hello
a friend of mine decided to go swimming with his cappy in his pocket, i let it sit for about a month now i just tried turning it on and it just sits at the att boot screen. i can not get to recovery but i can still access download mod. i flashed jf6 stock back onto it. and still sits on the att boot screen... what do i need to buy to get this working again?? thanks in avance
man, if its water damaged, i really doubt it can be saved, but it sounds like its the kernel based on what very little i know.
General rule of thumb:
large amounts of water+delicate electronics=bad news.
Sorry to say I think your friends device is toast

if u r a techie then try to open the phone and clen the mother board and blow some hot air using hair drier...
or if u not a techie then put the phone in jar full of rice...and leave it for a day or 2..and try reflashin..
coz u mentioned that u can get into recovery and odin is recognizin ur phone when u tried flashin to stock..so seems that some issue with internal sd connectivity because of water..
If there's moisture on the screen still you can try what Killer_raj said to try and dry it out, if it's all dry then what Kanji26 said is most likely the case and your friend has a new dive toy for the kids to fetch off the bottom of the pool.
If its been sitting with water damage for a month...probably corrosion has gotten to it.

Well....this is what i did guys. I opened phone up and took everything apart and had quite a bit of corrosion.took rubbing alcohol and q-tips and cleaned everything up the best i could hoping the alcohol would evaporate any water left. Put everything back together and fired phone up and bam went straight into recovery.shut phone off download mode and flashed a kernel with cwm and flashed apex 9.2 . Screen is fine with no moisture only problem is when i enable wifi i get a soft reboot but everything else works.

Wow that is amazing it's there anything our cappys can't do cuz I just added swimming to the list
Running Dlevs 5.0, and latest talon kernel, modem KC1
glad to hear that all worked out. i was going to post the other day that you may just need to clean the phone again as there may still be corrosion but you got it. And i will also be adding swimming to a list of things the cappy can do just to irritate people that pick on my poor phone
And...... The wifi stopped working again i think the wifi is just shot. Ive tried a bunch of different kernels and roms the wifi just errors out after scanning for 20+ seconds. Thoughts??

When I using Continuum v5.5 rom without JVO_Light_Fix, the 4 button lights just light up when I touch it, and just sometimes when the 4 button lights are up the 'back' button do itself without any acting.
But when I using Continuum V5.5 with JVO_Light_Fix or v5.6 with light fixed already, 4 button lights always up when i touch the screen, soo the 'back' button more often goes crazy, the 'back' button does 'back' itself many times, sometimes it does 'back' in non-stop until i touch it or the other button.
So I much using Con V5.5 without light fix to avoid it. I dont know if there are any way how to fix it?
Have anyone meet my situation?
I also have the same problem, went back to stock and wiped everything reloaded gb bootloaders talon kernal and continuum 5.6 problem still persists just not as bad. I didnt really try it out and see if it was ok on stock though im a big dummy ,batch is a 1010

I went through 2 Captivates that had this same issue last year and my research then concluded it was faulty hardware. I'd suggest trying to see if you can get a replacement one
If anybody is still having problems with buttons going crazy i fixed mine by flashing back to stock 2.2 with the pit file through heimdall and then went back to custom rom. fixed all my problems

Try going to the thread i posted and use heimdall with the repartition enable i flashed back to jf6 lots of times and it never fixed it,till i tried this.

I shall try.
Thanks.
Could be a software or a hardware problem...
I'd first try to flash back to stock (bootloaders, rom, kernel, repartition, everything), then see if that helps.
Also, on my Captivate at least, sometimes the capacitive buttons will get a little wonky if there is moisture trapped underneath the glass. Occasionally if I leave my phone in the bathroom while I take a shower, or in my pocket when it's extremely humid out and I'm sweaty, the buttons will act up for a while. Simplest solution is to put the Captivate in a bag full of rice and let it sit there for at least a few hours.
If all else fails, you probably need a hardware replacement.
That's my $0.02.
Nope a hardware problem but not bad. I get it when humidity is bad or my captivate is around a lot of moisture. Throw it in a bag of rice for a couple of nights and that should help.

Im wondering on which modem to use. As i can see, they have included KC1, but im running JL2... Any advice on this if im going to try Heimdall?
kc1 is a good overall modem try it and see. you can always flash a new one later!
i suffered from a similar problem, but it only seems to occur on samsung ROMs, not MIUI
For what it's worth, I was having a similar issue that I thought was faulty hardware. On a whim I removed and reapplied my screen protector. The issue has since gone away.
Might be worth a go if you use one too.

Interesting thought. I am fairly confident that it is a moisture problem. Did everyone ignore my earlier suggestion?
as I am typing this my search button is flipping it and clicking. When I put it in a bag if rice it reduces the frequency by magnitudes.

Odin with master clear. I have had the back button flicker and ghost pressing on firefly, cm7, mosaic, atomicfusion, and stock just to name a few. I highly doubt my issue is software related.
Sometimes it will not happen for a week and other times daily. I faber replaced the screen protector but no help.....when it happens bad I throw it in rice at night for a couple of days and it solves my problem completely.

My Galaxy S froze today, as I reset it by taking the batt off, it would get past the loading Galaxy S screen.
I cannot get it either into recovery or download mode, i have tried every combo you can, dropped batt and in whilst holding buttons, I have tried inserting pc usb whilst doing the same, surely if its loading its recoverable, not sure about this jig thing??
Would rather fix it now!
Pls help guys n gals
Some phones didn't have recovery or download mode working from factory. Mine was like that but applied a fix just in case to avoid any future problems such as yours.
Seems like a jig is your only hope now. They go pretty cheap on eBay but if you can't wait then you can make one youself if you know how.
Good luck!

Since this is the OP's first post, it might be a good idea to include a link to where ADB is explained.
Anyway, go to this post and then go to section 3.

The jig is cheap on eBay. I was hesitant of getting one when I was on eClair, but it has worked each and every time that I've used it.
Just find a seller that has sold a few with positive feedback, but yeah I got into download mode no problem using it where I was "totally locked out" before like where you are at...

Ignore the jig options because it is stupid and the adb option is better and easy! Search it to activate download and recovery then flash a gingerbread rom then galnet, you'll then wanna make sweet love to your galaxy

I was in the same situation a year ago, I couldn't make jig and it would take a nother day so I did the following:
Took a hairdryer , took the batt out of the phone, and used the hairdryer on the phones back(where the batt should be), then I think I placed the batt back, and applied the hairdryer again and it went into download mode !
If this doesn't work, just make or get a JIG, if you don't trust it , take ya phone to a Samsung Service Center (I'm lucky there's one 10km from my house)
Good luck !

+1 for ADB method, JIG is fine too but it's unnecessary if your PC can detect the phone when plugged in through the USB port, plus the JIG takes time to ship
dude!! i made a JIG in 10 mins!!
And ADB method takes less than a minute, plus, not everyone has resistors lying around the house.

Hello all.
I have a Cricket Kyocera Zio M600 phone and it fell into water today, I immediately took it out, wiped it down and did the stupid thing that you're NOT supposed to do after a phone gets wet and turned it back on and it was working fine for about 4 hours. My buttons started acting up on me so I turned the phone off however, when I turn it back on it automatically goes to a black screen and says "FOTA update modem...0............................100%" and flashes on and off with that same message. Is the phone broke or is there something I can do to fix it?
I recommend running the leaked cricket Zio 2.2.1 windows updater.

yes, but before doing that pull the battery and let the phone dry out for 48 hours, from what you described it seems like the water inside of it may be shorting out the buttons and is causing it to go into Modem download mode.
Yeah, definitely let that thing dry... get a Ziploc bag and put your phone in there with enough rice so that the phone is buried in the rice. It will draw most of the moisture out of the phone within about a day.

I recommend using silica crystals, it's used as the good kinds of kitty litter (think PetCo), and the same exact sold at high-end phone stores for exactly this kind of thing, albiet for 5x more.

Did you let it dry out either in in a bag with some rice or with desiccant? Works quite well.
Otherwise, I have put the oven on low and put it in there (on something) or in a dehydrator. Just be sure to remove the battery first.
If there's any moisture still in it, it likely is shorting it out.
Are the water stickers red? You could always warranty it if not.

Just thought i would share a really hopefull story... my sister had a samsung jack windows mobile phone... she went swimming for 10 min before she realized it was in her pocket... hadnt taken it apart or turned it off or anything... got home and everything minus two keyboard buttons was functional... you could see water sloshing back and forth in the screen and it was fine... finally put it in rice and it dried out and still worked fine... another friend uses it now.... haha... there is still hope.. haha

So I missplaced my ace, and found it in a small pool of water ringing... First thing, got the battery out, wiped it, unscrew it, luckly no waterinside, just on the charging port, wiped the water, left it for a day, then tried it, every thing working, but not charging, the charger port was opened so water entered the port, now i tried to wipe the port with parfume and it charges, but some times doesn't charge, should i wipe with more parfume? or wait afther the holidays to find a working service gsm? Can parfume harm it? I used it for the alcohool to clean it...
I'm waiting for your answers, thank you who ever want's to help.
Now it works fine, it charges every time i plug it it, is the problem solved, or should i go with it at the gsm services?
It takes some time for water to evaporate completly. It is very likely that your problem is already solved
