Hello all.
I have a Cricket Kyocera Zio M600 phone and it fell into water today, I immediately took it out, wiped it down and did the stupid thing that you're NOT supposed to do after a phone gets wet and turned it back on and it was working fine for about 4 hours. My buttons started acting up on me so I turned the phone off however, when I turn it back on it automatically goes to a black screen and says "FOTA update modem...0............................100%" and flashes on and off with that same message. Is the phone broke or is there something I can do to fix it?
I recommend running the leaked cricket Zio 2.2.1 windows updater.

yes, but before doing that pull the battery and let the phone dry out for 48 hours, from what you described it seems like the water inside of it may be shorting out the buttons and is causing it to go into Modem download mode.
Yeah, definitely let that thing dry... get a Ziploc bag and put your phone in there with enough rice so that the phone is buried in the rice. It will draw most of the moisture out of the phone within about a day.

I recommend using silica crystals, it's used as the good kinds of kitty litter (think PetCo), and the same exact sold at high-end phone stores for exactly this kind of thing, albiet for 5x more.

hello
a friend of mine decided to go swimming with his cappy in his pocket, i let it sit for about a month now i just tried turning it on and it just sits at the att boot screen. i can not get to recovery but i can still access download mod. i flashed jf6 stock back onto it. and still sits on the att boot screen... what do i need to buy to get this working again?? thanks in avance
man, if its water damaged, i really doubt it can be saved, but it sounds like its the kernel based on what very little i know.
General rule of thumb:
large amounts of water+delicate electronics=bad news.
Sorry to say I think your friends device is toast

if u r a techie then try to open the phone and clen the mother board and blow some hot air using hair drier...
or if u not a techie then put the phone in jar full of rice...and leave it for a day or 2..and try reflashin..
coz u mentioned that u can get into recovery and odin is recognizin ur phone when u tried flashin to stock..so seems that some issue with internal sd connectivity because of water..
If there's moisture on the screen still you can try what Killer_raj said to try and dry it out, if it's all dry then what Kanji26 said is most likely the case and your friend has a new dive toy for the kids to fetch off the bottom of the pool.
If its been sitting with water damage for a month...probably corrosion has gotten to it.

Well....this is what i did guys. I opened phone up and took everything apart and had quite a bit of corrosion.took rubbing alcohol and q-tips and cleaned everything up the best i could hoping the alcohol would evaporate any water left. Put everything back together and fired phone up and bam went straight into recovery.shut phone off download mode and flashed a kernel with cwm and flashed apex 9.2 . Screen is fine with no moisture only problem is when i enable wifi i get a soft reboot but everything else works.

Wow that is amazing it's there anything our cappys can't do cuz I just added swimming to the list
Running Dlevs 5.0, and latest talon kernel, modem KC1
glad to hear that all worked out. i was going to post the other day that you may just need to clean the phone again as there may still be corrosion but you got it. And i will also be adding swimming to a list of things the cappy can do just to irritate people that pick on my poor phone
And...... The wifi stopped working again i think the wifi is just shot. Ive tried a bunch of different kernels and roms the wifi just errors out after scanning for 20+ seconds. Thoughts??

Did you let it dry out either in in a bag with some rice or with desiccant? Works quite well.
Otherwise, I have put the oven on low and put it in there (on something) or in a dehydrator. Just be sure to remove the battery first.
If there's any moisture still in it, it likely is shorting it out.
Are the water stickers red? You could always warranty it if not.

Just thought i would share a really hopefull story... my sister had a samsung jack windows mobile phone... she went swimming for 10 min before she realized it was in her pocket... hadnt taken it apart or turned it off or anything... got home and everything minus two keyboard buttons was functional... you could see water sloshing back and forth in the screen and it was fine... finally put it in rice and it dried out and still worked fine... another friend uses it now.... haha... there is still hope.. haha

Yes that's right my less than 24 hour old one is broken. There is a hairline crack that runs from home button to heaphone jack. By the home button there is another small crack too.
The phone was not dopped at all and has been in otterbox commuter, and pretty bc much in my hands all day. I was holding the phone and all of the sudden it cracked. I'm really just at a loss for words and dumbfounded at how this happened.

I understand it sounds ridiculous, I ran a phone store for many years and heard stories and saw things I wish I didn't. One guy hands me his phone said it doesn't work, I asked if it got wet and he tells me that his cow ate it and then threw it back up again. We go through a lot of purell. I've never had someone tell me it just broke while holding it and trying to take a screen shot, but that's what happened.
I love the phone, it was running without hiccups all day. I don't want a different phone, but I don't want to be looking at a long road of replacements either and I think most of us can agree on that, so I had to share my experience.

The way the crack is so hairline and straight it does seem believable some freak pressure point could have caused this. I have a good feeling we won't be seeing any more of these stories though =P

That's not a crack in the screen. It looks like a line of pixels went out. Who's replacing it for you? Sprint? Walk into a store and tell them this happened out of nowhere. If you're still within 14 days, they have to replace it.

It is the internal LCD that is broken, not the outer glass. Sprint is giving me a fight but they will replace it, just sucks waiting and getting the run around. The more I use the phone the worse it's getting.

From the picks it doesn't look physically broken at all, it looks like, what someone else said, like a strip of pixels died. So, that could be a bad flex cable or a screen defect. maybe the otterbox was warping the phone? was it a snug fit?
I hate to be that guy, but I'll be the second story of "my screen actually did break and I have no idea how".
I will admit, the phone did take a drop off a couch on to tile; but no screen damage was done, just a slight scuff on the landing zone. That was 2 days ago.
Yesterday i'm out with some friends, doing some gardening at his place, and I pull out my phone and there's a hairline crack from the volume buttons to the home button, I'll update with a picture when I find my camera. And now today, when i woke up, I was using my phone and noticed some stuck pixles on the middle top of the screen. I bought the phone on the third and I'm not sure if this kind of thing should be covered or not; if it's even worht calling or going into sprint?
EDIT: LINK TO ALBUM HERE
I couldn't get the pixle since they are so damn small and i don't have a macro lens for the camera.
I don't even know how it could have happend while it was in my pocket or from the fall(last picture) since it wasn't broken at all that day.
I reveretd to stock rom without SU but we cannot removed the tamper markings if i contact sprint what do i do about that?
I am going to agree and say that is a pixel issue. Glass does not crack like that or a LCD screen unless it is intentionally scored.

this is what I was going to say... I wonder if the case put some kind of pressure on the phone that damaged it or messed with the ribbon cable? or just bad QC
Last night I forgot to charge my phone, so I plugged it in on the way to work and notice the charge light went out on the phone and when I checked the plug to see if it came out out was hot and melting. When I got to the job I plugged it in with a wall charger thinking the car charger went bad and it was doing the same thing. I figured I'll turn the phone off to save my battery to transfer stuff to the computer when I get home to take it to sprint, I decided to try it again while it was off and now it's not doing it even now I turned the phone back on.
In running the latest 42one rom no custom kernel, I guess whatever was going on isn't happening because it rebooted now.
Anyone ever experience this issue, now I'm afraid to leave it plugged in when I go to bed if it happens again, there isn't no point in taking it to sprint because I'm not able to show them what was happening.

I actually did have this happen to me. It was serve melting but it was extremely hot to where it was uncomfortable to touch. I reported it to HTC got a new charger and all has been well since. I was running Bad Boyz and have no idea what the heck happened. I had it charging over night. I'll find the wall piece and upload a pic in the am to show. Hopefully the damage will show well.

I don't get it?
The OP probably was using the OEM charger, so I think this is a rarity, but a word of caution to everyone: Not all USB chargers are made the same. You should only use high quality OEM charges for your phones, there's no reason to have a fire hazard to save a couple bucks on a charger.
This happened to me a couple of days. I got to work and plugged it in as usual. After a few minutes i noticed the red light went out. I noticed the bottom of the phone was really warm so i unplugged it and the tip of the charger burnt the crap out of my fingers.
I tried other charges and they didn't work and my Mophie won't charge my phone anymore so just like the OP, I ran a Nandroid back-up along with a Titanium back-up preparing to have to swap it out and then having to worry about getting it s-off'd.
As of today, it's charging with another charger but i did scrape the charging port with a needle because it looked like it might have had some char on it.
Fingers crossed!

Most likely a bad rectifier that's allowing some noise on the (what should be) clean DC.
Dirty DC will cause all sorts of ugly on a digital device.

I had a similar problem with my first One. I was charging it on a crappy work computer, and one of the points got zapped. I could still charge my phone from a plug-in, but it wouldn't connect to any computer. $50 later (thanks Sprint), I had a brand new phone. That I may or may not have promptly bricked.
