I just bought my droid bionic the other day, and rooted it about 5 minutes after that. My question is, I've been using root explorer and renaming the useless APKs with the .bak extension. Can i just move those applications to my sd card, and then if i need to restore to stock, move them back? Do root explorer and applications work that way?
Thanks!
Certainly, copy the useless system apps to your sdcard, delete them, and when the time comes that you want them back, simply go to your SD card and copy them back to the system app directory.
Exactly, this is what you're doing when you read someone refer to "pushing" .apks to your system/app folder. I always thought it was a lot more complicated

First off, I have searched this site and google and have turned up no answers.
As we all know (hopefully) the new froyo ROMs feature the CM settings which allow us to install apps on the FAT32 partition of our SD card. Much more convenient than making the ext2/3/4. However, last night I installed about 75-100(ISH) apps onto my FAT32 with my freshly flashed SuperFly Froyo ROM by HTCClay. Awesome ROM, btw. So anyway this morn i go to turn the phone on and I get a G1 spash boot loop on the screen. Dont know why. Anyway -- I wiped everything, then flashed again and all was well and still is. However, all those APPS that i installed on my FAT32 are no longer there. But when i explore the SD card the android.secure file is still on my SDCARD with ALLL the .ASEC files on there --- how do i get this installed apps back on this fresh ROM??? They're still on the SD so there must be a way to get the back to show/launch from the launcher.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Root explorer or even astro might do it

I doubt they will not. Apps2FAT write encrypted files to SD and do a loop-mount to access them. So the root explorer will not be able to re-create this mounts. Probably one of the a2sd - experts aka Firerat can write a script to restore them, but also here I doubt it will not be possible, sorry.
Apps2FAT in my opinion is a failure. Use apps2ext and you are fine. Only my 2 cent.

Just use EStrongs File Explorer and with its App Manager use backup option on app you want to backup, it will place .apk in /sdcard/backup/apps by default. For me it's easiest way to extract apk from your phone. It don't matter if app is on FAT32, ext or in internal memory.

Yes, as long as you have a running system and the FAT-aps are mounted, but he did already a wipe. So all connections and mount points are destroyed and so the sytem will see only encrypted files on SD ...
How do I manage the files on the internal storage? I'm wondering if with all my flashing of roms and screwing around if I'm using up room with a bunch of backups.
Also, how much room is supposed to be there, 512 MB?
I personally use Astro, another good choice is Root Explorer if you need to view system files on the phone itself and not just the sdcard.
EDIT:Just read your post again and you specifically said Internal, so i would say Root Explorer is a good choice.

Awesome, thanks!
I am about to undertake the task of factory restoring my Moto Droid (for reasons I won't bore you with). I'm rooted, and have Rom Manager for Nandroid backups (so I flashed a new recovery), but other than that I'm running stock.
I don't want to redownload all of my apps, so I want to copy them over to my PC and push them back to the phone later using adb. My issue is, I cannot find the apps I have moved to the SD card. What is their file pathway?
I've used Astro and Terminal Emulater (with the ls command) to try to find the pathway, but I'm at a complete loss.
Before you say anything, I know Astro can backup apps; however, it does not back up apps that are stored on the SD card. And I have too many apps to move them all to internal storage to back them up with Astro.
I really need to find the file pathway so I can copy the .apk's. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks.
the easy way, try titanium backup

I ended up just playing 'musical chairs' with the apps on the SD card to put them on the internal storage to back them up with Astro. It worked pretty well, though was unnecessarily time consuming.
And a lot of the best features in Titanium cost; I know it's supporting the dev, but I'm an eternal cheap skate when it comes to apps...
Can someone tell me how to move files to the internal memory without connecting to pc.
when i try doing it wth file manager it says file could not be moved
i cant pay for any app right now, need something free
notenoughspace is one app that can do it but i again i cant pay for it right now. If anyone has it plz post the apk.
What ROM do you use? Astro File Manager works fine with Nokie Froyo and rooted stock.
P.S. Are you aware that if you want to store files in eMMC, you should place them in /media folder, not in /,/system etc.?
I am using cm7 right now, i try to place files in my files and it fails
Edit: it working now, but only copy and paste, when i use move, it fails but thats not a problem anyway.
i think the place you are trying to put the files is mounted as read only. Try putting files in the /media/ folder using astro or esf
Root Explorer is best file/rights manager...
Good question. Once you have Root Explorer working, try emailing the files to your self then install to SD Card or eMMC.
Good luck m8.
I use Dropbox to port files to my Nook, Gtab, and Evo phone. Just open Dropbox and download the file on your device. Dropbox puts it on your SD card in the "Dropbox" directory. Then you just use Root Explorer to move and paste from there to your emmc memory folders.
I just upgraded my HTC One (from stock rooted 4.1.2) by flashing to stock rooted 4.3. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the file system changed and that I needed to copy my SD card data (including of course titanium backups) to external storage and move it back after the upgrade.
I understand I can use Root Explorer to do the move, but is there a more robust and easier way to do this? Is there any way to access the data through the PC with something friendlier then adb (e.g.windows file explorer)? I did create a nandroid before I flashed. Should I just flash back, move the data, and reflash the update?
Why do you need to move it to external storage then back again? Don't you just move it within the phone? I know you want something friendlier than adb, but honestly one command you cut and paste into the shell window and it's done within seconds.
Or download a file Explorer in the phone and move them manually.

Thank you both for your replies.
I went down the adb route. A little more complicated than I thought it would be. I had to, of course, update adb and along the way I got driver conflicts. Then I was left with deciding which folders needed to move, which should stay, and which were just old cruft.
It seems the directories legacy, obb, as well as hidden file .htc_layout_version should stay (as well as, of course, "0"). I kept .aid.bak as well, mostly because I have no cluse what that file is. Most everything else was cruft or "obvious" user files that got moved.
Al I have left in \data\media\ are the directories 0, clockworkmod, legacy, obb, and the file .htc_layout_version and .aid.bak. I hope I didn't screw anything up.
Seems my base configuration is using more space then before I migrated (roughly 11gb without the clockworkmod backups).
