[Q] video calling using just 3g and no application - HTC Incredible S

Is it possible for someone to develop a ROM that supports video calling on 3g without any application... Just using my service providers video calling service?
Or any modification to stock ROM?
thank you....

That sounds impossible, correct me if I'm wrong but even the ability to call (dialer) IS an app
What you're asking sounds impossible

That's a little bit too literal..
I think OP meant no Third-Party Apps.
Just using the built-in dialer app.
I think it should be possible to re-create the dialer .apk, but I'm inclined to believe that it's pretty hard.
Good luck though!

In my old HTC diamond this feature was there but then there was no 3g. Now we have 3g but this feature has been withdrawn. I don't know what's the logic.
I agree this should be default in every phone.
Anyone has any update?

Ahh I see, still.. that probably wouldn't be too easy to do. (Although I think they could probably manage it.. however coming from the nexus one/incredible s and now the atrix.. I've never seen someone do something big like this on xda yet!) so probably possible but is it likely? I don't think so!

Don't own one but I guess galaxy phones support this feature right? Even symbian... Just saying... I had a Samsung wave earlier and it had touchwiz... And supported direct video calling based on my 3G network....
Sent from my Incredible S using Tapatalk

It's bizarre how there's no 3G video call solution anymore on HTC phones. I used to call my girlfriend on her LG phone and mine was an old Nokia 6700 Slide (running different operating systems) and it worked fine, albeit pretty blocky picture quality.

I think Sammy phones can do a lot more just because of their proprietary file system.
It's like touchwiz on older phones is just bada OS with Android compatibility hacked in (galaxy s were supposed to be bada OS until Android caught on). At least that's the explanation I've heard. I believe it 100%, because when I had a vibrant all the roms HAD to be based off of touchwiz somehow or another, except for cm7, and cm7 just as bad as android ports to Windows phones, so it seemed like an 'Android port' to me
Sorry for rambling haha

i thought will have 3G Call direct from this phone..

my question is why is it important to you guys not to use an application?

Is it possible that HTC and/or Google doesn't want a law-suit on a patent infringement from apple?

US LGX2 come with AOSP 2.2.1 froyo or Gingerbread?

Hello, is US version of LGX2 come with AOSP Froyo or Gingerbread or LG own software like TouchWiz or sense etc...?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I believe it will be 2.2.1 stock AOSP. It will look similar to current G2 by HTC. It might have some Tmo apps like WiFi calling, MobiTv and some others. But maily it will be clean and free of bloatware from LG.

They have some specs and possibly all features listed on their website (coming soon..). Notably absent is WiFi calling. Wonder, if not, could the app be "lifted' from another ROM by XDA? Also, will it be compatible with the hardware setup?
That could be a deal killer for me otherwise - I use WiFi calling most of the time from home office, as WiFi is always on thanks to TMo US data cap.
It seems like on most tmo phones, the wifi calling is delivered over an ota update soon after release..
One more question guys, does the phone comes unlock US version?

Thanks guys, I have one more questions cause I don't want to create another thread. Is LG easier to port Sense? Since its on froyo? Cause SamSux use different file system and it's a ***** to port Sense. Galaxy S series, 4G, Nexus S only AOSP rom like CM7, Miui etc but not Sense. Is LG the same like Samsux?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Probably 2.2.x judging from all the press shots with the fugly default pre-Gingerbread status bar.
Sense can't be ported to non-Neon GPU's like Tegra2 until HTC or someone else rewrites the whole thing. Get LauncherPro Plus.

Thanks, I just ask in the Evo 4G thread there is no way to port Sense to LG or Samsung due to htc close source.
I guess I'll be waiting on htc so I can have both worlds AOSP cm7, Miui and Sense ui.

Skype 2.0 for Froyo

Does anyone know how to modify the OS to report that the phones one of the very poor selection the lazy people at skype could be bothered to make it work with?
Or would it require a mod to the app itself (same question who knows how to do this?)
Thanks in advance
Maybe modifying the build.prop? Just a guess!

Yep. Can confirm. Crashes a couple of seconds after you hit Sign in.
The problem is that the contained native code .so's seem to contain NEON instructions which the Tegra 2 can't execute.

If everyone took that attitude, XDA forums and the like wouldn't exist because we'd all be sat waiting for HTC / LG / Skype etc to update software...
These forums exist because the developer community can usually make things work better than the software vendors or before the software vendors.
This has already been hacked to work on the Galaxy S and S2.......

[APP][MOD]Skype 2.0 Video Mod to work with Epic4G! (Mobile to Comp)

Skype For Android Gets Video
Widespread 3G and cheap Wi-Fi routers have made video calling popular. This has helped applications such as Fring get millions of users in very little time. To catch up with the competition, Skype has now released its version 2.0, capable of video chat for Android.
Right now, Skype 2.0 will only work on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices with front-facing cameras. The list of compatible devices includes the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, and the Google Nexus S. The company is also working on a plan to cover devices that have currently been left out. The application will work with Wi-Fi as well as 3G. It reportedly supports PC-to-mobile calls, which gives it an edge over the competition. According to Skype, the app also features a completely revamped UI.
If you happen to have a Gingerbread device, download Skype 2.0 here (see original article for link) . Otherwise, check out the following video.

Voice Dialer Replacement

When I upgraded to ICS, I (and everyone else) lost the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. See the Vivid General forum for details on this. I tried Vlingo, and it worked okay most of the time, but it required a lot of steps. So, I tried Cyberon Voice Commander and was pleased with how well it worked and how closely it matched the original voice dialer when connected to my car's audio system via bluetooth. See my post for more details.

There may be other apps that work, so I am not saying this is the only one.

Yes, I saw posts on that. However, because of all the "crash and burn" posts from people trying to install custom ROMs, I think I'm going to wait a while. There is still too much transition right now between GB and ICS, and with S-Off possibly coming "soon."
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That is due to people not understanding the process of flashing a ROM, kernel, etc. There are video guides, written directions, and people who can help to flash correctly. It is real simple if you read and know what to do.

No issues here, although I have posted a lot to help others who are having trouble! I can understand how with limited knowledge it can be scary to root your phone, flash a rom, etc. but only if you didn't read up on what you are doing and rush through the steps. Before I got this phone I read about the steps and then when I got it felt comfortable and did everything. I know enough now that if something did happen I could get out of the problem without help.
To each his own IMO, if he wants to wait its the choice he's made ... But I do believe that myself , MEGATRON and most of WC'S illegitimate children could update h-boot or flash a new Rom blindfolded or heavily intoxicated lol, its gotten that easy
I've flashed the phone two times, unlocked and rooted. It has become much easier. I frankly don't want to set the phone up again.
Also, with custom ROMs you usually trade one problem for another. They usually aren't perfect.
BTW, thanks megatronisabeast for all your help to others.

I hate to grave dig old topics but this is really bugging me. Again, I have stock ICS so dialed in. I am trying to avoid flashing.

Thanks.
Hey frustrated voice dialing crew!
Last night I stumbled upon Voice Control by Luka Kama. There's a free version called Voice Control Test.
Its contact recognition is pretty accurate. It can also do voice to text. For me, the downside is it tries to do too much. It is expanding to Siri-like functionality which I find pointless. It also has a LED graphic like Knight Rider's KITT which is retro-wierd.
+1 for the Knight Rider reference

I was wondering the same...
I don't see the "button" for video calls but, if the phone have a frontal camera it will be for that, right?
Here in "white africa", Poland (sorry to people of Africa...), I can't do video call because that technology didn't arrived here yet...
In Portugal and Italy I start to do video calls since 2003 or 2005 (now I don't remeber very well), ages ago, here I can't even change the basic settings by phone commands.
When I type *111# in the most part of the countries I have access to a few options from the network provider, here is "unknown command"...
But back to the question, how to do video calls with O4X ?
Skype. Is one of the apps u can video call with.

Tango, Google Talk, those are a few other apps and there are more in the app. Store if u can't find any that won't work then that is really something the phone can't change. I mean one of them should work. U also can use fring or nimbuzz. And people can easily sign up for Skype. It's free.

I believe all android phones (probably all smartphones as well but as I don't own any others, I don't know) are incapable of video calling natively. I remember asking this question when I had my old phone (a motorola milestone) and searching the forums a while back. I doubt it will be implemented in the future but that's just me.

Being like that technology is going backwards... This is a phone and is supposed to make calls and video calls! If I want to use Skype, messenger or other, I use a computer or a pad (cause it's meant to be something between a computer and a phone), but a phone should have a phone function before any other.

from skype you're able to call to any mobiles and landlines network... and sometimes it can be even cheaper
Well it is really then the other people's issue to not having an smartphone or just signing up for Skype tango Google chat and so they are all free to use. So it isn't really android or lg fault. If people don't have it then that is really there issue. I know that I can use a lot of apps to enter in a video chat, I'm talking about VIDEO CALL!!! Or to explain myself better, in a video phone call!!!

Since a lot of years ago that operators, Wind in Italy, Optimus and all others in Portugal and a lot of others in other countries offer the video call.
Just need a phone with UMTS, don't need to be a "smart" phone, and the soo much advanced android can't provide that???
Is not an issue of who don't have an android, because they have the possibility to do video call. It's mine, cause even having a f*cking expensive phone, in video calls (not video chat!!!) its useless.
I accept because I don't have other choice.
And it doesn't matter windows phone 7.5 or 8 can't iphone can't of the operating systems just do video calls without dedicated apps period. It has been like that all the time. As long as there has been phones with front camera I can't recall that they were able to just video call if u don't have a camera and dictated app. And u still can do Internet calls. For what I was able to know, android don't have that option.
Its not a problem cause I have the LG GC900, much better camera and I can do video calls like I do normal phone calls.
The difference is that I need to chose the button from the middle I select the one from the left, in contacts I can choose, voice call, send sms or video call...
Maybe one day android start to use that too.
