As we all know, our Droid 3 camera seems to have a problem with blue tinted shots, also taking photos can sometimes take veeeery long. We are all waiting for an update.
I found out, that you can take photos with the "ok" button on the keyboard, especially long-pressing this button forces the camera to focus correctly, this makes it much more easy to take macro-photos.
What do you think?
The first time I tried it I got a FC, but it seems to be a little bit more stable using the OK button. Thanks for the tip!
Good to hear, you're welcome.
Thanks - trick works on XT860 4G (the Canadian variant). I can't get it to focus with long press (still takes a pic), but I guess this is due to continuous autofocus it does (I believe I enabled such thing somewhere in settings).
I wish they had the camera button left on the phone though.. Or maybe since camera takes crappy pics, they decided it is not worth placing button for it

works for me. interesting find. none of the other key combinations do anything, so it must have something to do with button focus in the app. the arrow keys didn't seem to change the focus, so that's a plus.
now if only there were a way to get the app to open faster. i wonder if you can force it into cached memory somehow.
Anyone else having a problem where they take a photo, and then it goes to the upper left to indicate that it was saved, but then when you go to retrieve the photo later its no longer there?
@ jediman
Haven't experienced this, did you change your storage location for the camera to sd card? If you have been doing some adb or plugging into computer the phone might need a restart to get proper access to the card again.

The camera has a poor quality, i am not happy with it. I wish i wouldn't have rooted so quikly, waiting for unroot to return phone. I was happy with my Dinc and might just get the Dinc 2.
You bought the phone for its camera??
I just use camera 360. The blue tint issue doesn't happen with flash like it does with stock camera app. Only thing about camera 360 is no ffc support yet.

as much as i like some of c360's features, there's alot that drives me not to use it. the "widescreen" mode stretches the image, you can't review that last pic taken (that i can tell), there's no video option and it appears at the top of the list in battery usage (92%!).
I've been using Camera ZOOM FX... it seems to take fairly decent photos, and is much faster than the normal camera app that comes with the phone.

Dear fellas,
Although this topic has been briefly discussed in various locations, it hasn't gotten "big" enough.
I know a number of ya guys are having this problem. The touch-sensitive action button used to focus does not focus the camera (and yes, I have set it to "touch & press").
Mine works intermittently, in fact, doesn't work most of the time. I know it's 100% not a hardware problem, as the button lights up and brightens up my screen according to normal behavior. Now I'm wondering, for those guys who don't have this problem, do U have a different version of the camera app?
K.. mine's the stock HK 1.93.831 ROM and my cam app is version 6.00 (build 31516).
I'm not sure what causes this problem. Although I'm not a camera freak, but this prob makes my baby "imperfect".
Pls post yr ROM and camera version (I wonder if there's a difference) and state if youre experiencing this problem. Thanks!
Hi MasK,
I'm having the same problem as you, the "touch & press" feature didn't work most of the time.
I'm using HTC SG ROM 1.37.871.3, camera version 6.0 (Build 31364).
I used to think the camera didn't focus properly until I took some time to play with it. It's pretty slow, but mine seems to work. When I touch the button, it will take anywhere from 1-5 seconds to focus, and then the cross-hair turns green and beeps to indicate focus lock. At first I didn't realize I needed to wait for the beep, so my shots were out of focus. Seems to work fine now that I know that.
I'm currently on stock 1.37.401.3 with camera 6.0 Build 31364 ... same as previous post, just a different ROM region, which I doubt makes a difference.
i have a similar problem where i run the camera app, then the 1st time i place my thumb over the button nothing happens, but if i take my thumb away and try again it will work fine.
It will continue working fine untill i restart the camera app, just never registers the 1st attempt.
This does show that there is some serious prob with this functionality. For me, it's the first time that has a higher chance of working.. not subsequently.
How abt the rest? We needa find out what's causing this!
upz...
Anymore ppl having this prob?
Same here. Most of the time, including 1st time also fails.
+1, most of the time I have to click on the button to do the focus + photo. When I just touch, the camera tries to focus but the square doesn't become green. Sometimes there's no white square at all.
Hi,
mine recognizes the first touch so it focuses correctly but after i take the picture, it doesn't focus anymore when i touch it. actually i just found out about this focus thing and tested. until now i always just pressed the button when trying to make pictures and it always makes a focus and then capture the image. is this OK or it makes them better if i first let him focus and then press the button all the way?
p.s. i do have "touch and press" selected.
p.s.2: is there any way i can change exposure time or something like that so my pictures won't get blurry when my hand shakes or something? many of my pictures are fuzzy because i don't really have a steady hand :-s
Best regards,
Florin

Yep that's how it works and I don't seem to be having problems, just tried doind a few shots and it works perfectly.
Everytime I touch the center button the white square appears and the camera does the autofocus until it turns green. Then I change the orientation and do the same again. I just did it 6 times in a row and the autofocus worked perfectly all the times.
I had this problem with all my previous ROMs.. I am now on Bepe's 0.96 which has the latest camera app and the problem is no longer there - I can touch and press to activate the autofocus as many times as I want after shooting as many photos as I want. No problems now.

Cool.. so it goes to show it's a pure firmware issue. I'm wondering perhaps it's due to registry tweakings that creates this problem.
Any more feedbacks?
Is there a difference in quality if it makes the focus on touch and picture on press versus focus and picture on press?

No difference in quality, however with the "touch-then-press" focus you see a focused picture on the display before taking the shot.
Mask,
Can you tell me what is the camera app version in Bepe's 0.96 Rom?
I just changed the camera capture setting to "press" rather then "touch and press".
Now all I have to do is point at what i want. Then just press the button down and it does all the auto focussing itself and then takes the pic.
Couldn't be easier.

I actually prefer the 'touch and press' option, because I might end up needing to re-adjust my position before taking the shot.. and having the 'touch' to autofocus, before 'press' to shoot allows me to do so.
@MasK: I don't think it's a firmware issue or related to registry tweaks, but more a issue related to the camera app - bepe noted that it was a newer version (thus you won't see the Resolution icon in the Settings anymore - you can still change the resolution via Advanced settings). You could ask bepe more about the camera app and whether he did any tweaking in regards to the camera.

Yeah I know what your saying, I tend to just point n click, let it auto-focus once clicked and take the pic. As long as I'm pointing at what I want and I'm as far zoomed in as I choose then it's fine. I'll take a load at a time and then just delete the unwanted ones later.
But none the less I think the general point is that everything should work!

Quite right. I do not see why HTC overlooked this problem. Seems to me that HTC rushed the release of the Diamond without going through more intense test phases.

Completely agree, it's plain to see now that the phone was rushed. I know for a fact that if I hadn't found this site and wasn't able to flash the thing with new ROMS and applications etc then I probably wouldn't of bought it.
In effect this site is doing the work that HTC should of done in the 1st place. We shouldn't be finding ways around their problems by simply saying "oh doing it this way doesn't bother me". It would of been nice to have the thing working smoothly from release.
But then again this is half the fun right? Mucking around with new ROMs and apps to set it up how each individiual likes.
I know that I would feel sorry for anyone with a brand new HTC Touch Diamond that is still at factory settings!
The one I am running now pisses on the phone it was 2 weeks ago
Title pretty much says it all. I went from the Titan on Sprint to Kaiser on At&T, and I hate the camera app. It's slow; unresponsive; takes shaky photos; and has no option (that I can seem to find) to turn off the sound effects.
Has anyone been able to get a different camera front end on the Kaiser? I would prefer a spin from something like the Titan; but really anything that fixes the above problems is good with me.
Thanks all!

Tried it on my Sprint HTC mogul, and it an caused error. I can open program and snap a picture... but it gives me the error of frame... so it can't save or open picture. I had HTC album as well.
I had to do hard reset to get my original camera back.
So which version of Camera is best and includes the ability Auto Focus, i know there is Low FPS problems and thats a hardware thing, but i just want to know the best version of camera available, Thanks
I will respond since no one else seems interested...
Ironically, I am using the default camera app right now (4.x I believe). I tried Nadavi's 5.0.4 for several months, and it seemed faster than 4.x, but I eventually realized that auto-focus was really crippled in that version as well (half-press of the button to focus, but full press causes a re-focus before the picture is taken, which always causes me to lose the shot).
Long story short, 4.x doesn't seem to have the problem, so I decided to stick with it for now. Plus it takes pictures at a decent speed when the lighting is adequate.
Short answer... you cannot expect a Hyundai to win a Nascar race. Sure it will drive around the track, and if you want to do 500 laps with it, no problem, but it ain't ever gonna be the right tool you need to win.
The camera on this phone sucks, it has serious limitations. If you want to take a picture of a significant event, bring a stand alone camera.
I agree with the previous poster, the default camera software is about as good as you can do.
I am with you about the half press and full press problem , but i get over it by making the option of taking the photo is press half press only and it work so well.. its auto focus then take a pic with no blur at all.. i am using this ver attached. so well in TYTN II .
also now i can take photos using the front camera with it .

I quite agree, but I need to mention that the camera on EVERY phone sucks. If you're buying a phone because of the camera, that's waste of money. You can't expect this tiny bit of lens (more than ten times smaller than the ones used in real cameras and of dubious quality) to produce anything but lousy images. The problem is not with the software, but with the CCD and the lens.
I have this phone for about 6 months and I haven't taken a single picture with it - I prefer my Pentax
hello guys..well i need some help here please..
i got a problem with my tytn 11.the camera is bugging after i flash with some xda roms.my problem is i cant use the 2nd camera.it seem the icon to change from main camera to 2nd camera suddenly disappear.so i cant use the front camera to snap pic and make v.call..sadly i doesnt know my stock roms.but i already flash my phone with some xda stock roms but it still the same.the front camera doesnt work..somebody please help mee
thank u man for you'r help
so It's my understanding the camera takes about a second to wake up..
How great is it at taking pictures of things in motion? I'm not asking for anything incredibly unrealistic but, I know that my captivate tends to have problems if something is moving or it's not a still shot which can be a little annoying..
So far I've had my T for a week and the camera is one of my biggest grievences.
It takes about a second for the screen to boot into the camera mode but then takes ages (sometimes 5-6 seconds) to focus properly before it takes the shot!!
It may just be that I need to tweak the settings but a feature that is boasted like this one you would think would work out of the box.
I'll post back after I've had another play.
Focussing takes longer if the light is low. The camera should focus pretty quick in the day time. Once my S3 comes back from surgery I'll compare if the speed of this camera bothers me. It hasn't yet, though.
Sent from my LT30p using Tapatalk 2
I have the S3.. The camera on it is much better than the xperia T on pretty much everything responsiveness \ motion capture \ night - low light conditions. Maybe its the xperia app that lacks something dont know..
Sent from my LT30p using xda premium
I find the camera focus to be a bit of a nuisance too but I find if I type on the screen where to focus the image it will sort itself out in maybe 2 seconds tops ready to snap the picture. It could be down to light conditions but my experiences with the cameras been okay.
From what I was expecting from Sony's advertising the camera is a let down. The app is nice to use and I love having the dedicated button. However focusing seems to be a bit hit or miss. Certainly compared to my old OneX. Hoping that it'll be improved with some software updates as the hardware should be quite decent?

I've been using the Xperia GX for 2 months now since it launched in the summer but it should be similiar to the T/TX (well, exactly the same as the TX)
Waking up / Firing up the camera quickly
If the camera process is not running it will take 5-6 seconds to start up.
If it is running, then it is much faster. When it is running in the background it does not consume a lot of resources (in particular it doesn't really impact battery life since that is the single worst part of the GX/TX)
Be sure to check your camera settings as well for the "Quick Launch" settings.
This has been seen on several Xperia devices but here's briefly how it works.
When the phone is asleep, you hold down the camera button. It takes about a half second for recognize the long press then will fire up and take the shot in less than another half second. You can change your setting to choose whether it does nothing, fires up the camera, or fires up the camera plus takes the shot.
If you use a screen unlock pattern, you will still take the photo and subsequent photos but you cannot go to view/share/etc the photo until completing the unlock. This is to both give you security while not stopping you from quickly taking photos.
Pictures of things in motion
I was surprised that it takes pictures very quickly with little shutter lag. The day after I got the phone, I went to climb Mount Fuji and was surprised I could take clear photos of the foliage whizzing by outside the bus window.
That being said, that only really works in well lit conditions.
In well lit conditions, it can focus quickly 150-400ms but like others have said, this is not the case in low light (or when the device starts to overheat or when bogged down with apps running and demanding wakelock).
If you use the quick capture feature, it will guess the focus and take the shot.

Change focus to infinite?
I have been suffering the camera on the Xperia T for too long now, with its slow shutter time, constant blurry pictures and the over the top compression just destroying the photos I take.
I am in the hunt for a fix. It looks like Sony wont be fixing it so I was wondering how people have got on with alternatives. I just randomly picked Camera MX out of the bunch available and with whacking all the settings up I was very happy with all the results. I even managed to get a decent photo out of the quick capture mode it come with I have never once managed that with the Sony camera software. This shows me that the XperiaT is hampered on software level not a hardware level.
What are other peoples experiences with alternatives?
IMHO sony stock camera is the best there is.
I have never had a problem with it.

Guys do you use the hardware button or the touchscreen? Starting to wonder if the process of my pressing the hardware button is what is causing most of my issues. Might try for the weekend just using the onscreen capture button/touch capture settings. I just notice there is some delay in taking the photo once pressing the hardware button.
I have managed to capture some killer photos with my T just getting fed up of having to take about 5 consecutive pictures to get one decent blurry one.
I find that I sometimes get motion blur when using the camera hardware button in low light due to a slight moving of the camera when pressing the button. This can happen to me even when being very careful. I have found that using the onscreen button results in considerably less accidental movement since the shutter snaps when removing the finger from the screen button. BTW, this allows you to focus, re-compose, and snap just like the physical button does.
IMO, I think the best use of the physical button is launching the camera from sleep, not taking pictures.
