My phone just fell into water!
I immediately took it up and when drying it the phone responded to the touch screens but then it shut down,
i took out the battery and dried it from the outside and now im doing it from the inside with the hair-dryer,
Any suggestion of how to dry it more?
dun dry it with hairdryer cos u may melt the solder or anything inside the phone. put the phone in an airtight container with rice and wait patiently! otherwise, send it to 3rd party people to help u clean

yes,
the most critical part was to take the battery out as soon as you got it off the water to prevent short circuit
don't rush it let it dry naturally at room temperature
hair dryer could damage the phone (but again we know the phone have survived the ove trick and hair dryer trick, so it should be okay)
take out all the parts, battery, cover, etc
if you are a technician open up the phone, and use compressed air spray cans, but watch out to not freeze the phone.
best results if you have an air compressor machine at home and use it to blow dry the phone
let it rest under the sun or a projector lamp for an hour and check to make sure there are no more water vapour trapped under the screen
once everything is confirmed dry, you can put it back together and hook up the battery, the phone should work back to normal now.
i hear throwing it in a bag of rice really sucks the moisture out.
As told, first step is ALWAYS to remove the battery and let it rest and dry for a period.
You can put it in a bag of rice (it absorbs humidity) and keep yourself from "testing the device" to ofter... let it rest for (at least) an 8 hours under warm and dry temperature in a bag of rice.
i put in a jar rice, and put the phone between the rice with the jar open,
I will keep it like that for 24 hours and hope that at the end it powers on. Is 24 hours enough? do i have to close the jar or keep it open?
Thanks for the support, I really need it right now
aww poor fella... i nearly dropped my phone in a toilet bowel once... imagine that....
Aw that sucks mate. As other have said putting it in a bowl of rice is ment to be a good idea as the rice absorbs all the moisture.

My old Omnia2 fell down (drawn) in a toilet and survided using the methods above. Give it time to dry... don't rush to test
heh, mine fell into a bathtub full of water... took me about 5 seconds to get to it, was getting the baby out of the tub.
No water inside or in the battery compartment, dried off the outside and went about my day, didn't hurt it one bit.
الحمدلله 24 hours later i tried to power it on after putting it in rice, and it worked! its like nothing happened, everything works!الحمدلله
Thanks of the suggestions and the nice replies guys .

You need to leave it off for a long time (days). Take it apart as much as possible, put it in a bowl of uncooked rice and leave it.
Given what you have said your phone could be dead already.

This. although there is a small chance it is salvagable.
I would leave it in rice and also if it's sunny, leave it in the sun.
Before you do this though, dismantle it as much as possible. Even if you have to unscrew some bits, it may help (careful not to do too much that you can't put it back together).
Also, resist the temptation and wait at least 2 days before trying to turn it on again.

It will very probably still get corroded inside and will lose its functionality. Cleaning the parts with distilled water is the best way to fight this.

Hah! I've saved a few devices this way (phone, audio recorder) and given this advice several times with success each time, but I *never* thought to explain to people that it should be *uncooked* rice. That makes for an amazing image of someone screwing up instructions.

Anybody have any tips or suggestions on how to get moisture out? I know people say rice, a hair dryer, or alcohol but i need some good advice ....This is my precious :-(

Just as you stated. Those are the best solutions."I would avoid the alcohol"
I would use the hairdryer then put it it a bag of dry rice for several days maybe even a week. With the back, battery, sim, and sd card removed of course.

Avoid the hair dryer.
What kind of water was it dropped into? If it was relatively clean just shake it out pull the battery and submerg it in a bowl of uncooked rice for several days with no attempts of powering it on.
If it was beer or soda or something that would leave a harmful resadue your going to.want to rinse it out with distilled water and then dry it or in rice.

I had to fix three of my friend's phones when we went on a rafting trip and capsized in the river.. lol.
I took off the battery covers and removed the batteries, SIM cards, SD cards, etc. then buried the phones in a container of uncooked rice (brown rice actually works the best, I'm Asian woohoo). Then, with a CAREFUL eye, I turned on the oven at the lowest heat setting possible and stuck the container in there for maybe five minutes. After that, they were nice and dry and even now work flawlessly one device was the original Droid, too. And that thing was killed in the river lol.
It is not recommended that you use a hair dryer (not even on the cold mode) to dry out the phone. Using a hair dryer may force moisture further into the small components, deep inside the phone, as the air blows inward. And if it is too warm, it will likely melt them....If you want to try and suck the liquid out of the inner parts of the phone, try using a vacuum cleaner.
Be careful not to hold the vacuum too close to the phone, as a vacuum can create static electricity, which is even worse for the phone.

I would recommend uncooked rice in a container. also, try cat litter in a stocking or cheese cloth placed next to your phone in a container since cat litter is meant to absorb moisture. but i would try just putting it in a bowl of rice (i stress how important it is for the rice to be uncooked) and make sure you immerse the phone in the rice. leave it over night. make sure the battery is out and ofc, that its not plugged in.
i wouldnt use a hair dryer or alcohol.
You could also try desiccant packs (silica gel packs, like what comes in a shoe box), mixed in with the rice. I dropped an iPhone 4 in a bucket of soapy tap water used for cleaning windows and used rice, desiccant packs and very minimal heat from an oven (kept the oven door partially open, on lowest setting, with phone in zip-loc bag of rice and desiccant). The desiccant packs I used were from good ol' Wal-Mart, they are made by Winchester and I spotted them hanging behind the counter in the sporting goods department; they are meant to be used in a 5-7 cu. ft. gun safe, so they were actually as big as the phone itself and could be "recharged" by leaving them in an oven for 5-6 hours on low heat. The "5-7 cu. ft." part excited me, as I was probably using them in a 5-6 cu. in. zip-loc bag..
After all that, the iPhone worked flawlessly, minus water stains under the screen from that nasty, soapy tap water, so maybe dunking it in distilled water is a good idea as the screens on these phones aren't fused together with the outer glass, like iPhones. Best of luck and let us know how it goes/your method!
I would agree with deepsunn.. since you didn't do anything while the water was still fresh on the phone, it's all dried up. I'd actually get some distilled water and just drop it in there, battery and all cards out. Then proceed with your drying procedure. That should get rid of any dried spots or stains on the inside of the glass and on the screen.
Well the past couple of days of having it in rice, the screen now has completely stopped working so i guess its time to pony up and pay my ins deductable

hey,
I dropped my Samsung galaxy S Advance into my soup...(don't ask how..)
I dryed it with a paper but then i noticed that my sound stopped working and sometimes the screen responds really slow or not at all.
then i started using a hair dryer after i removed my SIM-card, sdcard and battery but it's still the same.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Put it in a bag of rice over night. The rice should absorb any remaining liquid. That or Put it in abag along with some of those little packets of beans you get with new shoes.

You must to put it in rice immediately, do not try it to use it, it was recommended to removed the battery immediately.
I'm saved 2 phone with that solution, Nokia X2 and Nokia E51.
I put it in a bag of rice immediately, now waiting for the results.

this is also a proof that our phone is well built. One night i lost my phone. 5 hours later i found out that it's missing, so came back looking for it. Found it in mud underneath the snow (it was snowing that night), could find it just because it was still ringing!. I immediately took the battery out, and when i came home i disassambled the phone to let it dry. 48 hours later i assembled it and it was working properly, but the job was not over cuz some vehicle obviously run over it while it was on the ground, so gorilla glass shattered. After replacing gg it's perfect again!

you were lucky that you are not rust, hence the rice does not save you.
---------- Post added at 09:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:57 PM ----------
rice aside, if the terminal is oxidized by water necessary to clean the damaged electronic connections with isopropyl alcohol before drying.
If you hace oxidation problems, maybe you can try the specific products to remove oxidation.
Totally forgot it was in my pocket and waded into the sea to get onto a boat. :silly: :crying:
I dried it out the best i could (packed it in rice). It turned on the next day and seemed to be working but quickly came up with the power off options (restart phone, kid mode, etc) and turned off by itself. After another 2 days of being in a bag of rice, either the back and home buttons flash every 20 secs without the screen turning on or the screen turns on like it's attempting to start but turns off again - like an endless reboot cycle. The back of the phone gets seriously hot after a while too.
Sadly, the vast majority of our holiday memories are on it and am wondering if there is any way these can be recovered? I'm assuming it's not (even by HTC).
If it's not, what's the cheaper option? Sending it to HTC in the hope that it can be repaired or replaced...or just buying a new one?
put your oven on 50 degrees censius, and let it there for a few hours.
It often works on hardware like motherboards and such.

Rice and a dry room. Dont know if it will work with a device with a fixed battery
Was it salt water? Fresh water is not so bad and you might be able to dry it out, but salt water is deadly to electronics (corrosion).

Well ive certainly never been in any sea that is fresh water!
Soak the device in isopropyl alcohol for a couple of hours to displace any water and to dilute any salt remaining in the device.
Leave the device out of the IPA for a day or two in a warm room then place the device in an electric oven at as low a temperature as possible overnight.
If that doesn't fix it it's broken beyond repair.
Or just claim on your insurance.

Hy today I was going home on motorbike and my phone was in jacket pocket ( jacket is motorbike, waterproof, never questioned that ) and suddenly it started to rain and I had no worry cause jacket is waterproof and many time I carried phone in jacket while raining,no problem at all.
But guess what.I arrived home and pulled out phone from jacket and I felt water on TPU case and bottom of case was soaked.
Immiditealy I had heart attack that water found her way into phone electronics and parts and I pulled out battery, sim card and memory card and dried phone with hair drier.
Then I switch battery with replacement battery and started phone. After LG logo apperead I was happy but no so soon, then LG logo flickered after showing it as it should be and black screen on left part of screen and artefact screen on right ( like when your computer GPU dies ) and I hear boot sounds and going into homescreen.
My questions is should I try to dry more or thats pretty much that what I could do ?
Did digitizer died or LCD screen ? Could they notice if I take it to warranty the water indicator like on Iphone ?
Guys please help, give some advice,I'm going insane
Strip the battery from the phone. Put both in a bag of rice. Leave alone in the rice in a warm place for 48 hours. Try to see if it works. If not then there's not much else you can really do.

Thanks for reply, last time mom washed my Nokia 100 and after leaving it in rice for 24 hours water withdrawed and now phone worsk flawlessly like before.
As I sad, phone turns on,shows LG logo as it should be,I hear boot sound and then one half of screen is black and other half has artefacts.
So my question is what could be damaged ( cpu, gpu, motherboard, lcd screen, digitizer ) ?
After spending 12 hours in rice,my phone works and everything is fine except rear and front camera.
They dont seem to work, they show some kind of artefacts, then it turns for a short period time and laggs and they I get error App has crashed etc.
Should I carry my phone to phone service or leave it for 24 hours more in rice, maybe rice will dry moisture from camera lens/electronics or are both cameras completely dead ?

Personally I would leave it in the rice for for a couple of days at least. My old Sony Ericsson took 3 days in rice to get back to full working order following it's short visit to the toilet basin.
You only need the slightest drop of water in the wrong place to create a short, which will cause your phone to act erratically.
I have my fingers crossed for you :fingers-crossed:

If you live in a cold place, keep it in for atleast 2 days. Also stop powering your phone on, it will reduce your chances.Try to get it to somewhere warmer
if you ask me, you made a mistake when you tried to dried it with blower
when it drooped into water, then right away turn it off, battery out, sim and sd out
then try to collect water as much as you can with tissue
then put in on rice, basically bury it in it so that phone is surrounded with rice all around
leave it like that for 2-3 days
then try to start it to see if you had luck to get the moisture out
Rice is a bad idea.
It will dry but the water from everywhere contains salt and minerals.
It will rust everything inba short periodo.
Run to a repair store and they will dissasamble and proper clear parts.

working perfectly, it has been half an hour i'm using it with minimum 800+ processor frequency so that it generate some heat,
everything is wroking,
and i wanna thank all of you for replying and helping... rice is the best method for it.
thanks a lot,
Regards,
The best method is actually to use the desiccant packets that come with electronic equipment, but I'm lucky to get lots of them through my job in case I ever need them. Rice is the best thing that almost everyone has easily available.

The best method is actually to use the desiccant packets that come with electronic equipment, but I'm lucky to get lots of them through my job in case I ever need them. Rice is the best thing that almost everyone has easily available.

a nice homemade trick to fix wet devices is, grab a container, half fill it with white rice, from a new package, and the put your device into the rice, of course without a battery and back plate, and the complete the container with more white rice, wait for two days and then, try to turn on your device, it will be completly dryed, i proved with several devices and always works again
yes, rice dried my device completely and I'm using it without any problem now
