Currently wondering what the value for "ro.sf.lcd_density=" is by default.
It appears that it is 240...but the fonts did not work properly other than DroidSans.
Did yet another Factory Default to fix it.
lcddensity app works on the thrill and says 240. I changed to 220 just for personal preference.

I consider this to be the best change I've made to my phone, dropping the dpi setting in build.prop from 240 to 200. You can fit so much more on screen, menus look awesome and you can always tweak the font size in individual apps if it's too small.
It always shocks me how huge everything looks after re-flashing, it's the first thing I change every time.
So, does anyone else use a non standard dpi setting? If not I urge you to try it!
I love having my N1 set at 200 as well. I also have a Viewsonic GTablet that I have dropped to 140. I use LCD Density Changer to change the resolution as it is quick and it stays set through reboots (requires root).

I had not ever tried this till seeing this post. Now that I have tried it, I am not sure if I will be able to go back to 240. Thanks for the heads up OP.
..yeah, always set to 220.
170 here. Stayed at 200 for a while but then I went further, couldn't go back...
My gf keeps hers at 240. I can't stand looking at her screen! lol
I found 200 almost mandatory on my Evo but on my nexus.. stock is fine.

IMO only some of the settings look "right" whereas others distort things.
I use 240, 192, 180 depending on what I'm doing on my Nexus1.

Or if you'd rather not pay, remount /system rw and find this line in build.prop:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Set it to whatever you like and reboot
Just tried a few densities and like 200

Thanks for the info.
I guess some apps don't work if you mess around with the density. I liked 220 but the app 'RadioRip' stopped working, so I have to settle with 230 as the app still works with that setting.
I'd love to use my phone at 180 but the stock keyboard goes too small. I can't live without gingerbread keyboard

It might be worth trying unticking compatibility mode in spare parts, seems to fix most issues that changing the DPI causes.

Hi guys,
Anyone notice that 99% of apps are "incompatible" with the Nexus 7 from within the Play Store.
I couldn't even get Instagram to work from the Play Store, had to take the apk from my SGS2.
Could there be something blocking access to certain apps? Is it because I rooted the device? (I find both options to be unlikely, but who knows..)
The only game I noticed absent was Plants Vs Zombies.
Everything else I wanted was there, so I would say it's 99% compatible, 1% missing.
No amazon mobile, that's terrible.

its down to the individual app developer to make it compatible, not google

If you change your DPI you will notice that you can see some more apps, or lose more apps.

DPI is set to 170.
Again, the apps work fine after installing an APK, but it just seems strange that many apps in the Play Store are "incompatible with your version".

Derp, this is your problem. Valid DPIs: 120, 160, 240, 320. ANYTHING ELSE will be filtered if the app developer has put specific DPI criteria on their app. Period.
This is your own doing.
Beyond that, since the Nexus 7 has no primary camera, apps which require the Camera permission will be filtered. This part annoys me, as the front camera is good enough to use for such things but the permission isn't there, so the market filters it.

all of my games are compatible. i even added a few Tegra specific ones.
apps are all available too, the only exception is some are not optimized for the larger screen.
so its 100% for me so far and i have 4 pages worth of apps.

Shouldn't 213 be listed
also, this is the first official JB device... many apps have not been adjusted to allow for that yet.

He said the risk of doing, not how to do it. ie changing the dpi and the market issues that brings with it

There's a simple app in store that changes the DPI for you and also has the feature to fix the market issues.
Amazon Mobile downloads directly if you first install the Amazon app store and use that.
I got the app store from Amazon's web site when I went there to search for Amazon Mobile.
Definitely recommended. Most of my shopping is on Amazon...

Misread that, my bad. Anyhow, changing the DPI to 160 did not solve the problem..
Firstly, it's a great ROM, thank you Temasek.
The question I have concerns images, specifically when my phone is running on the 3G system I don't get images on the eBay app, and get 404 error on image intensive sites on Opera Mobile and the stock browser. On the other hand, when I switch to WiFi everything loads normally.
Is this a data saving setup in the ROM or kernel? If so, can I turn it off? I don't have a data limit that I have to worry about such things.
Thank you.
Oh hell. I tried to update to 135, through ROM manager 5.0.2, and it failed (bad) zip file, and then it wouldn't restore, wrong MD5 sum, and then it wouldn't download anything from the Google App store. Pulling my hair out.
Okay, after a reboot the app store seems to be working properly.
Looks like I'm stuck with 134 though. At least it's a good ROM.
Good news. The first problem seems to have gone away. I now see things normally whether on 3G or WiFi.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to change the colours of text and the like to the green I had it on, from the aqua it reverted to.

Sorry. I just have to say this: you can simply edit your previous posts.
What do you mean with these colors? There's a theme changer built-in. You could change your theme there.

Sorry, you're right about the posting thing. I was not thinking clearly.
Yes. I found a few themes I like. The other thing was a drop down menu that changed all the highlights, including the text in the auto-correct bar to green rather than aqua.

Hi whats the easiest way to inrease the screen DPI? I have a SGS3 and a Note3 infront of me but I dont see anything extra on the Note3 it's just magnified. Really pointless...unless you have poor eye sight!

I set the dpi on an app by app basis. I left the system as is and just decreased the system font size. I feel this combo works well for me. I used Xposed App Settings to do this.

Techweed,
I installed Xposed App Settings and played around with dpi setting
of 320 and 480 in contacts and the gallery, but didn't see any real change.
Can you provide any help?
Thanks,
Neil

I actually didn't change contacts or the gallery. That's strange though. I changed other apps like the Play Store and Youtube to 400 just to make everything a bit smaller and they've changed accordingly.
To tell you the truth I don't have that much experience with this either. So you've installed the framework correct? Did you save the changes you made to the two apps you mentioned?

Even added another piece to the puzzle with Rom Toolbox,

Bladerunner,
In the above thread you referenced, you stated you used rom toolbox to changed your whole system to 320 dpi
Where can I find that feature in rom toolbox?
Thanks,

Its the build prop editor open it and scroll all the way down and look for the LCD =480. Change it to whatever ya want then it'll prompt ya to reboot and after that DPI will be changed

There is always an entry there. For any rom on any phone. It should be at about line 79 for this device. Might vary depending upon what version you are running. But also, keep in mind that you need to delete the # sign that is before it
