Hello all,
I am running now MIUI 1.9.2 Android version 2.3.5.
i want to install a custom kernel but forgot which bootloader i started from..
Froyo or Gingerbread? How can we know?
OR how can we get a gingerbread bootloader without wiping everything?
thx in advance!
You don't have to wipe anything.. just flash bootloader using Odin...you can download gingerbread bootloaders from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16374373&postcount=70 ... having gingerbread bootloaders is better

i got stuck while flashing dark kernel Odin failed, and when i got odin to pass after few attempts the recovery wasnt able to function [i tried to install miui as well and it stuck on the recovery also]
Have you flashed stock gingerbread?

You need to flash stock Gingerbread first.
This has to do with the bootloaders, Darky's v10.0 RC3 requires Gingerbread bootloaders.
If you flash your device with Darky's v10.0 RC3 without the bootloaders, it will not work.
i followed every step in darky's tut and i used a stock jvk rom before flashing
his kernel

Can't find a deodexed JVH with bootloaders.. preferably Odin flashable.
Also cracked my phone screen today! D: Shall definitely be buying the SGS2 now!
Yeah, I haven't seen one.
Just flash the firmware with bootloaders.
Then flash again with the deodexed firmware. Only takes another 2 minutes
Okay cheers and flash the deodexed rom via cwm?

Is there a CWM 2.3 ROM for flashing with CWM that UPDATES BOOTLOADERS? Im on darky 9.5...
No.
I'm not completely sure, but I think it's technically impossible.
Anyway, flashing with Odin is pretty straightforward.

Saw many how to froyo to cm7 . But I think bootloader of 2.3.4 is different hence diff version of clockwork mod might be needed also I am not rooted .
So is it possible to install cm7 without rooting ???
Thx

Do you have CWM recovery?

Recovery versions and bootloaders DO NOT MATTER. cwm is baked into the kernel. bootloaders are backward compatible.

I didn't flash to 2.3.6 from froyo. I let kies to update from froyo to gingerbread (2.3.3 or 2.3.4 i belive). After that i flashed cf root from chainfire to have root and cmw.

As far as I read about the brick bootloader on the forum if I flashed the official LPY from GB using Mobile Odin means I am still on GB BOOTLOADER even though I flashed the ICS CF-Kernel version?
