Internet download speed limited by Galaxy Tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I often download files off of megaupload and rapidshare. On my computers i can download 800mb files in about 60 seconds. However my tab can take over 20 minutes for the same file on the same network. What is limiting my tab speed? Is the the wifi chip on my tab?
Ive had no success in researching this.

While I might have borked the math, 600mb in 60 seconds means 100megabits per second. Do you have a wifi n connection? Because otherwise the theorical peak is 54mbps, and, even if this could be an issue with my setup and not the Galaxy tab itself, I reached up to 25mbps (connected to a wifi n access point)

wifi is always slower than a wired connection, and phones/tablets have lower power wifi than a laptop or a desktop adapter would have so thus slower. If you're running G instead of N wireless that's also a big difference..

[Q] Get the best out of wi-fi?

Hi, I was wondering if there are ways you can increase your wi-fi speed, like installing drivers or changing options or something? I was also wondering what is the max speed the wi-fi can get up to on the captivate? Ive gone as far as almost 18 Mbps and I have about a 54 Mbps on my home modem.
Sorry no, if you are using a customised ROM, they usually have the so-called "Wi-Fi fixes" on them (not even sure what they fix).
As far as I know though Captivates should be using the full 802.11g capacitiy anyway... What are you using to test these speeds anyway?
The speed test app from the market, only thing i could find to test the speed, thanks for answering!
Ah right, then the speed test you have done is for the Internet Speed. So that's the actual speed you're getting for the internet (even on your home computer, if you're doing this test at the home Wi-Fi), not the actual Wi-Fi speed.
Wait...I tested speedtest on my home computer too and I got about 45 mbps(highest i got) and then I got a 18 Mbps on my phone using wifi(both "download" speeds btw) there are one or two things using wifi in my home but I have another question, am i supposed to be getting around the same speed I have on my phone as I have on my home computer?
Do you have the home computer using wireless as well?
No, I have fios,my home internet modem is also a router
Then yes, it will depend entirely on how many devices you have using the wireless at one point. If you have a 802.11g wireless router, then the max total output will be 54Mbps. This will obviously be shared among your wireless computers/devices.
holy **** so your saying that my captivates wifi can get up to almost as much as my pc modem can?
Theoretically, yes. If there are no other devices on it, and no interferences in-between.
Actually, I just found out that our Cappys have Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n; DLNA.
This means that if your wireless router supports the 802.11n framework, it should use that instead (which is greater than 54Mbps).
Of course, I'm not sure if the ROM and/or modem will support that... Stock ROMs will most definitely support it, and probably any ROMs built using the Stock ROM.

[Q] Slow internet connection with wifi?

As the title says for some reason when I am connected to my home router via wifi I am getting horribly slow connection speeds. Some games I've gotten require that you download a 250 or so meg file.however its utterly impossible as it downloads at like 40kb/s. I use to be able and sometimes once in a while I can get it to connect at 10mb/s and for a little bit it'll download the game at that speed too, but then revert to god awful speeds again, where speed test will go to something like 100kb/s down.
Any idea what is happening our how to fix it so I can always have the fastest speeds available?

Anyone at all?

Have you ruled out the router as the issue? The routers I have owned in the past have a "best used before" date so to speak... they seem to burn out and get awfully slow after heavy prolonged use.
If the router is good, information on your ROM might be helpful.
Try resetting your router to the default settings.
Oh sorry, I'm using the leaked froyo 2.2 update. As for my router I'm running ddwrt on a linksys wrt54g2.. I don't think its the router as I've got another computer connected wirelessly that seems to run fine..

[Q] Slow wifi connection, how's yours?

Hi
I am using radio XXLB2 and i have a wireless N 300Mbps router, TL-WR1043N, but whatever i try the sgn only connects at 65Mbps and even tho i have a 120Mbps internet connection i get a maximum of close to 30Mbps downstream bandwidth whenever i test with the speedtest.net app...
It kinda looks like something is limiting the speed to that connection speed and to that downstream speed...
Is there any thing that i could change to try and get more speed? different radio maybe? i think i had same results on the other radios tho
What are the speed connections and real downstream bandwidth that u guys have?
If somebody has same router, do u have same limitations as i'm experiencing?
thanks
I have the exact same performance but with another router. I have 100Mbit, but only getting 30 with speedtest.

its known if you search the forums that the note only connects at 65
mine connects at 65 and i get a full 30 from my isp, people are hung up on certain things when it is perfectly normal
If it connects at 65 then why are we only getting 30 from or ISPs when we have much faster lines and other devices get more?

[Q] "slow" Wireless AC speeds

I say slow because they are much slower that a Galaxy S4 and Note 3. At work today we were testing out a Belkin AC router to a cable modem. Using the Speedtest.net app the galaxy's were reliably hitting 200-210 Mbs download speeds. My new One was only able to muster 95Mbs down. I come home and connect to my ASUS N66 router and I'm able to hit 104Mbs reliably. What gives? This makes no sense to me. I verified I had a 433 Mbs link when on the AC router at work, same as the Samsungs, we were all in the same location I even tried standing where they were and holding the phone differently in-case I was blocking the antenna. I never expected to be able to get 104 down at home standing one room and 30 feet for the router. Is there something weird going on with the app maybe?

In WiFi advanced settings, disable WiFi optimization - other uses stated it helped them to increase the speeds.

Thanks I read that and tried it to no avail. Speeds were better yesterday at 150Mbs and inline with a coworkers brand new ONE running 4.3. I believe it is just a matter of how HTC deals with packet size (windowing) and not truly indicative of throughput capability. The test runs for a limited time and the throughput increased throughout the entire test. If it ran longer it would climb higher but just how high is the question.
It's a matter of curiosity more than anything as I never need those speeds nor are the repeatable anywhere but in that test"lab" In reality I only have a 100M connection at home and with power boost see speeds of 150 max. I get 100+ reliably (5Ghz N network) to the phone from my main living space and that's nothing to complain about.
I will have to say the range on the ONE is outstanding. My desk is 100 feet from the AP and I was able to obtain 125Mbs reliably from my desk. I didn't have the chance to compare it to the S4 at that distance but I can't complain about that speed.

Android 7 - 5Ghz WiFi slow

Jun-3 2017 got OTA update a few weeks ago. T813 doesn't have problem connecting to 5Ghz wifi but on 5Ghz the connection is slow. Appears to be capped at about 10MB. Whenever I run speedtest while connected to my 5Ghz network I get 10MB uploads. Disconnect from 5Ghz, rerun speedtest and I get 80MB uploads. Go back to 5Ghz rerun speedtest, back to 10MB. Can reproduce this every time.
I guess I am stuck not using 5Ghz.

Found this in a different thread. Changed to channel 40 and speedtest shows upload speeds of 80MB. Netgear recommends using channels above 149 but I will stick to 40. Anyone know why using the lower band 5Ghz channels gives higher speeds than the higher band channels?
do you happen to be using a euro model in north america? what is your CSC and which country are you using the device?
On router (if possible) change channel width to 20 any frequency should fix wifi. Atleast for me this worked

After changing the routers channel bandwith, this thing goes from 10 mbps to 80mbps. They need to fix this. All my other devices max out at 235mbps on 5ghz. This tab is too advanced to be doing this.
Had the exact same issue on my new T713 and the channel width change from Auto to 20 worked for me on Asus router. Left the Control Channel on Auto. Thanks!
I had this same issue too. I had to turn off Power Save Support then I didn't have anymore 5 GHz slowdowns

Mine had the slowdown with Power Save off - the channel bandwidth was what fixed mine.
hey guys, my download speed is very slow on 5ghz wifi, but few time ago was working well, I dont know what happened. My macbook reach 120MB download and 10MB upload, but my galaxy s8 shows 10MB dowload speed. I tried change my channel width on router, but didn't work.

I'm finding 5GHz to be a real mixed bag across all of my devices - Tab S2 T713, 2 iPad Air 2's, Dell XPS 13 9350 laptop, a Lenovo desktop, 2 Dell desktops, and a Galaxy S7 Edge phone. Performance seems to be inconsistent and I see complete dropouts where the band isn't even visible on some devices. This is irrespective of distance from the router, an Asus RT-AC66U_B1, number of connected devices, etc. When it's good, I see 120MB/sec but other times it will drop off by 50% or more or will disconnect. I've pretty much reverted to 2.4GHz except when I get the urge to test 5GHz out again.
