I recently bought a Dell Streak 7 4G T-mobile on eBay, how do I get a SIM card for it? I have never used a SIM-based telephony service and have no idea how they work. (I have always been a Sprint customer).
Any help will be appreciated. Basically, I would like an affordable pay as you go service. No contract.
I'm not 100% but prepaid might not work for mobile broadband

Buy a prepaid tmo phone and take the card out of it, weither or not it will allow data is an entirely seperate thing.
You CANT make normal cell type calls with the s7, it doesnt have the hardware for it. You CAN use voip calls fine though

They offer the same prices without contract, just go to store or call them. I'm on the $29/ month with no contract. This is for data only.
EDIT: The 4G model should have come with a SIM card. Did you check the slot?

Thanks. I bought the tablet on eBay. The seller didn't leave the SIM Card with it. I have checked the slot. Your plan will not work for me. Although it is not on contract, I doubt if my monthly usage will justify paying $29. I would rather pay for just what I use and load up as I go.

I have a rooted HTC EVO 4G and I use it as a Wifi hotspot on rare occasions. I have already done that with this tablet and it works like a charm. Considering EVO's poor battery life when used as a Wifi hotspot, I would rather want an affordable SIM solution.

So far as know T-Mobile does not offer prepaid plans by the minute; only by the data usage per month. Those pre paid cards are for voice phones.
EDIT: I mean they don't offer those by the minute plans for the S7.

I recently went on vacation and used my S7 on the freeway to look up stuff while driving. That is not possible with WiFi, and it is this convenience that really makes it useful. I use it with WiFi at home. The T-Mobile plan come with unlimited hotspot connections, although I have not used that yet. My plan is limited in MB, so I don't use it as a hotspot.

Hey all,
I was looking into buying a Streak 7 but the data plans at tmobile are just terrible comparing to lets say verizon on a xoom or galaxy tab. I mean 30$ a month for 200mb where verizon gives 1gb for 20$. I guess my real question here is does this thing use a lot of data? or will 200mb be good for web browing/engadgeting? I can tether from my phone but the whole point of me buying said tablet is to avoid that.

Yes,web connect plans are kind of pricey on t-mobile. Hopefully that will change. I get the 5gb unlimited for 40 due to having a phone line also (20% discount). But they offer specials all the time too. I think its like that because they include free tmobile wifi hotspots as well.
you could always buy on upsubsidized through dell or amazon.

Is it possible to take the DS7 SIM and place it in a unlocked 4G T-Mobile Phone and just use the Data?
I just want to make sure this is possible before purchasing a 4G phone.
I would think so since you can't call the streak...but I don't know if it would restrict ur outbound....I'm not really that smart just takin a stab at it

It should work, phone calls won't work in or out as they are disabled completely on the network end. In terms of the data I have no way to test it as I'm using my streak on wifi only
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
It will not work in either direction.
I have a rooted G2 on CM7 and the sim card out of it will not work in my S7, as for the sim card out of my S7 will not work in my G2 either.
It asks to log into my google account and says there is an authentication error.
On the S7 it will direct you in a browser to tmobile's website asking if you to sign up for a prepay plan.
That was my experience. If there are any other suggestions I am more than happy to try for you.

Really? I put my sim with a 4G 39.99 Dell Streak month plan in my girls hacked HD2 running Android and it worked fine, i could even text. I created a new Google account and everything all worked well. Once I tested it to verify it worked correctly she stuck in her T-Mobile Android Phone Sim from her Cliq and off she was. I stuck the Sim back in my Dell and everything worked as if I didn't even take it out. Of course the Dell and HD2 are hacked so i am not sure if this affects anything.

One disadvantage of doing that, the hd2 with the dell streak data plan loses the ability to roam off network. It's t-mobile native network or nothing. Not even t-mobile affilliates like i wireless (who have aws 3g running) are allowed.
For those of you planning to get the device with 32GB on Sprint, you are out of luck
I called Sprint to pre-order and they only have 16GB. The rep does not know if Sprint will carry the 32GB

I did order from the play store.
The reason I called Sprint for pre-order is that my line is eligible for update and I want to take advantage of the savings by renewing my contract.
If Google makes the 64GB available, I will go for it

If you order through sprint at the discounted and subsidized price, will the phone be locked into sprints network? If so, will sprint allow unlocking at the end of the contract?

Just get it on Google Play. It's cheaper there anyway. Why would you pay a contract fee when it's cheaper to go off-contract and get sim-only contract?

If it's the same as when i needed a SIM for an iPhone 5 a while ago, walk into a store and ask for a SIM. They wanted to charge me $50 for a SIM. I pulled the saddest sob story ever and the manager felt sorry and gave me one for free since it was my "first" time.
I used my dads upgrade! I get a 16 GB one for about $86. $50 rebate and selling my Glxy 3 for $80.

Does anyone know if the Nexus 5 that Sprint will be selling is unlocked?
I had a plan to buy it from Sprint, pay it off and then cancel my service with Sprint. (Don't ask why)
So I need to know if I can just take it and get it activated at T-Mobile after I cancel Sprint.
I'm definitely going to try and activate this sooner. My phone arrives today. Will check Sprint stores and Best Buy for the sim.

It sucks that they want to charge for a SIM. Maybe I can weasel out of it since my original plan was to just pay the $100 ETF and switch it to T-Mo prepaid. If it gets them more money, maybe they'll give me a SIM so I stick around for another few months out of laziness.
Basically I figured $100 to switch to TMo early was worth it since I'll be paying $30/mo instead of $80 and my contract has 4 months left on it. But if I can get the SIM for free and easily switch to TMo after the contract ends, I may just stick around for now.
The only thing that sucks is that 11/8 date. I could go to Walmart and get a TMo SIM tomorrow once my phone gets here but if I stay with Sprint a little longer, I'll only be able to play with it on WiFi until Friday.
Hmmm.....
I got won an auction for htc one $150 but it is untested. Like I plan on using it abroad on gsm so I dont care if it is blacklisted it isnt by the way according to swappa.
My only problem is even though the seller has stated the touch screen works fine and okayish in terms of wear and tear.
It is a completely untested phone otherwise.
My only concern is if I buy this at this price and how much will it cost to repair essentials which might not work
microphone, speakers, and wifi
thats pretty much it
the seller is a high volume trader with around 4000 feedbacks so I doubt he is lying about not checking the device himself.
the fact that these things dont work is an if
what do you guys think is it worth the risk? for $150 htc one sprint silver
Don't plan on using abroad, if I understand correctly, and I think I doo.

could you please clarify why? I did my research apparently sprint has gsm radios for international travel

this thread also allows you to unlock the sim for free
If your concern is the possiblilty of lack of 3g dont worry I live in a country where 3g wont come for another year
Well, apparently that may work, limitation being, if you wanna not use sense, the sim lock or unlock, is irrelevant.

Sent from my SHV-E120S using Tapatalk 2
Ahh if its prepaid you'll probably have to call the prepaid customer service and have them send you one. They'll do it for free too though! Or charge 1$. I've been on both ends of tmo before and never had to pay for a Sim!
wait until it's FREE, or a penny, maybe 99cents.
Or
you can tell them your sim stopped working, they can replace it for free.
I need to get one too, I should've bought one last month when it was 99cents.
But for now, i can just cut my microSim to nano size.
Or you can wait till you get the phone and (that come with the a sim card) take it to t-mobile and have them activate it.
Can/will they do that for a prepaid account?
