[Q] Bootloop after copying apps back to system/app - Motorola Droid 3

boots upto droid sound and then keeps repeating. I feel an idiot. What can I do?

Did you ever get this resolved? I am in the same place :-(

If your /system/app is pure, you could install the pulled OTA update.

its unfortunately not, I tried to copy some APK's back that id deleted through root explorer

yeh tried BP Tools as well. factory reset so USB debugging would be disabled... is there any other way to use adb? any way to enable debugging?

if u use bp tools I heard it enables adb. I test drived this today and I was able to get adb using the bp tools method even though im not bootlooping or anything

Cant get out of safe mode!! help!!

Ive tried everything from factory reset to rebooting to removing the battery, I dont understand why my HTC Hero is in safe mode i havent downloaded any apps all i have done is tried to root my phone. I followed all the steps and got all the way to the "UNREVOKED" in the command prompt but i didnt get the "superuser permission" app in my app tray and im thinking its because the phone is in safe mode, anyone got answers about this that could help me out?
Mine was in safe mode after rooting 2.1 as well. I rebooted and it went back to normal. Then again, I notice that you haven't gained root yet. Running Unrevoked should have installed the SU app. If it didn't, I would try running the program again. Other than that, you haven't done anything that will corrupt the system, so I would still reboot and try the whole process again.
Im trying to root it now and everytime i go through the process im not getting the SU app in my app tray, anything you can think of that im missing?

Need help unrooting!!!!

Please help!!! My charger port broke and I need to unroot to take it to Cellular South to see if they can fix it. I am running CM 6.1 and I rooted with Z4root. I saved it on my phone with Titanium Backup. When I click on it all it says is root. Well i figured if I try to reroot it, it will recognize that I am already rooted and then give me the option to unroot but all it does is reboots and reinstalls the current ROM. When I go back to Z4root it says the same thing, root. I also was going to get the original RUU from Cell South but I can't hook my phone up to the computer to finish the process cause of my charger port is broken. Please help me!!! If I failed to give you all the info you need, let me know and I will give you the missing info. Thanks in advance!!!
have your tried running the ruu through adb using adb wireless?
How do you do that?
I downloaded the RUU from Cell South and tried to install it from recovery mode but it just went back to the current ROM again.
there is a progam called adb wireless.... havent done any of this myself but i would guess its the same as running the ruu in adb connected through usb.
check here for ruu commands in adb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688820 the app is in market i do believe
hope i not confusing you or leading you down the wrong path but is just an idea you can try

You don't run an RUU from recovery, or from the phone at all.
Do you have fast boot working??? If so there's a zip you can flash from h boot to return to stock.

I downloaded the adb wireless but not sure what to do with it.

Isn't fast boot where I press and hold power button and volume up? If so then yes it works but not sure how to use it. The only thing I use it for is when is says (menu) Recovery. I use it to send me to recovery mode sometimes.

What is this androidsdk I keep hearing about? I actually got help rooting with the good folks from phandroid forums. Maybe y'all use this androidsdk in your rooting method and Phandroid does not and I'm missing that and that us why I can't figure out what y'all are talking about. Just thinking...
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Give me a sec to boot up I'll post you some links on how to get the android sdk. Adb wireless wont work without it. I've never used that app so not sure on how it works. And fast boot is when you have s-off. When you hold your volume down and power before you hit the button for recovery it will say in the top left hand corner or right, if you have s-off or s-on. To use fast boot you have to have s-off.
Something.About.Me.U.Dont.Like.

I just checked and it says S-on.

I would recommend superoneclick by CLShortfuse for the actual rooting. Works great, and you can enable non market apps with the same program. One note, in the top right of the box that opens, you will have to choose either "psneuter" or "rage...cage". I think most people choose the rage option, but psneuter is chosen by default.

Root OF /sdcard, it means the main directory ... Not in any folders.
So I put it on the internal sd(no a folder) then boot in to recovery and just re-install packages. Done

Are you on 2.2? If so then no, its not digitally signed for 3e recovery ... Look up in TRusselo's signature he has a link for getting passed that ... If on 2.1 you are good.

New method found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19390207#post19390207
If you run this and it doesn't root you try wiping data from Setting>privacy and wipe the internal storage as well. I did that and it worked for me. Granted I didn't try this method without wiping my internal. If nothing else it cleans it up for you.

Ok, so whatever changes you made ... it seems to work better in a virtual windows environment
Before it would get stuck at "daemon started succesfully"
now it goes through to "Installing Root Tools..."
but then I get a string of error messeages
either "device offline" or "device not found"
then "cleaning up" ... device not found
then "rebooting" ...device not found
then it freezes
when I unplug my device or toggle debugging mode it continues to say "root complete"
.... so close.
So If I'm rooted on Z4? then I still need to unroot and upgrade to Z6 for this to work?
Thanks a lot man for such this easy one-click-root tool.

[Q] Bricked?

I was attempting to work through applying the .218 update to my droid 4. It was giving me a system validation error while when it was running in recovery. I found a thread that stated I needed to replace the apks and odex's as well as the build.prop. I didn't read it carefully enough as it said to replace *THE* problem ones. My validation error was on the build.prop file, I think.
In any case, I was using root explorer to copy *ALL* the files from a base zip file's app folder into the /system/app folder. Things were going along fine, until the phone app forced closed, then the phone rebooted.
Now I'm boot looping.
What can I do? I don't have any safe straps.
Can't access safestrap? Stock recovery? Adb services?

I don't have safestrap installed on the device, and I've never used it. I don't think that's an option, unless you have something up your sleeve there
As for Stock recovery, I'd love to give it a try, but I don't know how that would work. I can't get to ADB because I can't boot the phone.
I *CAN* get into the bootloader. From there, I can get into recovery, AP Fastboot, BP SBF Flash BP boot... and others.
So, I'm hoping there's some kind of way to push to the device from one of the boot loader options. I've had a Droid 1, and a number of other android devices, but I've never gotten this far into a hole before.
again... thanks for whatever you got
It doesn't look good my friend, not without a SBF to flash. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to try flashing the update again and cross your fingers that you got things in place before the bootloop. However I'm 99.9% sure that won't work. If I find anything else I'll let you now, but at this point you might be a sitting duck.

If you're still in the 14 day return window I would try to return it. If it can't get past the bootloader than they won't know you rooted it. Just tell them you tried to do the update and it bootlooped. That's probably you're safest bet.

You can use bp tools to push over a clean system. I believe theres a tutorial somewhere that written for bionic. Just replace that with the droid 4 system. I would extract it from one of the stock roms available and push it thru bp tools.
