Hi, I'm thinking of flashing a custom rom to my Captivate, I'm on stock 2.2. However, I've purchased some gameloft's game through gameloft's page not from the market. I still keep the apk files, so will I lost those game's license after flashing a custom rom.
Thank you.
Any licenses should be tied to your Gameloft account, not to your phone in any way. It is extremely unlikely that installing a custom ROM would affect your games at all. However, you should probably consider using something like Titanium Backup to save the data files for your games in case they store any licensing information.
No, when you download games from gameloft website by your phone the games aren't ties to your account like you download it from PC, they are tied to your phone and browser.
Ex: I use dolphin browser to download some game. I can use dolphin to download those game again for free but I can't use stock browser to download them again.
Here's Gameloft's policy - http://www.gameloft.com/faq/#8. I don't see how the browser you use would make a difference....

where can i get non-market games and is there a way we can convert iphone games to a g1?
As of now, there are very few non-market applications, as the market is the easiest way to distribute apps and games, with the exception of some experimental apps, and iPhone games have nothing in common codewise to Android games, it'd be like saying "can you get my xbox to run ps3 games", it's just not right, though there may be ports of similar games, there is no way to just convert them.
im going to have to disagree with the iphone comparison. very very few iphone games are coded in xcode (iphone native code). theyre almost all written in java and are reasonably easy to convert but it isnt automatic so only the developer can make the new app.
as proof, EA converted a few of the top games to android really fast including sim city, bejewlled, tetris and monopoly to name a few.
i wont bother to link them since they arent commercially available and i dont know if they are considered warez or not.
but to find games outside the app store, do a google search for games with files named with the android extension .apk

thanks
alright thanks for the help but if u find any please post there here
Downloading .apk via PC
I was wondering if there was a way that we could download .apk files via my web browser on my pc.
The reason for this is not having the patience to wait until I got home to use wifi(Since I don't have a data plan).... I am in school the majority of the time, and the Market downloads are blocked by the school administration.
Thanks in advance.
Try my signature it has tons of apk files in there uploaded to mediafire, if you need anything added pm me.
Non market apps can be also found on SlideME.org
Try SAM to see them all and download to install with ease.
I want to "borrow" ePub books from the local library, but I really don't like the idea of installing dedicated DRM software on a PC and managing a local "library" of ebooks and THEN doing file transfers every time I want to load a title on the Nook.
It does seem as if an OverDrive app for Android was released
http://overdriveblogs.com/library/2...ps-for-iphone-and-android-now-support-ebooks/
"Now your customers will be able to download both EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks directly to their iPhone, iPod touch, or Android phone/tablet. New users can search for “OverDrive Media Console” in the Apple App Store and Android Market, while current users will be alerted to update the existing OverDrive app on their devices."
Is this working for anyone on the NC? Does it avoid entirely the need for PC involvement, and let you download library books directly to the Nook?
Any downsides, fallout from the DRM, or other issues to consider?
yes, it works! Obviously, you must be rooted. If you stay on the stock rom, it worked best for me if I kept the stock browser as "default", otherwise when you attempted to download a book, a different browser like dolphin would get confused and just display gibberish.
Overdrive works great on my nook. I use it all the time. It totallly eliminates the need for anything on your PC. The only thing I have seen is that it can be easier to search on the PC, though when I do that I just check out the books and download them on my nook.
Oh I issue you may have is that you will need to disable the time settings from provider. If you do not you will not be able to turn on the adobe dem feature. Enjoy, feel free to PM me if run into problems.

As a person who uses a browser to stream stuff as they browse it annoys the everliving hell out of me that no browser allows me to play flash when I'm not looking at it. Are there browsers that do allow flash to be played in the background? Or is it because I'm not using the android version of flash? (I'm using a custom version to allow hulu to play.) Is it CM7's fault?
If you can play flash in the background please tell me what browser you use, what kind of flash (market official or custom) and if you use cm7. I'm loving it over vegantab but ill go back if I have to...
Try dolphin browser

If you spend $800 on a moto xoom you will still have this problem. Go out and buy an ipad and you will still have this problem.
What you need is a multi-tasking rom. I think I've seen a video of that once. Can't remember what device.

While it may not be exactly what you want, you could use Pandora. I created a "Final Fantasy" channel and it played similar music as that site...and in the background, too.

Just download a second browser. Use one for browsing and the other for streaming.
Opera keeps flash playing when you are on other TABS in the browser at least. That is as good as it gets on android. Wait for windows 8...
I need the same except Uc,Brave,Firefox,X browsers.
So as the title states, I'm trying to take advantage of some of the killer deals being offered in the "new" Google Play Store. I downloaded Dead Space, Shadowgun, NOVA 2 and a few others.
The issue I seem to be having are with the more "graphically" intensive games, like the ones I previously mentioned, fully installing and or running on the device.
I suspect that the apps believe I'm using an iPad but I know others have been able to run these games from their Androidified Touchpad.
Was just curious if anyone knows a workaround or a solution on getting these games to install and/or run properly?
Thank You

No, the apps in the app store will never think your device is an iPad. Apps might look at the device's build.prop to determined compatibility. There is a modded build.prop you can download that changes the device to trick the market and apps that you're running a compatible device.
Samsung Captivate CM9 - Glitch Kernel | HP TouchPad CM9 - Bricked Kernel
Yeah, it's definitely not thinking you're on an iPad. However, it may be kind of similar since there is no official Android Touchpad, we have to mimic other devices. You may want to try the "rohan" update in the Dev section as it modifies parts of your build.prop. I was able to Shadowgun to download and start up. I still had problems with Dead Space, and havent' tried the Gameloft games yet.
I can confirm Dead space does NOT work with Rohan build prop on cm9 alpha 2. ShadowGun works great, its the best mobile game I've played, looks like gears of war on xbox360!!
I haven't been able to get any of the EA games to install (download additional files after market install). Tried with and without rohan mod. Nova 2 and Shadowgun work fine. Nova 2 was a kinda buggy
I also downloaded SHADOWGUN, NOVA 2, and DEAD SPACE. Shadowgun works fine on stock CM9 with no mods to build.prop...I tried to edit my build.prop and ended up having to restore a backup. if it does not work on CM9 i am thinking of loading my CM7 backup and editing the build.prop in there then update to CM9 with the games installed....dunno if it will work but might be worth a shot.
went off this link:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/7709-gameloft-compatibility-thread-with-working-version-s/
Edit:
CM7 with build.prop set to HTC Desire S allowed all GAMELOFT games to install and function (backstab, nova 2, and 9mm all work fine) DEADSPACE requires a 3g connection so i dont know how to get that going at all....
did HTC Desire S from info off this site:
http://www.everythingabouttablets.net/2012/01/02/get-asphalt-6-hd-running-on-your-cm7-touchpad/
I too can't get Dead Space to download the game data. I changed my build prop to 3 different devices, and nothing works. Bummer, I really wanted to play this game.
Funny that dead space works perfectly for me on cm9 a2. Guess I might have been lucky..

Dead space works fine on my stock tp running cm9 nightly 3/3 or 3/4
I finally got Dead Space working on mine. No matter what build.prop I would change it to, it would not download the game data. So I downloaded the data with my evo3d and then transferred it over. Working perfectly now.
Hi everyone. I am planning to buy a noble Hd but I live in Europe and I have a couple of questions.
Will I be able to fully use it or will i loose any features? I plan to istall cyanogenmod. I mainly need it to read so will i be able to insert ebooks and read them?
The most important is that need to read from the web.does the crome browser support article view?
Does it worth to buy it or not?will i have access to all android apps?
Thank you in advance!
If you install Cyanogenmod you will lose the Nook app store, which isn't a great loss. You will still be able to buy/read Nook books if you install the Nook app, but you will need to either find the apk or install the 1mobile app store, as the Play store will say the app is incompatible if you're running Cyanogenmod. CM11 (Android 4.4) will give you vastly better performance than the stock ROM, though, which is a heavily customized and somewhat locked down Android 4.1. As long as you install a gapps package you will have Play store access on CM. Play store and various Google apps are built into the latest stock ROMs, so either way you can have Play store access. If your books are DRM-free there are many choices for epub readers. I prefer Overdrive Media Console, Readmill and Play Books (note that while Overdrive and Readmill can load locally stored epubs, Play Books requires you to first upload the book you want to read to the Play Books site and then re-download the book through the app). Those are just my personal favorites, though; there are a ton of epub readers out there. Fabrik is also another outstanding epub reader, but I don't use it because it's very slow to load. If you are using the mobi format you can use the Amazon Kindle app. I can't tell you much of anything regarding the capabilities of the Chrome browser, as I prefer Opera or UC Browser, nor can I vouch for article view, as I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean exactly. You might investigate the Readability app if Chrome doesn't do it for you, but the capabilities are the same as any other Android phone or tablet, so if you have an Android phone you can test out Chrome in advance, before you buy the tablet.

Thank you for the immediate and full of content response. I am about to buy the Noble, I just have to check for the article view. It is actually a mode on mobile browsers witch remove all unnecessary content in order to read articles, opinions , actually anything written in the web.
Ah, well, that sounds pretty much like what Readability does. Like I said, I don't know if Chrome does that or not, but if it doesn't you should be able to share the page to Readability and then it'll do it.
Barnes and Noble in the US only ships within the US. You'd need to use a reshipping company to received the nook in the US and forward it to you. shipito.com will do this for about €35. Alternatively B&N's UK store currently has all Nook accessories for £5 (http://www.nook.com/gb/store/accessories). Again, if you're not in the UK you'll have to get it reshipped.
The latest Nook firmware doesn't have the Nook Browser, and it was this that had ArticleView. Anyway when you install CyanogenMod all the Nook apps will be removed, but you'll be able to install almost any Android app. As such you may want to ask the visually impaired community if there is an Android browser that fits the bill.
