What is my XT860? Droid 3 or Droid 2? - Motorola Droid 3

Hi everyone,
I have an XT860 from Bell Canada. I would like to mod it. Can someone tell me if it's a Droid 3 or Droid 2?
Also, what are the latest versions of Android available for these devices? The one installed now is 2.3.6 and I would very much like to jump to a Jelly Bean.
I appreciate some input before I waste too much trying to mod this.
Thanks

Droid 3. You're in the right section. Each ROM has an 860 patch but the problem is that the development on JellyBean has kind of stalled since the camera isn't working.

MrObvious, thanks a lot for the feedback.
1- What is an "860" patch?
2- What is the latest stable version of Android for my device? Not looking for Jelly Bean if camera doesn't work.
3- Where can I find instructions and latest ROMs for my device? ***I don't want to mess up the radio frequencies as it's a Canadian phone***
Thanks again.

Basically it just patches a few files and the build.prop so that it works with the 860 as all our ROMs are built for the 862 which is the Verizon CDMA version. Just flash a ROM and look for a patch. Minimoto is a good one because it has stability and Endroid made a patch that works.

Thanks again. So, where is the official mod thread? From what you said, I first mod it and then apply the Minimoto patch for 860. Did I get that right or is there a ROM specific to 860 that I should do?
The phone is unlocked and rooted but I don't think I have the framework to install ROMs so I probably need to read the official modding thread.
Thanks

For minimoto I'm moving the actual rom. If you look through the posts in the minimoto thread you'll find the link to the 860 version. I'd link you but I'm on my phone and it's a pita

I will go with Minimoto first and then try other MODs. There are many threads on Minimoto. I wonder why there is no sticky "Droid 3 ROMs & Instructions"
So far I learned that I have to install (somehow) SafeStrap and then MiniMoto ROM. Am I getting that correct? Is there a comprehensive guide to this specific to XT860?
Thanks

Sounds like you're getting it. Then look through the Minimoto thread to find the 860 patch.

Thanks. Is this the official Minimoto ROM thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978304
It mentions it's for XT862 but mine is XT860 and a Canadian version (Bell Canada). Would I be safe to use that?

Yes, it does. I was hasty and not waiting for full page to show up. Thanks.
1- I have got Minimoto installed but Android version is 2.3.4 and that is lower than the 2.3.6 that came as stock. Is there anyway to upgrade that?
2- Would overclocking make a major different? Where is the official guide for overclocking for XT860?
Thanks

Thanks. I have installed Minimoto and here are some of the problems I am facing if there are any work-arounds for them?
1- I have been only seeing 3G and Edge for internet connection. On stock I can see H+ as well.
2- From time to time the phone doesn't have any internet connection and it has to be restarted to get internet connection - that is a big annoyance.
Any feedback?
Thanks again.

1)these are just cosmetic, you can have it show the h+ through build.prop edits
2)try adding the line ro.ril.hep=0 to the build.prop, it should help, and try just toggling airplane mode to reset the connection, easier than rebooting

ro.ril.hep=0
Would I be in better situation if I can an LTE sim card even though the phone doesn't support LTE but network does so maybe signal would be better?

I believe other radios have been used on the AT&T atrix before, you should be good to use this. If you end up w/o signal just flash SBF and you'll be back to normal.

I just flashed yesterday, gonna see how it works (Bell Canada)
The point is to share...
however in China only 2100 band works, so I assuming it works better for Europeans instead of Americans
Let's see...
For a second there I had hope that it would be the same version as the stock Bell radio. (1.77, I had to look it up)
I am guessing that since China has some differences in their mobile networks compared to NA, it might be interesting to see if it improves things over here.
Cheers!
Currently, I am using 4.1.83 ATT version. I failed to upgrade this radio from basebans version N01.77.15P via RSD 5.0

That's because of the ram downloaders this sbf uses. It will not work on an AT&T Atrix.
I can make a compatible sbf if some people want to test it.

from what i can see,
your definition of "benefits" must be very limited. not everyone needs hsupa, i'd live without it if it improves stability.
you have no idea about what ymmv means. with the vast possibilities/combinations of different carriers/terrains/vendors/gen of devices, why would you even ask about the "benefits"? chances are someone would benefit from it but just not you.

[MOD] Radio N_01.77.15P Bell Radio

Hi,
I extracted the radio from the Bell OTA and created a sbf from it.
Here you go:
Radio N_01.77.15P
Cheers!
Hey man, do you know if this radio or 01.97.00R are the same but just with different naming conventions because of the country?
I've got a Bell Atrix running OLYEM 2.1.1 SBF with GreyBlur and apparently have N_01.92.00R unless the build.prop was changed with the GreyBlur mod. Wondering if I should upgrade to 01.97.00R or N_01.77.15P... voice quality is still slightly poor.
Anyone with a Bell Atrix try both radios yet?
I find it has slightly faster uploads on the Bell network, ~1.7x vs ~1.85.
Cheers!

I never noticed any real speed difference between stock and 2.1.1, so that it for what it's worth. But I ran my own tweaks on stock and 2.1.1, probably the reason.
Few thoughts, the framework is the same as stock, to be expected since the OTA is a patch, so my deodexed mods work the same as stock (ref translucent dropdown). The music player is the same one from stock, so no hiphop country jazz Internet blur craptastic player as in 2.1.1, and my translucent mod works with it.
Cheers!

Does the Bionic support GSM 3G after ICS Update?

After the ICS update leak, does the bionic support GSM networks?
I highly doubt it. Typically, if a device has the capacity for using a type of cell network, it comes with that capability enabled.
Take a look at this thread, there's a hack to get it to work, but part of it must be done before installing the ics leak.
