How do you? I'm getting a not hosed one today

The "X is rooted" thread would be a good place to start
Alldroid has a great guide on how to do it. I would link to it, but they say my account is too new to link to outside URLs.
Sorry. I meant Unroot. Anyways, nevermind, I just put the phone in our degausser at work. No more root. Now I have a newphone
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Put it in what?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
A degausser. A device with a large magnet that wipes hard drives. It cost like 8 grand. We have the same ones the department of defence uses.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The phone just won't turn on after lol. Got a new one. The magnets so strong that you can't put your wallet within 10 feet otherwise it'll wipe your credit card.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Wow that is a nastey machine but appearently the only real way to wipe a hard drive is to have it put through a wood chipper lol. People can still pull up stuff after you reformat. Unless you use the petter gutmans way to reformat but that takes days from what I hear

I live in KS, and the sales clerk was shocked that I knew the Bionic was coming out tomorrow. I'll be ordering mine from Verizon online tonight, or as soon as they post it.

I actually ordered my Bionic from Verizonwireless.com this morning.. Too lazy to haul my cookies 40 minutes away to pick one up.. I'm pretty excited to see what it can do. I haven't gotten a new cellphone in 2 yrs - had the Droid Eris. Although I liked HTC, their hardware is suckish. My Eris was replaced 4 times due to multiple hardware malfunctions. I've always heard pretty good things about Motorola. Looking forward to seeing what the Bionic community will do with this phone!

How did you set it up? It won't work for me.
I'm having some difficulty locating a link to Pete's tool, could you please post a link to the version you have working? (I also want to make sure I've got a program that is known to work, and not accidentally download something bogus.) I'll be getting mine in about an hour or so.
EDIT: I think I finally found it: www_dot_psouza4_dot_com/Droid3/
(forum won't let me post links yet.) ...Please correct me if this isn't the same one you used, though!
Just got mine. Coming from an Eris. Worst part of the experience was sitting in the Verizon store for 2 hours waiting for the slow bionic activation process of customers ahead of me.
Been playing around with it for a bit, I like it so far. Can't wait for a root to get rid of all this bloatware. It's truly absurd how many useless apps they've installed that cannot be removed.

Yes I would like to know more about this so called screen issue. I'm picking mine up this evening. Is it really as bad as everyone says it is? I had the sensation for 30 days till I returned it (T-mobile sucks) and it had a beautiful screen.

Official app now works on Bionic. No hack version needed to make video work.

I've been waiting for this. Now I'm just waiting for my friends to get a phone with a front facing camera.
Forever in limbo with the things we want for our Bionics. If it ain't apps, it's the phone, and if it ain't the phone, it's others who need to get an updated phone... It seems a lot of apps need to catch up with the dual-core world.
Beings that the bionic and almost every other phone has built in soft keys including the vigor which will be out soon, does anyone think any current phones will be getting an ICS update. ICS has the softkeys built into the screen like honeycomb. It would look a little funny with 2 sets of menu keys. Just seeing if anyone had any input on this issue
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I fully expect the Bionic to get ICS. In fact I'd be willing to bet it's one of the first non-nexus phones to recieve it. Being under the google umbrella is a good thing, which Motorola now is. As far as the buttons go, that's a software modification and I don't expect that to be much of a road block. Button remapping takes place all the time in custom kernels so the guys at Moto and or Google should be able to sort that out simple enough.
I was hoping so. It just seems one of the main ics features is no menu keys. I was just hoping it wouldn't have both
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
ICS is being hailed as bringing tablets and phones together, so something as simple as disabling some on-screen menu buttons doesn't sound like something they would overlook.
Even if we ended up with some ****ed up version of ICS that made our phones have two rows of menu buttons, it wouldn't take longer than a day for the hackers here on XDA to figure out how to hide them.
Seems to me that our softkeys would work just fine w/ ICS... all the screengrabs I see have home, back, and multitasking buttons. Remap the menu key to be for multitasking, and you're set, with a bonus search key that duplicates whatever search function is integrated w/ ICS elsewhere.

I think it kinda sucks that Samsung and Google are waiting on officially releasing ICS due to the passing of steve jobs. Yeah it can be respectful but that didnt stop apple from making money.
I doubt the Google acquisition will affect products in the pre-merger pipeline for a year. Short of layoffs, I've never seen a change in engineers assigned priorities right off the bat.

The release isn't pushed back, just the announcement.
And it was extremely classy in my opinion.

Last warning.
Back on topic please folks
I'm sure they have the ability to use the four keys just like 2.3.7 and below. I believe that they also said that it was the manufacturers choice when building phones and tablets which method they use back when they were first touring honeycomb on the XOOM. I'm sure that they won't give us two sets of keys and take up screen realestate.

Nexus S will be the first phone to receive the update as far as previously sold phones without ICS. My Nexus S 4G has builtin soft keys as well. There's your answer
Getting my bionic tomorrow, what are the first few things I should do to it, apps to get, or anything else y'all would suggest. I want to root it but don't know how.

Return it. Then buy sometbing other than motorola.

if you want something you can flash roms and kernels with, you chose the wrong phone unless moto unlocks the bootloader
Lol well that was a lot of help. It's a replacement for my crap Samsung Charge or should I say the previous 4 replacements.

Get a spare battery. I got 2 with a charger for less than $13 on ebay with free shipping.

For tethering, try ClockworkMod Tether. I also installed Eclipse ROM 2.1 a few days ago and it seems to work pretty well, without any bloatware (which didn't bother me much on this phone anyway).

Hi thereisone. I also just switched over from the charge last week. I've been very happy with the bionic. I had the static problem with my radio, but I was also disappointed with the battery life, slow GPS, and general slow response on the charge. All these were improved on the bionic. Of course the screen isn't as nice, but I can live with it. Only real complaint is that the camera sucks.
Anyway, I've been writing up a guide for how to root and get to the latest and greatest. It can be hard to figure it all out because of out-of-date posts. Like others have told you already, we can only go so far right now, but if you just need a phone that functions without all the bloat you'll be alright. I'll have it up by tomorrow.
Get a 901 radio data is,very stady nit so hot on 893,

The other day I went to the verizon store and played with the Galaxy Nexus. I've been thinking about retiring the Bionic for the Nexus, bad thing is the Bionic was a birthday present from my family and I feel bad for ridding it. Anyways, to my surprise, it felt like the Nexus was running as fast and smooth as my Bionic was. I was kind of shocked honestly. So the only thing the Galaxy has going for it: unlocked bootloader, ICS, its a Nexus Device.
anyways hope that makes you feel a little better about having the Bionic.
Before there were any roms for the Bionic, I rooted it (there are guides on how to in the dev section) then found some free apps from the market that remove bloat.
If you are comfortable installing roms, there are instructions on doing so in the dev section but read them carefully and do not skip steps. I recommend eclipse 2.1. It's fast, it looks nice, and it has a much better data connection thanks to the 901 radio. It's a bit tricky to flash for some, but because you are on stock, you will have less of a problem.
Hope it helps!
Happy Droiding!
As stated above, I would make sure you have the 901 System Version. You can check that on the Settings->About Phone menu. It will read 5.9.901.XT875 ... The next thing would be to root it and then install a Custom ROM which is compatible with this version. AFAIK, you have to buy a MySQL app to modify one of the system settings to allow you to do the WiFi tether. You have to fake out the installed Verizon app. Sorry if you already know all of this but when you install the Custom ROM they generally recommend you clear all of the stored data so you will have to set up all of account usernames and passwords again for the apps that are in /system.
I rooted my phone before I did anything. I just took it home, plugged it into the computer and started the scripts I needed.
Good Luck.
It came with 893. Should I use forever root update then flash eclipse?

I can be considered a newb when it a to all this rooting. I know nothing so I'm leaning as I go. Following the guides I can find and useful users like y'all.

My instructions are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455888
Still updating a few details. Allow until this evening and then try it out.
I also just got my Bionic today as a replacement for my Charge. My Charge had an unfortunate accident and were out of them so they offered me the Bionic and LG Revolution. Like I'd really pick the Revolution over the Bionic? Lol
But looking forward to the guide cause I am completely lost when it comes to the Moto World. And also am looking to wifi tether.

I've had my Bionic for a few months, and have been recently resisting the .901 update because I didn't want to lose root. All that aside, followed this guide and it worked great!
