i am wondering if anyone else has had a nexus s or has one and which is better in your opinion, i have had the nexus s since the uk release date but am tempted by this too.... any help would be appreciated
if you are a power user, its not the time since you have no root, no gingerbread (yet), high powerusage. Short to say: great phone, but could be better
Dont think a switch would be something i should have done...

I swapped Incredible s for nexus s. I owned two nexus s but i was disappointed by its performance, my nexus s was not updating itself, and lack of average user freindly features on vanilla android, now i agree people wont like this as many love vanilla experience, but i like htc's sense the most useful application of android, I also owned galaxy s but i hate samsung they have resources, but i suspect they are just cutting corners
I went with the Incredible S as I preferred the HTC keyboard layout (the arrow keys are a buffer from the capacitive buttons). Not having to put up with a PenTile screen was also a big factor.
Dunno about you lot but I would only buy a phone with a 4.3 inch screen or larger. I tried to go back to something small like a HTC Touch Diamond for a week but after 2 hours I couldn't handle it. I like everything big and colorful, easy to read and more to see.
I agree, I like 4 and bigger. I have an htc inspire and love the big screen. I could do without the weight if this thing though. Its heavier than some of my fishing reels.

Prior to getting my Thunderbolt I would have disagreed. I came to this phone from a Moto Backflip and thought my dad's Droid 2 screen was decently large. But now, I can't imagine having a smaller screen.

Even i find 4in screen (samsung galaxy S and variants) to be small compare to the the other 4.3 inchers
I can't wait in a year or two where they ditch all the buttons so that they can increase the size to maybe 4.5in and above within the small size of like an HD2.

I can understand that preference, but I do not share it. Screen-wise, I'd rather have a Desire HD/Inspire/Thunderbolt than an iPhone 4.
3.5" is just too small these days IMO.
I'm glad we're all in agreement here.
I remember being satisfied with the original Droid screen when it came out partly due to the amazing pixel density of the device (which is still pretty good for its size, IMO) but after I picked up a Droid X...I can't accept anything less.
Bigger is better but just keep the resolution going in the same direction!
I'm going to go with at least 4 inches. I'm using a N1 right now and at 3.7(8?) it isn't that bad, however I'm not really watching media on the phone so that doesn't bother me. LCD density changer also helps by adding more psuedo screen size to it as well.
I'm waiting for the Galaxy S 2; when that comes out I'll probably pick that up here in the states.
any size between 4-4.3
The beauty of android is that you can get any size you like.

Those of us with big fat fingers would disagree with you. High resolution might make a small screen easier to read, but using the onscreen keypad with a small screen, regardless of the resolution, can be tough.
The Droid X blows away the iPhone 4 in ease of typing.

This htc evo 3d is my first touch screen only phone. And as badly as I'm doing with the virtual keyboard, I couldn't imagine click clacking away on an even smaller screen.

resolution and icon sizing matters most to me; i like it easy to use with bigger buttons. im fine with the iphone sized screen and i think the atrix at 4" is just fine. any larger and it would be awkward to pull in and out of my pockets.

I agree, the resolution is most important. Also i think phones more than 4 inches is very inconvenient, especially for active people.
Resolution isn't everything, look at a 480x800 SAMOLED + screen compared to some higher resolution SLCDs. True blacks, more contrast and vibrancy in comparison. Never seen complaints about its "low" resolution, so I don't totally buy that higher resolution = better overall screen.

i think that 3' screen up is good
I prefer a smaller device, so 3.7" screen on my Droid Incredible is perfect. I would not like if the device were any longer or wider than it already is. I even find the iPhone 4 a bit too long, height-wise. It always feels so uncomfortable when the phone ends up sideways in my pocket.
I can't say I am fond of the increase in phone sizes closer and closer to tablet sizes. There is no 3.7" mass market upgrade for the Droid Incredible or Nexus One. I would not mind a 4" phone if they shrunk the borders enough to maintain the dimensions of a 3.7" phone, but so far it seems only Apple cares about doing that.
I used to have a HTC Incredible with a 3.7" screen and now have a HTC Thunderbolt with a 4.3" and I don't think I could ever go smaller, the large icons are so nice.
I have just sold my iPhone and I plan on getting an Android device for under $250 off contract. Two options that caught my eye were the Nexus One and HD2 (not an official Android device I know).
I was wondering if there were any specific advantages of the Nexus One over the HD2? Both seem to have rather enthusiastic developer communities (if I recall correctly, they both received Gingerbread ports on the same day) and the hardware on both are equally as solid IMO. Here are the pro's of each I have gathered so far -
Nexus One
AMOLED display
official Google device (thus more people working on it, faster official updates)
metal construction
notification light trackball
HD2
4.3" display
metal construction
physical buttons
seems to have an enthusiastic modding community in terms of Android ports
can boot Windows Phone 7 as well
Any words of advice?
HD2 - Better Digitizer and no power button problems.
It really comes down to the screen size and which you prefer. If my Nexus One ever has anything more than the power button fail and an easily hackable 4.3" device has not come out yet and I can get an HD2 for a reasonable price I would get that to hold me over.

So aside from screen size preference and the faulty power button, are there any other advantages/disadvantages of each? I think I would prefer the 4.3" display over the Nexus One's 3.7" given that its LCD is not much worse than the AMOLED.
The specs are on par with each other, same SOC/GPU, same ram as well, so they are virtually identical spec was.
The only thing I can't speak for is running Android on a non native phone. But judging by the following and the video reviews, I can only conclude it runs the OS just as well as a native device would.
I have both...and love them both. I would say that you could probably end up with a little more in your pocket with the HD2, and if you are here in the USA, you will have a bit more room for app storage with the HD2 without having to resort to using A2SD workarounds
...I have been using the same gingerbread rom on my HD2 now for about 2 months and its super solid.

Indeed. Spec-wise, it is very much the same as its Android and WP7 counterparts. There should be no compatibility issues in that respect. My mindset is that the HD2 is a better phone for me but I've come here to see if there are any real advantages that Nexus One owners have noticed. Perhaps looking forward, the amount of development for it?

I couldn't help but notice the phones in your signature. Out of the four, which one would you recommend the most? Those are all in the list of phones I am considering for purchase...
The HD2 has a better touch digitizer, bigger screen, WP7 compatible, more internal memory.
The nexus one has a hardware defect with the touch screen ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsSUqkh8pcI) , it really restricts you from using emulators, or makes playing multi-touch games highly frustrating, and difficult.
I've owned the nexus one since launch, and I really regret not getting an HD2( my friend owns one). Trust me, go with the HD2

Thanks for the advice! I believe I will indeed be going with the HD2. I really love the way the hardware looks and feels from a design perspective as well.

Sorry for the late reply...its hard for me to choose phones, I have more than what is listed in my signature also. I tend to keep going back to my MT4G a lot...it has a good screen size and the phone is not that big...ample storage space for apps and a quick processor. The only thing I hate is the stock rom, but that is easily replaceable.

The HD2 uses the same crappy ass ClearPad 2000 touch sensor used in the N1. So on this point, they are equal.
Hi all
I'm looking to get a new phone, and it might be a Galaxy S2 or a HTC Incredible S.
What were your reasons to go for the Incredible S instead of the Galaxy S2?
Thanks
Dominik
The SGS II wasn't released when I bought the Incredible 2.
I got mine for $150 used (barely though), and sold my x10 the same day for the same amount.
It was a huge trade up imo...
It was simple economics. I got my IncS for $300 brand new, in box. The SGSII was selling for $549.99 at Bell. The SGSII won't do anything MORE than the IncS, it will just do it faster, brighter and clearer. Everything I wanted to do with a smartphone is possible on the IncS and I saved $250.
And you could say "Sure, but if I get a 3-year contract, the SGSII is only $169.99". Well I don't like contracts and being locked in to a payment for that long, the freedom of owning your phone and being able to choose what to do with it is much more appealing.
The only reason I could think of is price. I would love the sgs2. But i got my inc s as a warranty swap with HTC.

build quality
SLCD screen (no SAMOLED+ for me after seeing the screen issues SGS2 got cuz of it)
Sense UI always better than Touchwiz
and looks better..
I got my IS for $200. Also, the SGS2 is beyond big.
4.3" is too big for a pocket device. The Incredible S is just slightly larger than an iPhone 4 (side by side), which is tolerable.
^you shouldn't forget that the GSII is the thinnest phone till date, its quite easy to fit in the pocket.
At this time of the year, if you have the money for the GSII then get it.Its a far better choice than the IS.

Thickness is not something that I really look for in a new phone these days, since all phones are roughly 10 mm thick, give or take 1-2 mm. That's not much at all (excluding sliders like Torch, Desire Z, etc..). I care more about the front-facing profile. A 4.3" phone is significantly larger than a 4" phone.
4" is just the ideal size, 4.3 doesn't hurt either. There used to be a time when even 4" was considered to be too big.
Slightly off topic, the HTC HD2 is the first 4.3" phone out there. Look at how successful it is now.
Maybe for ppl, it takes time to get used to a >4" device.
I'd go for the galaxy s 2. Looks nice. Has a nice screen. Decent battery life and cameras. Also its one of the first if not the first hardware accelerated android device so its super smooth.

SGS2 was delayed from April to May to June and whatnot. IncS came at a good price so I took it.
Didn't think that calling, messaging, occasionally using FB, Tumblr, Twitter needed dual core processors.
Hi All,
As the title says I'm kinda confused on what phone to get between HTC One and S4...I'm a long time iPhone user. I've seen many reviews and comparison between the two ones but I'm still undecided...I'm around 60-40 towards HTC...
Thanks a lot for reading this!
I just bought HTC one after even checking s4 and I can say both are high performance devices but it comes down to personal preference and that's build quality vs software gimmicks. I liked the build quality of HTC one so I bought it immediately
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I got both over the weekend, both phones you really can't go wrong, If I had purchased either one instead of both, I wouldn't have regretted it, I fully expected that I'd hate how the S4 looked since it was basically the same looking as my S3 but when I held it and saw it in person, it actually looked better and felt better in the hand than the S3, Samsung squared the phone more and made the sides a bit less tapered, so it feels better in hand, Still tho the One felt just amazing in hand.
The S4 has all the TW features a bigger screen, removeable battery, and micro SD...the one has dual front facing speakers, the higher PPI screen although smaller, and by far the better build quality feel....Personally if I had to choose one or the other, I'd still choose the One for its build quality and the fact that I hate TW, that said tho I find myself using the S4 more when both are with me cause of the slightly bigger screen, I kno its only .3 of a diff but for some reason the One screen seems a lot smaller, it even seems smaller then my N4 screen and they're supposedly both 4.7
Also keep in mind both will be receiving official AOSP support once the Google Editions come out, so TW and Sense will be a wash...Definately check them out in person and see which you like better, it really is personal pref.

I used to have a sgs2(and a one x after that) and before an htc desire but what makes me go with htc is that software wise it is so much better thought out than samsung, with more and better features and a very smooth and well integrated experience even though in raw specs the sgs4 wins. But besides that the One is very beautiful which the SGS4 isn't.
To sum up: Software functionality and good well thought out integration and beautiful hardware HTC, raw power Samsung
I looked at both but chose the HTC One in the end because of it's smoother feel and not so cluttered interface. I still think both are great phones. If you like the Samsung interface then you'll no doubt love the S4

After playing with an S4 and One right after I made this thread ... the winner is Htc One , I like better how it feels in my hand and the overall desing of it rather the cheap plastic and on the S4 ( ok maybe it's not that cheap ) . What I like on S4 is the removal battery , MicroSD card and physical home button.
