Does anyone else have problems getting their D3 to connect to a wifi network secured with wpa/ wpa2 psk? Mine absolutely refuses to, I've never gotten past obtaining an IP address, which is odd because my asus transformer and my laptop have no problem connecting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No issues here.
Don't mean to state the obvious, but are you sure you have the correct password/phrase? Try deleting the connection on one of your other devices and then re-establish it to make sure you have it right. Also, which the password/phrase entry box on the D3 as you put each character in to make sure it's going in correctly.

Hi there,
The XT860 version connects to WPA/WPA2 PSK no problem at all and has been generally supported in linux-based systems for quite some time. I imagine if this is your problem, it's related to a network setting more so than your phone.
1) Check the SSID -- they are case sensitive
2) Check if there's a MAC ID filter, if so, you need to add your phone
3) Make sure DHCP is enabled on your router (should be by default)
4) Make sure your passcode is set properly, again case sensitive.
If your problem is with WPA2 Enterprise, that's a different issue and I can explain to you how to fix that.

1. SSID is correct.

Still wont connect for some reason with this type of security. Im pretty certain that it connected when it was unsecured btw and when I set a WEP, but for some reason it wont connect with WPA.

One thing not in the guide is also the ensure the encryption type matches up -- there are both TKIP and AES; make sure the Router is set to AES (it's a superior encryption method, and I can confirm that it works).
I can confirm that WPA2 works on the Droid 3, XT860 and I'll assume it works in general since there are very few posts on a Google search. If this were a phone issue, it would be a widely cited concern given the prevalence of WPA networks.
Might just be a problem with the wifi chip in your D3. I use a DGL-4500 router and my D3 connects to it just fine, using WPA2 AES. If you get the same issues with other routers I would take the phone in for a replacement.
I noticed on my netgear router that the mode was set to 300mbps for n wireless. Dropped it down to 180 or whatever the next lowest srtting was and a)solved the same problem and b)no longer drops the wifi broadcast.

its not the wifi chip because it connects to other networks, tomorrow morning im gunna try changing the security type tomorrow and see what happens... this is really weird because my asus transformer connects just fine, any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, so i tried changing the settings to wep, couldnt connect... I turned security off, and it connects just fine... this leads me to believe its gotta be something with the encryption method. anyone have any ideas? Any advice would be appreciated.

Anyone else having trouble using the internet over wifi (wep & wpa) with the actiontec router that comes with Verizon fios? I can ping the G1 and telnet into it. Just can't use the browser. I am able to connect to other WPA encrypted routers and everything works great. This problem existed on rc19 and continues on rc30.

Was the first thing i tried.
I don't have one yet (it is coming December 13th HAHA) But can you two compare firmware versions? Maybe you need to update that... or maybe there is a setting that is preventing the phone from getting to the net. It sounds more like a setting on the router than the phone.
I would check DNS settings and make sure all works well... Can other wifi devices connect to the net?

I have fios myself and the wifi portion of the Actiontec router is craptacular. I've had all sorts of compatibility problems with various wifi cards. I have replaced the primary router with a .N aftermarket one and hooked up the Actiontec as a regular client so the TV cable boxes can still get programming updates. Naturally, I turned off the wifi on the actiontec.
So its basically like this:
Actiontec -> D-Link N (or whatever you want) -> Internet
If you go down this route you just have to make sure whatever router you make your primary is not on the same private network. Actiontec uses 192.168.1.X. I've had no problems since switching to a higher end router. Also, you can clone your mac address from the actiontec or call verizon and have them reset your DHCP lease. They know the drill.
I have FIOS with the newer Westell routers and the wifi sucks on them as well. I got a belkin and use it as a wifi expansion. So it uses the same IP as the router but just adds a wifi network. Pretty neat if you ask me.
so i think may have found a solution that may work for you (it worked perfectly for me). what i did was switch my security to WPA2 and left the encryption standard to AES only as a pose to TKIP+AES. I also reset the router before this but im sure you dont have to do that. let me know if this works.

Could you be kind and give us more details of exactly how you connected and setup the belkin router to improve the wifi? My FiOS wlan also sucks and Verizon tech support is useless.

So I got my Chromecast from Amazon, got it hooked up and tried several times to set it up via Chrome on an iPad. It can see my AP but it gets stuck on the "Connecting to...." screen, and then eventually goes back to the code entry display screen without completing.
So I tried the Win7 app, same problem. I have a dual-band Netgear WNDR3700v2, no issues with it ever. AP isolation is off, tried with NAT off and on, etc.
Then I tried with my phone hotspot, same issue. Can see, but gets stuck on 'Connecting to .....' screen and then goes back to code entry display.
If I'm having the same issue with 2 different hotspots, should I just get a replacement, or am I missing something? I'm thinking replacement at this point.

im having a similar issue with my phones hotspot. even if it does randomly connect, it acts as though it doesnt.
Same router, same problem.
no problems connecting to a router (RT-N16, Tomato firmware)
no problems connecting to phone hotspot (Oppo Find 5, CM10.1)

I also had this issue initially..I have a dual-band Netgear WNDR4700....Note: Chromecaste only works on the 2.4 GHz.

It is working fine now. Not sure what was the problem, but I'd say that it could be related to the USB power. I am now using the external adapter.
What encryption are you guys using? I had to manually enter SSID and encryption type before I can get it to connect. My router uses WPA2/AES.
WNDR3700v2 here as well. Not sure if that's the common link, but Chromecast won't connect either. Tried several tablets/phones, many resets and changed every router setting I could find.
I can go through the setup process then the Chromecast hangs at the "Connecting to [AP name]" message. If I use another mobile device, I can see that about 50% of the time the Chromecast is actually available and functional. It works for a couple minutes then loses connection. At this point, it must be factory reset to become functional again. I must start the setup again. I think my problem is that I can't 'officially' complete the setup process.
I have tried disabling the 5 GHz band, disabling security, used the power brick, etc. I've used various TVs too, including one right next to the router.
EDIT: Finally! After a billion attempts, it successfully completed the setup process. I used the web setup (no app) with broadcast SSID enabled. I literally tried this exact setup 10x, but it worked this one time.

I've tried everything I can.
I have a dlink DGL-4500 with a DAP-1360 plugged into it in AP mode. I was able to connect it on the main router but it lost connection and I had to hard reset it. It will not connect over the AP at all. The dlink comes with a setting called wlan partition. That is disabled. I have no setting for ap isolation.
Ok, solved this one for my issue but it's router specific.
If you have a Netgear WNDR3700v2, there was a firmware upgrade 1.0.0.32 that broke wireless isolation, such that it was always enabled even if you turned isolation off in the router settings.
Unfortunately .32 also broke upgrades for me, so I had to manually reset and apply the 1.0.0.36 firmware (latest version) using this procedure: http://forum1.netgear.com/showpost.php?p=446539&postcount=39
If you read the release notes for .36 you'll see they fixed a bug relating to wireless isolation. I can confirm that fixed it for me. Again, this is specific to this particular make/model router, if yours doesn't work after turning off wireless isolation it's due to some other issue.

Interesting. I'm running the .32 firmware too and I saw the release note concerning isolation. I'll check out the steps to manually update the firmware and give it a shot.
I was able to get the Chromecast setup, but my mobile devices can only interact with it intermittently. The wireless isolation bug would be a logical culprit.

Should help, just make sure to unplug/reset the Chromecast after doing the upgrade.
Chromecast connects, but Win 8 Chromecast app doesn't see device
I have already connected my chromecast to my home network (Linksys E2000). Problem I am having is that I had to use my Nexus 7 or my phone to see the wifi network. Once I fire up the Chromecast app through Windows 8, it says "Wifi needs to be turned on for the Chromecast App to work." Well, my computer is connected to the network as well as the chromecast to the same router. Why doesn't it see the app?
Can anyone help me with this?

UPDATE: I figured out the problem. I guess it doesn't recognize devices plugged in through ethernet, the chromecast can only be seen by wireless dongles on the same router.
I can confirm for certain, chromecast will definitely not work with the dlink dap-1360 even on my network. I unplugged the AP and my chromecast connected the very second the dap-1360 was unplugged.

D'LINK DAP-1522 AP issues
I have a D'Link DAP-1522 setup as an AP configured to WPA2-AES. When I try to connect the Chromecast it fails to connect to my network. However if I turn off all security it connects just fine. Any ideas?
Update: I was able to connect to the Chromecast by creating a Guest Zone with the following settings:
Security Mode: WPA Personal
WPA Mode: WPA Only
Cipher Type: AES
Disabled Guest Zones Client Isolation
Enabled Routing between Zones
Don't think I like this as a permanent solution but it is a work around.

I bought one last night, went into one of the guest bedrooms to play around with it, in about 15 minutes got it going.
it works beautifully with the nexus 5,
the work was with debian casting the whole desktop to play native files (videos, music, etc) I had the drop my firewall rules to allow uPnP incoming connections from the chromecast, which my firewall frontend was blocking because of my ruleset, so after disabling, *BAM* -

other than that, chrome tab casting on Linux works nicely for things like youtube ..
I had issues being stuck to the connecting screen whenever i switch to a different network since i use the same device to a different house - which btw i still find trivial up until this day that the chromecast is unable to save multiple network ssid/password.
Anyway, clearing the app data or reinstalling the chromecast app from my phone helps resolve the problem. Maybe you can put it from your list of diagnostic tests.

Anyway. I own a chromecast and am attempting to connect it to my home wifi network. I'm using a mi424wr-gen3i router with the latest firmware. I disabled IGMP and UPNP is enabled. I turned on IPv6 like some other posters mentioned. My phone (Bionic) gets to the set up page, sees the chromecast but fails at one of two points. Either it says it cannot communicate with the device or it gets to the point of connecting the chromecast to the network and fails. My network is using a WPA2 security key. As far as I can tell my router is not a dual band and only transmits at 2.4ghz. The chrome support mentions something about Access Point/ Client Isolation, but I have no idea what that is or how to configure it. I called both Verizon and Google. Google said check upnp and 2.4 ghz. Verizon said its not their problem.
I was following this thread which seemed to be point on, on my issue. However where other people seemed to make it work, mine still fails.

Have you tried rebooting your router, disable MAC address filtering if it is enabled, and/or reset the router's settings back to default

Yeah. I rebooted to the factory reset. Unfortunately its a verizon issued modem/router combo and its to their specs. MAC filtering is disabled and its been rebooted.
Get the latest router from Verizon & turn off IGMP. Swapping out the router should be free.

I was having a similar problem but I realized that Chromecast only needs the network name and it's password to work. After the step were you put in the password and it fails, I should work..Also, if you are getting stuck renaming chromecast, leave it the way it is for now. Before you start over, check to see if you can see chromecast on you network using Fing or a similar program.

I have had same issue and fixed it by doing a MANUAL entry of all wireless connection to your router... type in SSID, pick WPA2, and enter passcode.
Well after several hours of talking with Google and Verizon again. Verizon hung up on me and Google solved the problem. Apparantly my phone (Droid Bionic) is not communicating with the device properly. Off all things i was able to set it up with my buddies IPAD. Ironic right? Now I just need to figure out what the heck is wrong with my phone. I read somewhere that the razrs were having problems. The Bionic and Razr are one in the same so i guess ill head that way. Anyway thanks guys.

It's always a good idea to try different devices when possible. Adding the Google Cast extension on Chrome for the PC may be the easiest to work with since you're using a full keyboard.
I had to manuilly allow my chromecasts Mac address... Then it worked no problem.

My wife's razr had the same issue. You could have also used your PC to set it up.

Play Music and Play Movies/TV probably won't work for you either.
Just hit Try Again and it will work. It fails the first time, and hitting Try Again did the trick.

I was extremely happy with my shiny new Moto X (2nd Gen) (UK), which arrived on Monday, however I am since less pleased as I cannot connect to my office WiFi!
All other WiFi's are fine, but for whatever reason I CANNOT seem to connect to my office WiFi.
I have tried every single setting and the only conclusion I can rationalise is that it's because the SSID is hidden and the Moto X (at least my one) has a problem with this. I've tried restarting the phone, factory restored the phone, asked sysadmin to reset the router, tried changing WiFI Direct name, turned on "WiFI Optimisation" etc.
Nothing works. It just says "Saved, secured with WPA2". Every other device in the office works fine.
There is no MAC filtering and plenty of DHCP licenses available.
What kinda odf crap phone can't handle hidden SSID's? Also, Motorola support is a pile of crap! Been waiting to speak to one of them for 1 hour.
Anyone have any ideas?

Apparently someone told me that hidden SSID's is a violation of the Wi-Fi protocol and hence is not supported in Android/Motorola devices. Guessing that's the reason why apps like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.sourceforge.soopy.hidden.ssid.enabler&hl=en_GB exist..?
On the other hand, it seems like bullcrap if you and other can connect to hidden networks just fine?
No one know or have any advice on this issue?

I don't now where you're problem is coming from but I swear I'm connected each work day on a Wi-Fi network with hidden SSID. But : when I have configured it for the first time my moto x was telling me that WiFi network was not reachable. Just waiting 5 minutes and voila, moto x was connected. It was exactly same situation with a nexus 5 on same WiFi network.

So configure it, and then wait 5 minutes and see if it is now connected. Put your WiFi in always on mode even when idle.
Mine just says "Saved Secured with WPA/WPA2".
Just won't connect!!
Go to wifi settings scroll down and hit
ADD NETWORK
Next enter the ssid exactly it is case sensitive.
Next enter password.
If it doesn't connect then your works wifi may have Mac address filtering on.
In that case you have to have the I. T. guy manually allow you in.

As mentioned there is no Mac filtering and thus isn't a dhcp capacity issue. Everything is fine. All other devices including other 4.4.4 devices are connecting without issue.

Is it 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi? Have you enabled both?
Not sure what band, but doubt that's the issue as works on both bands at home.

Interesting... Using google I can found a lot of people that have same problem as you. But... Hidden ssid is only for bad admins that still think this will protect them
Yeah but it's no excuse for Android and/or Motorola to not play nice with hidden SSIDs. This in my opinion is VERY poor.
It's not moto but android. But since 802.11 have never been designed to work with hidden ssid I don't know if we can complain about android. But I'm not an expert on this subject, so maybe and hopefully someone can explain us in a more detailed manner.
That would make sense if I hadn't been able to use other Android 4.4.x devices and versions to successfully connect to the same network..
I missed that point... You're right if other android devices are able to connect to the same network then it is probably a moto problem... But mine is working good with hidden ssid but the router is not a Cisco one. I suggest to contact moto support by chat ( not by phone ), you should have an answer.
Cisco router? Make sure it is on the latest firmware. There appears to be an issue with older Cisco firmware and the X, independent of broadcasting of SSID.

I just updated my Nexus 6 from T-Mobile and now the WiFi won't turn on. Any one else with this issue?

Might be defective, might be a bug you should try a factory reset. I suspect I have a WIFI problem as well (not the same) as mine will absolutely not connect to my work network even though it should and I've tried everything.

Same here. I had the problem on the Nexus 5 and hoped the Nexus 6 would solve this but I cannot connect to my work wifi either.
I am having the same problem at work too. Never had it on any other devices (m8, nexus 5, note 4, etc.) Wondering of they did something new with WiFi or if its the router settings or outdated routers.
Android devices have had a history of issues with some older Wireless Access points. The problem isn't that they won't connect, but that they won't get an IP address. You may be able to work around the issue, by finding an unused IP address, and manually setting it for that wifi connection. Contact your IT person if you don't know what all this means, and ask him/her for the following:
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DNS Server
You'll need those to set things up manually. If you can connect after setting it up manually, then the issue is incompatibility with the WiFi access point (or the DHCP server, which gives out IP Addresses), not with your phone.

I will give that a try. I just confirmed that it's ONLY my nexus 6, I brought in my nexus 7 2013 with lollipop to work (which I have never done) and it was able to connect with no problem so now I'm sure it's a problem with the nexus 6.
EDIT: I tried manually connecting to the router and that didn't do it as well. I wish there was a way to submit the bug because it's a pain in the ass to not have wifi on my phone at work, poor signal in the building means it kinda chews on the battery.

Yep exactly, it's not just a nexus 6 issue, it also affects the nexus 5 on LXR210. Sounds like it's actually cisco's fault for incorrectly using the wrong EAPOL-Key descriptor version (3 instead of 2). Hopefully google fixes the issue quickly.
I had a defective unit. Took it back to T-Mobile and they had one Nexus left and swapped it out now everything is great. Now the damn X Where it says NEXUS on the back of the phone fell off . Oh well
I have the AT&T Nexus 6 and now I'm having WiFi issues. Keeps dropping connection or says poor than disconnects. No issue on any other device and it will not even show my 5ghz band.
