Upgrading Overcome - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, on my GTAB I have Overcome Hermes Edition. I can't upgrade to Kratos because, when I go to recovery mode, instead of the usual menu there's a more generic "android system recovery <e3>" with many errors like "E:unknown volume for path /efs".
What can I do?
Thanks in advance, regards.

I have the same problem ...

I had this problem too. My solution was to flash the CF-Root kernel via Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885734
Then you can boot your tab into CWM and flash Overcome. I'd recommend doing a full wipe, just because I had market issues that could have been related to this problem. But, since the no-wipe installs the next Overcome kernel, you won't have to worry about reflashing anything else.

CWM can't mount cache ....

My sister bought galaxy tab and I decided to convert her to overcome ....i did step by step instructions from install guide....and all works flawlesly except CWM, or to be more precise error mounting cache (logs,........)....cant mount cache in cwm setings, cant format, cant wipe.... but othervise phone boots normal with no lags....
what can i do? what will this affect?
i just realized that in voodo control there is no cache in ext4 paritions (on my tab there is)....help me what should i do??

Sounds like your kernel/CWM is incompatible with the filesystem.....either try flashing a different kernel via Odin or Heimdall in download mode or a full restock is your only choice. I've had that happen before and that's how I resolved it.
How it can be incompatible when I use same combo on other tab?
Sent from my GT-P1000
I did full restock and its the same... I did it with the same files I used on my tab...

I finaly solved the problem.... did the full restock with stock rom found in galaxy tab general, installed dip7 kernel trough Odin, installed ext4 app from chainfire.... converted partition with this app ... and checked to see if cache is normal.. and it is... and then installed overcome trough cwm.... weird voodoo enabled lagfix again (it was already on ext4)... checked to see if cache works... and everything is back to normal ...

Will this work?

Hi ya all,
Just wondering if I can do this:
1) Flash to CF-Root kernel (As close to JV7 as I can get)
2) Flash CM7.1 for i9000
3) Flash Glitch v13.1 kernel (if it has CMW, does it?)
The reason for doing this is to get past the 3e recovery console, as that's stopping me installing CMW outright (from Rom Manager) which I need to flash Glitch.
Tbh, not even worried about which version of CF-Root I flash long as it boots... only going to be on the phone a matter of minutes.
So, will it work? Is there a better way?
Thanks in advance good peeps of XDA
If you come from GingerBread Stock Rom
so you've got System 3e
with 3e can't you flash Zip file over Recovery Mode
You Had Right Way but maybe make a little mistake
If you use CF-Root, then use pls the kernel with Addon CWM (I prefer DarkCore 4.1)
So you've got System 2e, after flashing Kernel
Download
[CF-ROOT] --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 (take the one with ending "-CWM")
[DarkCore] --> http://sourceforge.net/projects/ficeto.u/files/
*Important
to do before flash CM
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
*Optional
to do before flash Glitch Kernel
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)

If it was useful don't forget to Thanks
Thank you very much very much diklooc didn't know about the cleaning before install CM7, could have been messy lol.
One more question, if I flash CF-Root with has CMW built into it, will I loose CMW if I flash Glitch?
If CMW will get deleted after flashing Glitch, or if no one really knows... can I flash CF-Root then get ROM Manager and reflash CMW? If I do this, CMW wont disappear if I flash Glitch? ...if CMW will dissapear after flashing Glitch this is.
I could be getting this completely wrong, plus I don't know if Glitch has CMW built in... if it does then there wont be any issues as far as I can see.
Anyone know if there is an Odin version of Glitch (I haven't seen one...)? Would save having to flash anything else as this feels like "the long way round".
Thanks again all, awesome community
You will not lose cwm from flashing glitch, indeed you will have a gucci custom cwm......
No requirement to use rom manager for cwm - that method hasn't really been used since eclair.

Boot Loop after flashing stock

I was recently using Stunner ICS but decided I wanted to go back to stock and start over. I downloaded the stock N7000XXKJ4_N7000OXXKJ4 firmware and installed it through odin. I did not receive any errors on the phone or on my PC. But now it seems like my phone is stuck in a boot loop. It just keeps showing the samsung boot animation over and over. I used the download jig to get into download mode and tried redoing the firmware twice already with no luck. One thing I did notice is that the jig is no longer resetting the binary counter. Does anyone have any other ideas or is my phone possibly bricked?
This is supposed to be in Q& A section... Anyways... Did you try wipe?

What worked for me having the same problem recently is go to Recovery mode (Volume up + home + power) and you'll see this funny kinda recovery, not at all CWM Do a data wipe/factory reset and then reboot.
Same thing happened with me yesterday, wipe in recovery fixed the problem

I'm sorry. Mods please move to appropirate section.
Thank you guys. I was beginning to freak out. I was trying to do the recovery menu but couldn't get it to work. I thought the recovery menu was also hosed but I had the wrong buttons. All is good now! thank you so much!
First thing you need to do if you want to get back GB, flash abyss 3.9 redpill kernel.
After that flash GB rom.
So later you can flash whatever kernel you want

Hanging at Samsung logo; can't boot into recovery; am I bricked???
Hi guys...
I've been semi bricked for about 18 hours now. And it's starting to look like it's a full-brick.
I had the latest Gingerbread ROCKET ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, with the latest Franco kernel in place.
I thought I'd give the ICS version of ROCKET ROM a go. Flashed Abyss4.2 kernel without any hassles. Used 'advanced' to boot into recovery. Did my various wipes. Flashed the ICS Rocket Rom zip. And got caught up in the recurring boot-up, mostly upgrade, run, reboot cycle that's been described in many places.
Didn't panic.
Booted into recovery again, and flashed the ICS Rocket Rom again.
But this time, it wouldn't go past the SAMSUNG logo.
Still, I could boot into recovery.
Which I did.
And I tried to restore my Gingerbread build from Nandroid.
Tried it. But it hung on the Samsung logo again.
With one key difference... Now, no matter how much I try, I can't boot into recovery.
I *CAN* boot into 'download' mode. So I've used PC Odin to try and inject a rooted Gingerbread rom into the phone.
The instructions tell me to wait for the phone to reboot twice. Sadly, it tries its first reboot, and doesn't get past the Samsung logo. And that's where it hangs. No recovery mode either.
What shall I do??? Oh, woe is me. Etcetera.

UPDATE
--------------------------------------------------------
I found a version of Abyss 4.2 kernel in tar format. I flashed it via PC ODIN, and I now seem to have a phone that can boot again.
Not much more to report at the moment, cos the battery is on about 3%, so I'm charging it now before delving further. Will give more feedback once the battery's up and running again.
Here's a link to the Abyss file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1072122&d=1337500067
I tried all of this, was on stock ICS 4.0.3 and had it rooted.
I tried to restore a backup which was sadly on GB and then the restore of /data failed
I then tried to flash paranoid custom rom and it was successful but the phone never went any further than SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000 logo
I then Flashed a direct rootable stock rom via PC odin and all was well but the phone would never go any further than the logo before mentioned
I tried flashing AbyssNote kernel via pc odin but the CWM recovery menu kept on rebooting hence leaving me with not particular choice to select
Tried wiping data, cache mem, dalvik cache but no use and now i am on stock recovery menu. please help me out
i have this Samsung i9220 china i try to flash upgrade the firmware with Odin3 v1.85 . i got stock phone can't power non recover modem non booting logo , does anyone have any ideas ?

[q] installing cwm recovery and cm9 on sgt p1000 india

Hi Everyone,
I have the Samsung galaxy p1000 tablet which is rooted and running stock firmware version 2.3.3 ....i have rooted it using doomslord toolkit....
.....I want to install cm9 on my tab....but i want to make sure everything is good before i start doing anything.......
i tried downloading overcome but download stopped everytime.......
i have downloaded overcome kernel 4.0.0.tar though.....
i want clockwork mod recovery on my tab.....how can i do that?
i am on stock firmware so do i need to restock it through overcome......or flashing the overcome kernel would do it all....
should i flash the overcome kernel only......is it feasible to use that kernel for stock firmware.....will the kernel convert tab into ext4 thereby making it possible to flash cm9
please help me over this......
Thanks..
I did that before, flash the kernel, wait for the conversion to ext4, reboot and flash cyanogen mod. For me it worked for installing AOKP mtd.

Thanks salahmed......but one more question...was ur stock firmware rooted when u flashed the kernel cause that's what is bothering me...and how do i return to my original device clean firmware once i am using cm9....
Thanks once again...

You can always restock using overcome stock safe.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA
I have some free time today and so i will flash the rom today.....
Are these the steps i should follow???
1. Flash the overcome kernel only without restocking....
2. let it convert the system into ext4....and let it reboot after it...
3. Then shut down the tab and press volume down and power buttons at the same time till the clockworkmod recovery shoots up....
4. Then navigate to ' install from zip' and select AOKP BUILD 37(decided to flash AOKP) zip file....let it flash and then flash kernel(which kernel should i flash????? or does the AOKP zip contain it and hence it should be automatically flashed)
5. Then flash gapps.....
6. when it's done ....reboot
questions....
when should i wipe dalvik cache and data( before flashing AOKP zip or after that)
?????
also i read somewhere that i can revert back to original samsung firmware by flashing original samsung firmware via odin with "repartion checked".....
After flashing overcome kernel go to recovery wipe cash, dalvic cash, factory reset format data, then flash AOKP, the kernel is included 'z image' , then reboot system let it to complete booting, then reboot recovery again and flash gapps.
And that's right you can revert back with re partition but I did not try it.

Tab p1000 boots to android recovery after aokp fail??

hi all
well after flashing my p1000m(bell canada) numerous time,i got adventurous and tried to flash ics .
AOKP SGT7 BUILD 40
updated to stock bell gingerbread,rooted.
used odin to install overcome kernal 4.0
installed build 40 thru cwm, everything seemed to go fine.
went into bootloop with aokp screen and some audio message.
tried to flash back to original bell gingerbread with pit file and repartition checked, all seemed to go well but now boots to android recovery.
i think the partitions are screwed up.
i have original bell gingerbread with pit.
unit charges, goes into recover and download mode so seems softbrick.
odin detects and always finishes with no errors.
tried all the usual un brick tricks but not working.
any help appreciated
Stock via Odin:
Which "stock" gingerbread rom did you use in Odin? Are you using Overcome's gb_stock_safe .tar?
Bootloops:
After first flashing AOKP #40, it should bootloop since it first needs to update the recovery version as well as convert to mtd. Did you then go back into recovery and flash AOKP #40 a 2nd time? The 2nd flash installs the rom.
Btw, is your p1000 gsm or cdma?
hi
got it solved by the overcome restock rom.
but i only flashed once.
now running aokp build 40 ,most apps fc,i will reflash and see if that helps.
thanks
You need to wipe before flashing AOKP (or even after flashing, no harm)
And never restore system apps from gb to pics, or across any dissimilar rooms.
