[Q] Generic firmware for X8, 015 baseband - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I have recently acquired an X8. I have an x10 mini which I sucessfully flashed to a generic stock 1.6, I had to do this because my carrier does not allow updates via SEUS, and they wanted to charge me for it.
Anyway, I´ve been searching the forums, and I havent been able to find generic 1.6 firmware, and if I did, the details werent clear so I didnt realize that is what I was looking for.
Can anyone give me a hand here? any bookmarks laying around that can guide me to what I need? The tuts for X10 mini are more than clear, I am already familiarized with all the tools and procedures, just need a darn firmware!
Thank you in advance!
EDIT: Sorry, thought I was on Q&A not development. If someone can move it I´d appreciate it, the downside of multiple tabs

[Q] Changing ProductCode

Hi, with the latest update of Kies looking like its required for the Froyo update, I'm struggling to update my Galaxy S to an unbranded firmware.
Does anyone know if its possible (and how) to change the productcode of your device? I'm assuming if you can do this to one of the many ones mentioned on this site, then Kies would work without problem?
Any advice much appreciated (have conducted a search and can't find any way to do this so far).
Thanks.
Have you read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780509 ?
I'm an idiot. No, my searches didn't lead me to it, which is somewhat embarrassing...
Thanks for pointing it out.
Andy.

[HOWTO] root Koodo version of Optimus One P500h 10v

!!ATTENTION!!
THIS INFORMATION HAS BECOME OUTDATED.
There are probably newer and easier ways of accomplishing your goals that are now available. Read the entire thread for tips from other people about how to get your phone rooted - their suggestions are likely to be better options for your needs. I will not be maintaining this thread, but I will leave it up as a record for others to read. Good luck!

Original Post:
Hi. I had trouble getting my Optimus One from Koodo Mobile rooted. So, here is some info that I hope will help others get through the process a bit faster. I mainly followed the instructions in various threads from XDA, but I needed to do things differently.
!!! REMEMBER, THIS IS INFORMATION FROM A BIT OF A NOOB. I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP.
!!! ALSO, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR ANYTHING GOOD OR BAD THAT COMES FROM APPLYING WHAT IS SAID IN THIS THREAD.
!!! THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY INTENDED FOR USE ON THE OPTIMUS ONE FROM KOODO MOBILE RUNNING FIRMWARE VERSION 10v.
It is probably not worth asking me any questions, since I barely got through the process properly myself.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Drivers
So, first I installed the LG PC Suite software because I think that gets you the USB drivers needed for this phone. I think LG calls it "Download LG Mobile Support Tool to PC" on their support site at:
http://www.lg.com/sg/support/product/support-product-profile-mobile-redux.jsp?customerModelCode=Optimus%20One%20P500&initialTab=drivers&targetPage=support-product-profile-mobile-redux
Telus 2.2 firmware version V10G_00
So, since android 2.2.1 is not rootable on Optimus One, I had to downgrade to android 2.2. I found a link to a Telus version of P500h that is android 2.2 at the following link (make sure you download the one that ends in "V10G_00.kdz"):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12253960#post12253960
Installing Telus firmware using KDZ
I followed steps #2 through #8 from the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881
KDZ worked well, just so you know.
Rooting
Now I used "z4root" to permanently root. It was super easy (way easier than rooting my MT3G Slide). z4root is NOT in the market anymore so you need to sideload it onto your SD storage, then install it with any apk manager.
This site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
led me to this site, where I downloaded z4root from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
After that, I was all rooted up... finally.
So, I obviously am NOT trying to take any credit for the real efforts made by others. I want to say thank you to all people involved with the links and programs I referred to. I really appreciate what people do for others here at XDA. My phones would not be rooted or other kinds of fun without those people.
THANKS!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a bit of a side note, you might want to unlock you phone too... so you could use it with FIDO, etc. So, I used a site called "mobileincanada". It was $20 and took less than 24 hrs to get the code. I was happy with that.
Nice write-up, I had to follow a similar path. The most trouble I had was finding a firmware that worked.. I ended up using the same TELUS firmware. It works great, much faster than the original Koodo firmware.
Sorry for my question: what is the difference between your P500h and the other P500 devices? is it a branded device with special firmware?
I thought, all P500 can be flashed with every P500 *.kdz (for country) or XDA ROMs
for P500
I wished you wrote this yesterday but thanks. I figured it out yesterday . This is the sickest 150$ phone I have ever had. I get 1100 quadrant score :O
If you want a stock, rooted 2.2.1 (Telus V10S - same as Koodo's stock V10v)
You'll need a custom recovery to flash it: [DEV] Custom Recovery P500/Thunderg

this may be off topic but what are the custom roms that you can flash to p500h? any one tried installing one?
Thank you, I thought I broke the phone when I flashed V10A_00, it wouldn't boot into screen. Telus one indeed is nicer than Koodo's.

Thanks Kwen! This is very useful - now no need for the kdz updater.
Edit: or now we can keep the Koodo version of 2.2.1 and just root it using Gingerbreak (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765) - no KDZ needed, no recovery needed (prior to root). Obviously, recovery is still recommended after root.
the only question that i have is where can i GET the stock 2.2.1 for my provider? i'm with Koodo, and i live the custom roms, but i need to flash back to stock to see if i can get my mms working correctly again. and i apologize in advance if this is the wrong thread.

Carrier specific firmware?

Hi all, have been searching the net and these forums but so far, not come up with a result.
I have a galaxy mini as my spare phone and rooted it when I got it. I then managed to semi brick it and bring it back to life but the only firmware I was able to get on there was the Carphone Warehouse one.
I'm on Three UK and the phone is locked to three. What I would like is to be able to get the official three firmware back on the phone but the only one I found was an old froyo one which didn't work for some reason when I tried flashing with Odin. It got just to the end of the download part but didn't actually flash beyond that point and the phone wouldn't boot etc etc so that's when I resorted to the CPW firmware.
As I am having some issues with the phone, that's why I would like to be able to get it back to completely three firmware as I suspect my problems are down to the wrong one.
Sorry to be long winded and sincere apologies if the answer is already here somewhere but I really cannot find it.
Thank you in advance.

I have yes. I've looked all over, can't find anything. I did find one for 2.3.4 for three uk but unfortunately when I clicked on the link, the file had been removed. Can't remember if that was a link on SamMobile or another site now though.

You have been looking at the wrong pace the whole time : try looking at http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com
OR,
Follow this direct link http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/official-samsung-firmwares.html
Thank you so much, you're a star. Now to download what I need.
Alison
Oh dear, it appears the only gingerbread rom for three is Italy and I'm uk. The uk one listed is the froyo one that I have already tried. Will download it again and try it but don't think it will be any different to before.
What a shame. Wonder why there isn't a gingerbread one for three uk when there is for Italy.
Thanks for trying though, I do appreciate it.
Aliso
ya me too, need one for 3 for UK, the gingerbread ver 2.3.5
can we get that from anywhere?

[Q] how to change the firmware?

hi, im new here, but i have a lot of experience flashing in my xperia x10. I've been reading about downgrading, upgrading firmwares between 10a to 10h, how to do it? is better to have one than another? i am not able to root my phone in my current firmware (10a), could i if upgrade to another one? thanks
How about searching and reading first, rather than expecting people to spoon-feed you the answers like a kid at school?
Go search, go read, go learn. Dont make noob topics.

Once that you know that firmware is changed by flashing, you already know some "key words" or "tags" to search a little

Just bought some weeks ago my S5 and now I've the update Lollipop reminder everyday.
I just had an bad experience with my last HTC, so now before going to Lollipop I would like to save my current and original ROM.
I've searched on Google and seen some people saying to use odin and oders CWM.
Can someone help to get my original ROM downloaded from my phone?
MY PHONE IS NOT ROOTED, can we do it anyway?
thanks in advance

Hello. You can download the Original Stock ROM from Sammobile. Note down your Build Number which you can find Under Settings->Phone Info. Then head to sammobile and search for your Version, and download it. Beware that updating to lollipop, your baseband and Bootloader will change. You will also need the BL and Baseband for Kitkat, which you can find here on XDA,there is a collection just search for it
I know about that.
I've done it using Odin on my Samsung ACE2, but found different from original ROM!
One time I've upgraded to version 4.1.2 and it was so slow, that I had to downgrade again.
Just found Russian ROM to downgrade and it's a little different from my country.
If there is no option, so I will let the S5 go to Lollipop!
Let see if I don't get Camera problems, GSM or Wi-Fi.
I will cross fingers!!!
thank anyway
Already let my phone to update to Lollipop and.....
1st impact..... I DON'T LIKE IT!
the green-blue background colour is terrible.
why not possible to change this theme, to black for instance?
the biggest negative problem is that I can't get write access to my micro-Sd card.
read in a lot of sites that wire access will be given to 3rd parties apps, but NOT TRUE!
does someone that has Lollipop has wire access to sd card with 3rd partie app?
thanks mate

because its not their job to pander to everyones needs. theyve used the same skin and color scheme for years now and its up to you to do research into what phone you want to buy and how it looks. the update has been out for so long that you could have seen its looks before you upgraded
