If I root my phone, will I lose all of my apps/settings/wifi passwords and have to start over? If so, is there a way to backup data before I root? Thanks!

Rooting doesn't delete anything on your phone. Also, Google keeps all your apps and wifi passwords in the cloud. (as long as you have it setup that way)

That's the question. Update downloaded ok but I did not install it as I did not want to lose Root access. I have not seen anyone who used Geohot's Active Root to root their phone get the OTA installed.
I have a ton of stuff quarantined (what happens to them? Do they get released/un-quarantined?)
I have other programs that only work with root access such as Ti Backup and AdAway. Will they just cease to function?

You might want to be careful with that. From what I've read in the S4 forums after some unknown amount of time the update will install itself. The only known way to prevent it it to freeze wssync with Titanium Backup. If it never prompts you to install the update you're probably fine, but if it does I'd look into the TiBu option.
Following the 5.1.1 update I'm not able to receive messages on hangouts and snapchat won't load unless off wifi. Has anyone else had this problem or know a way to remedy it? Thanks!

did you wipe after updating?
No, What steps would you suggest for wiping. Trying not to lose all of my data if possible.

Well let me preface this by saying a phone like this with no SD card...you might as well get used to, occasionally, backing up your content on another device (external hard drive, computer, cloud, etc...) because sometimes you'll have to wipe to fix an issue.
That being said, I would back up anything important and then go to SETTINGS > BACKUP AND RESET > FACTORY DATA RESET
This method will wipe EVERYTHING on your phone, but it will fix 99.9% of software issues. It's worth trying. Plus it's always a good idea to do a factory reset after a major update.
I am contemplating giving up my root to update to 5.1.1. But I need some advice, on what apps I can use to backup and restore all my apps with app data without root. Also, what apps can I use to remove bloatware without root? These are my two main reasons for root. Thanks

There is no app that will remove bloatware without root. As far as backups go, your best bet would be helium backup,

I think your only option would be to go into application manager and just disable the things you don't want to use. However, there is a finite list of apps you can disable.
Dear experts,
After frimware update in August 2021 boldbeast recorder stop working. I would like to come back to frimware before August 2021.

you can backup all your data to SD card from Settings
This won't do copy 1to 1. Back in settings does not do back up like titanium backup. All app i will have to download and install. Apps which aren't in play store or cracked apps won't be install. Plus all internal settings in each app won't be safe. This backup in settings is useless.

Yes. then try Migrate app or Swift Backup. I think that's what you need.

Thank you for answer. Do those apps need root access? I have forgotten to mention apps need to work without root

Hello, I want to root by phone, but in order to do that, I need to unlock the bootloader. My question is : Is a google backup sufficient to restore phone to his previous state ?
Thanks by advance
Google can backup your sms messages, call logs, contacts (if u've synced them with ur gmail account), device settings, app information, so you can reinstall the apps automatically when u sign in again on a new phone or a the same phone, but rooted or with a new custom rom, without having to manually search up the apps on the play store and install them individually one-by-one (keep in mind that apps u've installed from sources other than the play store will need to be manually installed again), and your photos and videos (if u've enabled backup in google photos).
i frequently use it for custom rom hopping and find it more than sufficient
There is an alternative for the apps from others sources?

No you can't get a good backup if bootloader is locked.
Wait for unlock and in case of that all losr...and then you can root and install ... Backup whatever you want

My opinion:
Without unlocked bootloader you can't root. Without root you can't backup any app data or app settings.
Only backup of internal storage is possible if unrooted, means pictures, self stored files, downloads...
Some apps are able to make an own settings backup.
Google backup means naked apps, sms, contacts, some ui settings and wifi password.
That's it
The problem that you can't do a real backup without unlocked bootloader is the reason why I always unlock my smartphones before starting to really use it.
It is no problem not to root. Just unlock. All the other things are possible without data loss.
