and texts with SMS Backup. Restoring all my apps was a breeze, and all my contacts/whatnot restored automatically thanks to being synced with my Google account. It's painless, just follow the instructions in the main thread and you'll be fine.

Hello, I have the Unleashed ROM on the Bionic. If I wanted to go back to the stock ROM I will need to do:
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
mounts and storage select format/system
Can I then restore from my backup?
Titanium Backup, grasshopper. Back up EVERYTHING with it. It is the absolutely essential app if you're going to use a custom ROM.
Thank you. I had a backup of the stock ROM that i did before installing the Unleashed ROM.
I essentially loaded with bootstrap did the above and restored with the back with no issues

I wonder what the TH3ORYROMS [CLARITY] will look like. Do we have any info, will it be vanilla-like?

[Q] moving from froyomod to cm7, everything is deleted?

will i lose all settings, files, apps?
is there a way to keep everything and change rom?
I would say it is good practice to do full wipe when switching to different ROM generation.
Once you are on CM7 upgrading to never version is OK with just caches cleanup.
In your case I would use TitaniumBackup or any similar app to backup all the apps. In theory you could try to restore the app data but may not work properly. Use as much as possible backup/recovery build in the apps.
BTW consider app2ext - I do not known if such a feature is available in FM - search the forum how to create separated partition on your SD card
well i gave it a try.
updated OR, did all 3 wipes, installed the latest CM7 and rebooted.
i just got the M sign no matter what i did.
had to nandroid back to my latest backup.
never had that in any froyo mod.
is it hopeless?
should i try again?
When you wipe, go into the partitions menu and format boot and system too.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
how exactly?
didn't find it in the OR menus.
Don't do that!
There's no data of /boot in CM7 packages!
Switching from Stock 2.2.1 to CM7 worked flawlessly for me back then.
Try downloading the CM7 .zip again, apply it and do all 3 wipes afterwards.
tried again, like you said.
didnt work. back to froyo.
bummer.
ok, tried the HO NO mod of this rom and its working!
looking great. thanks for your help.
this HO NO is a version of the original CM7. meaning if there are future updates to the original CM7 i will be able to update, correct?
i wont have to necessarily wait for a "HO NO" version?
It's not that easy.
HO!NO! is a CM7 mod - that's right.
But if you mix updates from both HO!NO! and CM7 you will very likely end up with the M-screen or bootloops again.
Usually it's like this:
Update the ROM you're on: flash zip, wipe caches
Change to a different ROM: flash zip, wipe everything

[Q] [CM9] is Factory Reset needed by using nighty update?

hey dudes and guys,
i have installed the RC0 CM9 on my sgs.
now i think about an update to the nighlies.
The files will declerate with "update" tag.
so, in my opinion, i can update my system without any losts of my data.
Is that right?
Or is there a big change so i need to reset the system?
And if i need to reset, can anyone tell how i can save my personal dictonary?
i´m frustrated to create a new dictionary by each upgrade.

Should be right...just make a nandroid backup and don't forget to wipe cache & dalvik cache

Bootloop with Nova

hi
so i was running NOVA HD 1.0.3 and i wanted to update to 1.1.0, but i didnt know if there was a different way except for flashing to i opened a post on XDA and got respone:"yes, u can just flash over the older version, if u dont wipe data all files will be saved" (thats what it said in short).
So i tried this, booted in latest CWM, wipe cache partition-> install from sd card-> NOVA HD V1.1.0, setup wizard and now i'm in a bootloop...
I took 128mb swap, heavy multitasking and europe gps, the rest i left defaulted as i remember. Then just the reboot after the install wizard, now its in a bootloop. I tried to make a NANDROID backup but when backuping the data it encountered an error so that was a no-go.
It is looping in the cm boot animation, after the lg-logo.
Do i just need to download different ROM and flash that, or back to lg stock software??
hoping for quick response cause i ****ing hate this, and i already lost all my data as it is now, i assume.
got it working now after full wipe

Refering to my answer in other post??? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781601)
I NEVER said that your data will be saved if you dont wipe.
When you're flashing a new version (update) of the same custom rom, you dont need a full factory wipe. Only Cache, Dalvik and Battery stats wipe are needed. But if you change, for example, cm9 to cm7, then you need a Full Wipe.
So before accusing people, be sure of knowing what you're doing. We are a community and we try to help other people.
When we say "Make a NANDROID backup" before doing anything stupid, it's not a joke. So before flashing anything new...try to solve your real problem...
Maybe you need to read more then only 1 thread to understand what is working or not when you're flashing new rom or kernel...
