[Q] unrooted phone won't even turn on. Stuck on "S" screen. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My sister's Captivate is unrooted, and completely stock. This morning, all of a sudden it won't work. When you turn it on, it boots until the screen with the "S" on it, then you can't get past that. Eventually the screen turns off, but if you touch the capacitive buttons, they light up. Nothing else works. The only way to turn it off is to take the battery out and then you turn it on and the process starts all over again. Does anyone know what the problem might be or how to fix it?

Can you get into download mode, and is it under warranty?

what's download mode? and how long is the warranty? If it's a year, then yes. She got it in January.

If you have a local warranty center, take it in. If you cant get into the phone, they cant tell if its rooted.

HTC Diamond won't turn on..

Hey.
My Diamond seems to be dead. Yesterday and this morning it seemed to be working just fine. Then it begin taking a lot of time to get the screen on and now the phone won't turn on at all.
When I plug in the charger, now, there is no light going around the d-pad, as usual.. The computer didn't even detect any new hardware when I connected it..
When I press the soft reset button nothing happens. I tried booting it to the tricolour screen, but as it doesn't even want to turn on it was to no avail..
Is there any way to repair it without having to send it to an HTC repair centre? 'Cause I'm afraid that is not option..
Or am I ****ed?
Have you tried pulling out the battery and leaving it for about 30 seconds then put it back in?
Yes. It still doesn't turn on.. ):

G1 Black screen, Cannot get to bootloader

Hey, I have been given a phone off a friend to fix but it wont turn on. Booting normally, I get a vibration and then the backlight comes on but i cannot see anything. When i try to boot into the bootloader by holding the camera button and powering it on, the backlight comes on but nothing else. I cannot see the bootloader. Under both circumstances, I cannot turn the phone off. I have to pull the battery to turn it off.
Does anyone have any suggestions about a possible fix? Thanks
Havie you tried send when trying to enter bootloader? If it resets then you can still get to bootloader. If not, your friend has soft bricked and only way is to JTAG which takes strong hardware knowledge and steady hands.

ok im having the exact same problem. actually i thought it was a battery problem so i spent 77$ on a 3700 mAh new batter i guess tripple life... and got it yesterday booted gave same problems. black screen where T-Mobile should be yet the rom loads with scribble screen meaning u see part but it looks like the pixels are messed up. so actually decided to resort to what someone told me a Factory Reset so Pressing Camera + Power i got a Black Backlight screen yet wont show... and I cant turn it off without Taking out the Battery this has become a issue after installing cyanogen 5.0.7 T5... since then i Re-rom'd to superbad 1.2.5 same problem screen scribbles and stops im thinking did I fry it i dont even know how to google my problem because its pretty unique it isnt a battery issue its something in the hardware ... or am I wrong please send us some feedback... ill keep this thread in mind
Sorry, what do you mean by 'send'. I am a complete noob when it comes to G1's. I have worked out i can shut off the phone by holding call + menu + end but thats it. I still cannot see anything at all on the screen. I still only get a vibration on boot. How would I know if the boot has been sucessful but i simply cannot see?
Could the flex ribbon cable be nackered?

Try pulling the battery for a minute. Then put it back in.
I'd make an insurance claim if you have it.

Screen wont display anything, notification light works, phone kinda turns on

I have a rooted VS980 with nameless rom. Just out of nowhere i went to turn on my phone screen and the screen illuminated like it wanted to turn on, but nothing came up. It was plugged in, charging. the notification light was working and told me i had a text. I held down the power for 20 seconds or longer and it seemed like thephone restarted, the screen went black and then illuminated again. But no LG logo, no nothing. I let it die completely before trying again, and i plugged it in and tried to turn it on withno avail.. No button combo works, im pretty sure the phone is just done. I didnt drop it or anything and i wasnt doing anything to it when it stopped working. If I hold the power down for a long period of time the red led starts blinking red. I dont know what to do, any ideas?

[Q] Help! Trying to troubleshoot and hopefully solve problems with HTC One.

Hey guys, could anyone shed some light on what's wrong with my phone?
The initial problem was that it would display a notice that the phone was going to restart, the phone would turn off but not reboot.
When trying to turn the phone on immediately afterwards, it wouldn't turn on. The first thing I tried was seeing if that battery was dead but even when I plugged it in, it still wouldn't turn on nor was the charging light on.
After leaving it for a while, I tried a hard reset but the phone would turn off after 2 seconds in the boot menu. After a few hours and a lot of expended patience, I got the hard reset done and it worked flawlessly for around 30 minutes then turned off again.
Right now, when I turn it on, it shows the HTC screen, the backlight for the icons at the bottom flashes around 10 times and it turns off.
Any idea what's wrong?

Kinda sounds like your power button may be sticking in. Is the device bootloader unlocked and rooted? Or still stock?

The phone has been unlocked to be used with SIMs other than from AT&T but it hasn't been bootloader unlocked or rooted.

Ok I would recommend you check warranty to see if it is still covered. To try a software solution will mean unlocking the bootloader which will void warranty. And may not fix the problem. As I say it seems like the power button is stuck in.
When the capacitive buttons flash like that it is because of a forced reboot by holding in the power button.
