I noticed, after installing the leaked D3 update, that Swype's language was set to spanish. Now, in general, it didn't seem to affect the typing any, but all of the Swype menus and prompts were en espagnol. So, I quickly changed the Swype language option to english and all was well.
Just yesterday, I noticed it was showing spanish prompts again, so I went back to the Swype options and it was still set to english. I switched it to spanish and back to english... no effect. Then, I switched the whole phone's language to spanish and back to english (which caused Motorola Home to FC, for some reason, even though I'm not using it), and then did the same for Swype again. Now it is in english again.
Has anyone else who's installed the update seen this?

Yes! I thought I changed it accidentally somehow

If Moto found that bug in their update, I suppose it might result in a higher build number with the current update that is undergoing soak testing. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Hello All,
I am attempting to work with Swype support, as I keep getting stuck in the DRM with the beta, which disables the product and pops up "registered on another device, limited functionality", etc.
They have said they have tested it throughly, and have been "unable" to recreate the issue.
I would like to show them how many people are experiencing this issue, and have simply abandoned the beta, and have gone back to the WORKING leaked prerelease.
Please post here if you have had any issue related to the Swype beta, and explain what you have tried to fix it.
THanks!

I don't know what the cause is but I do know how to fix it. Simply long press on any text input box to bring up the "text input" option and select a different keyboard. Once that is done, do it again only this time select Swype. Bingo, back in action.

Doesnt work for me, and I've been working with support and tried EVERYTHING (uninstall\reinstall, re-register, all the suggested fixes, etc)
I signed up for the beta, downloaded the file and installed it. I could swype all day and nothing appeared in the text box. Installed one of the previous unreleased versions and it worked fine, uninstalled and tried the beta again with same failure mode. Swype doesn't make it easy to comply with their requests to use approved software.
Both Swype support and myself have no idea why, but we were finally able to get Swype up and running on my phone.
Huge thanks for Brian from Swype support for his help, and I recommend anyone having issue to contact their support to see if you can get the issue resolved.
The app has a somewhat complicated (encrypted) registration process, and somehow that was not completing successfully, so def let support know if you are running into similar issues
This happened to me too. I gather it happens every time I install a different ROM, I need to contact Swype to get my Beta account re-authed.
Stuff that, I can't be bothered, I'll just wait until the paid version comes out.
Thought I'd give it another try and still get the "Limited Functionality..."...As usual with restricted access, DRM, etc, it is the ones who try and follow the rules who lose...the pirates will always find a way. Back to the leaked version for me, I guess, though I do think the HTC IME keyboard is still faster and more accurate.
I also get the "limited functionality" message, but only occasionally.
I haven't tested this hypothesis, but seems like it only does this to me when I am at home--and when I'm at home, I'm usually on wifi.
Maybe there's some kind of DRM that didn't take into account that people may occasionally switch from 3G to wifi connections.
If I had more time I'd try messing with it a bit, but I'm just headed to sleep.
There's probably a call home check on first application start up. When you wipe or switch ROMs, that will be cleared, but their servers already have the product registered.
Try backing up the app-data for Swype in between wipes/ROM updates.
I got the "limited functionality" message every time, no ROM updates between download and install. I even reinstalled the installer, redownloaded, etc and it just doesn't work. Glad it didn't work, because it convinced me to go back to HTC IME which is faster and more accurate for me.

its from the other swype thread and this worked for me.
hope for the rest also
well, after some time testing and thinking about this issue i found out whats the cause of it, it happens after rebooting the phone, the reason for this is that rooted roms zip align newly installed apps which changes a lot of things in the file, and i think that the registration process requires the main apk to remain unchanged, maybe someone can contact swype developers and tell them about this and hope that they can find a solution for it.
I have confirmed with a swype tech that there is a registration\call back home immediately following the install of the apk. If successful it will have a quick spinner stating "reristering swype" and the ask you to "enable swype".
I, unfortunately, seem to have major issues getting it to actually call back home, where it states "Swype has already been installed. please uninstall and try again" (I had previously uninstalled it).
In the end, had to revert back to the leaked versions

Ive tried MULTIPLE times to uninstall and reinstall swype w/o rebooting, so I think it wouldn't have a chance to zipalign until the next reboot.
Kind of sad that Swype hasn't gotten back to me yet
Somehow, I am using the Beta version I downloaded myself. I was trying out Super D for a week which is when the Beta was open, later I went back to Dwang and Swype broke when using the Beta installer but I got it working using AppMonster. Here's the steps I followed over that time:
- Wipe phone and install Super D
- Install AppMonster from Market
- Sign up for Swype Beta
- Download SwypeInstaller and install Swype Keyboard
- Perform backup with AppMonster
- Wipe phone and install Dwang
- Download SwypeInstaller and install Swype Keyboard
At this point I got the "Limited Functionality" message
- Wipe phone and install Dwang again
- Install AppMonster from Market
- Restore backup of Swype with AppMonster
Now I can go into Settings and enable Swype in the usual way. I have been using it without a problem for a couple of weeks now.
What solved it for me
I had Swype installed and working on a G1 with Cyanogen latest but after an uninstall it stopped working for me with the same error messages as described here in this forum.
What solved it for me is not pushing the done button on the touch screen after the package install but pushing the back key on the phone. This got me in the registering Swype screen after which the swype installer crashed. Swype is fully working however using these steps.
just go back to installer , log in and reinstall. Everytime i flashed a new rom i did this. I found out u can do this 10 times, before they cut u off. Obviously they know whats up?!
obviously i like the real beat with vibration option and more stable. im using now the final pre release that was made available in a couple posts above mine. no vibration, but it works. this keyboard is fantastic!
I have tried a couble of gingerbread roms and love the full language support in both menus and keyboard.
Now I'm on ota gb 2.3.3 to check if my battery can last more than half a day.
But ota has only a limit number of language support.
Is it possible to grapp the keyboard application from cm7 or another Rom and install on ota to get more language support in keyboard?
Thanks

Yeah im wondering the same thing, was so happy when i saw that 2.3.3 was gonna have a bunch of new languages, including swedish and thats what i really want. But since i installed the OTA for my nexus one i only have english =(
Just an quick update.
There seem to be a couple of multi language keyboards on market after all.
I use "Keyboard from Android 2.3".
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moo.android.inputmethod.latin.free
A friend is using "MultiLing Gingerbread Keyboard"
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.klye.ime.latin&feature=search_result
Both works great.
i share my captivate with my chinese fiance and would like to know how to keep the phone english but have the ability to text in chinese for her. is this possible?
i did search the forums but they seem to have chinese and want english. i only want to text in chinese? how can i do this?
I beleive the gingerbread keyboard from the android market has the ability to switch languages by swiping the space bar. (Its in the settings and you have to enable it)
Give it a shot
edit : And I gotta say, its pretty cool to be able to type in Chinese. I kinda wanna learn it LOL
many of the swypes in the custom roms now have 32 languages available
thanks supaphreek and TRusselo. im running froyo and i guess its time to update to gingerbread to get those languages. does kies provide it (GB) now? i have to unrooted to run kies mini, right? anything else i have to do before running kies mini?
i want FF3.0 also so i guess this is the week i will have to fix or break my phone.lol
my first new ROM, i am so scared to brick.
Install Google Pinyin ime from the market. Easiest way to get Chinese input. Works in any version of android.

You don't need to flash an entire new rom or even GB to get this feature. Its as simple as opening the market on your 2.2 or even 2.1 device and downloading an application called "Keyboard from Android 2.3" developed by Steven Lin. Once youve installed it, go into settings > Locale and text > (Now check the Gingerbread Keyboard box) and then go into Gingerbread Keyboard settings > Input languages > here you would select what languages you need.
FYI, i dont think this application has any chinese languages... but then again, i cant read chinese so im not really sure, i just dont recognize any chinese symbols.
There may be another app or a language pack that could help you out.

i cant access the market. im in china using my fiance's sim chip. when the chip is in her crackberry it runs internet but in my captivate it says unable to open page. however, when i go to a hotel lobby i can run wifi and my browser (cant run wifi on my home router because as TRusello explained to me some chinese routers run on channels higher than 12 and this is the case with my router.) i dont know how to change channels on the router.
i read some post that said google will start banning rooted phones. is this true? if so, should i unroot to use kies or access the market. i ask because i am going to hong kong next week where there is uncensored internet and hopefully i can access the market after buying a ten dollar sim offered in vending machines.

i would download that is there is a site with an apk but since i have no market access i can only get apps by apk download. if you know where to get that i would surely donate to the developer.

that's an ime make by baidu.com aka the chinese google, and host by them. not sure if the ui has english, but guess ur wife can figure it out if she knows how to type chinese. That should do the trick before u get to hong kong. On the side note you probably need to set up the apn to get edge access in china depends on ur carrier. and no 3g for us phones on china mobile since they use some unique 3g network designed by themslves. if u know what ur carrier is i can help u to look up the apn.

she is on china mobile.
i found a way to access android market in english even though its a chinese site:
https://market.android.com/?hl=en
i am wondering if i make an account, will google recognize my phone imei and prohibit me from having a usa and chinese android market account. my chinese account would have a different login and phone number but like i said same imei number for my phone. does google check imei's?
why does everything have to be so backwards in china?
also, we can get texts in chinese but can only send texts in pinyin (romanized form of chinese.) so at least we are not totally without communication,as far as texting, and her mom knows pinyin but her dad doesnt.

that's the faster apn setup for china mobile. As far as the market just use the same google account is fine, at least that's how it was working for me last december when i was in china on china mobile. I couldn't view the suggested apps etc... but searching and downloading from the market was fine.

Use MultiLing Keyboard
It is on Market. Free. Many languages with dictionaries.
This crazy problem started last week with my Galaxy S running Serendipity ROM.
Now, when I want to compose a text or email with voice, it isn't using english. I thought it was Spanish at first (no I can't speak Spanish). But sometimes it's typing different words or even numbers for the same words I speak.
I say "this is a test", and I get, "nosotras". As I'm typing this, it is now typing the same thing for the same words. It wasn't doing that yesterday. three times I got three different responses.
I have made sure that English is selected in settings. the only thing I can think of that has changed in the last couple of weeks (months even) is I re-installed Google voice app. The problem started a day or two after that, the best i can recall. I've been running this ROM since I first got the phone two years ago. I don't install new software very often.
So, what's going on with my phone? Some crazy virus? Has the phone become self aware and decided to toy with me? Voice text is one of my most favorite features, i really want it to work again.
Try clearing the data in the 3 voice programs and maybe Google voice too.
Which program are you using for your speech-to-text conversion? I'm using Google Voice myself, but I don't see any built-in conversion software. Is it tied to the keyboard program you're using?
If you can't get anything else to work, you can try the newest Swype beta; it has Dragon conversion software built in, and in my experience, it works pretty well.
I'm not sure what program it is. It came with the Serendipity ROM. I'll have to dig around and find out.
How/where would i clean my programs?

Go to settings - applications - manage applications, then find the individual applications. Click the app, and then the "clear data" button. That will reset the offending app's data.
Thank you very much. clearing the data worked. I hope it stays fixed. I think the one that fixed it was clearing the swype keyboard. I never liked the swype KB, I should just remove it if it's going to cause trouble.
Thanks again.
Hi, I just got a Samsung Galaxy Ace duos, and i installed the facebook app on it... now i noticed that the Bengali language font is not supported (boxes show up instead of the characters)
Now i think its the fault of the phone, not the app, since i can see the text all right on the facebook app on my sony tablet s ...but the odd thing is that i know that the phone supports bengali text, cz when i first bought the phone it had a bangladeshi sim card in it, and during inital set up when the region selection option came up, 'bangladesh' was written in bengali... but i selected united kingdom cz i wanted my phone to be in english....(yeah i know it wasnt language setting, but i couldnt risk having the whole phone in bengali permanently)
well anyways i dont have bengali in my languages list, just english and korean and some different forms of arabic....and i have no idea how to bring it..total newbie
So basically my question is.... how do i get bengali support on my facebook app?
My phone isnt rooted, and i think its still running...gingerbread...but ill give more details once someone helps out
Sorry for the super long post, just wanted to give as much info as possible
