[RSD] 5.5.0 - Atrix 4G Android Development

RSDLite 5.5 Download
It's a new version. I haven't seen a newer version posted though I think up to 5.5.x exists already. It supports large file fastboot flashing (yes you can flash fastboot partitions in RSD =D)

Cool, thanks!

Thanks.

how much faster are we talking about? i've only had to use RSD a handful of times ( i can really count the times on one hand), and i had no errors any times i did it. i'm just wondering out of pure curiosity. i try to stay away from RSD unless i absolutely have to use it.

Newer versions of RSD Lite means support for newer models and platforms, bugfixes and optimizations. Atrix owners have nothing to do with versions newer than rsd 5.2.

Not exactly true, this new version supports flashing files via Fastboot that are larger than normal (read: replaces moto-fastboot).

Actually, i was replying in general cause it was a general question, not spesific about this release.

I tried to flash it in my ME860, but because of the firmware on my telephone-U4_2.1.1 ,French version,it failed. Now, I share the firmware with everyone, hoping that if someone can find a method to let all of us use it.

[DEV Request] Bridge the gap between Bell/AT&T Atrix's

It's most likely impossible, but for a Bell user to be able to flash an ATT SBF and actually have it work would be amazing. As I'm 99% sure if we ever see gingerbread come from Bell this month (or summer for that matter) it most likely will not have an unlocked bootloader. I'm willing to do whatever necessary in order to help.
I'm no expert, but so far what I know of the difference involves the fact that we were able to install ATT themes/psuedoRoms by booting into recovery and using "Wipe DATA/Factory Reset". (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070076). Why this is so I'm not sure.
Thanks for any consideration of the topic.
Ok. I'm no dev and I don't have bell. However, I was thinking... Could you use recovery to flash a flashable .zip file of the 1.83 update and then unlock that way? Not sure if that would work at all but it just crossed my mind.

OP - Requests do not belong in the development section. For future reference. It does suck that Bell is lagging so far behind AT&T though...
If your referring to that fact that they were able to get the Chinese version to load onto an ATT phone and then unlock the bootloader and not the Bell then yes unfortunate...But Bell isn't lagging behind ATT...Correct me if im wrong but i don't remember hearing any official announcements about when ATT was going to be getting the official gingerbread update.
On topic, i too wonder if there is a way to merge the two as it seems very fragmented right now.
From what i understand it's a matter of the Bell Atrix having a different "framework" than ATT.
Hopefully some Dev's care enough to maybe make a go at it? =)
my 2 cents
cheers

I agree, Motorola said they would only unlock bootloaders where "carriers permit".
However, what would be the result of flashing an ATT sbf, as I don't know if anyonr has tried it but I have heard that RSDLite doesn't allow a Bell phone to flash an ATT sbf. If the hardware in the two phones is identical then at least in theory they should be able to flash either sbf. Or am I wrong?

(Q) How to install/flash kernel?

So with the kernel released, anyone want to educate us how to flash a kernel? Id like to dig into this kernel, and if I can do anything with it, id like to know how to flash it to test...
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA Premium App
it should be the same as on any other phone. boot into ClockWork Recovery and select "install .zip from sd card"(or you could specify in ROM Manager that you want to do that also.
No, its not the same as any other phone...you can't install a custom kernel on the Bionic because it can only run a signed boot image...ala the locked bootloader.
The release of the kernel source, while welcome, is not anything that end users can do anything with at all and is of limited use to developers as well, due to the fact that Moto doesn't release everything and custom kernels are not possible.

Well, you're wrong.
It the phone was unlocked, that is where you'd flash the kernel - through recovery.
well, the procedure of installing a kernal is the same as a ROM(meaning you don't have to go through BootLoader)... so as far as installing, the above is how you'd do it... but wether or not(not) your phone accepts it is a different story considering the current status of the Bionic.
Hmm, wonder if any one is willing to try... If u have then knowledge to put that in a flashsble zip, il try... what's the worst that could happen.... Have soft brick and rds back to life....???

Jeez. The kernel source was barely released a day or two ago. Give the dev community a few days to sort out what they can do with it before getting all crazy about it. We already have ClockworkMod Recovery for the Bionic. Chances are, since they have the full source code, we'll have refined flashable kernels that are bootloader-compliant in the coming weeks.

I am hoping this is the case as well.
Not sure if the entire source was released or just what was contractually obligated to under the GPL.(which is likely the case since everything would give the dev's the key to the kingdom so to speak.)

Well...since we are being sticklers for the facts here...the easiest and most efficient way to load a custom kernel, if we could do so, would be fastboot.
They are typically released for most devices with unlocked bootloaders in update.zip format, but it's really device dependent and several forms are often available.

What is my XT860? Droid 3 or Droid 2?

Hi everyone,
I have an XT860 from Bell Canada. I would like to mod it. Can someone tell me if it's a Droid 3 or Droid 2?
Also, what are the latest versions of Android available for these devices? The one installed now is 2.3.6 and I would very much like to jump to a Jelly Bean.
I appreciate some input before I waste too much trying to mod this.
Thanks
Droid 3. You're in the right section. Each ROM has an 860 patch but the problem is that the development on JellyBean has kind of stalled since the camera isn't working.

MrObvious, thanks a lot for the feedback.
1- What is an "860" patch?
2- What is the latest stable version of Android for my device? Not looking for Jelly Bean if camera doesn't work.
3- Where can I find instructions and latest ROMs for my device? ***I don't want to mess up the radio frequencies as it's a Canadian phone***
Thanks again.
Basically it just patches a few files and the build.prop so that it works with the 860 as all our ROMs are built for the 862 which is the Verizon CDMA version. Just flash a ROM and look for a patch. Minimoto is a good one because it has stability and Endroid made a patch that works.

1)these are just cosmetic, you can have it show the h+ through build.prop edits

Do not flash roms from international forum

Sorry, but there seems to be a new post every other day about people borking their Sprint phones because they flash a Rom from the "HTC One" forum.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
-------------------------------------
ROMS from the international forums WILL mess up your phone and you will be lucky to fix it after that! I get you want the shiny new 4.2.2 but those ROMS will not --I repeat-- WILL NOT WORK ON THE SPRINT HTC ONE.
Sure, they used to, but once they moved onto 4.2.2 they will not flash.
I feel this should be sticky in every thread on the Sprint HTC One forum.
People are still doing this?

Would this be helpful to anyone? It's kind of on/off topic... A direct link to HTC's copy of the HTC One update for Europe?
And by a direct link, I mean an HTC URL?
I mean, the proof is in the pudding...by which I mean the constant stream of "bricked plz help" threads.
So all of these stupid people that aren't reading prior to flashing and you think they are going to magically read this? I really hope this prevents a few but I doubt it.

From what I've seen all the major ROM's say in some fashion or another that it won't work for Sprint so it's mostly people just not reading. Maybe they could make the font about it possibly destroying phones if you are on Sprint bigger...and flashing...surrounded by naked women. Then maybe people will see it.
Unless your a Dev or know what your doing I wouldn't flash non sprint things... I know the partition labels and boot.IMG stuff so I have gotten things to work but not for a noobie

I have never seen so many people flashing the wrong roms as I have seen with the HTC One...If people would read then they wouldn't have these issues but we all know they won't read this either. You bought a Sprint HTC ONE, why would you not come to the SPRINT HTC ONE Development section to find a rom???
Sooo.....I flashed this rom called "NOTFORSPRINT" and now I'm stuck. Help me NAO!

No no no... You don't want to do that! First. Go to Apple.com, that part is right, but you have to download their Symbian Factory ROM. Then put your phone into DFU mode open ChevronWP7, and while holding shift select the .ipsw file you just downloaded and you'll be up and running with the latest version of WebOS in no time!!
