hello what next?

it was along time since i could have update my phone.
I have G1, and the last update i did was months ago, couldn't find the time to do it.
now i have two weeks off, i would like to update my phone.
i know that some of you will tell me search on the forums, i did but im confused:
my fw version is : 1.6, with cyanogen 4.2.15.1. the kernal version is 2.6.29.6-cyanogenmod.
i was looking around and understand that there is a new recovery i would need to install (i think i read it as amon ra???)
so to my question is what steps - more accurately, from where should i start update.
as i read on the forums there is kingklick & Cannon202 roms out. cause as i understand it cyanogen stop is support for android ( i read it on his blog - maybe im wrong).
so what steps should i follow in order to have a 2.0-2.2 update on my phone.
i dont need step by step, just if someone can tell me what kind of updates(files) do i need, in order to update my phone.
thanks for everyone who will be willing to help me
You don't need Amon-RA, it's simply preference. And as for 2.0-2.2 talk, if you mean upgrading to his most recent ROM's, read those development threads for instructions. It's pretty straight forward.
thanks for the reply
so do i need to upgrade inorder....
i mean do i need to upgrade first to 2.0-2.1-2.2 or can i go straght to 2.2 from 1.6?

[Q] New and confused, two questions

Okay, recently my phone has been getting on my nervs as time passes and my branded phone doesn't seem to be getting an update anytime soon. I heard of darky's rom and i thought i'd give it a try, and i'm currently in the process of doing so.
Before I continue with a few steps though i would like to kindly ask if anyone here could help me with a few questions, i'm doing my best not to wreck my phone.

[www].darkyrom.[com]/community/index.php?threads/guide-installing-darkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
These are the guides i am following.
Q1: Rooting, do i need to root my phone before following the second link? Or is that stuff already inlcuded?
Q2: My phone is branded, any steps i need to do before continuing?
Q3: Do i need to format my phone before continuing?
Q4: Final question: is it okay if i'm on windows 7 64 bit edition or is this rather unsafe?
Thank you very much
If you must install that rom ask Darky read Darkys posts and FAQS .

New with Nexus One. Need some guide

Hi there, i bought recently Nexus One. As I discovered it is Vodafone version of N1. So as You guys know im stuck on Android 2.2.1. I would like to go stright to Gingerbread or CM7. And here is my question. (i know i could serch the forums for answers but many can be outdated or i just dont understand something). You guys are pro's so you will find solution for me maybe in seconds, where i will be serching this for hours.
Ok, questions:
- Can i root my phone using a oneclick? (If i will go fot CM7)
- If i would like to go for offical, stock updates, can i use PASSIMG method from wiki? So then i shuld just download downgrade (FRG33 as i remeber) and, step by step upgrade it to gingerbread, or i must do something before it ?(like downgrading to shipping version, mentioned at wiki before passimg method, im a bit confused). Will i get updates then from google and i wil be mo longer depended to Vodafone?
I will be grateful if You will answer my questions or just dp some quick guide. And sorry for my horrible grammar.
Yes, I also bought a Nexus One with a non standard ROM. Like you said you can use the PASSIMG method to downgrade to a stock froyo ROM (i.e. FRG33) and you will be able to then upgrade OTA stait to 2.3.4.
Best to do some research so that you understand all the ins and outs. Check the wiki.
As Dirk said, the best place to start doing your research is on the WiKi. After you have enough information to ask more specific and focused questions, then we will be able to help you a bit better.
PS. I would recommend just using the standard fastboot OEM unlock method of device unlocking and something better than stock such as CyanogenMod since you're new to the phone. You won't be able to relock the bootloader, but if you're not returning it, that's not an issue.
The answers are:
- Yes.
- Yes, no, yes.

[Q] Vodafone Nexus Stock to > Custom Rom Instructins Please

hi guys i need to know the basic instructions from scratch, with links to the needed files. i need the safest possible way to do this. am looking to update with a hybrid Sense and a stable android 2.3.3 fully working.
This rom looks excellent, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123997
first time with good knowledge of the subject. however simple and safe instructions needed
thanks in advance
ps. i looked at other post but there are too many methods and am confused as Sh*t
Ok well do you want to unlock the bootloader or keep it locked? Cause there are methods to do it with or without.
Also sorry for my ignorance but what is the base android version for the vodafone ROM.
well am not sure if i should unlock the bootloader of what the benafits are but can you upload a tutorial video or text thanks
Well unlocking the bootloader will give you access to fastboot which can come in handy if you get into trouble and can flash a few things (but very few) that you can't via recovery. The down side is that it will void your warranty if you still have some left and it will wipe your phone.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445 at this moment.
use this guide to root and flash your room
just replace the CM7 rom with your rom at the last part

[Q] Root-ing Samsuns Galaxy S 2.3.4

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong place, I read around the forum and couldn't find anything related to rooting a SGS with 2.3.4 .
Please be patient with me I am new at this, but i read about the fact that rooting your phone can drastically improve your phone's performance as well as get rid of those annoying adds in the apps and it grants you the ability to use cracked apps. So my request to this fine community is: Can someone please post a complete guide on how to root a samsung gaalaxy s running 2.3.4 or post a link to such a guide? And please keep in mind I don't know a lot of things about this so i could really use a detailed guide. I want to thank you in advance for your time and your patience.
I'm not blaming you but you could have done a little reserch before

If it helped you -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\/
Thank you for your post, I will try this guide and give some feedback, once agian thank you.
I would also like a guide on how to unroot the device and go back to my current software ( 2.3.4 XXJVQ) in case something goes wrong. Once again thank you for your help and your patience.
google my friend
if it goes wrong it's not cause of the root. juste try another firmware.
One last question: I just read that rooting and flashing are 2 different things. Does this mean that once I follow the guide posted above(which says its rooting but once i read a bit it actually seems to mean flashing) I will have full right on my phone or do I have to root it afterwards ?
Actualy this is just about rooting.
if you want a flash :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259240
It won't be rooted after this. Apply the first tuto for root.
