Ok. I have read that DJ_Steve has left because people keep hammering him for source code of his kernel. I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but he has stated the situation quite clearly. He has no source for honeycomb. He wishes he did. All is Streak 7 users wish he did. He would be able to do even better work than he already has!
Read carefully.
Try to keep up people, this is gonna get real complicated.
DJ_Steve has no honeycomb kernel source code. As in none. As in, not any.
No source, no modify.
No modify, no post modified code to post.
No modified code, no GPL issues.
No GPL issues, no issues.
But you people still bellyache that he didn't post code. Um. News flash. He didn't have, and thus couldn't modify.
Answer me this, if you people are soooooo concerned about the good of the community.
Where is this source code, and why is DJ_Steve refusing to post it, of he has it?
I'm sorry, but developer, moderator, or whatever, if you people can't understand this simple situation, your far too stupid to be a benefit the android community. Please sell your android devices and go buy pretty Windows Mobile phones. DJ_Steve is right here, and your stupidity has lost this forum a developer who is a great asset. Well, good luck with that.
I doubt anything will be done to resolve your mistake, your probably far to busy with the source code police to actually understand this at all, but I hold out hope that there is a moderator with a brain who will try to fix this.

He is just venting. I bet everyone complaining for the source is already running his Roms. I wish there was a way to block them on the new site . . . .
Hell... I bet those of you who cried for a source wouldn't even know the first think about compiling.
Good job on running out one of the only devs !!!

Actually, my understanding is that he said he does have access to the source, but was unable to post it because it would reveal the person who provided it.
No he clearly started that a friend of his hacked the kernel so it would work with honeycomb but he has no access to the source. There is no source code for honeycomb yet. Someone is missing something here. Google hasn't release the source for honeycomb yet so no rules have being break here. And in the process we lost a great Dev and a few Android users.

Hey guys, looks like some nice work here. I own a Kyocera Zio and we recently had kernel source released. I am looking to Legend Devs because apparently our source code was taken mainly from the Legend. We are looking for someone to overclock out phone and I was hoping one of the Devs here would be willing to take a swing at our device?? We have a deidcated section here on XDA and our irc channel is #openzio. We would all apprechiate any help you guys could send our way. Our chipset is MSM7227 and we are FRG83 devices. So the Legend has a better chip set, but like I said our source code was taken mostly from the Legend. Hope we can all work together to own our device!! Thanks for your time!
I've included a link to our source code for anyone that wants to take a look .
http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/support/developers.htm
We are running 2.2.1.
Take a look at the htc-kernel-msm7227 repository (you could have easily found that one by using a search engine), specifically at commit c291a2.
We could also arrange you being fed everything else, just tell us whether you'd like a golden or a silver spoon.
(Note: This is a joke. I'm not actually going to feed you.)
He is so funny, our developer.....
If I had any idea how to overclock I wouldn't be here asking. Thought it would be a nice opportunity for someone here to help out. Thanks for being an ass tho, much apprechiated. That isn't a joke. Btw.

Learn. I gave you all you need to know. The rest is a matter of reading wikis and blog posts.
This is the development board, by the way.
hello everyone, I recently purchased a dell streak 7 and actually love it but have been disappointed in the lack of rom development for the device. it makes me feel like i purchased the device that nobody cares about. everyday i check the development section just to see the same post. there is never anything new so i was wondering why this sub-forum still open???? I dont think we really need a whole sub-forum just to see when dj steve releases an update for the same rom. One developer should not warrant a whole sub-forum. This makes me wish i would have hung on to my g-tab.

U can just as easily leave xda .... it takes time to pick up extra developers. Learn yourself and put out your own rom !!!
I've started on it myself..... I know a few others who have too.... learning takes time ! ALSO FYI, We already have 2 different froyo builds, 1 honeycomb build, and Ubuntu partially functioning. I've talked with 2 people who have already started trying their hand at gingerbread. Nothing official there yet though.
Most of us have jobs and families..... time isn't so abundant. If u have the time then do something about it and stop complaining
Donating to developers is also an incentive ........
PS
mods please move this where it belongs.
avoid Android - get an Apple device

I have been on the S7 forum from day one. Many of us tried doing what we could but it was DJ Steve who got EVERY S7 user excited about our tablets.
I truly believe that this entire situation got blown way out of proportion.
Well XDA, it was a pleasure hanging out.
Laterz....
AGREED!!!!
These people complaining about "Source Code" this and "GPL" that , is bull, when you are using a modified binary kernel, and not compiling from source, which is not available anyway, why is there any problem ...
Ok now to be fair, you MODS need to go into EVERY forum for EVERY device on XDA and lock/close/delete any thread with a modified binary, you know ALL the winphone 7 stuff, all the android apk's , and anything that is not 100% user created and that has no source code with it ...
Stick that up your GPL ass ...

Ok... I'm missing something but what happened to DJ Steve? I will do some searching but seriously Dell might have given us the hardware, it was Steve that made both the Streak 5 & 7 useable. If XDA did something strange to DJ Steve, why? I must have missed something.
DJ Steve, thank you for your work on the Streak & will be talking to Michael about you soon.

XDA enforces the rule that if you are working the GPL (public license), then you have to provide the source kernel. DJ Steve got the kernel through a "back door" of some sort, and could not provide it without revealing his sources. So XDA shut down his thread; he got upset and went to a different site.
XDA is very strict about keeping within copyrights & etc. (so as to not get sued), and not posting the kernel does violate the GPL, but he would have released it when Dell updates the S7 to HC. It is too bad, though.

This Question has been asked and answered more than once
I don't understand/speak english very well, but it seems it's like if all the dev who's working on the Note are fighting against each other, like children
I respect the devs and their work, but everything would be better if all the devs unite all together in order to do a great ****ing rom...
Whats your assumption based on?
I have big respects for all devs / chefs here. If it wernt for eyebe i wouldnt have solved some issues in the early days of my rom. Theres always healthy competition which is good for users and peeps who suffer ocfd.
And if someone is critical in a constructive manner then it spurs you on to perfect as best you can. Androids open source and that ideology is used in cutom roms. Share and enhance pushing the boundaries of whats avaliable and All for the benefit of the users on xda. In an ideal world eveyone would work on one rom. However its not and people like choice and variety and thats what you have here.

I don't get the impression that there's any bad blood in the dev forum, but if I had one wish, it would be that every dev would need to state their design philosophy (and perhaps some of their methods) in the beginning of the thread, to get a better feel if their particular product is for us.
Without ROM competition will not be a good product. All interested in promoting ROM developers will try to offer the best.
Yeah, one might think so, they are fighting against each others.
But if y ou read between the lines it is because some "devs" just don´t care about some sort of protocol.
"steal" ideas from each other without giving credits and so on.
It´s up to everyone themservesto judge this as childish or narrow minded, but it´s the opinion of those devs themselves which finally counts in the end.
I personally had it seen coming. so many differenz people working on same or similar project. It has been a matter of time that some Devs cross their lines.
I would love to have them having shake hand and to combine their powers to create an even more powerful project, but those people seem to have to be some sort of lone wolf to be creative in that way.
Anyway we´ll see what happens. And I guess many more motivated devs coming when official sources from samsung will become available to devs.
That will massively push ICS developement further for our device.

But shouldn't the people participating in the thread be informed? I am not contesting the Mods actions here, it is their site and they could do anything they like, but it is minimum courtesy to inform the participants that it has been deleted for so-and-so reason.

I think peeps need to chill abit its starting to get like an episode of eastenders in here
It is what it is. Mods have hard enough time keeping these forums clean i mean how many ics posts are closed daily how many non dev threads in dev section get placed all the time.
There are rules to avoid this if members could only be bothered to do a little reading first but peeps dont. Chas dyslexic thread was so true to the bone its scary and these peeps are flashing roms god help them
The devs try to push the boundaries all for your benefit. Why because you and i ask them to. No one here really cares who puts out the rom just as long as you can feed your addictions. Me included.
Ill always want to flash the latest and greatest and the only way to achieve this is competition by what ever means.
But remember no one can steal anything from anyone as it wasnt theres to own.

I have to admit. Everyday I used to visit a HD2 forum for a veery long time and everything was in order there. People used to obey the rules.
In GNote section there are a lot of newbies who don't even bother to get familiar with the xda's rules.
Soooooooooooooooooooo.......I am a patient person and I'm sorry I'm relying on others for this but w.e the point is every1 seems to be coming out with h multiple kitkat ROMs for certain devices...........maybe Devs should stop trying to produce an already produced ROM for devices like nexus, galaxy, htc and such and maybe focus on other devices........devices that actually NEED an update.......lik the NC? W.e I just see no interest in the nc on xda anymore. God I wsh I knew how to do this. Learn u say. Well that would take too long. On app, so not sure of the rules and where to post. But considering its dead most of the time lol hopefully I won't get banned. My point is its ridiculous considering the majority of people don't even have these hi end devices and I think its selfish for the focus to just be on these devices. Impo. Some1 start it up plz. And stop stalling.

It has been a long standing tradition in the nook color community to not release binary build of new android versions for a few months. This allows all the bugs to be worked out by the devs before anyone else has access. At least one person bricked their nook on the ics or jb alpha builds, so this tradition is to protect from that. This also encourages end users to get into the development scene. I myself am going to be building my own cm11 over Christmas break and am going to be building for my phone, all because of this tradition. So quit complaining that nobody gives you what you want and build it yourself. Who knows, maybe you will keep this device alive after all the other devs have left because you built cm11 yourself.

It is easy to compile cyanogenmod, but what stops you from doing it? For the first few months when a new rom comes out, the developers make it so only DEVELOPERS AND BUGTESTERS can have at it, and see what bugs there are, and what improvements they can add to the code. This is meant for the common user(YOU) to install the rom, and have no(maybe some) problems from when they first boot the rom. From then on more bug fixes are made, and the rom becomes stable for daily use. Experimental roms can be extremely dangerous, and can even brick an entire device(Anyone here remember the AOSP incident with Mateorod?)
And please next time you rant, try to use proper grammar, and using slang doesn't really help your point very much.

Learn i say, and do it yourself.
Why aren't you complaining to the manufacturer?
Why are you so demanding from people who are developing by hobby and they make their work available for free?
Try to answer these questions and then you will understand why people are saying to do it yourself.
