Problem w/ battery reading n charging - LG Optimus 2x

hi all,
Ive recently upgraded to v10d (Europe Open, coming from v10b) and im experiencing some wacky probs with the battery. Yesterday noon i charged the phone to 100% and then unplugged it and left it for about 5h. I then checked on battery life which was still 100%(!). I rebooted the phone and after some heavy use (2-3h youtube, lots of surfing, new widgets installing/configuring) i had dropped the battery to a 60%. I then went to bed. This morning the phone was dead and when i put it on the charger i saw that the battery had dropped to zero causing the phone to shut down. So i plugged it in, and switched it on. Since day 1 i was surprised with how fast the phone was charging to 100%, so after about 45min i checked on its state and saw that it was still at only 6%. I checked again after half an hour or so and it was still at the same point, 6%. I rebooted the phone again and checked on the battery level b4 plugging it back in and i saw a reading of 76% (!). Now ive plugged it back in, and once more its stuck on 76%. In all cases, even though the charging battery icon is there, the phone doesnt seem to show any changes in the battery state. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any advice welcome
Peace

I've got the same problem. It started two days ago, I tried Battery calibration but nothing changes.
My rom is miui.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using Tapatalk

Not only i get crazy readings, but the battery drain is MASSIVE. The phone sucks more than 60% battery in less than 7h on idle.. I dont get it, i did everything using LG's update tool, chose Europe as a location (The phone was sent from expansys UK, but i live in Spain.. Expansys 'out of stock' solutions). At least i dont get any BSOD or lags.. But the phone is still uselless like this..
EDIT: Ignore the sig

Have you tried battery calibration? (market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration) I think that's the problem, I did it again yesterday and I've got 20% of battery drain in 8 hours. Maybe too much (it has been in airplane mode 6 of those hours) but nothing unusual.
Sorry for my english, I'm from Spain too

I didnt try Battery Calibration because ive already done what the app does manually. I deleted battery stats from CWM, drained the battery, left it full charge without interruptions and the problem remains.. Im waiting for the phone to fully charge now, ill switch it on and post bb and ril readings because i remember that even though getril stated that BB and RIL are matching, it said something strange about a T-Mobile ROM or something.. Ill be back with more

OK, here's what i see from GetRil, it looks a bit strange. On 'about phone' (Android menu) I see that im on LG version v10d. But on GetRil i get:
RIL: 0405 (V10C, T-Mobile)
Baseband: 1035.21_20110405
Can anyone make something out of this?
Any help appreciated
EDIT: AGAIN Ignore Sig (Got to get this done at some point )

I tried battery calibration, but it didn't get better. Then I deleted battery stats but didn't work, so I tried battery calibration yesterday and (for now) it's OK. Maybe when I charge it again the problem will be back.
I've got bb 622 and ril 622 v10d vodafone and getril says everything it's OK
Edit: you should try another ril, V10C Spain for example.

What version do you have? v10D? Did you update the phone using LG update tool?

I use Miui (It's a rom based on cyanogen) and I flash a new one almost every week. Those roms are beta, so it's "normal" for me to have problems, but you shouldn't have them with a stock one...

yeah i guess so.. The thing is that im coming from a much simpler to use/flash smartphone (acer liquid) and im a bit mixed up now.. basebands, ril's etc. Maybe i should try to flash the last version for spain using the LG tool, and try again.
EDIT: Now im getting a 'Update not required' message from LG update tool. Probably because its trying to go from v10d (Europe) to v10c (Spain).. IM SO ANGRY!!

I would do that. The last bb is 725, it works well for some people, but not for me, I tried it but the battery drain was massive, so I get back to 622 and (until this problem) everything worked fine.
You'll get used to this, it's funnier

How do i update the baseband only?
EDIT: I found the baseband page on Modaco, where its got the smartflash tool/drivers and the BBs, but it says that it will fully wipe INCLUDING Int SDCard. I try to do a backup using CWM-based Recovery 4.0.1.5 for Internal & External SD Card from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745 but even though i have an external SDcard in, it does the backup on the internal!

With smartflash (http://android.modaco.com/topic/335494-12-aug-smartflash-stock-baseband-release-103521-20110725/) but read everything very well. It'll delete all your data, so make backup. If you want help with that or something else (and you speak spanish) ask here: http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=217920 and I'll help you. I don't dare to do it in english, in case I don't exprese myself well enough

Ok man, thanx. I was wondering if it is ok to flash baseband 622 over v10d, or if it is totally irrelevant and i just dont know what im talking about..

I'm such a noob too (specially talking in english) but if you ask to the experts, you'll be fine, good luck

BB and rom are two separate stuffs. U can play around with any BB till u find one that suits u best.

Yeah I realised that.. Im on v10d and i just flashed BB 622 and preparing to flash Fr19.. Lets hope that all the battery craziness will go away..
PS All this just when i read that 'Gingerbread Is Out' post.. damn it..

Battery drain

My batteri is all out after 5 hours.
I have baseband
1035.21_20110614
Kernel
2.6.32.9-dirty
Version
FRG83G
LGE
P990-V10c
Is there something that is not up to date? Display brightness is set to the lowest and GPS disabled. What should i do?
You could try updating your Baseband to 622 and download the 622 Ril. Maybe your drain get lower with this combination

I'm down to 46% after 21 hours.
You can try flashing the correct baseband for "Europe Open" - and using the corresponding RIL. This was a tremendous improvement on my phone. The phone seems to have better reception as well.
I was seeing very poor performance when running with the wrong version of the baseband (even though it had the same version number).
BTW: Have you tried disabling bluetooth? This seems to consume a lot of power even though it's not connected on my phone.
Hello,
I had appalling battery drain on 10c too. However, I downgraded my unit to 10b + 622 baseband and now my phone is holding for 4 days and 25% of battery is still remaining (some light psx/android gaming, wifi internet, calls, texting). No root or modification or killing processes whatsoever. Downgrade worked for me

I'm having the same problems as the OP and this post is the best hope I have gotten for months now for fixing my battery drain.
I don't understand all the versioning numbers, RIL and whatnot for basebands so if someone could point my to the correct baseband links I would _very_ grateful.
I'm currently running cm7 and my baseband is currently 1035.21_20110405 and I live in Sweden and 3 is my carrier (if it matters).
Thanks!
Edit: Updated to baseband 622, still no go.

Check that you're using the corresponding RIL. You can use this utility: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176372.
had a similar problem with my previous O2X, had it exchanged because the battery kept saying it was overheating. Kept burning off a full charge in less than a day in sleep mode.
As i said, only solution was a new phone
Get juicedefender, mine runs for like two days
Also having battery draining issues. Removed my phone from the charger at 3AM this morning, was 100% charged. At 2PM, it was down to about 15% if I remember correctly. During that time, probably 1-2 hours was spent using the phone, including a phone call. Mostly angry birds and some chatting, using wifi, and bluetooth in my car.
My battery use stats show Cell standby used 31%, and Phone Idle used 26%. These figures sound high to me, but I'm not sure. Can anyone comment on if they are high/low?
I'm on baseband 0622 with RIL 0622 as per vorkkernel, with CM7 #84. I read some people claim that nightlies since #79 have been bad for battery life. Otherwise my baseband works fine, data works fine and my phone call worked fine. No idea how I sounded though.

Stock 20L: 3G disconnects then HUGE battery drain

Hello all,
I have confirmed the following issue on my Optimus 2x with stock 20L. Nothing else, nothing special.
When I leave the phone standby for several hours (eg. during the night), when I get back to it and turn on the screen, the network signal/3G indicators are white - meaning no internet connection.
After around 10 seconds, 3G reconnects itself.
While this is annoying, since you don't get any notifications from programs using the internet (WhatsApp, Facebook etc), it gets worse.
After 3G reconnects itself, the battery drains really fast: about 30 seconds for 1%. So in a few minutes your battery will be completely drained.
This even continues while rebooting.
For example: I come back to my phone and it has 46% left. Then I notice the 3G disconneced and reconnecting and then power starts dropping really fast. I reboot at 43% power left. After the reboot, there's only 18% left but the draining has stopped.
I at least had this happen twice in four days.
Is anyone else noticing this, or does any of the developers out here perhaps has a fix or a custom rom in which it is fixed?
I really like 20L for some new features, but I'm also experiencing issues with GPS and now also this... I'm really thinking of going back to 10D.
Thanks for any help or insights you can give me.

I also have huge battery drain, but in my case the main culprit is OnScreen Phone. Left my phone with 100% in the evening and in the morning, after exactly 8h, the battery was at 70%. Of that, 50% was used by OSP, and 25% each Idle and Cell standby. With the phone on wireless, froyo used at most 10% instead of the 30% used by GB now.
Yes you should remove all background running apps, especially the sh..y LG one Phone on Screen, but also checking for others, like media share programs and so on.
One time with my present ROM I had a storm in my battery with tremendous drain.. I had to do a fresh reinstall, and since then no problem.
Thanks for your replies, but this is different.
The battery only starts draining when 3G reconnects and you can literally see it happen.

Same happening here. I'm running on topogigi 2.0 SP3.
With Baseband 725 I'm having this issue. Now I'm on 622 will see tomorrow what happens
Edit: I'm noticing, that even if I have full signal with an "H" the phone starts switching from H to 3G and back when I turn the screen on
I think I can confirm that huge battery drain on GB is because of the radio. The reporting of huge consumption by OnScreen Phone or Gallery may be wrong.
I left last evening my phone fully charged on Flight Mode and after 8:30 it consumed a mere 1-2%. With Flight mode off GB uses like 30% and Froyo used 10%. So I suppose the radio is the main culprit. As you can see in my screenshots, the Gallery process is said to have used the most energy, but it wasn't even started. And some days ago OSP was in place of Gallery. In the third screenshot you can notice how the drain started when I turned off the Flight mode and browsed for 45 min or so.
Could it be that we're experiencing this huge radio drain because of the incorrect baseband? I suppose we all have the generic Euro Open/Italian v20L ROM, and maybe our networks need a correct baseband for our specific operator?

The first time i experienced the battery drain problem i had no rooted phone with official Gingerbread update from LG. That was last week. The Baseband was exactly the same as from Froyo 10D (725).
With Froyo I had no battery drain at all. So LG must have messed something up - that was my thought...
since then i rooted my phone and installed topogigis rom on fr, 4th nov. At the weekend i was in areas where the signal strength was very good (H in status bar).
On monday no battery drain on my place of work where signal is very bad (G in status bar).
Since tuesday battery drain is back. I get reconnects after reconnects when the signal is weak. Even when the signal is very good my phone jumps from H to 3G and back. What the hell is that?
You need to flash the GB baseband released with the rom, the 0725 basebands are not the same. Flash the 0725 baseband in the v20l thread of Hell_97 and try again. Without it there are many issues.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Maybe I was a little uncertain:
- Last Wednesday (2nd nov) I had an unrooted phone with froyo. In the morning I checked for an update with LG Software and boom I had Gingerbread.
- Until friday I had heavy battery drain (9h and battery was at 5%). I was so angry and thought f*** you LG-Guys I'm flahing topogigi's rom. I flashed the Baseband 725 from his thread. On Saturday to Monday evening no problems at all.
- On Tuesday my phone again had very bad signal an it was often active (in the Battery-Usage Menu were much of those blue bars.
- Yesterday I flashed 625 Baseband -> problem not solved
- today I flashed 502 (from LG U660 10S update). I will look how it works.
What I noticed on all Gingerbread roms is, that the phone often Disconnects an Reconnects. I think that's making the heavy battery-darin.
But I have no idea how to fix that...
edit1: Did you mean the Baseband of this thread?

edit2: what problems do appear with basebands different from 725 for GB?

If you have updated through LG update tool, your Baseband had been updated to last (=the one recommended for Hell ROM), and above all the one recommended by LG for your area...
I think you should put back this one...

I've read many threads about this issue, but couldn't find a solution for Optimus 2X because on our phone, the PDP Settings in the HiddenMenu aren't implemented yet, so we can't disable Fast Dormancy.
I've found a workaround when you're at home: you can change the WiFi policy to never sleep, so during the night, the phone will use WiFi only instead of 3G while it's sleeping. But still, this doesn't hep you at all when you have no WiFi available.
I called LG this morning and they sad I'm the first reporting this problem (huge 3G battery drain on newly released Gingerbread)
Has anybody found another solution?

OUCH MY BATTERY! and which to flash?

Ok so Ive only had my O2X for about 4 days. so far.
the number one thing i have notices is it dies about about 4 hours.
when i first got it . the battery was not full but not empty.
i emptied it by running stuff on the fone then charged it.
is it normal to charge for 4 hours.? seriously. my other fones. (moto, china mobs and no name brands) all fully charge in under 30 minutes. ...
ok .
so this is my default spec i got on the fone.'
btw after much debating. i have come to the conclusion.
running task killers and stuff is a bad idea cause your going to use "CPU" to get to task killer to close the apps/tasks etc. right? then when u wnt to use specifics on ya fone. more CPU time to load them back into ram.
kinda pointless right? however JUICE DEFENDER.. i like it for blocking only the (network data, wifi on off etc) its great.
any recommendations muchly appreciated. i dont mind having to flash to a new rom / kernal/ radio etc. (havnt done before on ANDROID) cant be that hard. lots of guides around.
thanks for your time in reading this.
Android Version 2.3.4
Baseband version 1035.21_20110725
kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build Number GRJ22
LGE Version LGP990-V20d
when i look @ battery use " it says 10h 25m on battery.?
25% cell standby
24% phone idle
13% Camerra
13% music
13% on screen phone
13% android system
trouble is. i turned my fone on @ 6:40 am, it went flat and powered off @ about 3:00pm. i listened to 3 albums on winamp. and then put my fone down. did nothing else with it.
i am running "juice defender ultimate" on "custom / aggressive" selective mode.
i have un installed car home. (there is 2 of them)
further questions... when i goto
applications / running
and check what is running
is it normal to have all these running.
(android system twice) ?
backup and restore.
googleplay store (running?)
sim toolkit
f-secure mobile
maps
drm service
lg pc suite
if i close maps it re opens.
is f-secure mobile necessary?
so with all this being said. firstly I was getting 4 hours. batt life.
deleting batt info and re calibrating and doing that (full cell trick). i think its increased about 2 hours... however. this is still crap.
i hear of people running 24 hours or 48 hours.
if i could get 48 (standby) not using phone. i would be happy.
however. whats the point in taking your fone with you to work and 1/2 the day you dont actually have a fone cause its dead.. =-( and would take another 4 hours to charge again..
seriously. kinda regretting this ...
solutions?
can someone check the rom/kernal/radio etc and tell me if it would be because of the stock.. or recommend something.. i dont care about ICS. im happy on Gingerbread.. .
with a lot of reading over the past few days
I have decided that
cm7kang-O2x-RC1-87-PDroid.zip
Looks Decent enough based on the reviews and feedback.
the battery life being my main concern.
so what do need now.
do i need a matching kernel and RIT ?
which is recommended for this?
1204071030-ETaNa_OTF-3.0.y KERNEL ?

A matching kernel is optional, you don't have to flash another kernel, but when you do, flash ETaNa Kernel (link in signature). Flash first the rom (Temasek KANG) then the kernel after a full wipe in CWM. (data/cache/system/dalvik) I recommend you though, to make a backup of your stock rom first, this will come in handy whenever you need to return your phone to LG for a hardware problem. You can make a total backup (Nandroid backup) in CWM recovery (backup/restore). Make sure you have enough space though, a total rom backup is about 1GB big...
A matching RIL always helps, so yeah, try to match your RIL with your BB with the GetRIL app.
thats why i keep getting errors lol only 400mb free.
my 8gb card died =( unless i can reformat somwhere other than the fone.
so u recomend your .86 instead of .87 (i read a few probs about 86.) also
your kernel is better than the one i posted above? oh i read. LITE. (better battery) thanks for the recomend.
so 86 hmm
have a 2gb external. ok . sorted. here we go. can u tell me your personal reasoning behind 86 over 87 ?
Personally, I would go for 87. They're both great and 87 is the updated version of the previous one (86)
By the way, I think I never said that 86 is better the only reason why I'm still on 86 is because I'm kinda lazy to flash 87 . Anyway you should always go for the most recent one...
#87 is good.
DONE! ill give you feed backs soon =D
used both your recomended.. ive looked around. you seem to know what your on about =D
thanks temasek. ill try 87 then . woots.
no googleplay even with signed zip. fixed permisions. wont sync or add or load even.

Ok. another full charge. unplugged before work 6:40 am. this time. using all the pre configured stuff i could. (dimmer, to off. disabled everything in the pulldown task bar @ top). had absolutley nothing running.
this time i didnt even listen to (3 albums) like i normally do. i recieved 3 sms's today. thats all. no music. just standby. flat in 9 hours 3 minutes...
thats worse than the stock ROM> however i really do like what you've done with CM7,
would the kernal (lite) have any thing to do with it?
oh well i guess you should try to read how to flash roms first.
what you on about. im no turkey.
Well... what steps have you taken to flash the ROM? To go from Stock to CM i'd recommend you to do the following:
Code:
boot CWM
Mounts & Storage thing > format system, cache, data
advanced > wipe dalvik cache
install rom.zip
install gapps (ultimately from http://goo.im/gapps)
boot to check everything has worked
(install custom kernel)
that should clear every non-rom-related problem...
yeah thats exactly what i did.
Ive seen this before, i would say you've got a faulty motherboard, go back to stock rom and unroot and send it back to LG, you never know it could be the battery or motherboard

LG O4XHD V10d 3G extreme Batterydrain

First of all, i´m new to dxa and this is my first Thread/Question.
Dont blame me, my english is not soo good
Hardfacts:
- LG 4X HD, NOT rooted
- V10d Austria-Hutchison Firmware (they´re testing V20a yet, i don´t know when its released and if it solves my problem).
I´ve been using BetterBatteryStats for quite a days now and i searched alle the forums and everyone seems to be have another problem.
Mine is this (i´ve wiped my device already):
It seems that, when i use my 3G-connection, _something_ from the "Android-System" extremly drains my battery even when i´m not using my phone.
Yesterday i chared it to 100% before i´ve gone to bed, just 2 phone calls. Went to sleep at 96%, no 3G-connection enabled.
In the morning i was on 94% - completely acceptable value for me. -> see first 5 attachments @6.am in the morning.
Then i usually turn on 3g & start imo.im and check mails/fb etc.
At 10.am i was on 60%, not using the phone much ... only when i got messages etc.
At the 6th attachment u can see that android system was draining much of the power --> i don´t know if its coming from imo.im or another app/service.
Could it really be that imo.im drains that much battery ? I can´t believe it ... the phone has _NOTHING_ to do.
At 2pm i was on less than 15% battery and i was not using the phone intensively ...
It is the v10d firmware ? Should it be better with v20a (flash) ?
What is this "baseband_xmm_power" ? Usually i got a very good signal here in Upper Austria. Peak-Values ~12mbit/s.
Remember i have an sim-locked provider phone!
I hope u guys can help me, i dont know what to do.
My HTC Desire with oxygen rom sniffs that values and laugh at it ...
Thanks, Vogi

[Q] Stock ROM battery drain after playing with Maclaw ROMS

After playing around with some Maclaw ROMS (cm10.2 and cm11) I went back to stock ROM. However I had big battery drains after that.
I did a complete wipe of user and cache and dalvik. I installed stock firmware with Odin. Did it over again with KIES. But still a big battery drain. Like 15% an hour. No apps installed other than the bloatware the in the firmware.
I've read somewhere about someone else who had the same issue, but I cannot find it anymore.
Anyone an idea?
Maybe you should try to format all partitions in recovery (except your internal and external SD card of course) and reflash the stock firmware.
By the way, 15% an hour is quite normaal for me.

Custom Roms battery drain, can be the 1ghz bug .
when you did alot off playing ( such as flashing from rom to rom an formatting again in a few hours. it cost you battery .
And now back on stock rom. Try to load your battery again to 100 % and see what will happen after it .
Stock rom = 100 % - 0% battery --> +- 20 hours
Custom roms= can do it longer.
but if you are a heavy caller, gamer. the battery will be down faster .

I've had the same problem. I updated the working 10.1 october version to the december version. After switching back to october version the failure was still there. Only way to solve it was a new battery - but it costs only about 10 € ...
i think that it is true that rom by itself is still buggy with cpu governer bug that causes to be stuck on 1ghz without dropping to 200mhz on the other side...when i try another version i shall make my jugdement more clearly
i got this problem on 02.13 release when i update to 02.16 problem was solved. didnt update 02.18 yet

Perhaps you should also consider the lifetime and usage of your battery. After months of charging and discharging once or twice a day, it´s not so unnormal that a battery goes weak...which has imho directly nothing to do with the used software...

Thanks for the reply.
I charged again to 100 % en let it go to 0%. It took about 9 hours, AIRPLANE MODE!!!
Checked CPU with CPU spy: it goes to deep sleep.
No apps installed except the bloatware the Samsung firmware comes with (and CPU spy).
Maybe it's just my battery gone bad/dead at the same time I tested the Maclaw roms. I already ordered a new one (2450 mAh!), but it takes about a month to get here (if it arrives all together; I live on a tiny little island).
However... I also noticed I do not have network coverage some times. Just no network. Could it be that if you flash it with Odin/Kies not everything is wiped and reinstalled? Like modem drivers (although it's strange the drain also occurs in airplane mode). To make it more complicated: I just moved to another place, so maybe the coverage is worse around here.
I just hate it if I can't pinpoint the problem

Hi,
I think you are on 1ghz bug if you have custom rom.
When you are on stock. This is not normale, your battery is going bad
Where did you bought a new one, im looking for a new one also.

Tried the 02.16 cm11 release => no change. Think my battery is just gone. I'll wait for the new one to arrive and will see then.

Think you're right. Bah, so it ain't something that can be fixed by/in a flash.

I bought a 2450 mAh battery here (only $5, but have to see if it really arrives first):

Hi!, I'm having the same issue here:
-Super-battery drain, specially when restarting the phone, huge 20% drops.
-Phone looses signal inexplicably,5 bars and suddenly dead, restarting solves the problem, but when signal drops, the battery starts getting HOT, even on IDLE.
-Im using Carbon 4.4.2 KitKat ROM on S3Mini I8190L.
Battery was working quite well with Cyano 11 about 3 months ago, switched to MIUI ROM because a friend recommended it, ROM started to be unstable, laggy and battery life wasn't great, had the same "signal lost" issues. Then downloaded the Carbon ROM and everything went worse.
-I always do full wipe, (davlik, data, interal storage, everything).
Any ideas?
