So last night i saw a post on googles own vnc viewer which is coded to work on the g1 and the android emulator.
Well, I forwarded my ports correctly and setup my server accordingly. I am using TightVNC as well as UltraVNC at seperate times.
I am able to establish a connection through all services on my g1, (3g edge and wifi). Only when I arrive on the connection
I am greeted with only a black screen. I switch to mouse control on my g1 by pressing trackball and can see me moving the pc mouse from my g1.
So my connection is working flawlessly but my only error is that i cant see anything on my g1.
Is there a special mirror driver i must install??? somebody please help me for i use remote desktop as a part of everyday life
If your talking about this one -- http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-viewer/ -- its not Google's by the way. The problem is you either got dual screens or your resolution is just too high, the problem is your running out of memory on the device to show that large of an image. If you read the updates on there though they mention they are fixing this in the next update.
Try to set your resolution lower, the lower the more responsive your connection will be.
On 3g I experience a "lag" when it gets the first screen. On wifi I do not.
How long have you waited at that black screen? (it usually takes like 30 sec over 3g for me)... I use ubuntu and vino as the vnc server on my home PC.
edit: btw, I run 1440x900 resolution...
I compiled the latest git which has the fixes for high resolutions and some others. It's still a little buggy, but I like it better than the official released version.
I had to zip it to attach it (I don't have anywhere I can host currently).
Enjoy!

Never tried it over 3G, mostly just played with it on the home network.. I usually just access through SSH over 3G instead. I'm on Ubuntu 8.10 using the default share desktop/vino also. I have a 19inch & my laptop screen as dual screening and was to impatient to wait and see if it'd even come up. 1440x900 is pretty big, thats what I had on the one screen when I turned it off and it was really slow. If you bring it down to 800x600 then your good, but pretty useless if your actually on the machine at that.
You could try running a virtual machine with a low resolution and leave that running for when you want to remote in.
Thank you very much for the responses. I am ignorant for thinking a early beta vnc viewer wil display my 1900x1200 resolution. Thanks for all the help
This Works
i use tightvnc works great over 3g and wifi this was one of few apps that impressed my heavy fanboy iphone owner to admit "thats pretty cool" lol
I didn't post this on here cause I figured it's a bit low level for this sort of board but I made this for TmoNews & also put it on Android Community:
There are quite a few different ways to control your PC with your G1. Here I will specifically explain only one of the options, Remote Desktop via a VNC server. If this sounds complicated to you, it's really only takes a few minutes (though it can be slightly more complicated if you have a router). There are many tutorials out there for setting up VNC servers that may explain things a bit better than I do but I will focus on getting it working on the G1. Feel free to do a google search to learn about this a bit more in depth.
First, on your PC
1) Download and install UltraVNC. Any VNC software should work but this one is free and works well. http://www.uvnc.com/download/index.html
2) Configure VNC. Now that you've installed UltraVNC, open the server by going to Start, Programs, UltraVNC and click UltraVNC Server
Now right click the eye logo on in the system tray and select admin properties.

}
You should now see this screen:
Set a password that you will remember later on. Hit apply when done.
3) Get your IP address. Go to Ipchicken.com. The large number displayed on the screen is your ip number. Either write this down or keep this window open for later reference.
4) If you don't have a router, skip to the G1 steps. If you do have a router, you have one more thing to do. What you need to do is configure the router to open up port 5900. This is the port that VNC and your G1 will communicate through. There are way too many different routers for me to explain the exact steps to take. However, a google search with your router's brand and the keywords port forwarding should come up with the exact steps for you to take. Here is a screenshot of what my port fowarding screen looks like in the hopes that it may help:
Steps on your G1
1) Set your G1 to allow for the installation of non-market app's. If you've done this already, skip to step 2. If you haven't: from the home screen, hit menu, settings, applications. Check off the box next to "Unknown sources."
2) Download and install Android VNC Viewer. http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-viewer/.
3) Launch androidVNC. You should see this screen:
Put in the ip address you obtained from ipchicken for address and the password you set earlier in VNC server for password and hit connect. In a few moments time, you should see your desktop screen on your G1!
If the app fails to connect, it will cause a force close (it's still not quite finished). If it fails, go back and double check that you've correctly done the previously listed steps. I got this working in under 5 minutes and if you're savvy with this sort of stuff, you should be able to do so as well.
Anyone sees any errors I made in this, please let me know so I can fix them. Hopefully I was clear and correct.

I will try the androidVNC posted in here and see how that works.
This is a compiled version of the r12 update to android-vnc-viewer. It appears to add support for selecting something other than 64 colors at connect time if your VNC server does not support that. There are some other small changes as well.
There still isn't a binary later than the 2008-12-05 release so I am providing it here so everyone can benefit from the latest code. I've been using it to connect to UltraVNC servers at work through an OpenVPN tunnel (woot @ openvpn) and at home to an xtightvnc server with no problems.
Maybe someday I'll learn a little java so I can contribute some code back to these guys. This app is awesome
refresh?
Hi,
I installed the apk file and got it to connect to my vnc server. However, i seem to only get a snapshot of the desktop and am unable to control the computer. Is there a setting to have it refresh or send commands to the server or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
There is only a limited amount of memory available for a framebuffer on the G1. Because of this sometimes it is not able to display the whole screen in fullscreen mode.
What you can do is go to Menu, select Scaling, and choose 1:1. This will give you a non-scaled version of the screeen. It will start in desktop panning mode by default. You can then use screen gestures or the trackball to move to the portion of the screen you would like to work on. Press the trackball button to toggle to mouse mode. You can then touch the screen to "click" on where you would like. You can toggle back to panning mode by pressing the trackball button again.
Hope this helps!
this works fairly well. i am posting this through vnc right now using my puter at home... hehe
EDIT: some screen shots
double clicking and cursor
Very cool, I see how clicking the button toggles between mouse moving and desktop panning mode. How do I double click and is there any way to get the mouse cursor to appear?
Great!
@Rfairburn Nice work!
I had problems with the market version of VNC due to my screen res being 1900x1200 (black screen on connect). I tried yours instead and it's perfect.
Still struggling to navigate in this app. I liked the mixed mouse option and that you added Ctl-Alt-Del to the menu. Can anyone share how to send an Escape key?, and double-clicking seems still to be elusive. Thanks for the great work though, this is a big improvement!

I didn't write any of it. I just downloaded the latest updates from http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-viewer/ and compiled them for use.
I just wanted to make it widely available since there wasn't a compiled version available for download.
One question... how do you create the apk file from the zip file you compiled? I already have the SDK (which I used to root the phone, move caches, etc..) if that's what is needed.
I followed the process on http://code.google.com/android/intro/installing.html and used eclipse to build stuff. The latest r17 build that I compiled a couple of days ago (in another post on here) had some additional dependencies which I downloaded as well.
This works!!

Excellent Instructions Carlitozway57! Thank you. This works like a charm! I tested this on 3G and WIFI. I also tried it on EDGE but it lagged a little.
Hello,
I've tried the androidVNC with TightVNC, RealVNC and WinVNC - and I haven't managed to make a connection with any of them.
I haven't got a router. I have typed both the IP address and the password correct. All the androidVNC does is that it tries to connect for a few minutes and then reports it has failed.
What am I doing wrong? I'm using the 3G network since I don't have Wifi available. I'm running Vista on my PC.
Any advice is very much appreciated.
Cinemo is an application for finding movie showtimes and information for your area(USA and Canada only, as far as I know). You can use either your postal code or GPS to find your location.

I have just released a new version of Cinemo. From now on Cinemo will be hosted here: http://www.danielgary.net/cinemo/
The new version is really just an interim release that enables image caching for the movie posters and allows automatic updates to Cinemo. A message box will pop up to notify you when the new version is being installed.

P.S. I know the site is ugly. I threw something up there just to host the file for now. I will get something pretty later.

Mods could you please delete the previous thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497225
When I attempted to install this to my memory card the installation would fail; however, the installation to device memory was successful. Can this only be installed to device memory?
Edit: Maybe for a future update you could query the "total $ gross" for each film on the list? Might be a cool addition.
Works well. One suggestion is to have a list of theaters that are within some range of your zip code. Many people go to neighboring zips to go to their preferred theaters.
I will be keeping an eye on this as it would be more convenient than loading up Fandango every time.
im unable to dowload via my ppc.... it just snow a bunch of code and at ppcgeeks the attatchment isnot valid
I get a "No movie times were found for your area." dialog box regardless of the zipcode I enter.
Running on a Sprint Touch Pro, WM 6.1, stock Sprint ROM.

I would imagine that you do not have a data connection open or available. Can you hit the internet with your phone? Try disconnecting it from the computer if the USB cable is connected.

I was able to hit the internet and use other data connection apps fine. I did have it connected to the PC. Disconnected, no change. Cinemo wouldn't work, other apps would.
Did a soft reset, everything works fine. I guess there must have been something that didn't take or load completely until after the soft reset.
Great app, thanks for the work!
Nice App. Since I dont have data plan I guess I will have to check it when I am near a Wifi

+1 for the gps, works like a charm! I use flixter on my ipod touch, and this works just as well for locating movies and since both are very similiar in UI, its really nice to have the familiarity from one device to the other.
Just letting everyone know I have movie synopsis working on my test build. Look for a new update to Cinemo in the next 24-48 hours. It SHOULD automatically update itself when you run it. I will post letting you know when it should be available.
thanks for this app i would love to be able to watch the trailer. maybe you could link it with the youtube app
awesome app, been following it since the first thread. the only thing missing for me would be saving favorite theaters other than that this is perfect. it's helped me out a couple times, thanks!
looks like this is going to be a great app - I am in Canada and i cant seem to enter a Canadian postcode as it caters for zip codes only! I also tried the GPS and it found no cinemas in my area and im downtown Toronto!
Potential feature add: would be great if you could add a feature to be able to enter dvd titles and get it to check the ratings on imdb and metacritic!
Hey thanks for the great app!
Is there a way to add more theaters to the list?
I have to change my area to get different theaters and i much rather just have all the theaters within the area be displayed.
Vancouver, BC, canada working decently!
I agree with some of the others. There needs to be an option for more movie theatres both when viewing the actual movie times and in the theatres tab. Also, itd be nice to check times for other days in advance. Like being able to view the times for Thursday when it is still Monday. Other than that I think it looks really good. Until theres more theatres I am stuck using Live search
every time i change the zipcode the app shuts down with an error. also, sometimes when i open the app it shuts down with an error. tried it on my sprint diamond and touch pro with same results. when it does open without errors it works great though. is there an explanation why there are errors so often? i'd say i've received an error about 40% of the time.
thanks for making this, it's a great idea and very useful. it's much easier and faster than having to open a mobile browser or some other app. keep up the development!
great idea love the concept. would you be able to make this for wqvga devices?
thanks in advance
Nice App but I have been having issues. I am using Energy ROM 3.0. I am not sure if it is because of the 3.7 .Net that he is use or some other reason but I am recieveing a message "failed: \storage card\program files\Cinemo\Cinemo.exe"
I am not sure why I have started to get this. I have more then enough room on my SD card. I have used it in the past and liked the app. Would love to have it on my cell but I am not going to change roms.
So, basically can anyone confirm issues on install? does it have to do with the 3.7 .Net that is being used?
Thanks,
SoBBie
pretty cool app.
i think it would be nice if you could enter your user account information for fandango.com or movietickets.com. that way if you see the movie you want to go see, you can just tap a "buy now" button, and you are good to go. maybe it could pull the confirmation number as well or something.
Well that didn't last long. My whole point with starting this project was to create an open source PC side manager. It turns out there were more talented minds than mine already at work on the same thing. At this point I'm shutting this project down and throwing my hat in the ring to helping with Droid Explorer however I can.

Open Android Manager
Right now it doesn't do much at all. This is only about one week's worth of work and most of that was spent getting it to auto-detect the phone and the command line interface wrapper. As a proof of concept I threw in the reboot commands and the beginnings of a file browser. It's written in VB.Net and I'm posting the entire project so far. If you just want to take a look at the finished product look at the “release” link.
I’m not a professional developer or even formally trained. I’m entirely self-taught so if you think there’s a better way to do something let me know, or just add it yourself. I hope to see this become a community developed tool.
There are probably a few bugs and more features to come soon. In the mean time how about we get a wish list going.
Update - 9/2/2009
I've rewritten the command line interface and it's much more efficient. The automatic phone detection is now spot on. I also corrected a bug that left an orphaned instance of ADB running in the background when the application exited (Sorry about that). I'll be posting an update soon with the changes and hopefully some added features. The new links will be up then.
Update - 9/6/2009
After spending this weekend retooling things I thought I should actually post the update. The file browser is just a "look" only at this point. I've started work on the drag and drop interface but it doesn't actually do anything with the files yet. The good news is that the file browser is FAST!
Oh and I'm off work this week so I'll actually have time to work on this.

Hey man can I help develop? I am trying to make my own program right now called superg1 and I see that yours already has adb and everything built in. I am doing mine in C++ and I see your doing yours in vb.net but I would still love to help develop yours.
HA! I just posted on your thread
I just posted the updated source, the 0.0.3 is the most recent. I've made some more changes to the command line wrapper. Every time I think I've gotten it all worked out something throws an error or doesn't return the right values.
Haha that same thing has been happening to me. We are working on a way to automatically root there phone and flash the scary spl and the radio and we can do it through batch file just not through C++ project
Ok I am looking over your source and it seems like vb is way more user friendly then C++ with easier to remember commands. Did you know if you want to have it scan to see if the phone is there you can use the command : adb wait-for-device
if you have microsoft Visual C++ I can send you my project folder and you can look through my code and tell me what I am doing wrong ( cause I am sort of a noob)

I'd love to take a look, send it over. I'm not that familiar with C++ but I can pick my way through it. I'm curious to see how you're handling the cmd process.
I was looking at the "ADB Wait-for-device" but I didn't like the way the process would hang while it waited. With the check based on the usb arrival and removal events the application essentially just pings adb when the event occurs. Also the ADB devices will return "device" or "recovery" to indicate the state and the device serial. I don't use that info for anything yet. Theoretically it could support multiple handsets simultaneously by addressing the adb commands to a particular serial.
Good news! I finally got the output of the confirmation for file pushes and pulls. I ended up building a process wrapper around ADB itself rather than the CMD.exe and calling adb from there. This was the last piece I needed for the drag & drop file manager I'd been working on. It also means I can get full input and output control from ADB. It's still at just a proof of concept at this point, so I still have a bit of work to do to clean up the class module and swap it out for the command line module I'd built previously. I'll post the update in the thread once I get it all done. Possibly tonight, but probably tomorrow depending on how much I geek out on it tonight.
Everything else from here is working out the scripts, adding buttons, and UI stuff.

Overall, I like this app. The following are suggestions for improvement.
Output text is too small.
Documentation is incomplete: What do the F1 & F2 keys do? And the arrow keys?
English is clearly not your first language. If you'd like help with it, PM me or tweet @piaqt.
"Maj." should be Caps Lock, or an arrow a la WP7 SIP.
btw: The Escape key is a very nice touch. Keep up the good work.
Ok thank you very much for your reply. Actually my first language is not English but the french ..
The keys "F1" "F2 " and the arrows to select the old Run command.
Thank you for your help to bring me a translation.
If you can give me any translation errors by private message I thank you ^ ^.
Otherwise I think well improve the documentation "help " for the next updated with new features.

Interesting App
Hello,
I was checking out this app in marketplace. I thought this was very interesting. I have a question. Could this app be used to edit files for the DF router application that some HD7 owners have deleted before putting thier USB mode back into zune mode? I was reading alot of people have this problem and when i saw this app, it occured to me that this might be the tool to fix the problem if anyone capable of using this app without destroying thier phone with could manage to navigate to the right files and edit them somehow to enable zune mode again.
Just a thought......
Who ever can manage this would be a hero! =) It would definately make this app sell if a fix would come out of this app.
Hey thank you so much for your response and your comments!
Already I apologize in advance for my bad english !
Actually this program to be useful for your problem ...
However. Policy microsoft wants to block user access to the internal content of the mobile phone.
Normally you have access only to "Isolated Storage" of the application.
However it may be possible to access a known way with the [cd 'path']. But in my opinion it is impossible to access personal data and true system. But I look on my side if I rouve a way around this ....
In my opinion Microsoft is not daccord to pass an application that would change everything. Hoping a change in next update.
At your service for any info.
I'll keep you posted for future updating.
Little surprise coming for the 1.3
Greate app. It makes me feel like a linux enviroment.

Very interesting, a lot of potential
This is a very interesting app, with a lot of potential. It's depressingly rare to find an app for WP7 that really tries something new and innovative, but this is one of those. From a fellow Swiss (albeit German-speaking) to another I can only encourage you to continue to develop and improve the app.
But... the app (in its free, ad-supported version) as I downloaded it today, is barely usable. The scrolling is erratic, often I don't know which part of the output I see at a given moment. When typing a command, most of the time I have to type blind because the SIP covers the command that I am typing. The command history is certainly a good idea, but somehow I always fail to get back the last command typed just before the last enter. I try output redirection, with a single greater-than sign instead of two such signs: This either does not work without any error message or crashes the app. Finally I manage to produce a file, use the "edit" command: Black writing on black background, unreadable. So many errors, all encountered in a first 10 minute trial run.
IMHO, this is an early beta and should be treated as such, e.g. distributed with the help of the beta process that Microsoft offers or directly as a .XAP file.
And now some suggestions: As I see it, the app really needs many more functions supporting the typing / issuing of commands; such functions would greatly improve the tool, they might be even the key to real acceptance. Typing on a phone is hard, typing commands with special characters like greater-signs even more so.
Save commands from one run of the tool to the next. Implement a command to view the whole command history in a listbox instead of one at a time in strict order. You may try something like command-autocomplete. Maybe predefine one-letter or two-letter aliases for the commands, "d" for "dir", "e" for "edit", and so on. After an error with an incomplete command do not just ask me to type "command /?" myself, that almost feels like a punishment to me to have to type that myself, pre-fill the command input box with that command line, or insert it into the history, or any other super-easy way to issue the /? command. If technically possible, it also would be nice to be able to select any displayed text and use it as part of a command.
Little mistake
I tried lite version. This is not working on my unlocked phone. I debugged it. Result:
Console WP7 wants to make directories under isolated storage after every starting and want to copy all music + all picture collection from phone to this storage. When mp3 or jpg in collection is not placed in \MyDocuments\Zune\Content subdirectory, Console crashes.
works

Hi people , i come for tell you , the new update of the "Windows Phone Console Shell app" is arrive today !! After 2 years ^^
Is there a version for WP8? Please where is the .xap to download? Will it work on my ativ s?
I think this tutorial is long over due. There are guides out there for individual basebands but if you don't want to go searching and want to learn how to do it your self hopefully this guide can help. If it does, don't forget the thank you button.
Your first step obviously is to get all the drivers you need to hook your phone up to CDMA workshop, so download any diagnostic drivers you may need. One other thing you need is some type of hex editor. Winhex works great. You can get it here.
http://x-ways.net/winhex/
Once that's done we can move on.
1.) Open up cdma workshop and connect your phone and then click read. Proceed to the security tab and enter your spc code and send it to the phone to unlock it.

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
2.) Go to the memory tab and click start under memory scan. Just leave the fields the way they are.
you should get something like
Scanning memory for readable areas:
Unreadable area from: 0000:0000
Readable area from: 00FA:0000
Unreadable area from: 0100:0000
Readable area from: 0109:0000
Unreadable area from: 01DC:0000
Process is stopped at: C000:0000
You shouldn't have to sit there through the entire scan. After you get the two readable areas and two unreadable areas you can stop the scan, but it's not mandatory.
3.) Now for the tricky part. I'm not sure if this is how you figure out the number of bytes you need but it works fine for me. The memory is readable from 00FA:0000 to 0100:0000 so we take the number 0100:0000 and subtract it from 00FA:0000 and convert it to a decimal. To do this use the calculator tool in Windows. So open the calculator and click view and select programmer.
Now punch in 1000000. (The first zero doesn't matter, the same goes for the other address.) Then click subtract and punch in FA0000(of course replacing these addresses with the ones in your scan). Now when I hit equals I get the hex number 60000. To convert this to a decimal simply select dec.
As you can see I get the number 393216.
4.) Now in the memory / Eeprom area put in the number you calculated where it says bytes. Put in the first readable area in the start address field. Now click read and it will prompt you to save the file somewhere so go ahead and do that.
5.) Now take your MEID number and put it in pairs of two then reverse them. For example if your MEID is A1000067452301 pair it like so
A1 00 00 67 45 23 01 and reverse it like so
01 23 45 67 00 00 A1 remove the spaces and you get 012345670000A1
6.) Open the saved file in Winhex and press ctrl, alt and x. This will bring up a window so you can search certain hex numbers. Put in your reversed MEID without the spaces.
Click OK and it will take you to the first MEID it finds.
The address to the left of my MEID is 0000C590(or just C590) and the column for the beginning of my MEID is 4. Add 4 to C590 and you get C594. To get the first MEID address take the number you start the scan with(mine was FA0000) and add C594 to it. I get FAC594. This will be your first MEID address. Write it down and move on to the next. If you press ctrl, alt and x and hit OK it will take you to the same address you were just at so what I do is change one of the numbers and then search again like so.
I changed the first pair to 00 so I can continue searching for MEID addresses. Continue this process for the rest of this file then you must do step 3-6 with your second readable areas. Mine again was 0109:0000 - 01DC:0000. The second readable area takes a very long time. My bytes ended up being 13,828,096.
7.) The last thing I did was do the entire process again only I put the phone in airplane mode. This may or may not be necessary. This same process can also be used to find your ESN locations. Just search the same files but put your reversed ESN in the search window in Winhex.
Overall it is a very time consuming process but if you do everything correct it can save you a lot of time as opposed to looking up addresses someone else has posted. I have tried in the past and people with the same baseband had completely different addresses.
I hope this helps and don't forget the Thank You button if it does.
Dude you really kick ass! I have been looking for something like this forever. This should be stickied. I always wondered what range of addresses to look for and now I know. Way to go bro Got a donation account? I would love to contribute to the help you have given me.

Readable area from: 0109:0000
Unreadable area from: 01DC:0000
Process is stopped at: C000:0000
then i've calculate and memory eprom and i save the files
then i have open with winhex and modify them, not a problem
but now my question how do i upload them back to memory eprom phone?
once I tried via same memory eprom button write those modified bin files and it giving me error message "Range check ERROR"
I need to upload those bin files to phone back
hope now is understandable, please let me know, thank you!

You're not supposed to upload the bin files. This is just to find esn locations. Once you have the locations you use qxdm to find the esn and meid and change them there.

Thanks for posting this! I really appreciate it.
Just curious on how to actually convert what I find from WinHex to the address I search in QXDM ie: 0x00000000. Also what if the MEID or ESN starts on a letter column? Just replace the last number/letter with the letter of the column? Thanks for all the help, been a week for me so far trying to do this damn evo on boost lol

First off you shouldn't use cdma workshop to flash your phone. cdma workshop is used to unlock the phone and scan locations as well as a few other things. I don't have time tonight to go into detail on what to do but i will get back to you tomorrow. In the mean time I suggest you do a lot of reading on how to flash phones. Look up the evo 4g to boost tutorials to get a good idea of what you're going to need to do. I'll get back with you when I have more time probably sometime tomorrow late afternoon. Also you made a rookie mistake by posting your meid and ESN in a public forum. People can clone your phone with that info. I suggest you edit your post and delete that sh*t.
what phone are you using as the donor? What provider are you using?
